Project National Dex UU Next Best Thing: Cycle 18 - Crobat (Voting)

And I'm back! Since Nasty Plot and Steelium Z tied, I'll be breaking the tie by voting Steelium Z myself! Congratulation to Adam3560 for winning this round!

Cycle 5
:ss/urshifu-rapid-strike:

Some new light has been breathed into Urshifu since the discovery of the Pads + Taunt set. With a wide range of different moves and strategies, there's a lot to discover! Can you find the best one?

Deadline is April 1st! Bit shorter this time around since we had a delay with the voting, but I think it makes sense considering shifts happen on the 1st + haha funny

Urshifu-Rapid-Strike @ Protective Pads
Ability: Unseen Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Surging Strikes
- Thunder Punch
- Whirlpool
- Taunt

Traps amoonguss, skarmory, and slowking who can otherwise be used to check it and it can now trap them and whirlpool also removes a lot of prediction from opponents being able to switch out and racks up a lot of chip damage in conjunction with surging strikes.

Urshifu @ Choice Scarf :Choice Scarf:
Ability: Unseen Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Surging Strikes
- Thunder Punch / Ice Punch
- U-Turn

Choice Scarf Urshifu-RS is an incredible revenge killer, having a Choice Scarf means Aqua Jet can be scrapped for a coverage move like Thunder Punch which can be threatening to Urshifu's many threats like Skarmory, Slowking, and Azumarill or Ice Punch which can be useful for Tangrowth, Dragonite, and Amoonguss. With access to Surging Strikes, it's able to come in on setup sweepers behind Substitute which most revenge killers struggle to break through.

Urshifu-Rapid-Strike @ Leftovers
Ability: Unseen Fist
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Iron Defense
- Body Press
- Taunt / Rest
- Surging Strikes

Body press urshifu can be a threatening sweeper for an unequipped team, especially as many pokemon will no longer be able to threaten urshifu out after an iron defense:
252 Atk Zarude Power Whip vs. +2 0 HP / 252 Def Urshifu-Rapid-Strike: 150-176 (43.9 - 51.6%) -- 7.8% chance to 2HKO
252+ Atk Iron Fist Melmetal Thunder Punch vs. +2 0 HP / 252 Def Urshifu-Rapid-Strike in Electric Terrain: 120-142 (35.1 - 41.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
(this probably won't happen but if you pull it off it's amazing)
+4 252 Def Urshifu-Rapid-Strike Body Press vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Rotom-Wash: 309-364 (101.6 - 119.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Taunt is to prevent amoonguss spores and skarmory whirlwinds, but rest can turn urshifu into a very threatening late game sweeper if all special attackers are removed from the field. Item can be anything, I chose lefties but sitrus could work, you could likely pull off hdb or even lum rest.

FINCHSLAYER (Urshifu-Rapid-Strike) @ King's Rock
Ability: Unseen Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Surging Strikes
- Close Combat
- Ice Punch
- Bulk Up

surging strikes with king's rock has a 27% chance to flinch, meaning you have a 27% of beating common checks like amoonguss, tangrowth, malt, skarm, slowking, and helmetless buzzwole on the switch (basically this set has no viable counters). I have once again solved the meta

Since there is an overwhelming winner and I'm busy the upcoming days, I have decided to end voting early (seriously, we'd need 8 more people to vote for the exact same set that's not Salac Berry...). So I congratulate adem for winning this week! Your victory will be added to the Hall of Fame shortly

Cycle 6
:bw/azelf:

Ever since Alakazam left the tier, Azelf has been the new fast Psychic in the tier. With its nice versatility and good offensive stats, Azelf is bound to be a threat in the tier. Are you able to find its secret potential?

Deadline is April 8th

Azelf @ Colbur Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Flamethrower
- Knock Off
- U-turn

Basically just changed the item slot. If you have some trouble with dark types then this is the way to go, however this worsens the lake guardian's ability to pivot, so it should only be used if your team have such a problem.

Azelf @ Psychium Z
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Psychic
- Fire Blast
- Thunderbolt

gmolt/mandibuzz are two of standard azelf's best counters, as your only move to hit them is fire blast. Thus, it would be nice to be able to fit tbolt on azelf's nasty plot set. The problem is, azelf really likes eball to hit all the spdef grounds in the tier, which is where psychium comes in. At +2, it demolishes every ground bar Krook, which actually just drops to fire blast. Speaking of krook, psychium allows azelf to live knock 40% of the time (hmm does scarf krook failing to ohko psychics sound familiar?). Psychium also allows azelf to pick up some immediate OHKOs on things that would otherwise live a hit

+2 252 SpA Azelf Shattered Psyche (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 248+ SpD Hippowdon: 492-580 (117.1 - 138%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 Atk Krookodile Knock Off vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Azelf: 264-312 (90.7 - 107.2%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO

+2 252 SpA Azelf Thunderbolt vs. 80 HP / 4 SpD Moltres-Galar: 314-370 (92 - 108.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
+2 252 SpA Azelf Shattered Psyche (175 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Diancie: 300-354 (98.6 - 116.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

Azelf @ Mental Herb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 80 HP / 252 Def / 176 Spe
Naive Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Taunt
- Fire Blast
- Explosion

Would be a shame if were disadvantaged in the Lead Azelf mirror matchup all the time out of luck... Well say no more, Mental Herb Azelf turns this matchup on its head by allowing you to Taunt the opposing Azelf and get a free Rocks advantage as a result, all while surviving a forced Explosion from full.
252 Atk Azelf Explosion vs. 80 HP / 252 Def Azelf: 261-308 (83.9 - 99%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 Atk Krookodile Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 80 HP / 252 Def Azelf: 290-344 (93.2 - 110.6%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO (In case you mispredict with Taunt against Rocks, meaning that you can potentially get one more turn to setup your own hazards while they can't)
252 Atk Zeraora Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 80 HP / 252 Def Azelf: 190-224 (61 - 72%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Salamence Hurricane vs. 80 HP / 0- SpD Azelf: 238-282 (76.5 - 90.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

It's not even that hard to justify using over the standard set honestly, given how it can still do its job in other matchups as an HO Lead while outspeeding Krookodile, Zarude and Defog Salamence with the EVs.
