1v1 Necrozma [QC 3/3] [GP 2/2]

[OVERVIEW]
Necrozma finds its niche as a bulky special attacker or potent stall Pokemon in the 1v1 metagame. Necrozma's respectable bulk gives it the ability to tank Mega Charizard X's Outrage, Mega Lopunny's Fake Out followed by Giga Impact, Garchomp's Tectonic Rage, and even Mega Charizard Y's sun-boosted Blast Burn. With strong STAB options in Photon Geyser, Prismatic Laser, and Stored Power and a wide range of coverage moves such as Heat Wave, Necrozma has the capability to KO a large portion of the metagame including Mega Venusaur, Mega Charizard X, and Mega Metagross. Furthermore, its access to status moves including Moonlight, Iron Defense, and Calm Mind in combination with Stored Power allows it to also function as a strong setup attacker, setting up defensive boosts and channeling them into huge attacks. However, Necrozma's utility as a bulky attacker is limited by its lacking offensive stats, which causes it to be reliant on having the correct coverage moves in order to win most matchups, as well as restricting it to using Choice Specs as its most viable offensive option. As a stall user, it's completely helpless against Taunt users and is not as reliable as one may think, being susceptible to critical hits that bypass its stat boosts.

Moves
========

Prismatic Laser is Necrozma's hardest-hitting offensive move, OHKOing major threats in the metagame such as Mega Charizard X, Tapu Fini, and Primarina. Photon Geyser's secondary effects allows Necrozma to ignore enemy abilities, helping in matchups against Sturdy users like Crustle, Donphan, and FEAR Aron. As it doesn't come with a recharge turn, it's also helpful when playing mind games with Substitute users like bulky Landorus-T, which can attempt to avoid Prismatic Laser. Heat Wave allows Necrozma to hit Steel-type Pokemon such as Celesteela, offensive Mega Metagross, and Ferrothorn that resist its STAB moves. Signal Beam is one of Necrozma's primary coverage moves, allowing it to hit Psychic- and Dark- types that resist or are immune to Photon Geyser and Prismatic Laser, beating Greninja and offensive Mew. Hidden Power Ice is another coverage move that Necrozma can run, allowing for a guaranteed KO on Pokemon that are 4x weak to Ice-type moves that otherwise force Substitute predictions such as Garchomp, Landorus-T, and Zygarde. Another option is Hyper Voice, allowing Necrozma to gain specific matchups against Substitute users such as Substitute + Torrent Greninja and Flail Mega Lopunny. However, the opportunity cost is usually too great, and thus it isn't seen too often. Psyshock allows Necrozma to beat Tapu Lele consistently, even if they have Z-Reflect, but is otherwise inferior to Photon Geyser.

Set Details
========

176 HP and 100 Special Defense EVs let Necrozma tank a Choice Specs-boosted Bug Buzz from Genesect while retaining the physical bulk to beat threats like Fake Out + Giga Impact Mega Lopunny. Alternatively, a spread of 228 HP / 244 SpA / 36 SpD allows Necrozma to tank Mega Pinsir's Giga Impact and have a better matchup against Groundium Z Landorus-T, though it loses out on the Genesect matchup. 232 EVs in Special Attack with a Modest nature maximize Necrozma's attacking abilities after the bulk, letting it devastate key metagame threats like Mega Charizard X with its STAB Prismatic laser. Prism Armor improves Necrozma's bulk, allowing it to survive a Dark Pulse from Choice Specs Greninja.

Usage Tips
========

For Necrozma, given that it uses a Choice Item, most matchups are pretty straightforward: click the move that does the most damage. Prismatic Laser is the default move against less specially bulky Pokemon, since a 160-Base Power STAB move OHKOes most Pokemon that don't resist it. Against Sturdy users, use Photon Geyser, as it bypasses their ability. Against Dark-types like Greninja, use Signal Beam, and use Heat Wave against Steel-types like Magearna and offensive Mega Metagross. Against Substitute users like Garchomp and bulky Landorus-T, which if given a turn to set up will KO Necrozma but are eliminated by a Prismatic Laser, you must predict if they are going to use Substitute or a setup move, or use Hidden Power Ice if you are running it. Against non-Crunch Mega Gyarados, a similar prediction occurs but between whether or not they Mega Evolve. If you think they'll Mega Evolve, use Signal Beam. Otherwise, KO them with Prismatic Laser.

Team Options
========

Flyinium Z Landorus-T is a useful teammate, handling Mega Gyarados, Chansey, and Aegislash. In return, Necrozma takes care of threats to Landorus-T in the form of Greninja, Naganadel, and Primarina. Metal Sound Magnezone is also appreciated, since it breaks many of the specially bulky Pokemon that wall Necrozma like Chansey, Tapu Fini, Magearna, and Meloetta. Necrozma, meanwhile, can defeat Pokemon like Mega Charizard X, Donphan, and Mega Venusaur, which usually trouble Magnezone. Pokemon like Mega Gyarados also prove to be good teammates due to their wallbreaking capabilities, defeating Mega Sableye, Mega Slowbro, and Mega Aggron while appreciating Necrozma's assistance against Pokemon like Primarina and Mega Venusaur. Bulk Up Zeraora covers Steel- and Dark-types like Magnezone and Mega Gyarados, along with beating sleep users such as Smeargle and Jumpluff. In return, Necrozma defeats Pokemon like Donphan, Mega Altaria, Mega Charizard X, and Kommo-o that beat Electrium Z Zeraora.

Moves
========

Calm Mind allows Necrozma to break through Pokemon that boost up like Magearna as well as defend against hard hitters like Mega Charizard Y, special Dragonite, and Normalium Z Porygon-Z as effectively as possible. Iron Defense gives Necrozma the capacity to beat physical threats like Mega Charizard X and physical Dragonite. Moonlight allows Necrozma to recover while setting up. Stored Power lets Necrozma take advantage of its boosts and even break through Pokemon that 4x resist it like Mega Metagross.

Set Details
========

252 HP EVs maximize bulk for both defensive stats. 252 Special Defense EVs with a Calm nature allow Necrozma to tank a Blast Burn from Mega Charizard Y as well as maximize its chances against Breakneck Blitz from maximum Special Attack Porygon-Z. A pinch Berry such as Iapapa restores 50% health when Necrozma is at 25% or less, winning crucial matchups against foes like Greninja, Mega Charizard Y, Dragonite, and Choice Scarf Porygon-Z by allowing Necrozma to set up initially without worrying about recovery. Sitrus Berry can be used for a more consistent Charizard matchup, but overall it is outclassed by Iapapa Berry in almost every other matchup including against Greninja and Porygon-Z. Prism Armor is Necrozma's only ability and maximizes its bulk against super effective attackers.

Usage Tips
========
Don't send Necrozma out against Dark-types or Pokemon that use Taunt, as with the exception of some Choice item attackers like Greninja that you can PP stall, they totally shut down this set. Against physical attackers, use Iron Defense, and against special attackers, use Calm Mind. Against Pokemon that could be either physical or special like Charizard and Dragonite, there are general strategies that can cover both variants most of the time. Against Charizard, use Calm Mind turn one if you know it's Mega Charizard Y, as this helps against both Air Slash and Blast Burn; use Iron Defense for Mega Charizard X. If you don't know what forme it is, Moonlight is a safe play, as it is helpful against all but Dragon Dance Mega Charizard X. For Dragonite, just use Iron Defense, as Necrozma beats special Dragonite most of the time anyway; on the other hand, if you don't use Iron Defense, Necrozma will lose to Dragon Dance. After Iron Defense, you can usually safely boost up, since Iapapa Berry will let Necrozma recover after two attacks. Against Pokemon that do more than 60 damage but still less than 75% of Necrozma's health, you can use Moonlight turn 1 and then use a boosting move; Iapapa Berry will be able to activate and you can successfully stall out the opponent from there.

Team Options
========
Fighting-types like Kommo-o and Terrakion complement stall Necrozma well, dealing with Dark-type threats like Mega Gyarados and Incineroar that beat it. In return, Necrozma covers common weaknesses for the other two like Dragonite and Magearna. Powerful Bug-types like Durant and Genesect can beat Dark-types as well, in addition to key Taunt users like Kee Berry Mew and Tapu Bulu. In exchange, Necrozma deals with many physical attackers that the former struggle with like Dragonite, Donphan, and Mega Swampert. Garchomp makes a great partner, beating Mega Charizard X and Incineroar while Necrozma handles both Dragonite and Landorus-T.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

A physical Choice Scarf set can be run to lure threats like Hoopa-U and Volcarona that usually beat Necrozma, using X-Scissor and Stone Edge as well as Heat Wave and Photon Geyser for coverage.

Checks and Counters
===================
**Dark-types**: Dark-type Pokemon are immune to all damage from Stored Power Necrozma, but they must be careful of Signal Beam from Choice Specs Necrozma. Facing common threats like Mega Gyarados is often a prediction on your part, while Mega Tyranitar and Incineroar counter even Choice Specs Necrozma.

**Super Effective Attackers**: Pokemon like Volcarona and Aegislash can break both sets with their super effective STAB moves.

**Bulky Taunt Users**: Taunt users like Mew and Mega Gyarados can totally shut down the stall set while also handling Necrozma's attacks and KOing the Choice Specs set.

**Sleep Users**: Faster sleep users like Jumpluff, Smeargle, and Vivillon can take advantage of Necrozma's inability to bypass Substitute and low Speed to easily set up and KO it.

  • Necrozma finds its niche as a bulky special attacker or potent stall user in the 1v1 metagame, dealing huge damage with its two STAB signature moves, Prismatic Laser and Photon Geyser, or boosting up with status moves.
  • Necrozma, with Prism Armor, which reduces the damage of Super-effective attacks to 3/4, combined with respectable 97/101/89 bulk, allows it to function as either a bulky special attacker or a solid setup wall. With investment, Necrozma has the ability to tank Charizard-Mega-X's Outrage, Lopunny-Mega's Giga Impact, Garchomp's Z-Earthquake, and even Charizard-Mega-Y's Blast Burn in Sun.
  • With strong STAB options that allow it to deal major damage to neutral Pokémon, and a wide range of coverage moves, Necrozma has the capability to super-effectively hit a large portion of the metagame. However, Necrozma's utility as a bulky attacker is limited by the lack of stellar offensive stats, which causes it to be reliant on having the correct coverage moves in order to win most matchups.
  • Its status moves including Moonlight, Iron Defense, and Calm Mind allow it to also function as a strong setup attacker.
  • With the proper investment, Necrozma is best run as a slow offensive or defensive set. Fast sets are not as effective as they reduce its offensive and defensive capabilities by requiring a heavy Speed investment.
You repeat that it's both a bulky spattacker and stallmon in every bullet point. Revise this section to be less repetitive

  • Turn 1, the play is usually to boost up the respective stat of the opponent's attacks. You basically say this same thing in the next line
  • For Against physical attackers, use Iron Defense, and against special attackers, use Calm Mind for special attackers. You can usually safely boost up since Iapapa Berry (make sure to change Iapapa to Sitrus or Iapapa/Sitrus if set is changed) will let you recover after two attacks.
  • Against Pokemon that do more than 60 but less than 75% of your health like Charizard Mega X (66 for physical attackers), you can actually Moonlight turn 1, then use a boosting move; Iapapa berry will be able to activate and you can successfully stall out the opponent from there. • A physical Choice Scarf set can be run to lure threats like Hoopa-U or Volcarona that usually beat Necrozma using X Scissor and Stone Edge, as well as Heat Wave and Photon Geyser for coverage.
  • The two sets cover each other very well, and the few counters to both like Aegislash can't really be addressed, so other options are pretty limited. Unnecessary

**Super-Effective Attackers**: Pokemon like Volcarona and Aegislash can break both sets with their Super-effective STAB moves.

**Bulky Taunt**: Taunt users like Mew and Gyarados-Mega can totally shut down the Stall set, which finish?...

Bolded is additions, strikethrough is stuff that should be removed, underline needs to be edited in some way, red is comments. All information I bring are based on 1630 Usage stats (considering anything at or above 6% as of August 2019 usage relevant) and Calcs.
Part dropped this, taking over with permission from TDA
[OVERVIEW]
Necrozma finds its niche as a bulky special attacker or potent stall user in the 1v1 metagame, dealing huge damage with its two STAB signature moves, Prismatic Laser and Photon Geyser, or boosting up with status moves. Necrozma, with Prism Armor, which reduces the damage of Super-effective attacks to 3/4, combined with respectable 97/101/89 base stats not needed, no contextual meaning for new players bulk, has the ability to tank Charizard-Mega-X's Outrage, Lopunny-Mega's Giga Impact, Garchomp's Z-Earthquake, and even Charizard-Mega-Y's Blast Burn in Sun. None of these attacks are super effective, why is Prism armor relevant? With strong STAB options that allow it to deal major damage to neutral Pokémon, and a wide range of coverage moves, Necrozma has the capability to super-effectively hit a large portion of the metagame such as?. However, Necrozma's utility as a bulky attacker is limited by the lack of stellar offensive stats, which causes it to be reliant on having the correct coverage moves in order to win most matchups. Its status moves including Moonlight, Iron Defense, and Calm Mind allow it to also function as a strong setup attacker. elaborate a bit, include how it is used with Stored Power to deal great amounts of damage while also bulking past powerful hits. Also move this point after the 'large portion of the metagame' sentence. With the proper investment, Necrozma is best run as a slow offensive or defensive set. already said this in the first sentence basically Fast sets are not as effective as they reduce its offensive and defensive capabilities by requiring a heavy Speed investment. not needed, not being fast isn't an intrinsically important aspect in 1v1

Include the negative aspects of the stall set, how it has no defense against Taunt and will almost inevitably be crit once in any matchup, which hinders its reliability

Prismatic Laser is Necrozma's hardest hitting offensive move, OHKOing major threats in the metagame such as Charizard-Mega-X, Kommo-o, and uninvested Zeraora after Charge wouldn't list this as an example, since it can 50/50 with z charge. Photon Geyser, Necrozma's other signature move, is helpful when Necrozma isn't able to OHKO an opponent with Prismatic Laser. yeah. thats kinda obvious xd It also helps in breaking Substitutes that would otherwise force Necrozma to waste a turn recharging who uses substitute? examples needed. Photon Geyser's secondary effect allows it to ignore enemy abilities, helping in matchups against Sturdy users like Crustle, Donphan, and FEAR Aron. Heat Wave allows Necrozma to hit steel Pokémon such as Celesteela, Genesect genesect murders you, and Ferrothorn that resist its STAB. Signal Beam is one of Necrozma's primary coverage moves, allowing it to hit Psychic and Dark types that resist or are resistant or immune to Photon Geyser and Prismatic Laser, beating Greninja and offensive Mew. Hidden Power Ice is another coverage move that Necrozma can run, allowing for a guaranteed KO of Pokémon 4x weak to Ice moves that otherwise force Substitute predictions such as Garchomp, Landorus-Therian, and Zygarde. Another option is Hyper Voice, allowing Necrozma to gain specific matchups against Substitute users such as SubTorrent Greninja and Flail Mega Lopunny. However, the opportunity cost is usually too great and thus it isn't seen too often. Psyshock allows Necrozma to beat Tapu Lele consistently, even if they have Z-Reflect. However, you only gain very specific matchups and this is ill advised for the tradeoff of one of the other crucial coverage moves.

Set Details
========

228 HP EVs and 36 EVs in SpD let Necrozma to tank Choice Specs Hydro Cannon from Greninja and Specs Draco Meteor from Timid Naganadel while retaining the physical bulk to beat threats like Mega-Pinsir's Giga Impact and Mega-Lopunny's Fake Out -> Giga Impact. Prism Armor improves Necrozma's bulk, allowing it to survive a Choice Scarf Genesect Bug Buzz +1 252+ SpA Genesect Bug Buzz vs. 228 HP / 36 SpD Prism Armor Necrozma: 364-429 (92.8 - 109.4%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO this is choice scarf and a Dark Pulse from Specs Greninja. 244 EVs in Special Attack with a Modest nature maximize Necrozma's attacking abilities after the bulk, letting it devastate key metagame threats like Charizard Mega X with its STAB Prismatic laser.

Usage Tips
========

Necrozma is best suited for matchups against Pokémon that do not have exceptionally strong STAB moves that could OHKO it, such as Charizard Mega Y or Normalium Z Porygon Z this sentence is super misleading, its making it sound like Necrozma should be sent out against Char y and ZPZ because they don't have exceptionally strong stab attacks, which is wrong. In fact, considering the kinda 'no duh' nature of that point (don't send it against stuff that OHKOes you) you may want to remove the sentence Given that it uses a Choice Item, most matchups are pretty straightforward: click the move that does the most damage. Prismatic Laser is the default move against less specially bulky Pokémon, since a 160 BP STAB OHKOs most Pokemon that don't resist it. Against Sturdy users or Dragonite dnite bulky, you're basically dead no matter what, use Photon Geyser as it bypasses these abilities. Against Dark-Types like Greninja, use Signal Beam, and use Heat Wave against Steels like Magearna or offensive Mega-Metagross. Against Substitute users like Garchomp or Landorus-Therian, who, given a turn to set up will KO you but die to a Prismatic Laser, you must predict if they are going to use Substitute or a setup move, or use Hidden Power Ice if you are running it. If they set up and you use Prismatic laser, you OHKO them but if they Substitute you lose. Against Mega Gyarados, a similar prediction occurs but between whether or not they Mega. If you think they'll mega, use Signal Beam. Otherwise, KO them with Prismatic Laser.

Team Options
========

Flyinium Z Landorus-Therian is a useful teammate, handling Gyarados-Mega, Chansey, and Aegislash. In return, Necrozma takes care of threats to Landorus-Therian in the form of Greninja, Naganadel, and Primarina. Charizard-Mega-X this is a weird example, spdef can beat Meloetta if they know its spdef and Chansey can cheese it with counter and toxic. Maybe a steel type would be better? is also appreciated, since it covers many of the specially-bulky Pokémon that wall Necrozma, like Chansey and Meloetta. Necrozma, meanwhile, can defeat Pokémon like Mega-Altaria, Donphan, Mega-Venusaur, and Greninja which usually trouble Charizard-Mega-X. change this sentence when you change the example Pokémon like Gyarados-Mega also prove good teammates due to its wallbreaking capabilities, defeating Sableye-Mega, Slowbro-Mega, and Mega Aggron, etc, while appreciating Necrozma's assistance against Pokémon like Tapu Fini fini can tank even prismatic and win with GoA into brine or CM into Waterium and Venusaur-Mega. Bulk Up Zeraora also proves a good teammate by covering Steel and Dark types like Magnezone and Gyarados-Mega, along with beating speed traps such as Smeargle and Jumpluff. In return, Necrozma defeats Pokémon like Donphan, Altaria-Mega, Charizard-Mega-X, and Kommo-o that beat Zeraora.

Calm Mind allows Necrozma to boost its Special Defense while also increasing its Special Attack, allowing it to break through Pokemon that boost up as well like Magearna, as well as defend against hard hitters like Mega Charizard Y, special Dragonite ,and Normalium Z Porygon Z as effectively as possible. Iron Defense lets Necrozma increase its Defense, beating physical threats like Charizard-Mega-X and physical Dragonite. Moonlight, alongside a Iapapa berry, would be true with or without berry. Berry just helps once allows Necrozma to recover while setting up. Stored Power lets Necrozma take advantage of its boosts and even break through Pokemon that 4x resist it like Metagross-Mega. There are no other viable move options as each of these is key to making the set function. not needed

Set Details
========

248 HP EVs maximize bulk for both defensive stats. 240 Special Defense EVs with a Calm nature allow Necrozma to tank a Blast Burn from Charizard Mega Y as well as a Z Hyper Beam from Porygon-Z (most of the time). The rest of the EVs are put into Defense to maximize Necrozma's chances against Charizard Mega X and other physical attackers. so the 20 evs in def doesn't really help against char x at all. in fact, against offensive char x the play will probably be more mind game related, deciding whether or not they will attack immediately or ddance, if they attack immediately you win with Moonlight. I would switch the set to simple 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD, which also gives you the best odds if Char Y uses Solar Beam before Blast Burn to try and get you in range of blast burn. A pinch berry such as Iapapa restores 50% health when Necrozma is at 25% or less, winning crucial matchups like Greninja, Charizard Mega Y, and Scarf Porygon-Z by allowing Necrozma to set up initially without worrying about recovery. Sitrus Berry can be used for a more consistent Zard matchup, but on the whole it is outclassed by Iapapa in almost every other matchup including Greninja and Porygon-Z. Prism Armor is Necrozma's only ability and maximizes its bulk against Super-effective attackers.

Usage Tips
========

max spdef also improves your chances vs normalium pz, from 25% to 18.8. Again, the extra defense gains nothing. Also, mentioning that you can just moonlight spam till sun runs out reminded me that they fish for flinches with air slash, meaning that Char Y will win about 67% of the time (getting 1 flinch in 3 turns). I suppose we could specify non-air slash variants, bc they're on the decline nowadays, but we'd need to clarify the char y matchup anyway. Pm me on discord so we can talk more about this Synonimous

Necrozma finds its niche as a bulky special attacker or potent stall user in the 1v1 metagame, dealing huge damage with its two STAB signature moves, Prismatic Laser and Photon Geyser, or boosting up with status moves. fits better below Necrozma's respectable bulk has the ability to tank Charizard-Mega-X's Outrage, Lopunny-Mega's Fake Out into Giga Impact, Garchomp's Z-Earthquake, and even Charizard-Mega-Y's Blast Burn in Sun. However, Necrozma's utility as a bulky attacker is limited by the lack of stellar offensive stats, which causes it to be reliant on having the correct coverage moves in order to win most matchups, as well as restricting it to using Choice Specs as its most viable offensive option. As a stall user, it's completely helpless against Taunt users and is also unreliable not as reliable as one may think, if it was unreliable we wouldn't make it a main set being susceptible to critical hits which bypass its stat boosts. Necrozma, however, still functions as a solid threat in the metagame despite these setbacks. not needed, don't allow summary sentences at the end of overview, adds nothing

Photon Geyser's secondary effect allows it to ignore enemy abilities, helping in matchups against Sturdy users like Crustle, Donphan, and FEAR Aron. I would switch these two points, as the sub mus are more of 50/50s/mindgames Heat Wave allows Necrozma to hit steel Pokémon such as Celesteela, offensive Mega-Metagross, and Ferrothorn that resist its STAB. The optimal play for zard y is CM, so if you Moonlight t2 without flinching you basically win. Just in general clarify that for zard y u cm, ddance offensive x is a 50/50, and fc is iron defense, but include that if you don't know what zard it is, moonlighting is a safe play. Hidden Power Ice is another coverage move that Necrozma can run, allowing for a guaranteed KO of Pokémon on Pokemon that are 4x weak to Ice-type moves that otherwise force Substitute predictions such as Garchomp, Landorus-Therian, and Zygarde. 176 HP EVs and 100 EVs in SpD Special Defense EVs let Necrozma to tank a Choice Specs Bug Buzz from Genesect while retaining the physical bulk to beat threats like Mega Lopunny's Fake Out into Giga Impact. Alternatively, a spread of 228 HP / 244 SpA / 36 SpD allows Necrozma to tank Mega Pinsir's Giga Impact and have a better matchup against Groundium-Z Landorus-Therian Landorus-T, though it loses out on the Genesect matchup. 232 EVs in Special Attack with a Modest nature maximize Necrozma's attacking abilities after the bulk, letting it devastate key metagame threats like Mega Charizard X with its STAB Prismatic laser. Usage Tips

For Necrozma, given that it uses a Choice Item, most matchups are pretty straightforward: click the move that does the most damage. Prismatic Laser is the default move against less specially bulky Pokémon Pokemon, since a 160 BP 160-Base Power STAB move OHKOes most Pokemon that don't resist it. Against Sturdy users, (AC) use Photon Geyser, (AC) as it bypasses these abilities their ability. Against Dark-types like Greninja, use Signal Beam, and use Heat Wave against Steels Steel-types like Magearna or and offensive Mega Metagross. Against Substitute users like Garchomp or and bulky Landorus-Therian, who, Landorus-T, which given a turn to set up will KO you Necrozma but die to are eliminated by a Prismatic Laser, you must predict if they are going to use Substitute or a setup move, or use Hidden Power Ice if you are running it. Against non-Crunch Mega Gyarados, a similar prediction occurs but between whether or not they Mega Evolve. If you think they'll Mega Evolve, use Signal Beam. Otherwise, KO them with Prismatic Laser.

Flyinium Z Landorus-Therian is a useful teammate, handling Gyarados-Mega Mega Gyarados, Chansey, and Aegislash. In return, Necrozma takes care of threats to Landorus-Therian in the form of Greninja, Naganadel, and Primarina. Metal Sound Magnezone is also appreciated, since it breaks many of the specially-bulky Pokémon specially bulky Pokemon that wall Necrozma like Chansey, Tapu Fini, Magearna, and Meloetta. Necrozma finds its niche as a bulky special attacker or potent stall user in the 1v1 metagame. Necrozma's respectable bulk has gives it the ability to tank Mega Charizard X's Outrage, Mega Lopunny's Fake Out into Giga Impact, Garchomp's Z-Earthquake Tectonic Rage, and even Mega Charizard Y's Blast Burn in sun. With strong STAB options in Photon Geyser, Prismatic Laser, and Stored Power and a wide range of coverage moves such as Heat Wave, Necrozma has the capability to KO a large portion of the metagame from including Mega Venusaur, (AC) to Mega Charizard X, (AC) to and Mega Metagross. Its status moves including Moonlight, Iron Defense, and Calm Mind in combination with Stored Power allows it to also function as a strong setup attacker, setting up defense boosts and unleashing them into huge attacks. However, Necrozma's utility as a bulky attacker is limited by the lack of stellar offensive stats, which causes it to be reliant on having the correct coverage moves in order to win most matchups, as well as restricting it to using Choice Specs as its most viable offensive option. As a stall user, it's completely helpless against Taunt users and is not as reliable as one may think, being susceptible to critical hits which that bypass its stat boosts.

Against Pokemon that do more than 60 damage 60% but still less than 75% of Necrozma's health, you can use Moonlight turn 1 one, then use a boosting move; Iapapa Berry will be able to activate and you can successfully stall out the opponent from there.

Fighting-types like Kommo-o and Terrakion complement stall Stored Power (refer to it via the set name you gave it) Necrozma well, dealing with Dark-type threats like Mega Gyarados and Incineroar that beat it. In return, Necrozma covers common weaknesses for of the other two like Dragonite and Magearna. Garchomp makes for a great partner, beating Mega Charizard X and Incineroar while Necrozma handles both Dragonite and Landorus-T for it.

A physical physically based (it's not pure physical since you have heat wave) Choice Scarf set utilizing Photon Geyser / Heat Wave / X-Scissor / Stone Edge can be run to lure threats like Hoopa-U or and Volcarona that usually beat Necrozma using X-Scissor and Stone Edge, as well as Heat Wave and Photon Geyser for coverage.

Checks and Counters

**Dark-types**: Dark-type Pokemon are immune to all damage from Stored Power Necrozma, but must be careful of Signal Beam from Choice Specs Necrozma. Facing common threats like Mega Gyarados is often often requires a prediction on your part, while Mega Tyranitar and Incineroar counter Choice Specs Necrozma.

**(Pokemon with) Super Effective Attackers Attacks**: Pokemon like Volcarona and Aegislash can break both Necrozma sets with their super effective STAB moves.

**Bulky Taunt Users**: Taunt users like Mew and Mega Gyarados can totally shut down the stall Stored Power set while also handling Necrozma's attacks from and KOing the Choice Specs set.

**Sleep Users**: Faster sleep users like Jumpluff, Smeargle, and Vivillon can take advantage of Necrozma's inability to bypass Substitute and low Speed to easily set up on and KO it.

[OVERVIEW]
Necrozma finds its niche as a bulky special attacker or potent stall user Pokemon in the 1v1 metagame. Necrozma's respectable bulk gives it the ability to tank Mega Charizard X's Outrage, Mega Lopunny's Fake Out into followed by Giga Impact, Garchomp's Tectonic Rage, and even Mega Charizard Y's sun-boosted Blast Burn in sun. (optional, cleanness) With strong STAB options in Photon Geyser, Prismatic Laser, and Stored Power and a wide range of coverage moves such as Heat Wave, Necrozma has the capability to KO a large portion of the metagame including Mega Venusaur, to Mega Charizard X, and Mega Metagross. Furthermore, its access to status moves including Moonlight, Iron Defense, and Calm Mind in combination with Stored Power allows it to also function as a strong setup attacker, setting up defensive boosts and unleashing channeling (slightly less awkward i think?) them into huge attacks. However, Necrozma's utility as a bulky attacker is limited by the lack of stellar its lacking offensive stats, which causes it to be reliant on having the correct coverage moves in order to win most matchups, as well as restricting it to using Choice Specs as its most viable offensive option. As a stall user, it's completely helpless against Taunt users and is not as reliable as one may think, being susceptible to critical hits that bypass its stat boosts.

As it doesn't have to come with a recharge turn, it's also helpful when playing mindgames mind games with Substitute users like bulky Landorus-T, which can attempt to avoid Prismatic Laser with Substitute. However, the opportunity cost is usually too great, (AC) and thus it isn't seen too often. Psyshock allows Necrozma to beat Tapu Lele consistently, even if they have Z-Reflect, but is otherwise inferior to Photon Geyser.

Set Details
========

176 HP and 100 Special Defense EVs let Necrozma tank a Choice Specs-boosted Bug Buzz from Genesect while retaining the physical bulk to beat threats like Mega Lopunny's Fake Out into + Giga Impact Mega Lopunny. Alternatively, a spread of 228 HP / 244 SpA / 36 SpD allows Necrozma to tank Mega Pinsir's Giga Impact and have a better matchup against Groundium Z (RH) Landorus-T, though it loses out on the Genesect matchup.

Usage Tips
========

========

Bulk Up Zeraora also is a good teammate, covering covers Steel- and Dark-types like Magnezone and Mega Gyarados, along with beating sleep users such as Smeargle and Jumpluff. In return, Necrozma defeats Pokemon like Donphan, Mega Altaria, Mega Charizard X, and Kommo-o that beat Electrium Z Zeraora.

Calm Mind allows Necrozma to boost its Special Defense while also increasing its Special Attack, allowing it to break through Pokemon that boost up like Magearna as well as defend against hard hitters like Mega Charizard Y, special Dragonite, and Normalium Z Porygon-Z as effectively as possible. Iron Defense lets gives Necrozma increase its Defense, giving it the capacity to beat physical threats like Mega Charizard X and physical Dragonite. Moonlight allows Necrozma to recover while setting up. Stored Power lets Necrozma take advantage of its boosts and even break through Pokemon that 4x resist it like Mega Metagross.

Set Details

252 HP EVs maximize bulk for both defensive stats. 252 Special Defense EVs with a Calm nature allow Necrozma to tank a Blast Burn from Mega Charizard Y as well as maximize its chances against Breakneck Blitz from maximum Special Attack Porygon-Z. The rest of the EVs are put into Defense to maximize Necrozma's chances against Mega Charizard X and other physical attackers. (it's literally 4 evs, does this accomplish any calcs of note? rn it reads like the investment is actually significant, so i'd prefer to just delete this sentence) A pinch Berry such as Iapapa restores 50% health when Necrozma is at 25% or less, winning crucial matchups against foes like Greninja, Mega Charizard Y, Dragonite, and Choice Scarf Porygon-Z by allowing Necrozma to set up initially without worrying about recovery. Sitrus Berry can be used for a more consistent Charizard matchup, but overall it is outclassed by Iapapa Berry in almost every other matchup including against Greninja and Porygon-Z. Prism Armor is Necrozma's only ability and maximizes its bulk against super effective attackers.

Usage Tips
========
Don't send Necrozma out against non-Dark-types or Pokemon that use Taunt, as with the exception of some Choice item attackers like Greninja that you can PP stall, they totally shut down this set. Against physical attackers, use Iron Defense, and against special attackers, use Calm Mind. Against Pokemon that could be either physical or special like Charizard or and Dragonite, there are general strategies that can cover both stats variants most of the time. Against Charizard, use Calm Mind turn one if you know it's Mega Charizard Y, as this helps against both Air Slash and Blast Burn; use Iron Defense for Mega Charizard Mega X. If you don't know what forme it is, Moonlight is a safe play, as it is helpful against all but Dragon Dance Mega Charizard X. For Dragonite, just use Iron Defense, as Necrozma beats special Dragonite most of the time anyways anyway; and on the other hand, if you don't use Iron Defense, you Necrozma will lose to Dragon Dance.
