SM OU new to competitive

i am recently getting into the competitive scene of pokemon and tried making my own team. i kept the different roles in mind(attacker, special attacker, wall, special wall and got some type of support). i also looked at typing so that i wouldn't be super weak against a lot of types. i tried it out on showdown but lost a few times. i don't know if this is due to me being new to this or having a bad team (or both).

when i played on showdown empoleon, skarmory and latios seemed to work good. the rest just seemed to get wiped.
