Looks like we have a tie, so I'll break it! Smallsmallrose, I like your submission the most. It's pretty unique and doesn't require as heavy of support as BD (just some hazard support probably, really). Thanks for submitting, everyone :D

Mega Aero probably has some undiscovered sets left, right? Maybe? We'll see. Say hello to the speedy boy himself!

Basically, this is the same idea as sub Terrakion. Taking advantage of common switch-ins like Scizor or a bulky water can give you a little bit of time to scout the play, get some damage off without being immediately forced out, or dodge status from some Pokémon such as Alomomola.

lmk if this breaks the submission category

Mega Aerodactyl attracts in a plethora of fat mons that don’t appreciate toxic— Slowbro, Alo, etc. Ice Fang hits gligar hard as possible while EdgeQuake provides nice coverage.

So this is pretty much a set that lets it outspeed the entire boosted metagame. I personally opted for Tailwind over Rock Polish or Agility to benefit the team. You can set it up on all the doubles Maero forces or on a sharpedo protect. Can also be used as a last ditch effort to benefit a potential sweeper on your team. Standard stab moves with SE and Wing Attack. EQ as the final coverage move which helps vs steel amd electric types but honestly any coverage move could be slapped on like Fire Fang for Scizor or Aqua Tail for bulky ground types etc.

I'm not sure if this breaks the rules based on the coverage but hope you like the set ^_^

Protect is nice to scout what choiced mons are locking themselves into, like Scizor, Hydreigon and Krookodile, the latter of which (and Scizor ig) may try to Pursuit trap a weakened Maero.

so this is the abomination i found
idk just like most mons only have 1 move to hit aero?
all your steels and shit cant touch it after a torment or smth this set would prob work once in 10 games tbh

- Substitute

This is what i decided on. I felt that toxic was a really nice option as a lure for bulky waters such as slowbro and suicune, permanently crippling them if heal bell is not on the team. Substitute allows for toxic stalling more easily and makes sure mons like gligar are incapable of actually touching you, giving you the option to throw off a few stone edges. I felt that roost was necessary when running sub aero since it added longevity- making it easier to continue to substitute for the duration of the battle.

Alright, let's delve into the depths of the unexplored.

Toxicroak has been put on the backburner pretty much all gen, oscillating around c+ and b- in the viability rankings and being really, really heavily unused. It's got a lot of promise in its movepool, and it's mainly been sticking to the same two sets all gen. Does anything else work well? That's what we're here to find out.

The following sets are blacklisted:
Toxicroak @ Life Orb / Poisonium Z / Fightinium Z / Darkinium Z
Ability: Dry Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Drain Punch
- Gunk Shot
- Sucker Punch / Ice Punch

Knock Off is banned also

Toxicroak @ Life Orb / STAB Z-Crystals
Ability: Dry Skin
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Vacuum Wave
- Sludge Wave
- Focus Blast

(Z) Dark Pulse/HP Ice/Icy Wind banned also

Toxicroak @ Black Sludge / Fightinium-Z
Ability: Dry Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 40 Atk / 216 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Drain Punch
- Super Fang
- Taunt
- Substitute

So this set pretty much aims to be an absolute pain for bulky teams to deal with thanks to the combination of Super Fang + Taunt. Super Fang cuts it's checks down to 50% HP which can force them to attempt to heal which Taunt shuts down. I opted for Substitute to be more annoying in general against certain walls or revenge killers. Lastly Drain Punch for recovery and to handle the steel types in the tier. Honestly black sludge isn't a necessity so Fightinium-Z could be used to help break Coba, Aggron etc. I haven't really optimised the evs but I made it as bulky as possible while outspeeding base 80s. The rest was dumped into Atk.

Toxicroak @ Black Sludge
Ability: Dry Skin
EVs: 248 HP / 44 SpD / 216 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Substitute
- Bulk Up
- Drain Punch
- Poison Jab

Yes ladies and gentleman, sub bulk up croak is being revived at last. Substitute allows you to avoid spore, para, etc on any mons that might want to cripple you for the game and it allows you to gain momentum in these situations as your opponent frantically thinks of what to do.

Black sludge with drain punch gives you longevity in order to heal back the damage you're taking from opposing mons and substitute. Poison jab acts as extra stab in order to hit fairies like togekiss for a 2ko (they can't actually damage you in return because of substitute). Bulk up is what this set is centered around, with it allowing you to boost your physical defense and attack in order to make it nearly impossible for physical attackers to break even the substitute, let alone the frog behind it. The ability was always going to be dry skin, as it allows you to switch in and heal yourself by way of opposing water type attacks.

The speed is to outspeed max speed base 80s such as togekiss and mamoswine. I maximized the hp in order to help keep the substitute up for as long as possible. I invested the rest in special defense because, unlike attack and speed, it does not get boosted by bulk up so I wanted to give toxicroak better capabilities when faced with special attacking threats. You can also choose to run 240 hp and 52 spdf to guarantee avoiding a 2ko from max special attack thunderbolt zeraora, amongst other things.

Toxicroak @ Figy Berry
Ability: Dry Skin
EVs: 132 HP / 160 Atk / 216 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Bulk Up
- Drain Punch
- Gunk Shot
- Counter
What are the most common answers to toxicroak and a host of other physical attackers such as cobalion and bisharp?
Bulky ground types.
This set aims to lure in and eliminate the main bulky grounds (hippowdon, gligar, quagsire, m-steelix, etc.) so another teammate can clean up later.
With bulk up, you always live an earthquake from all the common defensive ground types and mega aggron, so you can KO them with counter and activate your figy berry. 132 hp lets you live eq from quagsire after rocks for it ignores bulk up thanks to unaware. 216 speed jolly nature lets you outspeed base 80 speed threats like togekiss and mamoswine. The rest is put in attack so once the opponent's bulky ground types are gone, toxicroak will be hard to switch into thanks to its great stabs.
  • 0 Atk Hippowdon Earthquake vs. +1 132 HP / 0 Def Toxicroak: 224-266 (65.8 - 78.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after sandstorm damage
  • 0 Atk Unaware Quagsire Earthquake vs. 132 HP / 0 Def Toxicroak: 270-318 (79.4 - 93.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock
  • 36+ Atk Steelix-Mega Earthquake vs. +1 132 HP / 0 Def Toxicroak: 282-332 (82.9 - 97.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
  • 0 Atk Gligar Earthquake vs. +1 132 HP / 0 Def Toxicroak: 162-192 (47.6 - 56.4%) -- 80.9% chance to 2HKO
  • 0 Atk Aggron-Mega Earthquake vs. +1 132 HP / 0 Def Toxicroak: 182-216 (53.5 - 63.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
This set should be paired with other cleaners/sweepers that have trouble breaking through these mons, such as mega aero, mega sharpedo, cobalion, sd scizor, etc.

Toxicroak @ Ghostium Z
Ability: Dry Skin
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Wave
- Focus Blast

So this set is supposed to allow it to break through some of the psychic and ghost types in the tier that may look to check it. Ghostium-Z allows you to nuke the likes of Gengar, Doublade and deal a decent chunk to Latias so minimal chip dmg is required. In general can nuke past some bulkier walls when boosted like tentacruel which resist it's dual stab.

252 SpA Toxicroak Never-Ending Nightmare (160 BP) vs. 240 HP / 16 SpD Eviolite Doublade: 300-354 (94 - 110.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock

252 SpA Toxicroak Never-Ending Nightmare (160 BP) vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Latias: 212-250 (70.1 - 82.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

+4 252 SpA Toxicroak Never-Ending Nightmare (160 BP) vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Tentacruel: 337-397 (92.8 - 109.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock and Black Sludge recovery
this is basically functionally identical to dark pulse and therefore we'd like for you to pick a diff set

Toxicroak @ Life Orb
Ability: Dry Skin
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Taunt
- Sludge Wave
- Drain Punch
- Hidden Power [Ice] / Dark Pulse

Sorry for being so late I forgot this existed. Taunt allows it to be a stallbreaker, max SpA to guarantee the 2hko on max def Slowbro after Rocks chip and HP Ice for Gligar. This set is hardwalled by Tenta but it can't touch you so it doesn't matter much. You could run Focus Blast over HP Ice for a stronger STAB to hit Quagsire ig but I prefer the coverage HP ice offers. Dark Pulse is ok for (Mega) Slowbro and to hit Palossand harder while hitting Tenta for semi-decent damage but it doesn't offer much outside of this.
