Project Next Best Thing: USUM UU (Week 45: Jellicent - Submissions)

Rose is imo and without a doubt the best things we got so far this week. It's pure genius..
He didn't mention it but Z-Steel Wing actually obliterates another Moltres's counter : Diancie !

4 Atk Moltres Corkscrew Crash (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Diancie: 284-336 (93.4 - 110.5%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO after Leftovers recovery

On the other hand, I vote for Papa because Wide Lens is an underrated but useful item on Moltres !

Darksafadao

best of the second options
Smallsmallrose - 5
Twilight - 4
Scizorphobic - 4
Moutemoute - 3
PapaBisexual - 2
Sickist - 1

With this Smallsmallrose wins this week, congratulations

And the pick of this week is the phantom owl Pokémon Decidueye! With an interesting stat distribution, typing, and movepool, Decidueye has a niche in the UU tier and also leaves room to be explored. However, the following set is blacklisted:

Decidueye @ Decidium Z
Ability: Filler Ability
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly / Adamant Nature
- Leaf Blade
- Spirit Shackle
- Swords Dance
- Substitute / Shadow Sneak

Deadline is due to Friday. Have fun!

Decidueye @ Meadow Plate
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 164 HP / 92 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Leaf Storm
- Defog
- U-turn
- Roost
This is a spin on the defog utility set for Decidueye used by NU. It's purpose in UU specifically is to scare various grounds like Palossand and Hippowdon away while defogging their hazards. This set also acts as a Prim check, as the spread is to always take 1 Specs Prim Moonblast after rocks and threaten an immediate OHKO in return with meadow plate leaf storm.

Decidueye @ Fightinium Z
Ability: Long Reach
EVs: 16 HP / 252 Atk / 68 SpD / 172 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Low Sweep
- Spirit Shackle
- Roost / Substitute
- Leaf Blade

Probably the most time I have ever spent making a set for one of these but wow.

Alright, so the key part here is Low Sweep and Fightium Z. This allows Decidueye to lure in all the dark types that resist it's grass STAB as well (par Muk-Alola). Leaf Blade and Spirit Shackle still act as your STABs. Roost allows you to keep Decidueye healthy throughout the match. Substitute acts as a way to avoid stray Sucker Punches, Toxic's, or get a free hit off on something. The Z is usually intended for darks such as Hydreigon and Bisharp, but it can dent Rotom Heat, Snipes Empoleon (questionable on whether this thing would actually stay in varies on the matchup), and either makes Mamoswine extinct again or makes it wish it was.

Now for the EVs. 16 HP EVs make sure that Decid lives non-specs dark pulse from hydreigon from full every time. 252 Attack is obviously so Decid can hit as hard as possible. 172 Speed hits 219, which is enough to outspeed all non-scarfed Hydreigon at -1 speed. The other 68 SpD EVs are thrown there to make it more specially bulky, allowing it to eat 2 Crit HP fires from Amoongus and eat an unboosted Z Psychic from Celebi after rocks. Long Reach prevents Rocky Helmet Damage, which is always nice.

So Yea, in summary, this set is the most niche thing I could've spent my time making, so I hope you all enjoy it.

Decidueye @ Choice Band
Ability: Overgrow / Long Reach
EVs: 16 HP / 240 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- U-turn
- Leaf Blade
- Spirit Shackle
- Shadow Sneak / Sucker Punch

Choice Band is a valuable item for Decidueye and allows it to hit pretty hard without having to setup. Since Decidueye have access to U-Turn it can act as a nice offensive Pivot. U-Turn is useful and allows it to hit pretty hard Pokemon like Krookodile which would like to trap it or Hydreigon which is a super common Switch-in to SD Decidueye. The EVs spread allows Decidueye to never be OHKO by Hydreigon's Dark Pulse.

Decidueye @ Ghostium Z
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Leaf Storm / Giga drain / Energy Ball
- Hidden Power [Ice] / [Fighting]
- Shadow Ball

So it gets NP which allows it to boost its decent SpA stat. In conjunction with Ghostium-Z it can nuke Pokemon like Aggron and Scizor etc. Leaf Storm is it's strongest stab but you can run giga drain for passive recovery or energy ball as a mid-ground. HP Ice let's it punish Hydreion which otherwise walls it and flying types like pidgeot. Alternatively you can use HP Fighting to hit bisharp while still hitting hydra.

+2 252 SpA Decidueye Never-Ending Nightmare (160 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Aggron-Mega: 361-426 (104.9 - 123.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+2 252 SpA Decidueye Never-Ending Nightmare (160 BP) vs. 248 HP / 4 SpD Scizor: 520-613 (151.6 - 178.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Decidueye @ Decidium Z / Grassium Z
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 24 HP / 232 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Protect
- Leaf Blade
- Spirit Shackle

The spread on Decidueye allows it to never be OHKO by Hydreigon's Dark Pulse or Krookodile's Knock Off when running a Z-Crystal. The scouting with Protect is really nice against those scarfed threats and pairs nicely with the Justified mons, moreso Terrakion since it can take Fire Blast from Hydreigon too.

Sub+Toxic Decidueye

Decidueye @ Leftovers
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Roost
- Spirit Shackle
- Toxic
- Substitute

This set aims to use the combination of Spirit Shackle + Toxic to wear down the opponent, while keeping the HP high thanks to Roost.
Substitute allows us to scout the opponent and prevent him to Toxic our defensive Decidueye. Spirit Shackle is a great addition alongside Toxic because it puts a lot of pressure on the opposite threat unless U-turn or Volt Switch.
The EVs spread is meant to have the maximum bulk and Spe possible.

Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 24 HP / 152 Atk / 80 SpA / 252 Spe
Naughty Nature
- Work Up
- Spirit Shackle
- Leaf Storm
- Sucker Punch/Leaf Blade/HP fire

Fairly customisable EV's depending on what you actually want the set to deal with. Normalium-Z for a +2 Attack / +1 SpAttack Work up, or Grassium-Z for a free Z-Leaf Storm.

80 SpA EV's is a benchmark to allow:

+1 80 SpA Decidueye Bloom Doom (195 BP) vs. 252 HP / 100 SpD Eviolite Gligar: 280-331 (83.8 - 99.1%) -- 75% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

but EVs are highly customisable for whatever threats you want to deal with, since gligar isn't exactly going to be able to do much to a decidueye in the first place, just chose it as an example of something with decent spdef. HP ev's allow you to survive a knock off from Krook at full.

Sucker punch / Leaf Blade / HP Fire can be chosen depending on what you want to deal with, with leaf blade allowing you to deal with blissey, Hp fire allowing you to ohko scizor and sucker punch to deal with gengar / latias (need the +2 from normalium to ohko latias after rocks though, but can't kill you from full if you just spirit shackle instead with grassium).

Decidueye @ Fightinium Z
Ability: Long Reach
EVs: 32 HP / 224 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Low Sweep
- Spirit Shackle
- Tailwind
- Swords Dance

Acts like a double-dance decidueye, using tailwind and swords dance to boost up speed and attack respectively. Fightingium Z allows it to beat dark types like hydreigon and krookodile. Tailwind also allows decidueye to outspeed faster threats like infernape, starmie, and cobalion, while hitting them hard with it attacks. Also, Tailwind can support teammates like primarina that appreciate the speed boost.
