Ninetales' access to nasty plot and drought make this pokemon a formidable wallbreaker. Fire Blast is Ninetales' main attack and thanks to the power boost from drought it can two-shot almost all pokemon that don't resist fire in the tier. Energy ball allows Ninetales to deal with water or rock types such as Seismitoad, Vaporeon, and Gigalith that are common switchins to fire types. Energy ball is preferential to solar beam because Gigalith's sand stream invalidates solar beam in that matchup. Toxic helps to punish switch-ins like Mantine and Centiskorch that fire blast and energy ball struggle to deal with.
Ninetales' excellent speed tier allows it to outspeed other fast pokemon like Sigilyph, Silvally, and non-scarf Drapion. This base 100 speed makes Ninetales a reliable revenge killer as well as an effective sweeper. However, Ninetales can be threatened by faster pokemon, most notably Barraskewda and Intelion as well as common scarf options like Gardevoir, Passimian, and Drapion. Pairing Ninetales with pokemon like Seismitoad or Vaporeon that have water absorb or flying types/levitate mons such as Bronzong and Xatu helps check these faster threats.
