Hiya guys. I have dabbled with battling in the past, but having bought X and Y on 3DS, and after having tons of great battles with loads of people have decided to get my feet very wet. Here is a team that I have been using with moderate success, that I am hoping some of you can give me some help beefing up!!
The team came from me loving Greninja, Scizor and Rotom-W, so I decided to make this my core and added other mons that I thought fit well after a bit of research and testing. The idea is that I use a combination of Volt-Turn and SR to whittle down my opponents and then setup on a weakened team with Dragonite to finish them off. My second win condition can also be a Greninja sweep.
Greninja @ Expert Belt
Ability: Protean
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spe / 4 Atk
Naive Nature (+Spe, -SDef)
Hydro Pump/Surf
Dark Pulse
Ice Beam
U-Turn
Greninja is a rad ninja frog. I like him loads, and his ability is ridiculous. I sometimes use him as a lead, and often times as a late game sweeper to clean up my opposition. U-Turn makes him a great scout for my team, and he can force alot of switches. Due to my team being a Volt-Turn team, it is easy to get him in after a slow U-Turn or Volt Switch from Scizor or Rotom. I like his coverage, and often sweep weakened teams with him.
Scizor @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 44 Atk / 216 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
Bullet Punch
Defog
U-Turn
Roost
Scizor is an awesome robot bug man thing. I like robots even more than I like ninjas, so this guy had to go in the team. I originally had him choice banded, but found that he provided the team with some well needed utility in the form of defog. He is also great for punching evil fairies and revenge killing weakened pokemon. I sometimes lead with him as well. Defog has been incredibly useful for me to make sure that I don’t take buttloads of SR damage while my team Volt Switches and U-turns all over the place.
Rotom-W @ Chesto berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 244 HP / 216 Def / 44 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
Hydro Pump
Will-O-Wisp
Volt Switch
Rest
This guy makes me laugh out loud so much. Who ever thought of a ghost pokemon haunting a washing machine should be given an award... seriously. Rotom in my team does what all Rotoms do. Check Talonflames and other pesky physical threats. Burn stuff, absorb status, and make himself an all round nuisance. Nice slow Volt-Switches let me get key pokemon in unharmed. Rotom is such a dick.
Landorus-Therian (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
Stealth Rock
Earthquake
Stone Edge
U-turn
So my team tends to cause a lot of switches and I decided I needed to get my rocks off, my Stealth Rocks that is, to maximize the chip I can get off while the opponent switches. Lando-T is my Stealth Rocks Setter, and also my pokemon for checking Excadrill, which I was running into a lot taking fat dumps on my Rotom. He is also great for killing off stupid birds, and dirty steel types. I mostly lead with this chap in order to get rocks up as soon as possible. I gave him max HP so that he has plenty of opportunites to get stealth rocks on the field as Scizor sometimes needs to defog and I lose my rocks as well as opponents hazards.
Tangrowth @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SDef / 4 SAtk
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spe)
Giga Drain
Earthquake
Hidden Power Fire
Knock Off
I decided that I wanted something that could switch into Rotom, as I was struggling to get through him, due to him being such a dick. I tried a couple of things, but really fell in love with AV Tangrowth. I find him a great switch in on loads of stuff, and if I am having trouble predicting what they will bring in to counter him, I just use Knock Off to see what I can find. He poops on Rotom. I decided to give him hidden Power Fire to deal with Ferrothorn and Scizor switchins. Has been working reasonably well so far. I kinda really like him now, and I think he could be swapped for something better, but am not sure.
Dragonite @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 24 HP / 252 Atk / 232 Spe
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)Dragon Dance
Dragon Claw
Extremespeed
Roost/Fire Punch
So my final pokemon took a lot of work to think of. I wanted a setup sweeper that can take advantage of all the crippling that my other pokemon do, and can use a switch advantage to get in and start setting up. I basically just flicked through the pokemon that are left and picked the one that I thought looked cool. And Dragonite has been decently in this slot. I have been chopping and changing between Fire Punch and Roost. While I have fire coverage in the form of HP Fire on Tangrowth, I found at times that it wasn’t really enough. But I really like Roost on Dragonite. I was thinking of maybe dropping Weakness Policy for a Lum Berry. I generally only use this dude as a late game sweeper or to revenge kill with Extremespeed.
My thoughts on this team:
Bear in mind with changes that I am playing on console, so am limited in some of the things I can get. I can “attain” pokemon via nefarious methods though so can pretty much get most things.
I have thought that my team could do with some better fire coverage, and though of replacing Lando with Heatran. It does remove some of the utility I was getting out of Lando-T intimidating and U-turning into Dragonite to get a free Dragon Dance really easily. I really like the Volt-Turn strat and would like that to be as intact as possible.
AV Conkeldurr can be a pain as well. I basically have to Knock Off his AV with Tangrowth before I can really do much to him. I was thinking that Maybe I could use SD Talonflame instead of Dragonite… But I really really hate that stupid bird and would love to not use it if at all possible. The other Idea that I had was to use mega pinsir, and change my Scizor’s item from Scizorite to Leftovers.
I also thought that I could kick Tangrowth and Landorus to the curb and add Celebi to the team. He would provide rocks, grass coverage, and even heal bell to remove status from some of my pokes. I could then put in an AV Conk of my own or some other bulky annoying poke.
Looking forwards to anyone’s feedback, and thanks in advance.
