PU Leader
[OVERVIEW]
On account of its incredibly high Speed, which is only further supplemented by Speed Boost, Ninjask is the fastest Pokemon in PU. This, alongside its access to U-turn, lets Ninjask serve as both a capable revenge killer and an effective offensive pivot. Swords Dance adds to the list of roles that Ninjask can fulfill, turning it into a sweeper that can be annoying to play around thanks to Speed Boost. However, despite having fairly powerful STAB moves, Ninjask is not particularly strong before setting up due to its mediocre Attack. Ninjask's bad bulk and weakness-laden typing tend to limit its setup opportunities to forced switches, and it is vulnerable to priority users like Sneasel and Lycanroc. Finally, Ninjask faces tight competition from Scyther, which, while slower, is stronger and usually sets up with greater ease due to its better bulk.
[SET]
name: Swords Dance
move 1: Swords Dance
move 2: Protect
move 3: U-turn
move 4: Dual Wingbeat / Acrobatics
item: Heavy-Duty Boots / No Item
ability: Speed Boost
nature: Adamant
evs: 152 HP / 252 Atk / 104 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]
Protect lets Ninjask scout for potential coverage moves or Choice Scarf users and gives it a free Speed boost. Dual Wingbeat lets Ninjask run Heavy-Duty Boots, thus making pivoting easier and safer. It's worth noting that the move hits foes twice, though, making Ninjask more susceptible to contact abilities and items like Iron Barbs and Rocky Helmet. Acrobatics is a stronger and more accurate alternative, notably always OHKOing offensive Charizard and Galarian Articuno at +2. However, opting for Acrobatics essentially requires Ninjask not to hold any item, leaving it crippled by Stealth Rock. 104 Speed EVs allow Ninjask to naturally outrun Ribombee, the fastest common Pokemon in the tier.
Ninjask fits best on offensive teams, which aren't held back too much by its defensive shortcomings and take advantage of the momentum it generates. Ninjask lacks the coverage and strength needed to deal with bulky Ground-, Rock-, and Steel-types like Quagsire, Regirock, and Aggron, so it should be paired with wallbreakers like Jellicent and Gallade. In return, Ninjask provides these Pokemon with much appreciated pivoting support, and it offensively checks threats looking to revenge kill them, such as Scrafty and Ribombee. Spikes support from the likes of Garbodor and Qwilfish gives Ninjask an easier time wearing down its grounded switch-ins and securing a sweep. Garbodor can also weaken softer checks to Ninjask, such as Ferroseed, if it runs Corrosive Gas. If Ninjask chooses not to hold Heavy-Duty Boots, then pairing it with entry hazard removal from the likes of Comfey and Eldegoss is a must to keep it as healthy as possible.
