[OVERVIEW]

Noivern is a great utility Pokemon for many teams since, it can fit as an defensive Defogger or offensive wallbreaker. Its excellent Speed tier allows it to outspeed common threats like Lycanroc-D, Infernape, and Non-Choice Scarf Mienshao. Noivern's typing allows it to resist and check Grass- and Fighting-types like Tsareena, Vileplume, and Lucario. As a Defogger, Noivern can pressure offensive hazard setters or ones with low Special Defense like Krookodile and Rhyperior allowing its teammates to pick them off after they are weaken, but it struggles against bulkier hazard setters like Copperajah, Registeel, and Diancie. Choice Specs Noivern with Tera Normal provides it with a powerful Boomburst, allowing it to break through its checks like Sylveon and Assault Vest Reuniclus. Noivern also excels as a pivot, providing free switches for wallbreakers while forming a VoltTurn core with Magnezone, Flygon, and Mienshao. However, non-Choice Specs Noivern, due to its average Special Attack stat, is very easily walled by specially defensive tanks like Magnezone, Diancie, and Assault Vest Gallade. It can also be used as setup fodder for sweepers like Calm Mind Reuniclus and Sylveon. Noivern's reliance on Heavy-Duty Boots hurts it's defensive utility, as it can't switch as freely into Knock Off users that it would be normally like Tsareena, Infernape, and Gallade without the risk of losing its Heavy-Duty Boots, leaving it open to be chipped via hazard damage.

Draco Meteor is preferred to hit a wide array of Pokemon neutrally, but Hurricane allows Noivern to hit Figting- and Grass-types like Mienshao, Gallade, and Vileplume. U-turn allows Noivern to maintain momentum and reset its Special Attack drop from Draco Meteor. Alternatively, Flamethrower hits Steel-types like Copperajah, Magnezone, and Klefki. Taunt is another option for Noivern, allowing it to cripple defensive walls like Slowbro and Vileplume, prevent entry hazard from being set up by Copperajah, Swampert, and Krookodile, and stops bulky set up sweepers in their tracks like Registeel and Mew. Frisk provides Noivern with more utility in the ability to scout out items from opposing teams. Tera Steel gives Noivern a resistance to Fairy-type attacks, while being able to check wallbreakers like Porygon-Z, Lycanroc-D, and Munkidori in a pinch. Tera Fairy allows Noivern to check Dark- and Dragon-types like Krookodile, Dragalge, and opposing Noivern while still checking Fighting-types like Mienshao and Gallade.

Wallbreakers like Basculegion, Chandelure, and Lycanroc-D appreciate the free entry provided by U-turn and they can also check common switch-ins to Noivern like Alolan Muk, Registeel, and Assault Vest Gallade. Noivern can pair with pivots like Mienshao, Magnezone, and Flygon, as they can create a VoltTurn core that can pressure opponents and keep up momentum against switch-ins. Noivern is also great at luring in Fairy-types like Sylveon, Florges, and Diancie allowing it to pivot out; so it can bring in its teammates like Copperajah, Munkidori, and Magnezone to check them. Noivern best pairs with Fighting- and Ground-types like Mienshao, Rhyperior, and Swampert to handle the bulky Steel-types such as Copperajah, Magnezone, and Klefki. Wallbreakers like Krookodile, Incineroar, and Gallade similarly appreciate Noivern's U-turn providing them a free entry and they can check the aforementioned Steel-types. Grass-types like Tsareena, Brute Bonnet, and Vileplume can be great partners for Noivern, since they can check Rock-types such as Lycanroc-D, Rhyperior, and Diancie.

Boomburst hits most of the tier neutrally, including Fairy-types, making it Noivern's go-to move on switches. Flamethrower allows Noivern to hit Steel-types like Copperajah, Klefki, and Magnezone. Alternatively, Hurricane allows it to hit Grass- and Fighting-types like Tsareena, Infernape, and Mienshao. Focus Blast is mostly used for hitting Diancie neutrally, while also destroying Steel-types like Copperajah and Registeel. Noivern last move is most commonly Switcheroo allowing it to cripple special walls like Alolan Muk, Registeel, and Diancie that would usually switch into Noivern STAB attacks. Although, U-turn can be used over Switcheroo allowing Noivern to take advantage of forced switches. Tera Normal gives Boomburst a powerful boost, allowing it to 2HKO foes like Assault Vest Gallade and Alolan Muk after Stealth Rock. Tera Steel can be used over Tera Normal, since it's better defensively and allows Noivern to take a Fairy-, Ice-, or Dragon-type attack in a pinch like Florges's Moonblast, Mienshao's Ice Spinner, and Dragalge's Draco Meteor.

Noivern appreciates slow pivots like Magnezone and Swampert as they can bring Noivern in safely against a Grass-type. Noivern's longevity is hurt immensely by Stealth Rock, so it best pairs with entry hazard removers such as Tsareena, Brambleghast, and Talonflame to remove entry hazards. Choice Specs Noivern appreciates entry hazard support from Copperajah, Diancie, and Klefki, as it can help to achieve certain 2HKOes on Pokemon like Alolan Muk. Fire- and Fighting-types like Incineroar, Infernape, and Gallade can be great partners for Noivern, since they can handle Steel-types like Registeel, Magnezone, and Klefki that it forces in; it can also help them come in more safely with U-turn. Choice Scarf users like Mienshao, Flygon, and Krookodile can outspeed and destroy Noivern with their coverage moves. Thus it pairs with physical walls like Slowbro, Vileplume, and Swampert to handle them. Noivern best pairs with Steel- and Poison-types like Copperajah, Assault Vest Magnezone, and Munkidori; since, they can check Fairy-types like Sylveon, Diancie, and Florges.

Super Fang can be used on utility sets allowing Noivern to cripple its common switch-ins like Assault Vest Gallade, Alolan Muk, and Reuniclus. Although, it does struggle to fit on a utility set. Tera Fire gives Noivern a boost to Flamethrower, while having the resistance to Ice-, Fairy-, and Steel-type attacks. Tera Blast Steel allows Noivern to hit Fairy-types like Sylveon, Florges, and Diancie, but, then it's forced to give up its Tera and completely struggles against Copperajah and Magnezone. Moonlight can be used over Roost to not lose Noivern's Flying-type, but this usually never does anything meaningful. At times, losing Noivern's Flying-type can even help for instance versus Life Orb Mienshao.

Checks and Counters
====

**Fairy-types**: Sylveon, Florges, and Klefki can switch in on a predicted Dragon-type attack from Choice Specs Noivern and KO it back with their STAB Fairy-type attacks. But, Tera Normal Boomburst 2HKOes the former two. Klefki can also cripple Noivern with Thunder Wave, but it has to fear Flamethrower. Diancie is also notable for completely walls Noivern letting it repeatedly setup Stealth Rock and threatens Noivern out with its duel STAB attacks. Switcheroo from Choice Specs Noivern cripples it quite a bit, though.

**Steel-types**: Copperajah, Magnezone, and Registeel can resist Noivern's Draco Meteor and Boomburst However, none of them want to switch into Flamethrower or Focus Blast.

**Rock-types**: Rhyperior, and Diancie can destroy Noivern with their STAB Rock-type attacks and setup Stealth Rock, while Lycanroc-D can revenge killed Noivern with Accelerock after its been weakened a bit. However, both Rhyperior and Lycanroc-D don't want to switch into Choice Specs Noivern Draco Meteor.

**Special Walls**: Alolan Muk, Reuniclus, And Assault Vest Magnezone can tank Noivern STAB attacks. However, they can get worn down by repeatly switching into its attacks or getting chip down by entry hazards.
