UU Noivern

:ss/noivern:

[OVERVIEW]

Noivern is notable for outspeeding the entire UU metagame, making it a naturally fast teammate without the use of a Choice Scarf. Its great STAB combination also makes Noivern a solid revenge killer. Furthermore, its defensive typing, access to reliable recovery, and decent bulk allow Noivern to reliably check threats like Keldeo and Tapu Bulu. Unfortunately, Noivern finds itself competing for a spot on teams with the tier's other Dragon / Flying type, Salamence. Salamence is much stronger and bulkier, which makes it a better wallbreaker and allows it to fulfill Noivern's defensive niche much more effectively than Noivern itself. However, Noivern's higher Speed, which is especially useful when dealing with massive threats like Keldeo, still makes it a solid option and a worthwhile pick over Salamence.

[SET]

name: Offensive
move 1: Draco Meteor / Hurricane / U-turn
move 2: Flamethrower
move 3: Hurricane
move 4: Roost
item: Heavy-Duty Boots
ability: Infiltrator
nature: Timid
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Hurricane hits a wider amount of range than Draco Meteor, such as Amoonguss, Tangrowth, and Conkeldurr, and allows Noivern to pressure Fairy types, like Togekiss and Azumarill. However, Draco Meteor is more reliable and spammable than Hurricane, allows Noivern to OHKO Salamence and potentially OHKO Kommo-o, and is useful for chipping Pokemon that would otherwise check Noivern, like Rhyperior, Rotom-H, and Rotom-W. Flamethrower prevents Noivern from being completely walled by Steel-types, such as Scizor, Jirachi, and Celesteela. U-turn is an option over either STAB move that allows Noivern to pivot out of would-be checks and bring in teammates more safely. Noivern does prefer to run both STAB moves, however. Roost is necessary for longevity. Infiltrator is used to bypass Substitute, which is crucial for allowing Noivern to take out Pokemon that rely on it, like Raikou and Aegislash. It also bypasses dual screens.

Noivern is best used on teams that otherwise lack naturally fast Pokemon or Choice Scarf users. Electric-types like Raikou and Rotom-W are particularly good partners for Noivern, forming a fast VoltTurn core. Raikou can lure in Rhyperior and weaken it with Toxic or Scald, as well as pressure Pokemon like Primarina and Azumarill for Noivern. Rotom-W can check Mamoswine and deals with Ground-types like Krookodile and Rhyperior better than Noivern can. Grass-types, such as Tangrowth and Amoonguss, are able to come in on Pokemon like Thundurus-T and Lycanroc-D that threaten Noivern. Scizor makes Noivern's matchup against Celesteela easier by removing its Leftovers with Knock Off. Noivern, meanwhile, can lure special walls like Chansey for Scizor. Noivern and Scizor's shared access to U-turn also allows them to form a pivoting core. Wallbreakers such as Lycanroc-D, Mamoswine, and Crawdaunt help make up for Noivern's lackluster offensive presence. These Pokemon can also remove special walls that Noivern otherwise struggles with, such as Chansey, Primarina, and Milotic. Mew and Krookodile can set up entry hazards, which allow Noivern to more easily KO foes.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]

Super Fang can be used to weaken bulky walls like Chansey and Celesteela and make it easier for its teammates to revenge kill them while also pairing nicely with Taunt, but it's not very useful otherwise. Boomburst is another option for an attacking move, having an incredibly high Base Power without the drawbacks of Draco Meteor or Hurricane, but it is weaker and does not hit anything super effectively. Defog is a solid option, as Noivern is the fastest Defogger in the metagame and also checks common entry hazard setters like Nidoqueen and Kommo-o. However, Noivern struggles to fit Defog into its moveset, and if you want to run a Dragon / Flying Defogger, Salamence is a better option. Choice Specs is an option to make Noivern hit harder, but the lack of Heavy-Duty Boots makes Noivern incredibly susceptible to Stealth Rock, and thus it remains a very fringe option.

Checks and Counters
===================
**Special Walls:** Chansey brushes off all of Noivern's moves and forces it to switch out, though it does have to worry about Taunt. Rhyperior can also easily sponge Noivern's attacks except for Draco Meteor. Finally, Celesteela is only 4HKOed by Noivern's Flamethrower, allowing it to serve as an occasional check.

**Priority Users:** Pokémon like Mamoswine and Lycanroc-D can use their super effective priority moves to bypass Noivern's blistering Speed and easily take it out.

**Knock Off Users:** Krookodile, Scizor, Conkeldurr, and other common Knock Off users can remove Noivern's Heavy-Duty Boots, which severely hampers its longevity and makes it unable to perform its role as a pivot as well as it could.

**Fairy-types:** Hatterene, Primarina, and Azumarill can take at least one hit and hit Noivern hard with their super effective STAB moves. However, these Pokemon generally don't like having to take more than one Hurricane.

[OVERVIEW]
  • Noivern hold the prestigious distinction of having the second-highest base Speed of all viable Pokémon in the tier, only behind Zeraora. you made ribombee cry :(
  • This high Speed makes Noivern a great choice for an offensive pivot, as well as providing speed control it does! there's definitely more to it though, like its good coverage and uturn in addition to reliable recovery and its decent bulk letting it check annoying stuff like keldeo. you can flesh this out a bit i think
  • Unfortunately, Noivern finds itself completely outclassed by the tier's other Dragon/Flying type, Salamence. i wouldn't say completely, largely outclassed for sure but if it was completely outclassed you wouldn't be writing it! you go into this in your next point about its bulk and power but i think a wording change would be good here
  • Salamence is much stronger and bulkier than Noivern, which allows it to fulfill Noivern's other potential niches much more effectively than Noivern itself.
  • This forces Noivern to be run solely as an offensive pivot, which means that it is viable on only a handful of teams. specify what kind of teams it's best on, volt turn offense being the main thing it's great at. it's also pretty nice as a speed control option on teams that use non-zeraora electrics such as toxtricity.

evs: 252 Spa / 4 Spd / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

  • Draco Meteor and Hurricane each provide a STAB attack. Hurricane hits a wider amount of targets include some of em here, like amoonguss and tangrowth!, while Draco Meteor has more power also ohkos salamence.
  • Flamethrower prevents Noivern from being completely walled by Steel types, such as Scizor, Bisharp, and Celesteela.
  • U-turn allows Noivern to pivot out from would-be checks and bring in teammates more safely. Hurricane can go in this slot if you picked Draco Meteor in the first slot and want to go more offensive. Defog is useful for removing hazards quickly. include a section on taunt here instead - I know this probably seems weird, but basically if you're using defog or 3 attacks, you should really just use salamence unless you absolutely, positively NEED to outspeed Terrakion. uturn and taunt are two things noiv has going for it that mence doesn't! if you're unsure about what taunt allows it to do, mention that it's great for breaking down Pokemon like Chansey, Wish Jirachi, etc. and should be used alongside hurricane
  • Roost provides recovery, which is crucial for a frail Pokemon like Noivern.
  • include a line on why you use infiltrator here, mainly bypassing screens and also beating up sub users, most notably Kyurem

Paragraph 2
  • Noivern is best used on teams with a strong focus on pivoting.
  • Zeraora is a particularly good partner for Noivern, forming an extremely fast VoltTurn core. Noivern also provides a quadruple Grass resistance and a Ground immunity for Zeraora maybe some more specific examples here, noiv being able to threaten to ko amoonguss and tangrowth and in particular being a super hard bulu check is really nice and it forces 50/50s with scarf krook even though it's not great vs some other grounds
  • Victini also forms a U-turn pivot core with Noivern while also being able to deal with Ice types for it the only ice in the tier is mamo which tini is not all that good against, if anything you can mention that victini weakens and bullies a shared check in slowking and also stuff like rhyperior. noiv in return handles annoyances like zarude and keldeo.
  • Bulky Water types and Grass types, such as Slowking, Tangrowth, and Primarina, are able to come in on Pokemon like Kyurem none of these pokemon beat kyurem and kyurem doesn't beat noivern to begin with, maybe mention tang beating zera since it's the most relevant faster-than-noiv mon? and Terrakion that threaten Noivern. The former two also appreciate Noivern's pivoting as a method of activating Regenerator. cm prim also really loves that noiv brings it in for free on stuff it can set up on like rhyp and slowking, specs likes the free entry too
  • include examples of wallbreakers noivern supports! things that can threaten slowking for it like toxtricity, or fighting types that bully chansey. what you've got is good, you could just use a bit more i think

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
  • Super Fang can be used to cut down the HP of bulky walls like? and make it easier for its teammates to revenge kill them, but it's not very useful otherwise.
  • Boomburst is another option for an attacking move, having an incredibly high base power without the drawbacks of Draco Meteor or Hurricane, but does not hit anything super effectively.
  • Choice Specs is an option to make Noivern hit harder, but the lack of Heavy-Duty Boots makes Noivern incredibly susceptible to Stealth Rock, and thus remains a very fringe option.

Checks and Counters
===================

Priority Users: Pokémon like Mamoswine and Lycanroc-Dusk can use their super-effective priority moves to easily take out Noivern.

Knock Off Users: Krookodile, Scizor, Zeraora, and other common Knock Off users can remove Noivern's Heavy-Duty Boots, leaving it susceptible to Stealth Rock damage for the rest of the match. totally get what you're going for here, just gotta make it more clear why this is so bad - its role as a pivot is so much harder if rocks are constantly cutting into it and forcing it to roost

Chansey: Chansey laughs off all of Noivern's hard-hitting attacking moves and forces it to switch out must be wary of taunt!.

Fairy types: Hatterene, Primarina, and Azumarill can come in on a Draco Meteor and scare Noivern off with their Fairy type moves mention that they don't rlly like taking more than 1 hurricane if they can help it.

[OVERVIEW]

Noivern holds the prestigious distinction of having the second-highest base Speed of all viable Pokémon in the tier, only behind Ribombee. Ribombee isn't great so it honestly isn't worth mentioning. I'd just say something along the lines of how it naturally outspeeds every relevant threat in the tier. This high Speed, along with its good coverage, access to U-Turn and Taunt, reliable recovery, and decent bulk, makes Noivern a great choice for an offensive pivot, as well a method of providing speed control. This is compressing so much into one line. The only thing I would follow up on here is that its great STAB combo + Flamethrower makes it an excellent revenge killer. Furthermore, its good Speed, as well as its defensive typing, allow Noivern to reliably check threats like Keldeo and Tapu Bulu. Instead of bringing up its Speed tier again, you can mention its reliable recovery + bulk here. Unfortunately, Noivern finds itself competing for a spot on teams with the tier's other Dragon/Flying type, Salamence. Salamence is much stronger and bulkier than Noivern, which makes it a better wallbreaker option and allows it to fulfill Noivern's defensive capabilities other potential niches much more effectively than Noivern itself. The only reasons to run Noivern over Salamence are the former's access to U-Turn and Taunt, forcing it to be run solely as an offensive/utility pivot. This line needs to be altered and refer to the greater Speed tier when it comes to dealing with Keldeo.

Draco Meteor and Hurricane each provide a STAB attack. Hurricane hits a wider amount of targets, such as Amoonguss, Tangrowth, and Conkeldurr, while Draco Meteor allows Noivern to OHKO Salamence, as well as potentially OHKOing Kommo-o. I'd split these moves into their own separate sentences. Mention how Hurricane is its best means of pressuring Fairy-types like Azumarill and Togekiss. Mention how Draco Meteor is a more reliable and spammable move than Hurricane when it comes to revenge killing foes like Kommo-o and Keldeo. It's also worth stating it severely chips its checks like Rhyperior and the Rotom formes. Flamethrower prevents Noivern from being completely walled by Steel types, such as Scizor, Jirachi, and Celesteela. U-turn allows Noivern to pivot out from would-be checks and bring in teammates more safely. You need to add a line that states if using U-turn both STAB options are viable and you pick one depending on the qualities you value more from the stuff I mentioned before, but mention it would prefer to run both STABs. Taunt allows Noivern to break through special walls like Chansey and Wish Jirachi that otherwise stop it in its tracks. You don't really break through Chansey well, you just annoy it. Roost provides recovery, which is necessary for providing longevity. Infiltrator is used for bypassing Substitute, which is crucial for allowing Noivern to take out Pokemon that rely on Substitute like SubCM Raikous. You can just say Raikou. I'd also mention Aegislash here as it does annoy SubToxic Aegi with how much health it will lose in the process. It also bypasses Screens.

Noivern is best used on teams with a strong focus on pivoting. This isn't the case, you value Noivern on teams that want the Speed control. Raikou is a particularly good partner for Noivern, forming a fast VoltTurn core. Noivern also provides a quadruple Grass resistance and a Ground immunity for Raikou. Noivern doesn't really pivot into most of the tier's Ground-types except for Seismitoad, I'd just focus on how Raikou can lure in and weaken Rhyperior with Scald/Toxic instead + pressures the likes of Primarina and Azumarill. Grass-types especially are lured in by Raikou, allowing Noivern to easily switch in. Raikou doesn't lure in Grass-types, it invites them in. Bulky Water-types and Grass-types, such as Slowking, Tangrowth, and Primarina, are able to come in on Pokemon like Thundurus-T and Lycanroc-D that threaten Noivern. These are odd examples because only Tangrowth deals with Thundy and Lycanroc-D. Prima is checking neither mon. The former two also appreciate Noivern's pivoting as a method of activating Regenerator, while the latter, if running a Calm Mind set, appreciates Noivern bringing it in against Pokemon like Slowking and Rhyperior that it can set up on. Scizor is yet another Pokemon that forms a pivoting core with Noivern. Don't focus on the whole pivoting core idea, just mention why Scizor is a good partner then you can go into detail about what it can bring Noivern in on if you have relevant examples. It also makes Noivern's matchup with Celesteela a little easier by knocking off its Leftovers. Noivern, meanwhile, can lure out special walls like Chansey for Scizor. Frail wallbreakers, such as Lycanroc-D, Mamoswine, and Crawdaunt, all appreciate Noivern's super-fast U-Turn, as it can bring them onto the field relatively safely. Why is this good for Noivern? Pokemon like Mew and Krookodile can up set set up entry hazards, which allow Noivern to KO kills things a little easier by causing chip damage. I'd give a mention to Washtom as a check to Mamoswine + a more reliable pivot into other Ground-types like Krook and Rhyp.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]

Super Fang can be used to cut down the HP of bulky walls like Chansey and Celesteela and make it easier for its teammates to revenge kill them, while also pairing nicely with Taunt, but it's not very useful otherwise. Boomburst is another option for an attacking move, having an incredibly high base power without the drawbacks of Draco Meteor or Hurricane, but it is weaker and does not hit anything super effectively. Defog is a solid option, as Noivern can get it off faster than any other Pokemon in the metagame, and it also checks common hazard setters like Mew and Kommo-o. It doesn't really check Mew, especially with the threat of Ice Beam However, Noivern struggles to fit Defog into its moveset, and if you want to run a Dragon/Flying offensive defogger, you're much better off using Salamence. Choice Specs is an option to make Noivern hit harder, but the lack of Heavy-Duty Boots makes Noivern incredibly susceptible to Stealth Rock, and thus remains a very fringe option.

Checks and Counters
===================
**Special Walls:** Chansey brushes off all of Noivern's hard-hitting attacking moves and forces it to switch out, though it does have to worry about Taunt. Rhyperior can also easily sponge Noivern's attacks if the latter is not running Draco Meteor. Finally, Celesteela is only 4HKOed by Noivern's Flamethrower, allowing it to serve as an occasional check.

**Priority Users:** Pokémon like Mamoswine and Lycanroc-D can use their super-effective priority moves to bypass Noivern's blistering Speed and easily take it out.

**Knock Off Users:** Krookodile, Scizor, Conkeldurr, and other common Knock Off users can remove Noivern's Heavy-Duty Boots. Without Heavy-Duty Boots, Noivern will take a quarter of its health very time it comes in if Stealth Rock is on the field, which severely hampersing its lonegtivity longevity and making it unable to perform its role as a pivot as well as it can.

**Fairy-types:** Hatterene, Primarina, and Azumarill can take at least one hit and hurt Noivern hard with their super-effective STAB moves. However, these Pokemon generally don't like having to take more than one Hurricane.

Defog is a solid option, as Noivern can get it off faster than any other Pokemon is the fastest Defogger in the metagame, and it also checks common hazard setters like Nidoqueen and Kommo-o. However, Noivern struggles to fit Defog into its moveset, and if you want to run a Dragon/Flying spaces between / offensive defogger you're much better off using Salamence Defogger, Salamence is a better option. Choice Specs is an option to make Noivern hit harder, but the lack of Heavy-Duty Boots makes Noivern incredibly susceptible to Stealth Rock, and thus remains a very fringe option.

**Special Walls:** Chansey brushes off all of Noivern's hard-hitting attacking moves and forces it to switch out, though it does have to worry about Taunt. Rhyperior can also easily sponge Noivern's attacks if the latter is not running except for Draco Meteor. Finally, Celesteela is only 4HKOed by Noivern's Flamethrower, allowing it to serve as an occasional check.

**Priority Users:** Pokémon like Mamoswine and Lycanroc-D can use their super-(remove hyphen)effective priority moves to bypass Noivern's blistering Speed and easily take it out.

**Knock Off Users:** Krookodile, Scizor, Conkeldurr, and other common Knock Off users can remove Noivern's Heavy-Duty Boots, which severely hampers its longevity and makes it unable to perform its role as a pivot as well as it can could.

**Fairy-types:** Hatterene, Primarina, and Azumarill can take at least one hit and hurt hit Noivern hard with their super-(remove hyphen)effective STAB moves. However, these Pokemon generally don't like having to take more than one Hurricane.

Furthermore, its defensive typing, access to reliable recovery, and decent bulk allow Noivern to reliably check threats like Keldeo and Tapu Bulu. Unfortunately, Noivern finds itself competing for a spot on teams with the tier's other Dragon/Flying add spaces between the / type, Salamence. Salamence is much stronger and bulkier than Noivern, which makes it a better wallbreaker option and allows it to fulfill Noivern's defensive capabilities niche much more effectively than Noivern itself. Hurricane hits a wider wider than what? draco? if so, say that amount of targets, such as Amoonguss, Tangrowth, and Conkeldurr, and allows Noivern to pressure Fairy types like Togekiss and Azumarill. For revenge killing, However, Draco Meteor is more reliable and spammable than Hurricane. It and allows Noivern to OHKO Salamence and potentially OHKO Kommo-o, and is also useful for chipping mons Pokemon that would otherwise check Noivern, like Rhyperior, Rotom-H, and Rotom-W. Flamethrower prevents Noivern from being completely walled by Steel(add hyphen)types, such as Scizor, Jirachi, and Celesteela. U-turn allows Noivern to pivot out from of would-be checks and bring in teammates more safely. It also bypasses Screens dual screens.

Noivern is best used on teams that otherwise lack a good form of Speed control naturally fast Pokémon or Choice Scarf users.
