np: UU - Rain Drops Keep Falling on my Head

Status
Not open for further replies.
You're still assuming, however, that Raichu starts at +2 and that Venusaur and Chansey have been weakened. Chansey can use Toxic and stall with Protect, Venusaur can Roar, Rotom can burn and switch around to abuse LO recoil + status damage.

I am assuming that lol. They switch in while I Nasty plot. Raichu doesn't outright beat Chansey 100% of the time, but your methods of stopping Raichu with Venusaur isn't THAT good. I mean roaring while I deal like 60-70% and, Rotom can't really work around it, because not many pokemon can switch into 2+ Raichu.

Here is how Raichu beats Chansey. Turn 1:
Raichu uses Nasty plot, Chansey Switches in.
Raichu uses Focus Blast *assuming it hits* Chansey Toxics.
Raichu now has the advantage. If Chansey has Softboiled, then proceed to 2HKO with Focus Blast. If she DOESN'T, and tries to stall out with Protect, Nasty plot again.

The plan goes to pieces if Raichu misses with Focus Blast. I don't know. Packing a heal beller, or something that can outright beat Chansey is pretty nice.

The trick to Raichu against stall teams is to keep him until the end, where your opponents team has sufficiently been weakened. Raichu is very useful at breaking Regilotic, something a lot of pokemon cannot do.

Here's the log.

In short, Raikou can't touch this.

Pk my only problem with raichu is that he can't run encore tbolt nasty plot hp ice and focus blast. As you said encore is one of the few things that allow him to set up

I apologize if my statements came off as harsh or demeaning to you but I do not appreciate you talking to me like that.

In my opinion Raichu is a bad pokemon that I would not use on my teams. That is my opinion and there is no need to get defensive over what I said.

By the way I have been lurking and playing Shoddy since the Yanmega/Roserade era and before UU had its own subforum.

I will post about Electabuzz and Raichu once I get to a computer.

Well, considering in that situation your opponent nearly sacced Venusaur (Milotic could have taken Floatzel down much easier), Rotom was sleeping, Chansey had been weakened and you got an absolutely free setup, you can't really say Raichu takes stall out by itself. Also, what did Raichu do that pokés like Toxicroack couldn't have done better? It OHKOes Rotom, Lix, does much more damage to Chansey and couldn't give less of a damn to Milotic.

Ah... well to each one's own. Lurking=/=playing experience.
What exactly will you do with Electabuzz? Sure it's got better stats around the board, but what does it really do with Raichu? Mixed sweeping? It's to weak to pull it off. It's a little like Electivire from OU, it's base power moves are a bit too weak to do that. When it comes to pure special sweeping, why would I use that over Manetric who is a lot better?

Also, what did Raichu do that pokés like Toxicroack couldn't have done better? It OHKOes Rotom, Lix, does much more damage to Chansey and couldn't give less of a damn to Milotic.
Special Toxicroak you mean? Well Toxicroak can't get by Registeel no better than Raichu. I'll give you that, he can switch into switch into Chansey and actually setup on it.

Apples to oranges. Also, does I always thought Toxicroak never opted for Focus Blast?
Assuming said moveset:
name: Nasty Plot
move 1: Nasty Plot
move 2: Vacuum Wave
move 3: Sludge Bomb
move 4: Dark Pulse / Hidden Power Ice / Focus Blast

Your going to have trouble with certain pokemon either way.
(Lose Dark Pulse and Rotom has your way with you, Lose Focus Blast and Chansey/Registeel Wall you)

Anywho it's apples to oranges anyway. If I want to use an Electric pokemon that happens to deal with stall, I'll opt for Raichu. As a side note, would you guys say that Toxicroak's special set is better than his physical set?
(IMO it is)

Pk my only problem with raichu is that he can't run encore tbolt nasty plot hp ice and focus blast. As you said encore is one of the few things that allow him to set up

Ah, I wasn't clear. For Stall, a moveset of Focus Blast/Nasty plot/T-bolt/HP Ice is preffered.
Generally, you could run Encore/T-bolt/HP Ice/Nasty plot. You lose coverage, but Bolt beam isn't TOO bad.

PS: Franky himself has used Raichu for mild success.

Why are we talking about other electric-type sweepers when Raikou still exists????

If I had to replace Raikou with another electric type, well, I wouldn't. They are all too "weak" and/or slow. Raichu is good, but it is really to squishy and slow to even consider using as a Pokemon on an offensive team. It's also slower than Mismagius, Froslass, and Scyther which is bad. Same applies to Electabuzz and Manetric. They are too squishy and far too weak to start setting up or threatening anything.

I would just use NP Doom or Missy as a special sweeper. NP Doom is especially underrated.

I guess you missed the part where I said Ive been playing UU since Yanmega =/. But that is beside the point.

I don't see why people use the nasty plot set over SD. His Spc.Attack is much lower than his physical attack and he much higher base power moves.

The surprise factor doesn't really matter since they are both beaten by a good psychic attack. Except the physical set has Sucker Punch.

Or maybe run Focus Blast, NP, Dark Pulse and Sludge Bomb?

Excellent. You'll have trouble with Bulky Ground types, and Drapion can beat you. I'm not going to lie, Toxicroak is *better* but not by much. I mean the best Nasty plotter is hands down Missy. If I had to rank them, then I would go:

Missy>Houndoom>Toxicroak>Raichu

Why are we talking about other electric-type sweepers when Raikou still exists????
He's next on the chopping block. (Imagines Raikou in a prison suit, just about to the get the eletric chair)

If I had to replace Raikou with another electric type, well, I wouldn't. They are all too "weak" and/or slow. Raichu is good
:D

but it is really to squishy and slow to even consider using as a Pokemon on an offensive team. It's also slower than Mismagius, Froslass, and Scyther which is bad. Same applies to Electabuzz and Manetric. They are too squishy and far too weak to start setting up or threatening anything.
Well, I wouldn't call Raichu slow per say. He's pretty fast, but his conflicts with many other sweepers. Froslass is gooooone
but I'll give you that. Being outsped by Scyther and Mismagius is a bitch.
Electabuzz is trash, so we can discount him. Manetric however is equal to Scyther's speed, and risks forcing a speed which is pretty good.

I would just use NP Doom or Missy as a special sweeper. NP Doom is especially underrated.
Wait, you fault Raichu/Manetric on their frailty/frail yet mention Doom who's frail AND slower?

(of course I do realize he has 2 immunites)
He's still getting outsped by a good amount of pokemon, including Scyther. It's not much of problem with missy since it's immune to shadow ball but is weak to HP fighting?

I've even got damage calcs.
Standard Missy's HP Fighting on Houndoom: 54.1% - 64.4%
Standard Shadow Ball on Raichu: 51.5% - 61.1%
Standard Shadow Ball on Manetric: 60.6% - 71.6%

My main point is, Raichu and Manetric aren't utterly useless ESPECIALLY when you compare them to doom.
Doom is slower, almost as frail AND has a stealth rock weak. He's equally beaten by missy AND Scyther, and all three of them get hard owned by Duggy.

Two words: Sucker Punch. You CAN calc that vs 50% Scyther and full HP Missy or Dugtrio, but you will only find how brutal MixPlot Doom is even with minimal Atk investment.

Two words: Sucker Punch.

Wait... Mixdoom? Hmm, it's actually pretty lethal. (Sucker Punch OHKO's duggy)

But both Missy and Dugtrio can be assholes and sub. You run into a whole mindgame with those too. Still, that's actually pretty neat. (I love sucker Punch)

So you would say that a pure Nasty plotting Houndoom isn't special, but a Mixedplotter is? (Good to know)

Still, I would give Raichu a small chance at least. He CAN run a physical subpunch set (similar to Poliwrath) with encore, that's highly effective.

Manectric is a pretty good Raikou replacement. Good Speed, good Sp. Atk, learns Flamethrower/Overheat, and has Switcheroo. All of this leads to a pretty good Specs set. And because of Flamethrower/Overheat, it doesn't need to run HP Ice or HP Water, and so can run HP Grass.

60 base defense is horrid to someone as pursuit-able as Mismagius.

You do realize that Mismagius is a top tier threat right? Being able to beat the number one special wall in the tier is no joke. Seriously, do you know what are you talking about?

I expect to see people nominate Missy but the end of the next tier shift.
(end terrible joke)

Seriously though, she's a special threat that this tier can handle, and is healthy for the metagame.

Exactly.

I understand she is a large offensive threat, and IMO is arguably the best special sweeper in the tier when Raikou is gone. I've used her NP set extensively but I found that while she got the kill she ended up dieing by a speedy pursuit. SubCM greatly fixes this problem but since the discussion was on Nasty Plot Missy my comment was based on that.

60 base HP is very good for Pain Split sets vs Chansey but 60 Defense was what turned me off using her more during the Honchkrow era. Looking back at the SubCM set, really only Absol has a chance to beat Missy behind a sub by using sucker punch and pursuit.

Missy is clearly a suspect.
No.NO.NO!NONONONONONO. MISSY IS NOT A SUSPECT IN ANY WAY OR FORM.

She clearly isn't. Missy has never been nominated has a 100% hard counter in Umbreon, and Registeel, and can be picked off by suckerpunching priority. (possibly)

Seriously, she is in no way a suspect.

Edit: Sneaky bastard. You totally tricked me on that one...

The special set is good. And it got popular due to rain being everywhere, but the physical set will always be Toxicroaks best and most deadly set. It's sad that no one expects Toxicroak to carry SD anymore.

Well that sucks. And yeah, I almost always assume Toxicroak is special.

I also wanted to comment on this. Recall that Houndoom's STABs are Fire and Dark and that Raichu's STAB is Electric. Now recall that some of the premier walls in the tier include Registeel and Slowbro. Houndoom's STABs allow it to nail each for an OHKO at +2, meanwhile the standard Raichu doesn't even carry a move that's super effective against Registeel. Houndoom's typing and immunities give it a very reasonable chance to switch in and setup, whereas Raichu just doesn't have such opportunities. It is also worth noting that Houndoom's base 110 SpA stat is significantly larger than Raichu's base 90. Speed aside, it's also worth noting that Houndoom's premier STAB in Fire Blast hits substantially harder than Thunderbolt. Houndoom's got a ton of things going for it over Raichu, despite being slower. This isn't even considering the possibility of Houndoom going mixed.

I also really don't think the tier needs a replacement for Raikou. Everything that combines to make Raikou so threatening is simply lacking in such abundance with every other Electric-type.

Specs Raichu Vs 156 Sp.Defense EVs (UU Tank set) 52.7% - 62.6% A 2KO assuming both hit.

Granted, that leaves you locked into an extremely inaccurate fighting move and there is a good chance you wont land 2 hits in a row, but it's something.

+2 LO Raichu Vs UU Tank Registeel 83.5% - 98.4% A chance of 1KO with stealth rock. But it is down to luck since Regi's EQ does 79%-94%

So If the Raichu user is reeealy lucky, he can switch in on a Thunder Wave, set up, and focus blast for a KO. And get revenged by priority after.
