Project NU Next Best Thing [Week 35: Gastrodon]

reserving crush claw defense dropper

:bw/braviary:
Braviary (M) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
A
bility: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Crush Claw
- Brave Bird
- Bulk Up
- Roost

This set capitalizes on the 50% chance of Crush Claw to drop the opponents defense, its secondary STAB here is Brave Bird. The defense drop coupled with Brae Bird makes this pokemon even more scary to deal with on the physically defensive aspect and after a defense drop it can pull out some serious damage. This can be helpful in situations when Braviary faces a bulky foes such as Vaporeon and Cresselia, as the defense drop not only helps Braviary to pressure them, but also Braviary's teammates.

Mixed Sheer Force + LO Attacker
:ss/braviary:
Braviary (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Crush Claw
- Hurricane / Air Slash
- Heat Wave
- Work Up

This set is probably ouclassed, but I thought I'd do something different. This is a mixed Sheer Force Life Orb attacker, but it's leaned towards the special side. Crush Claw is STAB and gets boosted by Sheer Force + Life Orb. Hurricane is strong STAB that's boosted by Sheer Force + LO. Air Slash could be used instead for better accuracy. Heat Wave is coverage and deals with mons like Escavilier and Bronzong. Work Up boosts your attacking stats. If you let Braviary get to +2 Special Attack, with the help of Stealth Rock and Spikes, Hurricane can become deadly to mons like Tyrantrum.

Braviary (M) @ Weakness Policy / @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Agility
- Bulk Up
- Dual Wingbeat / Brave Bird
- Close Combat

This set is suited for ho screens who want a reliable poltergeist check.Jolly nature outspace +2 shell smash blastoise, scarf heliolisk, flygon etc and it lives non-boosted super effective moves triggering weakness policy under screens.Braviary's typing +solid base 100 hp also let him eat every priority move.Dual wingbeat is prefered over brave bird for longevity after rocks and setup (+3 dw murders everything anyway) .Brave bird+boots is and option for bulkiers teams but outclassed by roost sets.

Substitute + Roost (Version 2)
:ss/braviary:
Braviary (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 HP / 120 SpD / 136 Spe
Careful Nature
- Substitute
- Roost
- Bulk Up
- Dual Wingbeat / Fly

Did I take Quite Quiet's set and make it 100000x times better, heck yeah! I originally had Heat Wave but someone reserved a goat Work Up set :c , but this set is pretty much using Fly or Dual Wingbeat so it's not worn down by recoil. I'd imagine Dual Wingbeat with Cresselia here and Fly is a tad usable once it goes. Substitute is a broken move so you might not end up doing damage with Fly, so just use DWB.

Phaze Braviary

Braviary (M) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 248 HP / 84 Def / 176 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Whirlwind
- Roost
- Close Combat
- Brave Bird

A set to take advantage of hazard stacking, Whirlwind will phaze out anything, and dish out hazard damage on your opponent, as well as eliminate a substitute that you may be struggling to break. Roost is a given for recovery, as are the Boots to allow Braviary to continue to switch in. The last 2 slots have been filled with Fight+Fly coverage which as a combination works really well on the common Bulk Up set. 176+ Speed outspeed max speed base 70s (like Decidueye), and the rest goes into bulk. Toxic could be an option on this set over one of the last two moves.

Defog Brav

:braviary:

Braviary @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 72 Def / 184 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Close Combat
- Defog
- Roost

I'm a hugeee fan of offensive defog Braviary. With this spread, you outspeed Jolly Decid and TTrum all while throwing off massive damage from a near unresisted CC+BB combo. The 72 Def gives this a ton of extra leeway to Defog in the tier all while checking a bunch of cool mons better, liek Golurk. I've found Brav to be a fantastic defogger, worthy of a slot on every team.

Congratulations to Zangoose5000 for winning the Braviary week with Mixed Sheer Force + Work Up :life_orb:

Cycle 21 - Lee
:ss/hitmonlee:
With Cresselia being banned, a number of Fighting-types like Passimian, Machamp, Sirfetch'd, and even Hitmonlee gets a lot better. Its ability, Unburden allows it to utilize items like Psychic Seed to double its speed. It is currently right behind Virizion in terms of speed and it outpaces competing Fighting-types like Toxicroak, Sirfetch'd, and Scrafty. The set listed below usually pairs with Indeedee-F and it utilities the +1 in SpD to give it a chance to setup Bulk Up and sweep. Submissions for Hitmonlee will end on Friday, March 19th. Have fun!
Hitmonlee (M) @ Psychic Seed
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 76 HP / 252 Atk / 180 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Bulk Up
- Close Combat
- Knock Off
- Stone Edge

:ss/Hitmonlee:
hail who? (Hitmonlee) (M) @ Normal Gem
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 148 HP / 252 Atk / 108 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Fake Out
- Close Combat
- Earthquake
- Knock Off
I originally build this for my BOTW against Ho3n/S1nn0h. Basically you preserve Hitmonlee as your win condition and get a 'free' speed boost to clean up if its checks are worn down enough. This set in particular is rather easy to get going as it doesn't require one turn of set up in order to get the speed boost but it obviously lacks the power of e.g. Curse sets. Coverage can be adjusted as well, Stone Edge is a good one or Poison Jab if you feel like it.

CB reckless w HJK

:dp/hitmonlee:
Hitmonlee (M) @ Choice Band
Ability: Reckless
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- High Jump Kick
- Knock Off
- Poison Jab

- Stone Edge

pretty straightforward set with high jump kick as its stab move and knock off as coverage to hit ghost-types. high jump kick has an insane power coupled with reckless and the boost given by choice band, therefore it can break with relative ease. poison jab is for fairies like sylveon, whereas stone edge lures in flying-types like talonflame.

Totally not stolen from the garbodors
:ss/hitmonlee:
Hitmonlee (M) @ Liechi Berry
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
IVs: 0 HP / 0 Def / 0 SpD
- Endure
- Reversal
- Knock Off
- Stone Edge / Poison Jab

This set aim is to get at 1 hp with endure to activate Liechi Berry and Unburden to get +1 attack and +2 speed but also getting a 200bp move in Reversal, letting Hitmonlee destroy everything that doesn't resist it while outspeeding every scarfers. Althought flawed this set is very fun and can be very dangerous in the right situation, as with 1 hp every priority move can kill you, bar first impression since you can block it with endure, but also if you're burn/poisoned you can't use reversal at it's full power.
