Project NU Next Best Thing [Week 35: Gastrodon]

Rapid Spin Hitmonlee

Hitmonlee @ Life Orb
Ability: Limber
EVs: 4 Def / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Close Combat
- Knock Off
- Stone Edge/Poison Jab

General idea
Here we have something different: an Hitmonlee with Rapid Spin and Limber.
Close Combat is the STAB and Knock Off is perfect as coverage move and utility thanks to the Atk stat of this pokèmon.
Stone Edge is for coverage although it has accuracy issues.
Poison Jab can be picked over Stone Edge to deal properly with Faeries and keep in mind that good 30% poison chance towards targets that resist Poison (because they usually don't have reliable recovery). Also, Close Combat scaries Steel-type pokemons that are immune to this move.
Rapid Spin is here for both utility and to boost our Spe at decent levels. Considering the amount of switches Hitmonlee forces, you can have a +1 Spe for free most of the time. Knock Off here makes a lot more sense because it takes away some annoying Ghosts (immune to Rapid Spin).

Two examples:
  • 252 Atk Life Orb Hitmonlee Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Golurk: 312-369 (97.8 - 115.6%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO
  • 252 Atk Life Orb Hitmonlee Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Decidueye: 330-390 (91.9 - 108.6%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO
Dhelmise is too bulky on the physical side to be OHKOed even without the Colbur Berry.

Item & ability
Unburden is a strong ability, but it has the issue to force Hitmonlee in, but low physical bulk 50/50 and Close Combat is a thing to consider.
Reckless was useless in this set.
Limber is the best choice here because it grants stability towards one of the most annoying status (the other one is the burn, but usually paralysis counters Unburden).

Life Orb is good here to boost the offensive presence considering that we are Jolly to boost our Spe at decent levels (300 Spe points) right from the start.

EVs spread
The EVs spread is a basic offensive one with a Jolly nature due to the lack of Unburden and because we are able to hit 300 Spe points, enough to outspeed and kill all the Rotom-forms (WoW is a thing) with 252+ Spe EVs even prior Rapid Spin.

252 Atk Life Orb Hitmonlee Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Rotom-Fan: 252-299 (104.5 - 124%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Life Orb Hitmonlee Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Rotom-Mow: 227-269 (94.1 - 111.6%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO (CC outdamages Poison Jab)
252 Atk Life Orb Hitmonlee Close Combat vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Rotom-Frost: 455-538 (188.7 - 223.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

=====> this set offers Rapid Spin support (although Hitmonlee is hit by all the hazards, it can be a decent 2nd Rapid Spinner) and a strong hitter.

Hitmonlee (M) @ Red Card
Ability: Limber
EVs: 116 HP / 236 Atk / 156 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Knock Off
- Rock Slide
- Bulk Up

The idea of this set is to live an attack, so the opposing Pokemon will be force out, and bring in a random Pokemon in, letting you get an Unburden boost. If the opponent is forced out to something that gets destroyed by Hitmonlee... to bad for them? Anyways, Close Combat is strong STAB. Knock Off deals with psychic and ghost types. Rock Slide hits flying types like Talonflame and Braviary. Bulk Up boosts your attack and defense.

Weakness policy endure

Hitmonlee (M) @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Knock Off
- Stone Edge/Earthquake
- Endure

The idea of this set is to endure on a psychic type, such as Espeon or Starmie and activate weakness policy + unburden. CC is Lee's most reliable STAB option. Knock off gives lee a move to hit ghosts and psychic with. While stone edge destroys talonflame. You could also use earthquake if you want to deal with weezing better

Ability: Unburden
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- Poison Jab / Knock Off
- Endure

Lansat Berry + Endure triggers Focus Energy and getting that extra crit chance against Flying-types like Braviary and Mantine with Stone Edge. This also increases the chance of Hitmonlee doing more damage to Fairy-types with Poison Jab or Psychic and Ghost-types with Knock Off respectively. Can't use a Fighting-type mon without its STAB

- Stone Edge / Poison Jab

Hitmonlee has 2 charge moves in its arsenal, and you get to choose between flying coverage and a normal but defence-boosting move to give you the speed boost. HJK is the STAB move of choice (or CC if you hate missing), Knock for those that resist your STAB, and finally either Edge or Pjab depending on what you still need to hit.

Hitmonlee @ Hard Stone
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Knock Off
- Stone Edge
- Fling

One of the many ways Hitmonlee can activate Unburden is by using Fling. A Hard Stone is used because it's the strongest useful Fling you can get (100 BP with the situational effect of powering up Stone Edge prior to using Fling). A significant advantage this has over other options is the ability to lure and hit itemless Ghosts like Dhelmise that could normally take a Knock Off. An Iron Ball gives you 130 BP, but the speed drop would make Hitmonlee too slow to set up before being KO'd. The other moves are straightforward choices. Knock Off is used to avoid being completely walled by Ghost types after using Fling, but you could potentially run Earthquake for Dragalge, Poison Jab for Fairy types, or Blaze Kick for Vileplume if you feel confident in your predicting abilities.

This set is simple, attack until you faint like any other lead.Counter and his trash physical bulk is the key.Sometimes click counter and get a ko by people who don't expect dealing 50% with u-turn.
Stone edge hit talonflame without risking burns.Poison jab to "hit" fairies.

much like pre-dlc1 hawlucha, which lacked auto-terrain support from the tapus and rillaboom that are present now, this set seeks to activate your unburden boost with the defense drops from CC popping your white herb. knock hits ghosts and psychics mainly, jab for fairies, and edge for flying types. bulk up is there as an additional attack boosting move, but i think you could also swap it for another coverage move.

Stole this set from a fire Corthius team. It’s pretty cool and it has a fun speed tier. Being slower than Jolly Flygon sucks, but you have an enourmously strong attack with Reckless HJK that it makes up for it. Brazy mon.

You can actually use the TRs for Overheat, Leafstorm this gen and the base power is 130 no drawback!
