[OVERVIEW]

Roselia is the best Spiker in NU; it can fit on almost any archetype, checks threatening offensive Pokemon, including Wailord and Huntail, and is extremely versatile, being able to fit a wide variety of moves in its last moveslot to accommodate its team's needs. Roselia's access to utility in Synthesis and Stun Spore alongside its ability Natural Cure helps make it rather self-sufficient; while other defensive Pokemon may require team support to function at their peak, Roselia can keep itself healthy while preventing its checks from easily taking advantage of it on predicted uses of Spikes. Unfortunately, Roselia has a rather poor defensive typing that leaves it vulnerable to several common attackers, including Flareon, Chimecho, and Golbat. Roselia also struggles to keep Spikes up on its own, since Hitmonchan easily switches into it and threatens heavy damage.

[SET]

[SET COMMENTS]
Set Description
=========

Roselia's a great Spiker because many common Pokemon, such as Wailord, defensive Relicanth, and Mawile, can't pressure it enough to prevent it from setting Spikes. Synthesis keeps Roselia healthy, letting it continue setting Spikes and checking Pokemon like Huntail and Plusle. Giga Drain helps Roselia immensely against offensive Wailord and Huntail, healing it for a great amount and letting it take multiple Ice Beams, although Hidden Power Grass works on and against bulkier teams due to its greater PP. Stun Spore dissuades Flying-types like Pidgeot and Murkrow as well as Haunter from switching into Roselia while it sets Spikes. Alternatively, Aromatherapy turns Roselia into a cleric and lets it support other bulky teammates by healing them of poison. Hidden Power Fire targets Steel- and Grass-types like Metang, Mawile, Bellossom, and Tropius as well as Glalie. 20 Defense EVs prevent Choice Band Pidgeot's Aerial Ace from OHKOing Roselia, while the remaining EVs go into special bulk to improve its matchup against foes like Wailord and Pikachu.

It's ideal to set Spikes as early as possible; although Roselia will have multiple opportunities to each game thanks to Synthesis keeping it healthy, the chip damage from Spikes helps create and press advantages greatly. Due to Roselia's average bulk, it must be careful of coverage moves like Wailord's Ice Beam; be sure to monitor Roselia's health carefully so that it isn't put in range of a 2HKO from such attacks. Several Pokemon that can take advantage of Roselia detest being paralyzed; using Stun Spore on a predicted switch is generally a low-drawback play, so long as setting Spikes isn't necessary.

Team Options
========

Checks to Hitmonchan are mandatory to pair alongside Roselia, as it's unable to prevent Hitmonchan from switching into it and removing its Spikes with Rapid Spin. Sableye and Chimecho are great partners for this reason, and they also check other Pokemon that threaten Roselia such as Haunter, Golbat, and Chimecho. In return, Roselia checks certain offensive Water-types like Wailord, Huntail, and Seadra. Wallbreakers and late-game sweepers like Metang, Haunter, and Wailord greatly benefit from Roselia's Spikes; furthermore, Metang and Wailord enjoy Stun Spore support, since they're rather slow. Backup checks to special attackers, like Lickitung and Dewgong, are helpful, since Roselia's bulk can lead to it folding to strong, super effective coverage moves.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Hidden Power Psychic lets Roselia immediately deal with Poison-types like Haunter, Golbat, and opposing Roselia as well as chip Hitmonchan. Toxic is a way to cripple Flareon and Torkoal by targeting their longevity, and it aids Roselia against bulky setup sweepers like Chimecho and Vigoroth. Leech Seed can cripple Baton Pass chains and provides Roselia with extra healing, potentially letting it set another layer of Spikes.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Hitmonchan**: Hitmonchan's combination of power and special bulk lets it easily switch into Roselia and threaten it with heavy damage, giving it an opportunity to remove Spikes with Rapid Spin.

**Poison-types**: Poison-types like Haunter, Golbat, and Arbok don't appreciate being paralyzed, but they resist Grass and can also switch in on predicted uses of Spikes to force Roselia out.

**Psychic-types**: Chimecho poses a great threat to Roselia, since it can remove paralysis with Heal Bell and set up in Roselia's face with Calm Mind. Metang is also problematic, since its STAB Meteor Mash threatens to outright remove Roselia with minor chip damage.

**Flying-types**: Murkrow and Pidgeot can easily OHKO Roselia with their STAB Flying-type attacks, while Tropius can use non-Hidden Power Fire variants as setup fodder with Substitute and Swords Dance. None of them want to be paralyzed, however.

Looks good, tbh you could even remove hp psychic and sludge bomb in OO.
I tend to creep Wailords creeping Roselias so maybe some speed (like 24 EVs) on Roselia for an alternative EV spread? Some speed also outspeeds 0 speed Chimecho.

did, the oo removal stuff because sludge bomb literally hits tropius and stun spore punishes hp psychic targets fine enough.

the speed creep issue falls under the hood of "arbitrary speed creep", which we dont do for analyses because then we get into that pitfall of "ok so why doesnt wail just creep 24 speed rose?". no speed evs chime also feels a bit eh to me to mention creeping that; i think being outsped by speedless chan, particularly given its increased commonness in the current meta, makes it hard to justify.

this should be good for qc 2 now

Unfortunately, Roselia has a rather poor defensive typing that leaves it vulnerable to several common attackers, including Flareon, Chimecho, and Golbat. Additionally, its bulk isn't too impressive and allows foes like Wailord that it should reliably check to overwhelm it with super effective coverage moves (I would just remove this sentence. If it doesn't check these things reliably, then there's no reason why it "should" check them. If you wanted to make a point of its exploitable bulk, you can talk about how physical attackers pressure it) . Roselia also struggles to keep Spikes up on its own, since Hitmonchan easily switches into it and threatens heavy damage.

Mention HP Fire somewhere in here. Hitting sunnybeamers is often more important than crippling them with stun spore. Also hits maw, glalie, and some other shit

I like hp psychic still and moving hp fire to the main set. having offensive options to pressure shit can be more useful than just paralyzing them and all. sometimes you're just one hit away, or the opp is statused with something else, etc.

========

Backup checks to special attackers like Lickitung and Dewgong are helpful, since Roselia's bulk can lead to it folding to strong, super effective coverage moves. (consider reworking this last sentence to start with your second clause, and end with your first, so that it doesn't read like the special attackers are Lickitung and Dewgong (which is what I read as first and was like, wait a sec))

Other Options
=============

Hidden Power Psychic lets Roselia immediately deal with Poison-types like Haunter, Golbat, and opposing Roselia as well as chip Hitmonchan (38.5 - 45.6% to CB is significant enuf imo that chan should be mentioned).

===================
