The idea of this thread is to provide a visual reference of which Pokémon do what in the SS NU metagame.
The aim of providing this information is to help players new and old with team-building and role-filling in the current NU landscape.

Shown below is a list of roles; Pokémon that can fulfill the roles are nested beside each one. The Pokémon listed should be able to viably fill the role and are not listed in any particular order . The Compendium will be updated to include all options presented in the Viability Rankings Thread. If there is a Pokémon which is not listed which can perform well in a certain role, please feel free to post about it and we may add it. Finally a reminder that this thread is not meant to be a place for discussion about the viability of Pokémon in general, which would be best done at the Metagame Discussion thread.

Just wanted to inform that the Role Compendium should now be up to date, with both ban slates completed and the september shifts settled in.

Some notes:

- Due to the influx of mons from DLC, I decided to remove all PU or lesser indication from the compendium, sort of to create a "clean slate" . This isn't to say we won't see any on the VR when it is updated, or that you "can't use" them. I mean right away I can think of a mon like Appletun who is a great Ninetales check right now. Until the VR is officially updated, I won't be adding any PU or lesser mons to the compendium just because after many months of accumulating shifts, it got to a point where we had too many PU options listed many of which were unviable.

Howdy,

NU Role Compendium has been updated to the Nov 15th shifts.

Due to the size of the DLC 2 wave and the anticipated volume of incoming mons on the 1st of Dec, all prior NU mons that are now PU or lower have been removed from the compendium, including long time SS NU staples like Garbodor, Wishiwashi, Quagsire and Ferroseed. As stated before, this does not mean there aren't viable options to use right now from PU etc. There is just not much point in listing them here when it is subject to drastic change in a little more than a week.

As always, please PM me to inform of any omissions or errors as I'm sure there are a few!

Some Notes

• PM me if you notice errors or omissions; this update was basically a ground up rework since the tier completely changed so high chance there are things that can be improved. Please PM first and save making an actual thread post about a single mon for later on when things have been more set in stone.
• Certain options although available to certain Pokemon have not been included because of their inherent set issues- an example is Golisopod has access to both SD and Bulk up, but due to Emergency Exit it is not a choice conducive to setup and so it was not included under those fields.
• PU has 136 pokemon right now, many of which are certainly viable in NU. Until NU Staff creates a new official Viability Rankings, I will not be adding any of those Pokemon to the compendium - for now it is choices that are NU by usage.

Just wanted to let you guys know the compendium has been brought up to date given the recently updated NU Viability Rankings .

All mons that are ranked B- or higher are included, as well as mons that are lower but are NU by usage (for example Espeon or Araquanid).

Entei was banned and not added. Glastrier is undergoing a suspect and will be added depending on the result.

C+ and C rank mons were excluded for now, so not as to crowd an already packed compendium. They are listed below:

I like this decision!!

in general, i think those mons should only be included when few other things fill their niche. for instance, i’d consider omastar as a suicide lead (set-up sweeper seems outclassed by Blastoise, though i suppose you could include it for the purposes of setup spam teams it rly isnt good).

Id also add garbodor (and maybe qwilfish?) as Spikers, since we have so few. slash-a is ranked highly enough rn not because of spikes setting but because of hail sweeping, so including actual spikers would help (even if they are low ranked)

Garbodor should be higher than c+ anyways so not rly a conflict!!

Also a bit late but thanks Expulso for the comments also, I agree about garbodor and added it soon after, it is basically our best spikes option now. At least it has moved up in the VR a bit.
