I guess if you’re a big fan of voter suppression, intimidation, and the shitshow of the electoral college where joe once again is going to win the popular vote then sure

you right wingers just ignore reality. Same people who mock the “tolerant left”. No we just aren’t tolerant of fascists and white supremacy sympathizers
I voted Green, because I don't vote for mass incarceration, student and credit card debt crises, the elimination of glass steagall and financial crises, de-industrialization via NAFTA and PNTR w/ China, I don't support the drafting of the Patriot Act, or voting for the Iraq War, I don't support the humiliation of Anita Hill, etc. etc. etc.

Sure, right winger. Joe Biden is the right winger.
I wasn't a fan of the voter suppression, intimidation, and the shitshow of the primary that the Dems used to rob Bernie.

edit: The Democrats are a party that plays the game. It's hilarious to watch them hand-ringing over a potential Trump victory announcement when Pete Buttegieg literally did the same w/ the help of the media to rob Bernie of his win in Iowa. If eletorial bullshit persists in this system, it's due to either Democratic negligence or Democratic incompetence. I honestly thought Biden had it in the bag, but I underestimated how much people hate shitty corporate right-wing liberals.

This time, the buck stops with them.

capitalism is evil. joe biden is evil. but when its capitalist evil vs fascist evil and you decide eh id rather just vote someone else then you're contributing to fascism. i voted gloria la riva in 2016 because yeah sure normally id always vote 3rd party but no reasonable person can watch trump and his base the last 4 years (and last month especially) and think this shit can actually go on 4 more years without becoming essentially a dictatorship. for the first time in the 3 elections ive experienced (not counting any from before 2012 where i didnt understand anything) this is the only one where for once voting 3rd party was actually a vote for the nazi leader

and before anyone gets it twisted i dont think most conservatives are nazis or bad people or whatever. i have many conservative friends n they vote based on financial reasons or abortion or whatever. but the actual leadership in the whitehouse is WHITE SUPREMACISTS. and if u think this is just some type of rhetoric you just really need to research the people who have a voice in trumps ears.

I'm sure my vote counted in Hawaii really helped bring in the fascist dictatorship.

edit: and I call bullshit on playing defense/excuse making for the Dems against a critique from the left post-voting. Sure vote for Biden, support Biden. But it'd be ridiculous for any actual leftist that hates Joe Biden to say the Dems DON'T own this loss and responsibility for it (if they lose-- as of this post, it looks like Biden may win with exactly 270 electoral votes ). Bernie and progressive leaders [embarrassingly] did everything they could to get Joe to win.

To almost no one's surprise the polls showcasing an overwhelming, landslide victory to Biden were wrong just like 2016. It's almost as if there's so many affluent libs in the media class are in such an echo chamber that they don't realize the rest of the country exists. Which is exactly the problem with the Biden campaign in general since he was basically targeting college educated affluent libs and "never Trump Republicans" instead of like. the working class. But I guess it was easier for him to keep telling working class people w concerns to "go vote for Trump" than to substantiate any meaningful policies that would change their lives for the better.

Don't mind me I'm just bitter :^) lmao.

Either way as it stands it still does look like a close Biden victory, but I'm not completely sure rn. I think he's clinched WI, MI, and NV at this point with mail ins coming which may favor him. Sooo I think the dems might win. But we'll see.

Biden only needs Nevada, Michigan, and Wisconsin to win, and they all look like they're going blue. The scary part is whether Trump will accept the results of the election
The mail in votes will be predominantly blue. Thankfully this isn't limited to those three states, and nationwide we're going to see a small blue surge as time goes on. That will make whatever bullshit Trump pulls a lot harder to get away with. There's still a small, but not 0 chance that Biden will win GA and NC as mail in votes are counted. PA, despite the light red tint has a good chance of flipping blue. They still have 1.5 million un-counted mail in votes that only need to shift the balance by about 500k to flip the state.

Trump can still win as well but thankfully things are slightly looking good for Biden. I know it looks scary but the next couple days are going to see millions of mail in votes counted that will make this whole map look a bit more blue.

It not really that surprising. Undecided voters at this stage were just hesitant Trump supporters, Texas was never going to be in play, Florida is officially a Red state.

If it wasn't for Trump being a buffoon when it came to Covid, he would be taking this race comfortably. This is against Biden who is as moderate as you can possibly be with a former AG as VP. Republicans are maintaining the Senate and making ground on the house and have a Supermajority in the Courts. I don't understand why Democrats are terrified of progressives or even radical leftists at this point; you literally have nothing to lose now.

actually, i think trump probably got more votes and a higher turnout despite the worse polling numbers because of covid. people who dont even like trump much were tired of masks, isolation, and after they saw him get healthy in like 3 days despite being a fat old man, they were like what the fuck im tired of this shit and bidens just gonna shut it down more.

now of course trumps been out here running super spreader events killing people at his rallies (like hermain cain) as they brag about their crowd sizes but people dont care about that. i think frustration about covid resulted in this big trump surge.

No. It’s way too early to say that. All of the outstanding votes are mail-in votes and heavily Democratic votes in major cities (Philadelphia, Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta and NYC have not been even close to fully counted as of this post). California, NY, Illinois, NJ, Massachusetts are all less than 80% counted. Their outcome was never in doubt. We will likely see Joe Biden winning the electoral college by a smaller margin than predicted, but the national popular vote should fall right within the margin of error of national polls. That’s a problem in our electoral college system (and the Senate) continuing to diverge from the National popular vote. It’s not the polls.

That is simply false. Donald Trumps approval / disapproval polling, along with Trump vs. Biden polls were identical in February 2020 (pre-covid) to October 2020. This race was never in doubt. The bigger story is how unresponse American voters are to the world around them. It always will be nothing more than a cult of personality culture war.

Remember, all those Trump voters in Florida voted to raise the minimum wage to $15. Why do people still assume policy and current events have anything to do with voting behavior? There is clearly no correlation.

honestly what is this. you come in this thread telling people voting third party that their vote is for a nazi, but you have conservative friends? why are you in this thread, go deal with your racist friends maybe? i feel like that would be a little more helpful than shaming someone for voting for an objectively better candidate than the one you voted for in a rigged election where most people's votes dont matter regardless

Fair reminder that Trump's idea to stop the vote counting and declare victory is the most blatant display of fascism from any president, and half the American public still hasn't woke up and realized that. I genuinely have no idea what else Trump could do to make people realize just how bad he actually is. This is the most anti-American idea that I've ever seen and I'm not even from there!

Like, sure, it's something I wouldn't put past Trump with all the loony vibes he's given off for the past 4 years, but like...wow?

All of this should be obvious to human beings with more than two brain cells fighting each other for survival. Don't really have a place to voice my actual shock these past 48 hours.

Also... I'm not sure why Trump would want that. If we stopped counting right now Wisconsin, Michigan, and Nevada would stay blue and ensure exactly 270 electoral votes to Biden. Somewhat ironically Trump's best chance right now is just to let fair and free elections do their thing.

idk I think the electoral problems of neoliberalism are on extremely stark display based on these results. it is p. much incontrovertible that Sanders would have won in florida against trump if you take the fact that trump won while the same voter group also voted for increasing the minimum wage. I can't really grapple with the idea that democrats voted for Biden in the primary due to a notion that he was safer than Sanders, but even the most brainwashed conservative voters can't be fooled all the time, imo conservative leaning voters will come around to politicians like Sanders because a substantial economic incentive is offered, but half-baked neoliberal platforms accompanied by sweet nothings and defensiveness only further push these voters away from the party. This result did not have to be as close as it was, dems could have won florida this time around with a more vocally progressive platform. If dems don't learn from this florida result, in 2024 we'll be getting president Tom Cotton.

There is no way in hell self-proclaimed “socialist” Bernie Sanders would have won Florida.

Trump and Sanders agree on... almost literally nothing. People in Florida voting on a state-wide minimum wage is different from a Federal min wage. Voting on a state wide min wage increase absolutely does not compare to all the many, many big expensive things Bernie proposed.

Additionally even if Bernie made it through the primaries you're going to see the world's easiest propaganda campaign against him. "Bernie the SOCIALIST" literally jacks itself off when Bernie calls himself a "Democratic Socialist". I would have loved to see a Sanders presidency but the guy would have been absolutely shredded in a fight against Trump.

You know it's bad when Americans would rather vote for a gay black Muslim than a socialist.

Polling has been garbage in 2016 and its garbage in this election now. He's an incumbent president with low unemployment numbers, no publicized wars, and a still energized base while Democrats are pretty much all over the place with no clear message outside of "we're the lesser evil". There's no way he doesn't win this without Covid lingering around for months and now resurging so close to election day. Democrats may have barely squeaked by now, but soon a "smart" Trump will emerge, and that's what worries me the most.

This was never about policy, of course we knew this already. The GOP is simply adopting the fascist strategy where certain things for them don't apply to everyone else. We saw that in full display when they shoved Barrett in the Court before the election took place.

Love how defeatist ppl r that the thought of Bernie being accused of being socialist is enough to say no to him running lol. Guess what. Any Democrat is gonna be called a socialist. Biden is being called a socialist and Kamala is being called radical left lol. The difference is Bernie actually has a platform that addresses the material concerns of the working class and actually extended the Olive branch and met people where they were to explain his policies and remove the "scary socialism" from them.

myzo right ofc but it prolly wont be cotton. he has a repulsive, slithering quality of the type that sets off deep genetic discomfort and defenses among regular people. it will be someone dumber. prepare for the qanon wave in 2022 followed by president mypillow guy in 2024.

i am going to be sick these next few days seeing the set of people who selected biden suddenly recast his defeat as the fault of the people he was explicitly picked to silence. the same people who said biden and the CIA congressional brigade could ride their support for "doing popular poll-tested things" like EITC increases to an eternal triumph of neoliberal liberalism are now recasting this as an incredible upset victory against not only the forces of racialized hatred but a saboteur contingent within their own party. the left will be described as "too woke" and the entire election as a "resounding defeat for woke identity politics". recall, of course, that the claim in the primary was that sanders was insufficiently intersectional, focused too much on class compared to joe biden's softer touch among "the communities of color who are the most loyal democratic voters". but, too, that biden was not taken by the fancies of identity madness during the campaign, that he was a more straightforward messenger of core dem economic issues. an empty vessel, gregarious and stupid, beholden to the royalist interests that elevated him -- have elevated him since the start of his career as the senate's servant of the Money Power -- and losing whatever independent cognition he mightve had -- whatever they needed him to be, with justifications adaptable. that they can jettison explanations at will should show you that what they care about is what is beneath: defense of the economic hierarchies that the neoliberal set of institutional attachments are meant to maintain.

the correct answer, as ive thought for a while now, is a class first appeal that recognizes that the conditions of economic existence are the primary means by which control is exerted and freedom subverted in American life, both sustained by and sustaining the intertwined race and gender and etc hierarchies that also create unliberty and suffering. using that as the universal argument allows you to create bonds of empathy even on the more specific but also vital issues of identity that will be so bemoaned in the coming years.

to conclude on a happy note: lets hear it for white men! we reduced our trump vote share, perhaps the only group to do so. weve been learning, weve been growing, weve been doing better.

Well of course Bernie is better than those candidates and large amounts of the working class really took took to his and authenticity (which establishment Dems crucially lack). But that doesn't really change the fact that a ton of people take one look at him and dismiss him as a communist, certainly a lot more people than do so Biden. Running on a platform of lifting up the lower classes and tackling wealth inequality vs Biden's running on a platform of returning to normalcy, yeah clearly Sanders has a better platform. We know that. Lots of people just want a return to normalcy though, and Bernie lost the primary by some sizable margins so I don't know what to say

Trump voters are either racists + misogynists or extremely fucking delusional as far as I'm concerned. How he's managed to make so many people support him is a genuine mystery to me and I just can't fathom any half decent or rational person wanting to vote for him.

ManOfMany you have to keep in mind that the idea that it's good to return to 'normalcy' in the first place is like sheer propaganda. like, part of the reason people are scared of a 'socialist' candidate is the very fact that the democrats push the idea that 'socialism is bad' just as strongly as republicans do.

i'm not really going to get into what would happen if bernie had been the nominee, but like, what we should be more interested in is 'what if the party decided to actually get behind bernie's policies.'

Polling has been garbage in 2016 and its garbage in this election now.
Polling was within 1% of the final vote in both 2016 and 2018. Expect the same when all remakning 2020 votes are counted.

As I said, American voters are completely unresponsive to stimuli. Trump’s approval / disapproval has been 42-43/52-53 for the entirety of his term, through both a booming and a crashed economy, impeachment, and covid. This election was determined back in January 2017, and negative partisanship forecast modelers have predicted this exact outcome over 2 years ago.
