Official NBA 2010-11 Season Thread

Regular season... obviously means nothing around playoff times if you've noticed...

Rondo/the rest of the Celtics play on a completely different level when the playoffs come... while teams like the Cavs win 66 games then have another 60+ win season and cant even make the Finals...

Plus, Bosh and Gasol basically cancel out as they are basically the same player. Kobe has pretty much started every season 60%... He just decided to make it known this time

At this point, we will just have to see what happens during the season. The Heat may have 3 All Stars but its clear teams like the Celtics and Lakers are way more complete teams and arent going to be dominated like Heat fans think. Its not as simple as LOL teams could barely hold one and now theres three on the court.... The court doenst increase in size when you add all stars heat fans
 
Because people made it like he absolutely couldnt be countained, but in that case if you want a recent example in the playoffs

Artest "contained" Durant pretty much every other game in that series forcing him to shoot some terrible percentages... He can lock up, and its not like Lebron is amazingly bigger than him physically... Throw in the fact that hes more physically gifted than actually skilled basketball wise, and in a 7 game series there are at least 2-3 games where Lebron has terrible games. Bank on it
 
Glad you can use regular season examples and expect us to take them seriously but when other people use counterexamples about the exact same topic you say "lol regular season doesn't count".

Also, Durant =/= Lebron? Their only similarities are that they're prolific scorers, their games are entirely different.

I agree that the Heat probably won't steamroll the competition or anything, just sayin' the Heat are, in all likelihood, not going to be steamrolled themselves.

(I'm not a Heat fan, just a realistic and objective basketball fan)

I just used a playoff example.... That should've satisfied you if all I could use was regular season examples

As for being able to lock down a scorer, that is why I mentioned Durant... Lebron is not that skilled of a scorer, hes just physically gifted. Durant is way more of a skilled scorer than Lebron and he got contained by Artest, what makes you think somebody who isnt as good of a scorer as Durant and isnt much bigger than Artest is just going to walk all over Artest?
 
Ah shiet Wade strained hamstring in the first 3 mins eh?

I doubt they're gonna push for him to get mins in the preseason. Then again Im sure they want to have some continuity with the Big 3 going into the season.

Few notes from pre-season:

  • Dwight Howard has some new post moves so far.
  • Wade's injured, but the Heat didn't play too shabby. Frontline's a little thin, though.
  • Suns are starting Hedo at 4? God, why does that organization fail so much.
  • Edit: LMAO, Dallas you will never guard point guards. NEVER.
  • Honestly, to me the Bulls and the Bucks are near equals.
Also.. what was that debate about just now? A match-up between the Lakers and the Heat?

Well, right now Heat win the perimeter and Lakers win the paint. It's pretty much who is better at dominating which parts of the court. No point in comparing Wade/Kobe. Both similar players with one just being younger and a step ahead in defense.

If the Lakers have Bynum I still favor them but if they don't I favor the Heat.. that's if the Heat get to the finals, though. Too early to be talking about anything like this.
 
It was interesting to see that when Dwayne Wade went out with an injury last night that LeBron James became the LeBron we were used to seeing in Cleveland. I think they'll be very good, but I don't get the hype about them being able to break the 1995-1996 Chicago Bulls single season record. That isn't going to happen with their current roster. Maybe in the future.

I actually can agree, I could see the Wizards sneaking into a playoff spot actually this year. They wouldnt actually go anywhere, but if Wall continues to play like he has I cant see why they cant challenge for a 6-8 seed in the East
 
I think the heat will have trouble over who's team it is. Wade is the captain but I'm sure in time Lebron will not want to play second fiddle even though he said that what he wants. I see Boston getting to the finals for a rematch from last year's finals. Boston is coached much better. They will rest there players and maybe stand for 50 wins. Miami will go all out for 72 and will be tired in the postseason. Wade could get hurt which could screw them up.
 
Mozgov is looking pretty good and can't rule out a trade bringing the Knicks some serious talent with Curry's expiring contract & other assets. I'm liking the direction that the Knicks are going in.
 
Is Arenas still with the Wizards? Weren't they trying to null his contract or something after that whole gun fiasco?
 
Yeah he's still there. Although it sounds like now, he's trying to build up his reputation back so he can move on to a new franchise. Tough, Arenas was one of the players I rather liked.

Nah, their best hope is to land Melo and either Parker this year or CP3 next year. Tbh, I could see a team like the Nets landing CP3 since they should be in Brooklyn at that point.

Still, a 2011 starting lineup of:

Parker

Is...well, not winning any titles, but it will be a 50 win team for the rest of the decade!

What's your point? I think "without their stars" is the key phrase. I think I knew that at the time of the post.

Another thing I found bad about the Heat so far is their rebounding and defense at the center spot.. yikes. Their match-ups against bigger teams is going to be ugly.
