Groudon @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 Spd / 252 Spe
Adamant / Impish Nature
- Thousand Arrows
- Thousand Waves
- Entrainment
- Taunt / Baneful Bunker / Court Change

Introducing Groudon 2000. Arrows and Waves help Don smack down and trap things that Zacian-C hates like Volt Absorb Volcanion and Ho-Oh while Entrainment is there to counteract opposing Entrainment trappers like Ferrothorn and even Zama-C to shuffle it out when it tries for Anchor Shot on you (just be careful around Magic Bounce). It also gets rid of abilities like Fur Coat that could annoy Don from Steel- and Fire-types that could otherwise attempt to stall it out. Taunt denies recovery from slower guys like Zygarde-C, Necrozma-Dusk-Mane, and Swampert. Baneful Bunker is there to scout, heal, and punish U-turns from guys like Regenvest Zygarde-C or Yveltal but you could also slap on Court Change depending on the rest of the team.

Congrats to a loser to winning this week! cityscapes and Flaming Deoxys tie for 2nd! Next week is Mix and Mega...
Week 12: Calm Mind Lunala (Mix and Mega)
:ss/lunala:

Lunala @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Shadow Shield
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Moongeist Beam
- Moonblast
- Roost
You have until 12/25 to submit a partner for Lunala! As always you have 24 hours to finish reservations so make sure to finish in a timely manner.

Urshifu @ Aerodactylite
Ability: Unseen Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Wicked Blow
- Close Combat
- Poison Jab
- U-turn / Sucker Punch

Urshifu is an excellent partner for Lunala as it helps put massive pressure on Darks and some major special walls like Blissey, and often forces in Extreme Speed users that if dented will find it much harder to break through Lunala as a potential counter. Very few things override this core either - most checks that do not lose momentum to the other are either Slowbronite users or are situational answers like Ho-Oh.

:ss/pheromosa:
Pheromosa @ Metagrossite
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Lonely Nature
- U-turn
- Close Combat
- Drill Run
- Ice Beam

Pheromosa is an good teammate with its strong synergy with Lunala and how it's capable of beating most threats that Lunala do not like. For example, it outspeed Urshifu, and threatens it out, and it can also beat Blissey. Likewise, it can bait in Extreme Speed users, and chip them down for Lunala to deal with. It can handle some Slowbronite mons by itself with Ice Beam, but like other fighting types, it's handled by Ho-Oh. You can pair this and Lunala with something that can force out Ho-Oh.

Why would you use ice beam instead of triple axel?
100 acc > 70ish acc

i do agree that axel is better since it goes through zyg subs and im 90% sure itll kill altaria landos where ice beam wont (dont quote me on that part since im too lazy to calc it) but both are about equally justifiable.

anyway:

Zacian @ Life Orb
Ability: Intrepid Sword
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Play Rough
- Wild Charge
- Substitute
- Swords Dance

zacian is a good partner since it outspeeds can ko/setup on switch on grossite urshifu + threaten special walls and appreciates lunala checking pex and eternatus. i opted for sub instead of another coverage move since it potentially protects from an espeed which can be problematic.

Kartana @ Metagrossite
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Leaf Blade
- Sacred Sword
- Swords Dance

Kartana with Knock Off is a very underrated partner to Lunala, as it's one of the few pokemon that can actually Knock Off Ho-Oh's HDB. Pretty much every other Koff user is someone Ho-Oh would never be caught dead switching into, and with Heavy Duty Boots it's extremely difficult for Lunala to break past teams with Ho-Oh. Kartana also handles the likes of Blissey and Gyaradosite Toxapex for Lunala, and can help overwhelm shared checks like Mandibuzz who cannot both take on Kartana and remain healthy enough to check Lunala. In return, Lunala does a decent job of taking on checks to Kartana like Solgaleo and Eternatus for it.

Thank you to all who submitted, the submissions are as follows:
:urshifu: Chazm with Aerodactylite Urshifu
:pheromosa: SectoniaServant with Metagrossite Pheromosa
:zacian: parr0t with Zacian
:kartana: Quantum Tesseract with Metagrossite Kartana
Voting closes 12/27. As always you may vote if you submitted, as long as you do not vote for yourself. And as always, I'll use my vote as an example.
1. Chazm
2. parr0t
3. Quantum Tesseract

On another note, the activity for Mix and Mega has been considerably lower than other tiers over the past 3 cycles, so I will be reconsidering their place in this project. I do not plan to remove them immediately, but I have not decided yet. Most likely, there will be one more chance to pick up the activity, and if that still doesn't work I will either replace it with another tier or just run this project with AAA/BH. I will be talking around to get other opinions before making an official decision. Thank you!

Congrats to Chazm for winning this week! parr0t comes in 2nd and Quantum Tesseract in 3rd. Your names will be added to the Hall of Fame! On the note of Mix and Mega, I received overwhelming feedback to close MnM immediately based on its activity, so for the time being, this project will only be running AAA and BH. Next week is AAA...
Week 13: Sheer Force Genesect (Almost Any Ability)
:ss/genesect:

Genesect @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Mild Nature
- Leech Life
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Shift Gear
The deadline to submit a partner for Genesect is 1/1. As always, reservations last for 24 hours, so make sure to finish in a timely manner.

Zapdos-Galar @ Life Orb
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Thunderous Kick
- Brave Bird
- U-turn
- Taunt

Zapdos-Galar pairs well with SF LO Genesect due to its tendency to force in Psychic and Fairy types which Genesect can then set-up on. It also provides a fairly consistent earlygame wallbreaking option which can help chip down the opposing team for the midgame.

Mew @ Leftovers
Ability: Dauntless Shield
EVs: 200 HP / 252 Def / 56 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Body Press
- Roost
- Skill Swap
- Flamethrower

This mixed dauntless shield mew aims to capitalize on two of Genesect's strongest switchins: blissey and doublade, as well as being able to tank hits and punish mons that genesect doesn't reliably KO, like victini or snorlax.

Important Calcs:
  • 2hko on physdef blissey
+1 252+ Def Mew Body Press vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Blissey: 434-512 (60.7 - 71.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

  • 2hko on max hp doublade, you take 21 max from sneak / gyro
56 SpA Mew Flamethrower vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Eviolite Doublade: 162-192 (50.3 - 59.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Doublade Shadow Sneak vs. +1 200 HP / 252+ Def Mew: 62-74 (15.8 - 18.9%) -- possible 8HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Doublade Gyro Ball (88 BP) vs. +1 200 HP / 252+ Def Mew: 67-81 (17.1 - 20.7%) -- possible 7HKO after Leftovers recovery

  • you outstall v-creates with roost and lefties and body press chunks after their def drop
252 Atk Choice Band Victini V-create vs. +1 200 HP / 252+ Def Mew: 177-208 (45.2 - 53.1%) -- 0.4% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
+1 252+ Def Mew Body Press vs. -1 0 HP / 0 Def Victini: 90-106 (26.3 - 31%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

  • you tank skewda liquidations and do 70-80 back
252 Atk Life Orb Barraskewda Liquidation vs. +1 200 HP / 252+ Def Mew in Heavy Rain: 129-152 (32.9 - 38.8%) -- 5.2% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
+1 252+ Def Mew Body Press vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Barraskewda: 181-213 (68.8 - 80.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

  • skill swap helps your team with mons like pheal chomp and lax, and bpress punishes lax hard before he gets curses up
252 Atk Garchomp Earthquake vs. +1 200 HP / 252+ Def Mew: 79-94 (20.2 - 24%) -- possible 6HKO after Leftovers recovery
+1 252+ Def Mew Body Press vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Garchomp: 125-148 (29.7 - 35.2%) -- 20.9% chance to 3HKO

252 Atk Snorlax Darkest Lariat vs. 200 HP / 252+ Def Mew: 120-142 (30.6 - 36.3%) -- guaranteed 4HKO after Leftovers recovery
+1 252+ Def Mew Body Press vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Snorlax: 338-398 (64.5 - 75.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

  • you do decently well vs mons like spear kyurem as well
+1 252 Atk Kyurem Icicle Spear (5 hits) vs. +1 200 HP / 252+ Def Mew: 150-180 (38.3 - 46%) -- approx. 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
+1 252+ Def Mew Body Press vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Kyurem: 262-310 (67 - 79.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Alternate Slots (sorted by viability)

stealth rock > flamethrower, drop spatk evs and put them into HP
this pretty much guarantees rocks up for you since most blisseys are bounce, they're threatened by the 2hko from bpress and switch out into another mon giving you a free turn to get rocks up

defog > flamethrower
probably the most reliable if your team really doesn't struggle vs doublade or steel mons like that. Gives mew more utility but it bricks vs ghost mons

HDB > lefties
another consistent choice, gives you a better mu vs spikes and easier switchins

helmet > lefties
punishes mons like barra and victini WAY more than lefties or boots. Also gives you a better mu vs corvi variants, you force them to use more roosts

Garchomp @ Toxic Orb
Ability: Poison Heal
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Impish Nature
- Earthquake
- Dragon Tail
- Swords Dance
- Protect
Sheer Force Genesect mostly struggles with Fire-types like Heatran, Volcarona, and Victini, so I wanted to pair it with something that could handle those. On the flip side, Genesect is able to take on some of Garchomp's checks like Tapu Bulu, Dhelmise, and Corviknight. This core is really good at breaking balance teams, and here's a team I built with the core. This core is successful at breaking most balance teams, but can struggle against strong breakers like Spectrier and Noivern, so it's important to have checks to those two.

Terrakion @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- Poison Jab
- Earthquake

This thing is a fire resist that can kill them and still heal itself on switch out. It also outspeeds noivern with Choice Scarf and (hopefully......) hits it with Stone Edge. Also hits other steels for Genesect with Close Combat, its a good, strong Pokemon with decent survivability thanks to Regenerator. Genesect can deal with Toxapex, Corviknight, and Mew thanks to its STAB Leech Life and Sheer Force boosted coverage.

Barraskewda @ Choice Band
Ability: Primordial Sea
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Liquidation
- Flip Turn
- Aqua Jet
- Close Combat

Barraskewda is the best way to get momentum in the entire metagame, and pretty much all of its switchins are bait for Sheer Force Genesect, from Garchomp to Tapu Fini to Tapu Bulu. Pretty much the only thing you can't just Flip Turn out to Genesect on are Storm Drain or Desolate Land Pokemon that are flat out immune to it, and even then Genesec can threaten some of them like Zapdos with a Super Effective Ice Beam if you pull out a double, making it an effective partner with rocks there too. In addition to the momentum chain, Barraskewda can also take on Fire-type Pokemon that threaten Genesect fairly reliably and can annihilate any special wall that tries to check it.

Victini @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Desolate Land
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- V-create
- Bolt Strike
- U-turn
- Trick / Toxic / Final Gambit

Why: SG SFLO Genesect's biggest obstacles if any are first its less-than-ideal speed tier when not boosted to +2 and second the task of finding the right opportunity to click Shift Gear. Victini creates a solution to both of these problems. Choice Scarf + Desolate Land means it not only introduces speed control, but also provides a an invitation to pokemon like DShield Mew, Swampert, Garchomp, Tapu Fini, PrimSea Zapdos, and even Flash Fire users such as Mandibuzz to switch in. While each of these tend to serve as suitable answers to Victini, the significance lies in the fact that they're coming in at all. By merely existing as Genesect's teammate, Victini can seek to monopolize momentum by choosing to U-Turn expecting its aforementioned defensive answers to come in, then go to Genesect and either Shift Gear or get a kill with BoltBeam + Leech Life. This is a near-ideal scenario, as it means Genesect is relatively free to pick whatever option the player deems suitable for the situation. The advantage that Victini has over Flip Turners like Swampert, Barraskewda, and Primarina is that U-Turn can't be countered by opposing permaweather and thus will almost always put the user in position of control. While more defensive pairings with Genesect could also work, the nuke potential of 180 base power V-create in the sun isn't something to be ignored--and the utility of the last slot adds an extra layer of freedom to patch up bad matchups.
