[OVERVIEW]

Omastar holds a niche as a threatening Shell Smash sweeper thanks to its high Special Attack and solid movepool. While its poor defensive typing does hold it back somewhat, it does allow it to take advantage of the likes of Weezing and Charizard. Its solid physical bulk allows it to take advantage of physical attackers such as Silvally Ghost to gain a Weak Armor boost, allowing Omastar to bypass typical offensive checks. However, even after a boost, Omastar is revenge killed by Choice Scarf Togedemaru as well as priority users such as Toxicroak which can limit effectiveness as a sweeper. Additionally, Omastar can struggle with bulky Water-types such as Jellicent and Lanturn if it has already used Meteor Beam.

[SET]
name: Shell Smash
move 1: Shell Smash
move 2: Meteor Beam
move 3: Surf / Hydro Pump
move 4: Ice Beam / Earth Power
item: Power Herb
ability: Weak Armor
nature: Timid / Modest
evs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Power Herb allows Omastar to use Meteor Beam immediately, providing Omastar with a one-time nuke that enables it to force its way past checks such as bulky Water-types like Jellicent and Lanturn as well as Assault Vest Guzzlord after it is chipped. Surf provides Omastar with a reliable STAB move while Hydro Pump is a more powerful option that grants Omastar a OHKO against Gallade after a Shell Smash boost. Ice Beam is coverage for Grass-types such as Whimsicott and Alolan Exeggutor while also wearing down Guzzlord. Alternatively, Earth Power is Omastar's best move for hitting Lanturn and Toxicroak while also hitting other Water-type resists like Jellicent for neutral damage. While a Timid nature allows Omastar to outspeed Choice Scarf Passimian after a boost, a Modest nature is better suited for teams utilizing Sticky Web or Dual Screens as it grants Omastar a guaranteed OHKO against Virizion after Stealth Rock damage.

Pivots such as Heliolisk, and Passimian provide momentum, wearing down opposing teams over the course of a match so Omastar can clean late-game. Heliolisk can take advantage of most Water-types while appreciating Omastar breaking Palossand. Sticky Web setters such as Ribombee and Galvantula pair well with Omastar, allowing Omastar to outspeed threats like Choice Scarf Togedemaru after a boost. These Pokemon also help Omastar wear down its checks, with Ribombee weakening Fighting-types and Guzzlord while Galvantula pressures bulky Water-types like Jellicent. Dual screen setters such as Uxie and Xatu can provide Omastar with additional setup opportunities and make it harder to revenge kill. Uxie and Xatu check Fighting-types and can bring Omastar in safely with U-turn and Teleport respectively.

[OVERVIEW]

Omastar holds a niche as a threatening Shell Smash sweeper thanks to its high Special Attack and solid movepool. While its poor defensive typing does hold it back somewhat, it does allow it to take advantage of the likes of Talonflame. (might be worth adding another example like weezing here; talon might leave, and while it's certainly among the most important examples, it's not the only one.) However, even after a boost, Omastar is revenge killed by Choice Scarf Togedemaru as well as priority users such as Toxicroak which can limit effectiveness as a sweeper. Additionally, Omastar struggles with bulky Water-types such as Vaporeon, Jellicent, and Lanturn if it has already used Meteor Beam.

Surf provides Omastar with a reliable STAB move while Hydro Pump is a more powerful option that grants Omastar a OHKO against Gallade after a Shell Smash boost. Meteor Beam provides Omastar with a one-time nuke, allowing it to force its way past checks such as bulky Water-types like Vaporeon and Lanturn as well as Assault Vest Guzzlord after it is chipped. (might be nitpicky, but you should probably mention that power herb allows you to immediately use the move once. you don't mention ph in particular anywhere, so you may as well do it here.) (another suggestion is that you put the meteor beam description before the water STAB description seeing as meteor beam is listed first.) Ice Beam provides coverage for Grass-types such as Virizion, Whimsicott, and Alolan Exeggutor while also wearing down Guzzlord. Alternatively, Earth Power is Omastar's best move for hitting Lanturn and Toxicroak while also hitting other Water-type resists like Vaporeon and Jellicent for neutral damage if Meteor Beam has already been used. Pivots such as Talonflame, Heliolisk, and Passimian provide momentum, wearing down opposing teams over the course of a match so Omastar can clean late-game. (oma and these pivots are capable of pressuring one another's checks, which is probably something you should highlight.) Sticky Web setters such as Ribombee and Galvantula pair well with Omastar, allowing Omastar to outspeed threats like Choice Scarf Togedemaru after a boost. These Pokemon also help Omastar wear down its checks, with Ribombee weakening Fighting-types and Guzzlord while Galvantula pressures bulky Water-types like Vaporeon. Silvally-Ghost synergizes well with Omastar, taking advantage of Fighting-types like Toxicroak and Passimian for it while Omastar breaks down walls like Regirock and Weezing in return.

dual screens support from xatu or uxie is worth mentioning imo. oma having its bulk increased can mean more opportunities to set up, better mus against priority users, and possibly having weak armor procced, which means choice scarf users suddenly can't revenge kill you at +2. the last one isn't as noteworthy as the other two, but it can definitely be game-changing. xatu and uxie can also provide support in other ways (i.e.: checking fighting-types, blocking hazards, pivoting, sr, memento).

Surf provides Omastar with a reliable STAB move while Hydro Pump is a more powerful option that grants Omastar a OHKO against Gallade after a Shell Smash boost (Hydro Pump is fine but Gallade isn't the most relevant Pokemon to be using as an example here). Ice Beam is coverage for Grass-types such as Virizion, Whimsicott, and Alolan Exeggutor while also wearing down Guzzlord. Alternatively, Earth Power is Omastar's best move for hitting Lanturn and Toxicroak while also hitting other Water-type resists like Vaporeon and Jellicent for neutral damage if Meteor Beam has already been used (this part is fluff) (also mention Modest somewhere, it gets a few more favorable rolls on OHKOs such as Virizion at +2 and Heliolisk at +3 if running Ice Beam). Pivots such as Talonflame, Heliolisk, and Passimian provide momentum, wearing down opposing teams over the course of a match so Omastar can clean late-game. Talonflame in particular can help Omastar deal with Virizion and other Fighting-types while Omastar breaks Rock-types like Regirock and Gigalith for it. Heliolisk can take advantage of most Water-types while appreciating Omastar breaking Pallossand. Sticky Web setters such as Ribombee and Galvantula pair well with Omastar, allowing Omastar to outspeed threats like Choice Scarf Togedemaru after a boost. Silvally-Ghost synergizes well with Omastar, taking advantage of Fighting-types like Toxicroak and Passimian for it while Omastar breaks down walls like Regirock and Weezing in return (this is correct but the wording feels like a copy and paste from the Talonflame section, might be better just to remove it but I think it can work here if worded properly). Dual screen setters such as Uxie and Xatu can provide Omastar with additional setup opportunities and make it harder to revenge kill. Uxie and Xatu check Fighting-types and can bring Omastar in safely with U-turn and Teleport respectively. These Pokemon also support Omastar in other ways, Uxie can provide Stealth Rock and Memento support while Xatu can block opposing entry hazards (I think dual screens support is enough as their other unique qualities aren't worth an extensive mention).

I think this is good but the analysis in general feels a tad too long, especially for a mini. There's a good amount of fluff here I skipped over because I'm not completely sure it's bad, but it's still making the analysis longer than needed.

ty! implemented most. I was contemplating adding the modest nature initially since it does give Omastar better rolls vs Virizion and works better with webs where speed doesnt matter as much though I'll wait for QC to see what they think.

weak armor should briefly be mentioned somewhere in this overview, it can help oma to bypass typical offensive checks. its typing and decent physical bulk can also make proccing it rather easy at times.

(now that modest is slashed, explain the benefits of going timid vs modest. the former is generally more useful for outspeeding stuff, while the latter is better suited for webs/screens teams like you mention above but can struggle outside of them bc stuff like scarf pass now outspeeds you at +2.)

i went ahead and split the set comments into two paragraphs in response to the am check's concerns with the length of this analysis. this way, imo, it's easier to read through. with that said, i didn't really have much to say here; just a few small additions, really. good job, qc 1/2!
