It uses Scald as the STAB move for its chance to burn the foe, which can help in matchups versus Taunt users like Mega Gyarados and setup Pokemon such as Swords Dance Garchomp. It uses Acid Armor and Calm Mind to take less damage from physical and special attackers, such as Mega Charizard X, Victini, and Genesect, while boosting Scald's power. It uses Rest as its recovery move gets rid of status and helps PP stall other stall Pokemon such as Slowbro and Chansey. Sitrus Berry is useful for instant recovery in matchups versus powerful attackers like Choice Band Terrakion and Mega Charizard X.

EVs

The EVs increase Manaphy's mixed bulk while allowing it to outspeed Genesect and Speed tie base 100s like Jolly Mega Charizard X, giving it better odds to beat it. It also has 4 Special Defense EVs to stop Genesect from getting a Special Attack Download boost.

Usage Tips

Manaphy's matchups usually come down to using Acid Armor on physical attackers and Calm Mind on special attackers. Against Charizard, it is best to use Acid Armor if you do not know its Mega Evolution, as most Mega Charizard Y will win anyway by using Solar Beam; however, if you know Charizard will Mega Evolve into Mega Charizard Y, it is possible to win if it has less Special Attack investment with good rolls. Due to Manaphy's moves having high PP and it having Rest, it is able to outstall other stall Pokemon such as Slowbro and Registeel.

However, this set struggles from having to rely on Endure predictions in many matchups, making it unreliable. Chesto Berry is an alternative to Sitrus Berry that helps standard Manaphy against Genesect and helps it be less prone to critical hits, but Sitrus Berry is generally preferred.
