[OVERVIEW]

Meloetta's Normal / Psychic typing allows it to shine offensively and defensively in 1v1. It's also blessed with good bulk, allowing it to sponge strong hits such as Outrage from Mega Charizard X and Dark Pulse from Greninja. Meloetta also has access to Hyper Beam, Uproar, and Psyshock, as well as a plethora of coverage moves such as Focus Blast, Thunderbolt, and Hidden Power Fire to widen the number of Pokemon it beats. However, Meloetta's Speed is lackluster, so it is vulnerable to faster Pokemon, especially Substitute users such as Mega Charizard X, since they block Hyper Beam. The abundance of Steel- and Rock-type Pokemon such as Archeops, Mega Mawile, and Mega Metagross also hinders Meloetta, as they resist its STAB moves and tank its coverage moves. Meloetta also has to pick its checks and counters depending on its teammates because it can only carry so many coverage options.

[SET]
name: Choice Specs
move 1: Hyper Beam
move 2: Psyshock
move 3: Uproar / Focus Blast / Hidden Power Fire
move 4: Focus Blast / Hidden Power Fire
item: Choice Specs
ability: Serene Grace
nature: Modest
evs: 252 HP / 12 Def / 244 SpA

[SET COMMENTS]
Set Description
========
Choice Specs Hyper Beam easily OHKOes many offensive threats such as Kyurem-B, Porygon-Z, and Mega Charizard X. Psyshock is used to deal with Terrakion and Mega Venusaur. Meloetta can utilize Uproar to defeat Pokemon that use Substitute such as Whimsicott and Serperior. Uproar is also a safe option against Endure users like Manaphy and frail offensive Pokemon such as Greninja, and it usually defeats Mega Venusaur. Focus Blast allows Meloetta to defeat Mega Tyranitar and Heatran. Hidden Power Fire allows Meloetta to defeat Ferrothorn and Genesect.

EVs
========
252 HP EVs combined with 12 Defense EVs allow Meloetta to survive Hyper Beam from Choice Scarf Porygon-Z, Outrage from Adamant Mega Charizard X, Bug Buzz from Choice Scarf Genesect, and Dark Pulse from Choice Specs Greninja. Meanwhile, 244 Special Attack EVs and a Modest nature allow Meloetta to maximize its offensive potential and defeat the aforementioned Pokemon. If Meloetta is running Hidden Power Fire and wishes to beat Choice Specs Genesect, an alternative EV spread of 252 HP / 152 SpA / 104 SpD will allow it to survive a Choice Specs Bug Buzz and OHKO back with Hidden Power Fire.

Strategy & Support
========
Faster Pokemon might run Substitute, or slower Pokemon can run Endure; if you suspect this and have Uproar, it is the safest option. Notable Pokemon that run Substitute are Greninja and Mega Charizard X, while Pokemon that can run Endure are Manaphy and Mega Medicham. Meloetta usually fails to defeat specially defensive Pokemon like Mega Charizard X and Kyurem-B, so analyzing your matchup at Team Preview will help—these Pokemon don't always run Special Defense investment unless their partners are weak to specially offensive Pokemon. Other bulky offensive Pokemon can tank all of Meloetta's attacks, notably Dragonite, Hoopa-U, and Mega Gyarados, so offensive Pokemon that can power through most of these threats such as Mega Tyranitar, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Mawile help Meloetta. Meloetta also suffers against opposing Steel-, and Rock-type Pokemon such as Mega Mawile, Mega Metagross, and Crustle, so defensive Pokemon such as Mega Slowbro, Mega Sableye, and Mega Venusaur also help. Fast hard-hitters such as Mega Lopunny and Choice Band Victini are also threats to Meloetta, so physically bulky Pokemon such as defensive Mega Charizard X and Diancie or faster Pokemon such as Choice Scarf Terrakion helps Meloetta fend these threats off.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
Choice Specs Meloetta can utilize Dazzling Gleam to deal with Mega Sableye, but it has to be wary of Calm Mind and Snarl. Trick can be used to defeat Registeel and Chansey. A Choice Scarf set with 252 Speed and Special Attack EVs and a Timid nature with Hyper Beam, Psychic, Focus Blast, and Thunderbolt can be used to deal with fast heavy-hitters such as Greninja, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Gyarados.

Checks and Counters
===================
**Bulky Steel-type Pokemon**: Steel-type Pokemon like Mega Metagross and Mega Mawile have no problem tanking any coverage move from Meloetta.

**Bulky Rock-type Pokemon**: Some bulky Rock-type Pokemon like Choice Band Archeops, Rhyperior, and Mega Diancie have no problem taking on Meloetta even if it has Focus Blast.

**Offensive Bulky Pokemon**: A lot of fast, bulky Pokemon like Dragonite and Hoopa-U can take on Meloetta easily.

**Fast Hard-hitters**: A lot of Pokemon are fast enough to outspeed Meloetta and pack the power to OHKO it, like Mega Lopunny, Choice Band Victini, and Choice Specs Porygon-Z.

+ Has access to Hyper beam + good coverage moves notably Dazzling Gleam and Shadow Ball which it can use with Hidden Power Fire to widen the number of Pokemon it beats.
- Not an amazing speed tier leaving it vulnerable to faster Pokemon that run substitute to block Hyper Beam such as Zard X. Mention Uproar here.
- Abundance of Steel- and Rock-type in the metagame Mega Metagross, Mega Mawile, Tyranitar-Mega
- Usually has to pick its checks and counters as it cannot afford sufficient moveslot to beat everything it can beat.

Set Description
========
- Hyperbeam is the go-to nuke it can easily OHKO many offensive threats such as Kyurem-Black, Porygon-Z, and Mega Charizard X and Y.
- Shadow Ball helps Meloetta against Ghost-type Pokemon such as Aegislash, plus it allows it to defeat Heatran, and Mega Slowbro.
- Psyshock is used to deal with Fighting-type Pokemon such as Terrakion plus it helps Meloetta defeating Chansey when its run with Trick. Mention M-Venu here
- Trick is used to cripple defensive Pokemon such as Chansey, and Porygon2.
- Uproar is used against Pokemon that run Sub to defeat Meloetta such as Whimsicott, Jumpluff, Serperior, and occasionally Mega Charizard X. It's also a safer choice against some Pokemon, as Hyper Beam can either miss or fail to OHKO, such as Greninja, and Mega Venusaur, or against Pokemon that run Endure notably Manaphy.
- Dazzling Gleam is specifically used to defeat Mega Sableye.
- Hidden Power Fire allows it to defeat Scizor, Ferrothorn, and Genesect which otherwise are able to beat it.
- Choice Specs is used to maximize Meloetta offensive capabilities and nail the OHKO on the aforementioned Pokemon.

EVs
========
- 252 HP combined with 104 SpD allow Meloetta to lives Hyper Beam from Choice Scarf Porygon-Z, Mega Charizard Y Blast burn, Mega Charizard X Outrage, Choice Specs Genesect, and Choice Specs Greninja.
152 SpA + Modest allows Meloetta to maximize its offensive potential and defeat the aforementioned Pokemon.

Strategy & Support
========
- Utilizing Meloetta isn't locked behind any secret, the key is to make use of its variations of moves.
- Faster Pokemon might run substitute or endure if you suspect it and if you have uproar click it. Notable Pokemon that run sub are Greninja (note: It's safer to click uproar vs Greninja since it OHKOs either way): just make this its own point honestly and Mega Charizard X. Pokemon that run endure are: Manaphy and Porygon-Z.
- Meloetta usually fail to deal significant damage to some specially defensive Pokemon naming Specially defensive Zard X and Kyub so analyzing your matchup at team preview will help, these Pokemon don't always run Spdf unless the opposing team is weak to specially offensive Pokemon. Other bulky offensive pokemon can also tank special hit notably Dragonite, Hoopa-U and Mega Gyarados. Offensive Pokemon that can power through most of these threats such as Mega Tyranitar, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Pinsir helps Meloetta.
- Meloetta also suffers against opposing Steel-, and Rock-type Pokemon that can sponge any hit thrown at them such as Mega Mawile, Mega Metagross, and Mega Tyranitar so defensive Pokemon such as Mega Slowbro, Mega Sableye, and Mega Venusaur also helps. Be careful that the aforementioned Pokemon does not beat all 3 and the final Pokemon on the team should be able to beat the threat that is left. These defensive Pokemon can also take on the aforementioned bulky offensive Pokemon.
- Fast Hard-hitters such as Mega Lopunny and Mega Pinsir are also a threat for Meloetta, so physically bulky Pokemon such as Defensive Mega Charizard X and Diancie, or faster Pokemon such as Choice Scarf Terrakion helps Meloetta fend these threats off.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

A Choice Scarf set with 252 Speed and Special Attack and a Timid nature with Hyper Beam, Psychic, Thunderbolt/Focus Blast, Trick can be used to deal with fast heavy hitters such as Mega Pinsir, Greninja, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Gyarados if using Thunderbolt while keeping positive matchups against other Pokemon like Porygon-Z, Heatran if using Focus Blast.

Checks and Counters
===================
**Bulky Steel-type Pokemon**: Most Steel-type Pokemon have no problem tanking any coverage move from Meloetta since they have a resistant secondary typing, so Pokemon such as Mega Metagross, Mega Mawile, and Jirachi easily defeat Meloetta.

**Bulky Rock-type Pokemon**: Some Bulky Rock-type Pokemon have no problem taking on Meloetta even if it has Focus Blast, these Pokemon includes Choice Band Archeops, Rhyperior, and Mega Tyranitar.

**Offensive Bulky Pokemon**: A lot of Fast bulky Pokemon can take on Meloetta easily as they can sponge any hit and retaliate back with either one or two hits, these Pokemon include Dragonite, and Hoopa-Unbound.

**Fast Hard hitters**: A lot of Pokemon are fast enough to outspeed Meloetta and pack a lot of power that can KO Meloetta, these Pokemon include Mega Lopunny, Mega Pinsir, and Choice Specs Porygon-Z.

Hyperbeam Choice Specs Hyper Beam is the go-to nuke as it can easily OHKOes many offensive threats such as Kyurem-Black, Porygon-Z, and Mega Charizard X. Psyshock is used to deal with Terrakion, Mega Venusaur, and Chansey when if runs Trick with Psyshock mention this with Trick imo. Trick also helps it cripple Porygon2. Meloetta can utilize Uproar to defeat Pokemon that uses Substitute such as Whimsicott, and Serperior. Uproar is also a safe option against Custap Berry + Endure I imagine, although stuff like Mega Medicham and zardy use it now so maybe not users like Manaphy, usually specially defensive Pokemon like Mega Venusaur, and against frail offensive Pokemon such as Greninja, and usually defeats specially defensive Pokemon like Mega Venusaur if there are other special walls, include them, if not, delete "specially defensive Pokemon like". Focus Blast allows Meloetta to hit defeat Mega Tyranitar and Heatran. Hidden Power Fire allows Meloetta to defeat Mega Scizor has this been run since 2019? I don't play this tier much but... no-, Ferrothorn and Genesect. Choice Specs is used to maximize Meloetta offensive capabilities and nail the OHKO on the aforementioned Pokemon. moved this up top

EVs
========
252 HP EVs combined with 12 Def EVs allow Meloetta to lives survive Hyper Beam from Choice Scarf Porygon-Z, Adamant Mega Charizard X's Outrage, Bug Buzz from Choice Scarf Genesect, and Dark Pulse from Choice Specs Greninja. Meanwhile, 244 SpA EVs and a Modest nature allows Meloetta to maximize its offensive potential and defeat the aforementioned Pokemon. If you're running Hidden Power Fire and wish to beat Choice Specs Genesect, an alternative EV spread of 252 HP / 152 SpA / 104 SpD will allow Meloetta to live survive a Choice Specs Bug Buzz and OHKO back with Hidden Power Fire.

Strategy & Support
========
Faster Pokemon might run Substitute, or slower Pokemon can run Endure; (semicolon) if you suspect it this and have Uproar, it is the safest option. Notable Pokemon that run Substitute are Greninja and Mega Charizard X, meanwhile Pokemon that can run Endure are Manaphy and Porygon-Z zardy mmedi, also pz is not an example I would think of, idk if it's still relevant or I am just an oras noob. Meloetta usually fails to defeat specially defensive Pokemon like Mega Charizard X and Kyurem-Black you say you win against both of these in the earlier sections, so please be more specific or correct where this is wrong so analyzing your matchup at Team Preview will help—these Pokemon don't always run Special Defense investment unless their partners are weak to specially offensive Pokemon. (period) Other bulky offensive Pokemon can also tank special hit notably all of Meloetta's attacks, notably Dragonite, Hoopa-U and Mega Gyarados, (comma) so offensive Pokemon that can power through most of these threats such as Mega Tyranitar, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Pinsir when was the last time this was used (surely there is a better example) - I think Mawile beats all 3, malt does well too, etc helps Meloetta. Meloetta also suffers against opposing Steel-, and Rock-type Pokemon that can sponge any hit such as Mega Mawile, Mega Metagross, and Crustle, (comma) so defensive Pokemon such as Mega Slowbro, Mega Sableye, and Mega Venusaur also helps. Be careful that the aforementioned Pokemon does not beat all 3 all 3 what? this is just a confusing sentence and the final Pokemon on the team should be able to beat the threat that is left possibly give examples? idk how this sentence got through 2 QCs. These defensive Pokemon can also take on the aforementioned bulky offensive Pokemon this too, what are the bulky offensive pokemon? that's like half of all 1v1 mons. Fast hard-hitters such as Mega Lopunny and Mega Pinsir why is this mentioned so much, please find another example are also a threats for to Meloetta, so physically bulky Pokemon such as defensive Mega Charizard X and Diancie, or faster Pokemon such as Choice Scarf Terrakion helps Meloetta fend these threats off.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
On the Choice Specs set Meloetta can utilize Dazzling Gleam to deal with Mega Sableye, (comma) but it has to be wary of Calm Mind and Snarl raised eyebrow emoji. Meloetta may also carry Shadow Ball if it wishes to defeat Aegislash vomiting emoji, I would rather use energy ball / grass knot tbh, but even that seems not ideal. A Choice Scarf set with 252 Speed and Special Attack and a Timid nature with Hyper Beam, Psychic, Thunderbolt/Focus Blast, and Trick can be used to deal with fast heavy hitters such as Mega Pinsir aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, Greninja, Mega Lopunny, and Mega Gyarados if using Thunderbolt, (comma) while keeping positive matchups against other Pokemon like Porygon-Z, (comma) and Heatran if using Focus Blast.

Checks and Counters
===================
**Bulky Steel-type Pokemon**: Most Steel-type Pokemon like Mega Metagross, Mega Mawile, and Jirachi (jirachi in 2022 yep) have no problem tanking any coverage move from Meloetta since they have a resistant secondary typing all of the Pokemon you mention here only need the steel typing to defeat melo I think, so Pokemon such as Mega Metagross, Mega Mawile, and Jirachi easily defeat Meloetta.

**Bulky Rock-type Pokemon**: Some bulky Rock-type Pokemon, such as Choice Band Archeops, Rhyperior, and Mega Diancie have no problem taking on Meloetta even if it has Focus Blast, these Pokemon includes Choice Band Archeops, Rhyperior, and Mega Diancie.

**Offensive Bulky Pokemon**: A lot of fast bulky Pokemon like Dragonite and Hoopa-U (feel like there are better examples than dnite, not sure what they are tho :p) can take on Meloetta easily. (period) as they can sponge any hit and retaliate back with either one or two hits, these Pokemon include Dragonite, and Hoopa-Unbound.

**Fast Hard hitters**: A lot of Pokemon are fast enough to outspeed Meloetta and pack a lot of the power to OHKO it, like these Pokemon include Mega Lopunny, Mega Pinsir, who bribed you and Choice Specs Porygon-Z once again, these seem like slightly dated examples.
