OU ORAS OU Magic Matchmaking - Round 7: Diggersby!

:BW/Tyranitar:

I just discovered this and although late I would like to contribute with the following companion that I find quite interesting for M-Alakazam

Tyranitar (F) @ Chople Berry
Ability: Sand Stream
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 80 Def / 180 SpD
Impish Nature
- Stone Edge
- Superpower
- Earthquake
- Pursuit

Although it is a more Bulky set and deals almost no damage, it has an interesting amount of coverage allowing it to safely hit Mons like Bisharp, Weavile, Chansey, Heatran, and even Volcarona. Coming to the most interesting calculations in my opinion, which would be the following:

(252 Atk Choice Band Weavile Low Kick (120 BP) vs. 248 HP / 80+ Def Chople Berry Tyranitar: 288-340 (71.4 - 84.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO)
(252+ Atk Life Orb Bisharp Iron Head vs. 248 HP / 80+ Def Tyranitar: 283-335 (70.2 - 83.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO)

Tyranitar with good handling can return the Kill with SuperPower, and Chansey, although I'm not sure if it kills, it's not a position Chansey is comfortable in, while it makes some steel types uncomfortable, like Heatran or Magnezone.

But the bottom line is what Alakazam brings to this synergy that can't work better with another partner, it's the fact of the walls and the Boosters, things that take advantage of using some SD, CM, or its playstyle is more of a status that cannot break this version of TTar M-Alakazam can be supported with Encore or Taunt to take the advantage, the only disadvantage is that the changes have to be more premeditated since we tank a hit from either Weavile or Bisharp, but if they are hits instead we no longer have the same luck.
Finally, I want to add that you can even play Assault Vest, which is a version with more physical defense, compensating for the Boost of the Assault Vest, which allows us to play better against Mons like Heatran, Tornadus, Thundurus, Magnezone, and even for the extra defense we can carry if we opt for AV, Bisharp, although Weavile becomes a bigger threat, but if it is locked in Low Kick, Alakazam can come in and use Substitute against Weavile and regain the advantage.

Honestly I fell asleep. (I gotta stop putting these for 12am.) Anyways! We got a bit fewer than what we've gotten for the first 2, but that's perfectly fine. So, who can enable the yellow fellow the best?

Option A
:sv/bisharp: :assault vest:

Option B
:sv/serperior: :chesto berry: (mix, sob)

Option C
:sv/weavile: :choice band:

Option D
:sv/zapdos: :leftovers:

Option E
:sv/tyranitar: :chople berry:

Deadline: 2.1.2024 20:59 -4 GMT

Option C but I do want to ask why chople berry on ttar? Personally I am not looking for a pokemon to tank a fighting hit when I am using Mega Alakazam a psychic type (even with its low defense). I would rather use Tyranitar for more power on that team. Maybe I am wrong I have just woken up I just find the item choice a little strange.

Congratulations to GOATED im_m0rtal. for winning this round! The next suggestion was suggested by this round's winner, and features another ice type (I'm sensing a pattern). Well, here we have it:

Roound 4: Kyurem Black
:sv/kyurem black:
Kyurem-Black @ Life Orb
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Mild Nature
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power
- Fusion Bolt
- Roost
Boasting incredible offensive stats, a decent speed tier, and the coveted BoltBeam combo, it's able to ravage through the tier if left to reign surpreme. Cube (Kyu B) is one of the tier's best mixed wallbreakers. While it's ice typing hold's it back from continuosly switching in on it's targets, its dragon typing allows it to serve as a check huge offensive threats like Serperior and Manaphy. Due to its half typing, it appreciates Pokémon like Excadrill that are able to remove hazards, and switch into fairy types that might force it out. Who else is able to help Black Kyureme conquer all?

Deadline: 2.8.2025, 14:00 -4 GMT. (playing with the time here so i dont miss it)

Weavile @ Choice Band
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Beat Up
- Icicle Crash
- Pursuit
- Ice Shard

The double ice core. Kyurem Black provides its monstrous attack that boosts weavile's STAB banded beat up to great levels. The Kyu-B set is customizable on different teams. Any neutral mon takes A LOT from 6x Beat up. The combination of Kyurem-Black and Weavile will offensively complement each other and wear down their common checks.

Volcanion @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 232 HP / 176 Def / 4 SpD / 96 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Steam Eruption
- Flamethrower
- Toxic
- Protect

Volcanion is great into many things that switch into Kyurem-Black, namely Mega Scizor. Having access to Toxic and Protect also lets Kyurem-Black break far easier. Volcanion is also able to switch into the Pokémon that threaten Kyurem-Black and force progress as a result. Do note that these two Pokémon share a rock weakness, so you must pair these two with hazard removal and resists.

Serperior @ Chesto Berry
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 200 HP / 44 Def / 12 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Leaf Storm
- Hidden Power [Fire] / Hidden Power [Rock]
- Glare
- Rest

Serperior is great into bulky Water-types that otherwise sit on Kyurem such as Slowbro and Alomomola since it uses them to grab free Leaf Storm boosts. Serperior can beat one of Kyurem's biggest checks in Clefable with Leaf Storm boosts. Hidden Power Fire allows Serp to smack Ferrothorn and who is otherwise a pain for Kyurem to face.
Resto Chesto allows Serp to also act as a pseudo status absorber by eating Thunder Wave from Clefable while Glare let's Serp paralyse would be checks such as the afformentioned Clefable making it harder for them to stop Kyurem from breaking. Serperior also has a relatively high base speed of 113 that let's it outrun and beat other checks to Kyurem such as Mega Diancie with an OHKO from Leaf Storm.
Aside from the support Serperior provides Kyurem, Kyurem also helps Serperior by providing a second water resist and check to Manaphy thus easing Serp's burden as a water resist.

Y'alls ain't cooking...

Lopunny-Mega @ Lopunnite
Ability: Limber
Shiny: Yes
Happiness: 0
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fake Out
- Frustration
- High Jump Kick
- Toxic

The real heat is here B)
Toxic lures in any and all lop-checks ruining them, pairs great with kyu-b to form an 'unwallable' offensive core where its inherently a lose-lose situation. Anything that walls lop is checked by kyu-b or ruined by toxic, and kyu-b ruins what would wall lop. Its simple, its effective, its elegant.

:bw/jirachi:

Jirachi @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- U-turn
- Iron Head
- Trick
- Healing Wish

Jirachi takes the various moonblasts, mashes, crashes and dracos heading towards kb and ideally brings in grounds/fliers such as landorus, zapdos and rotom which KB exploits. If things go south then trick the scarf away and make them pay with a revitalized Kyurem-Black.

:sm/azumarill:
Azumarill @ Choice Band
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 172 HP / 252 Atk / 84 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Waterfall
- Aqua Jet
- Superpower

Azumarill and Kyurem-Black form a strong offensive, covering each other’s weaknesses while pressuring common threats. Azumarill’s Aqua Jet makes it a great revenge killer, taking out Volcarona, Mega Diancie, and weakened threats like Excadrill, Garchomp, and Mega Charizard X. It also checks Weavile and Keldeo, preventing them from overwhelming the team. Kyurem-Black, in return, handles Serperior, Manaphy, and defensive Grass-types like Amoonguss and Tangrowth, which trouble Azumarill. It also pressures Skarmory, Slowbro, and Volcanion, making it easier for Azumarill to clean up late-game.

Zapdos @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Static
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Roost
- U-turn
- Heat Wave

Kyurem-Black has very few switch ins and those switch ins are almost all steel types and which pokemon walls almost every steel type in the game bar excadrill which doesn't beat kyu-b anyways? Zapdos. Zapdos can also get momentum with u-turn on ground type so Kyu-B can unleash more of its offensive power on the opposition.

Scizor-Mega @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 16 Atk / 12 Def / 16 SpD / 216 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Roost
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn

nothing fancy, a fairy check and a pivot. good defensive typing to complement kyurem-black and good bulk too. this pokemon is an absolute banger that really shuts down the annoying pink pokemon called clefable unless they have flamethrower, and it also is really good into other fairy types like gardevoir. it provides priority that kyu-b really appreciates, and has a health recovering move in roost too. truly one of the best pokemon to help kyurem-black out.

Empoleon @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 80 HP / 252 SpA / 176 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Flash Cannon
- Knock Off
- Defog

Underrated af Kyurem-Black partner for sure. Empoleon resists many of Kyurem-Black's weaknesses, while also providing Defog to the team, as well as being able to fit Knock Off on its moveset. With its typing and high special attack, it can threaten Pokémon like Clefable. All in all, if you are trying to build a team that looks unique featuring Kyurem-Black, I'd advise using Empoleon as your defogger of choice.
