Hello, a week ago the ORAS council sent out a survey to ask certain ORAS players that had had success in tournaments recently how they felt about the current metagame, so we could get a little guidance on what we needed to do (if anything).

The criteria for qualification was:
Any player who got 1 or more ORAS wins in SPL 12
Any player that got 10 or more points in ORAS in season 31 of Smogon Tour
Any player that made the playoffs of 2020 ORAS ribbon tournament, or got top 4 in the last ORAS circuit tour

This gave us a pool of 51 people to survey, 36 of which answered the survey (some of them more than once, Kebab mlml :blobglare:). Thanks for answering btw!

Without further ado, these are the replies we got:

As far as tier appraisal goes, people were generally positive, with 50.1% of respondents feeling the tier is very competitive, and 61.1% finding it very fun.

Next we asked about screens, and almost 2 thirds of respondents didn't think they were a problematic aspect of the metagame. Among those that did find them problematic, the strong preference would be to suspect light clay instead of the screen moves themselves.

Then we asked about several aspects of the metagame that have been brought to our attention at one time or another as potentially broken, namely: Webs, Volcarona, Serperior and Manaphy.

Not a single one of these thing garnered expressive support for a suspect, with only Volcarona had more than 30% of people saying it deserves a suspect (30.5%).

Then we asked about the potential to suspect test Mega-Sableye or Hoopa-U down to OU. Neither of those garnered much support either, both failing to crack 40%.

Finally, we asked about the hax items, with slightly over 50% of people thinking something should be done about them. Then when we got into specifics a staggering 95% of people wanted to see King's Rock banned, 70% wanted to see Quick Claw gone, and 45% Bright Powder.

We also left a blank field where people could post suggestions on what to do other than the stuff mentioned directly in the poll, and we will keep those in mind too.

That's pretty much it. You may use this thread to discuss the survey results, and to offer suggestion about ORAS tiering if you wish, also we'll probably conduct more surveys like this, perhaps after the next season of tour or the next SPL, so keep your ORAS sharp if you want to participate in the next one!
