Resource ORAS OU Team building Competition

That's it for week 3! Congratulations to Paprikaflow for getting a second Hall of Fame appearance. Your team will be added to the list shortly.

Now for week 4...
Jirachi
jirachi.gif

Jirachi is a commonly overlooked and quite underrated steel type in today's meta. It offers unique value in it's combination of typing and movepool giving it access to strong support moves like Thunder Wave, Wish, Healing Wish, U-Turn, Trick, etc. It has good defensive matchups in it's ability to force Pokémon like Mega Alakazam and Diancie to think twice before clicking their STAB moves.
Jirachi can also function as an offensive support Pokémon with Choice Scarf sets that allow it to easily outrun everything at just +1. This paired with it's insane 60% flinch rate from Iron Head and the less commonly used Heart Stamp can allow for Jirachi to hax everything in sight (barring Rocky Helmet and Rough Skin/ Iron Barbs Pokémon).

Jirachi's unique ability to fill a variety of roles coupled with it's deep movepool set it up for potential success that I hope inspires creativity this week.

Happy posting!

Mega Gardevoir ParaSpam

I formed a team around Mega Gardevoir and Scarf Jirachi for this week. Why, one would wonder? Mega Gardevoir greatly appreciates the support of a healing wish because it is a very strong breaker. In addition, Scarf Jirachi gives Mega Gardevoir speed control and U-Turn. Jirachi also like how Mega Gardevoir may open up a route for Iron Head to flinch sweep when it applies pressure to Steel types such as Excadrill, Ferrothorn, Heatran, and so on.
The second member of this team is Azumarill, who can use Aqua Jet to revenge kill Volcarona and is a very strong physical breaker. By applying pressure against Pokemon like Ferrothorn, Skarmory, Volcanion, and Zapdos, it also benefits Jirachi.
The reason Serperior is the next Pokemon on this team is that it can switch in Rotom and offers Glare. Serperior is also grateful for this team pressurizing steel type, which may aid in sweeping.
Zapdos is added because it check plenty of physical attacker, provides a flying type an Volt Switch.
Excadrill is the last pokemon because it offers ground type, Stealth Rock and hazard removal.

It's not a mystery that Jirachi has had the shorter end of the stick when it comes to the usability it brings to the table. At first glance you might think that the possibilities are endless. However, once you dig into the building aspect of it all, you start to see that this metagame isn't very kind to Jirachi at all. Be that as it may, I cooked up something that shows some potential to say the least, so here it goes.
The team is built around one of Jirachi's old gems as sets are concerned, Wish Protect Jirachi. The team tries to capitalize on those juicy Wishes Jirachi is able to pass around while also thriving against the pokémon that check this Jirachi set. So what a better way to start that than using Swords Dance Gliscor? Its ability to come in on heatran and threaten it while also being a status absorber makes Gliscor a stellar Jirachi partner. While Gliscor has amazing recovery on its own, it can also take advantage of Jirachi's Wishes to come in on stronger attacks that it normally wouldn't.
The mega of choice this time is Mega Altaria. With Refresh and Dragon Dance, it is able to 1v1 a surprising amount of the metagame, albeit with the propper support. So that's why Clefable joined the team next, as it is not only the rocks setter for the team, but it is also the Knock Off user of the team, knocking off important pokémon like heatran for the team. Clefable also acts as the Mega Lopunny and Medicham check of the team.
The last two slots on the team were quite clear from here. First came in Zapdos as the defogger for the team, as even having Jirachi's Wishes as a form of recovery, spikes stacking teams could give this team a heap of trouble. And last but not least Keldeo was added to the team as a dark type check and secondary water resist.

Jirachi is a pokemon that holds a lot of promise w/ its utility sets as a rocker, scarfer, general glue w/ its all around amazing stats and incredible defensive utility. Unfortunately, it suffers 4mss where it can run a variety of moves, and wants them all on the same set. Hp, iron head, body slam, thunder, t-wave, trick, elemental punches, sub, wish, the works. It can also get worn down fairly easily if it mindlessly spams u-turn as there's a plethora of physical punishers. Most importantly however, is its complete haplessness into dark mons. Rachi doesn't have that dawg in it...

This is my take on a more offensively minded approach that rachi can generally support. What immediately stood out to me was the options I had; I could go zapdos, keldeo or some alternate fighter to support rachi. Chesnaught here is definitely my favorite option as it gives an offensive mindset and provides much needed bisharp checks, harasses opposing fighters and shits on drill of which are all appreciated. I wanted smth that'd scare the fires like Monday to garfield; so I went w/ maero. M-aero also provides a few crucial soft-checks to fires, zam and the annoying tflame which wants to wisp first before trying to do anything. Rest of the six I felt was just me trying to abuse spikes to break past teams. This is definitely something more offensively minded, so do be aware you're making a lot of aggressive doubles. AV volc is the only real special wall I feel comfortable with on this sort of six, and weavile here gets to jokingly swords dance b/c m-aero also provides pursuit support.

s/o to my boys for inspiring this six, I couldn't have done it w/o you guys.

Going to share a rachi team I already made.

I went with the core of chomp+rachi. Rachi switchs into many of the powerful fairies in the tier and can either rocks or get momentum, we have hwish as well which allows you to get back the 2 strongest hitters on this team chomp and zardy. Chomp is here because SD LO is a pretty powerful set that can break through many defensive cores and lets you be reckless early game and get it back later.

Tangrowth is here for its ability to stuff grounds and and threats like lop and gross.
Scarf Rotom-W is used for its ability to help out against HO and threats like Manaphy and Volcanion
Clefable can be a great 1v1 tool and helps with this teams offense
Zardy is good as its another serp check, ground immunity and can help the team out with defog

Congratulations to Bored Pikachu for winning the week!

This week is gonna mix up the formula a bit...

Hazard Control
Rapid_Spin_VI.png
375px-Defog_VI.png

We're gonna be digging into UU a bit if you don't mind. This week's goal is to build a team with some restrictions to the hazard control Pokémon used. (You have to have hazard removal... don't post teams without removal it will be ignored.)

The banlist is as follows;
excadrill.gif
zapdos.gif
latias.gif
latios.gif
scizor-f.gif
skarmory.gif
cloyster.gif

If a Pokémon with a mega is listed it's mega is also banned.

To clarify, the above Pokémon are not banned outright, they are only banned from using Defog and Rapid Spin respectively.

Before anyone gets cheeky I just want to remind you that MAGIC BOUNCE DOES NOT COUNT!!

Happy posting!

Back again, folks! This time I'm bringing you my spin (pun totally intended) on Tentacruel spikes stack.
As such, the hazard core was first in line. I decided to use Garchomp + Ferrothorn, an omage to them old days. This core is so oppresive defensively and has nearly perfect synergy. By pairing these two with Tentacruel, I gained the ability to set Toxic Spikes up, while also being able to spin opposing hazards away, as well as absorbing Toxic Spikes for the team. As a bonus, Tentacruel has really nice synergy with Ferrothorn. Talonflame was added as the ground immunity of the team. With the ability to use Bulk Up it is able to break through fater teams, and it is able to spread status by using Will-O-Wisp on key threats as well.
With the Fire / Water / Grass core already completed, I decided to finish the Fairy / Dragon / Steel core as well. Unaware Clefable is underexplored to say the least, and its traits work perfectly for this team, as it can pass Wishes to its partners who really appreciate them, as well as heal them of status afflictions with Heal Bell.
Last but not least, or rather I had intended this from the start lol, the mega was added. Mega Lopunny thrives on Spikes stacking teams due to its great speed and moves like Fake Out. I'm using a Power-Up Punch set, as this team was quite pasive and it needed some offensive presence.

Tentacruel HazardStack

Peace be upon y'all. Today, I'd like to present a team I've put together for this week's teambuild challenge, which features Tentacruel. Tentacruel is a very underappreciated Pokemon in ORAS OU, and in my opinion, it is an excellent Pokemon in Spikestack since it can provide Rapid Spin, Toxic Spike, ice resistance, absorb Toxic Spike and the ability to check Volcarona's SubSwarm set and Clefable that lacks Thunderbolt.
Skarmory is the second member of this team since it creates a strong hazard stacking core with Tentacruel and can punish Excadrill with Rocky Helmet.
The third Pokemon in this squad is Chansey, because he provides Stealth Rock and Skarmory values Chansey's ability to check most fire types such as Heatran, Volcarona, Mega Charizard Y, and Volcanion.
The reason Clefable is the next member for this squad is because it provides fighting resistance. Furthermore, Clefable also greatly appreciates hazard stack because it can wear down its check, such as Excadrill and Heatran.
Gastrodon is listed as the next Pokemon because it has two immunities: electric and water.
Last but not least, Mega Lopunny is added because it provides speed control.

Edit : I use Power-Up Punch over Quick Attack for better offensive presence. I also use ice beam Clefable for better matchup against Gliscor.

:forretress::gyarados::chesnaught::zygarde::thundurus::talonflame:

I really like this week's concept. I think other hazard removal options are underexplored. From many many testing tho, I will say that 90% of things suck on BO or balanced. I think tentacruel is super underwhelming. Starmie is still bad but much better than tentacruel.

However, I do think other removal mons are underrated. For example, I think Empoleon is quite a decent pokemon.

Forretress and Donphan are pretty good leads w/ custap berry rocks + spin. Very good at ensuring that rocks stay up and/or dont go up on your field. Forretress in particular has explosion for a better transition to the threats. EVs are to live 2 max attack Excadrill EQs. EQ is to 1v1 drill.

Gyarados is taunt mainly for stall and skarm. Zygarde is this weird set I've been thinking about that I've been wanting to try forever. I think it's decent. Provides glare support which is huge for a slow mon like chesnaught. I love the chesnaught set but it really sucks most of the time lmao, but when it works its super fun. The EVs are for the HP to be divided by 4, for sub + BD to activate salac.

252 Atk Excadrill Earthquake vs. 40 HP / 0 Def Forretress: 127-150 (42.1 - 49.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
216 Atk Forretress Earthquake vs. 36 HP / 52 Def Excadrill: 230-272 (62.1 - 73.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

big shoutouts for anvil head for the set, and Ithi for helping me with the team

Empo is here to fend threats off like weavile just long enough for the other like Volcarona and MMeta to clean house, to defog rocks away for moth and spikes from something like ferrothorn

Volcarona is this team primary win con and we are LO since we can hwish it later

Cresselia hwish is invaluable with pokemon like MMeta and Volcarona and can be quite annoying to deal with it, thanks to twave and its insane bulk

Scarf lando is here for the extra speed control, and a ground and volt switch immunity

Serperior checks waters and can be annoying for other serps, taunt can help wear down bulkier team
