Resource ORAS OU Teambuilding Competition - revived on post #423

Congrats to Waffleztastegood for winning the week! Time for the next one...

Rain!

As we all know, swift swim is a broken ability and is completely unfair and unbalanced. This week's goal is to build a rain team and possibly take advantage of that (if you wanna be a freak and run rain dish Ludicolo... :pikuh: then be my guest...)

There's no restrictions so feel free to run wild.

As always the deadline is 11.10.2024 at 20:59 GMT +3. Happy posting!

LLUVÍA DE TU CIELO - Ft. Raging Bol- err MAmpha

:politoed: :ampharos mega: :seismitoad: :ferrothorn: :latias: :weavile: (<- paste)

I've never ran rain in ORAS. Now I will never do so again. Anyways, here we have it, the long awaited MAmpha rain, together with MPert at home! The original team was built around Mr. Craw, but even with its unswitchable knocks and rain boosted hammers, it was still pretty bad into ferro+wash cores. But then, through an epipahny (searching highest spatk + thunder in builder) the goat; or sheep... or giraffe?, appeared.

:politoed: - needs no explination

:ampharos mega: & :seismitoad: - after being annoyed to oblivion at the ammount of ferro+wash i was facing, i decided to give the thing a chance. this meant dropping megapert (which is super ass ngl), but in its place seismitoad stands proud. and in return, we free up the mega slot for the star of the show. megaampha's damage output is crazy, being able to 2hko pretty much anything and everything through thunder + dpulse. volt allows for some nice pivoting into its partner, seis. momentums alwasys good, but hp ice > volt is an option to bop gliscs on the switch.

:ferrothorn: - stndrd stuff but w eject button, allowing it to serve as an immediate pivot for the rain mon and co.

:latias: - defog + twave + hwsih; this mon has it all. rounds up the team thus far pretty nicely offering ground immunity + a good speed tier outside of rain. hwish is crazy on the off core since seis is super ez to chip, ampha mainly trades, and lastly...

:weavile: - yes, were still retaining the original idea here with another well known knock merchant. helps soften up ferro+wash cores since sometimes those two are the only s/is. trapping bro and the latis is always nice, especially since they might be able to pivot heavily around this squad; and it patches a glaring serp issue the team has.

:azumarill: - this mon has been a huge pain to deal with. i have to land pwip in order to win vs it.

:ferrothorn: & :rotom wash: - are still very annoying to play around since ampha can trade with them at best, forcing them out while dealing big damage. but they can just s/i into the other guys easily.

:charizard mega y: - as it is with rain, yard feasts on it.

:serperior: - very annoying to dance around since its able to click and spam glare with little to no issue.

:metagross mega: with ferrothorn as a fake s/i, it's able to deal some big damage unless i manage to successfuly trap it/chip it into knock from weave.

:Politoed: :Metagross-Mega: :Seismitoad: :Tornadus-Therian: :Kabutops: :Keldeo:

There is a million problems w/ rain, and most of them are pretty easy to resolve barring three - eq prone and rotom/ferro. Eq prone is a matter of keeping momentum since you need to be aggressive asf, ferro/rotom are much more difficult as a lot of ways one can deal w/ them just aren't available like hurricane zapdos. Politoed is a major momentum killer and trying to fit drill in makes it an inherently worse rain team since you're trying to compensate for its shortcomings.

Kabutops goes hard btw, clicking that cb waterfall/edge and watching things drop like you're dropping dracos

ORAS OU Teambuilding Competition - Revived

Once again the ORAS teambuilding competition has been revived! ORAS OU is my favourite metagame and this is my contribution to maintaining it's relevance. Every week there I will provide a theme for everyone to build and showcase teams with a voting period at the end of the week to see which team is the best/ most popular. Don't feel pressured to build teams that will define the meta but rather remember to have fun!

Rules:
1. Submissions:
Post a team in the thread with a pokepaste link as well as a brief description/ explanation of the team and how it functions (if possible provide replays!)

2. Disputes and Copying:
To avoid conflicts over allegations over copying and sharing similar entries, if your team has similar pokemon and sets as an earlier entry, it will be disqualified. Any attempts to get around this by reserving posts shall also result in disqualification.

3. Team changes and Suggestions:
To avoid this thread from turning into an RMT thread, please avoid asking for suggestions in regards to major moveset and Pokémon changes. Minor changes are allowed however please keep them to a minimum and submit completed teams that you are pleased with.

4. Anti-glazing:
To avoid skewing results, vote for teams that you personally think are best. Don't vote for your friends teams just because they are your friends or teams from posters whose names you recognise as a way to get their recognition. In addition, avoid begging for votes and do not vote for yourself.

5. Common sense clause:
Only post teams that are in accordance with the theme for the week. Apply common sense.

6. Post reservation:
You are allowed to reserve posts so long as you finish the post within 48 hours of reservation. If the time elapses without the team being completed, your post will be ignored.

The formatting is as follows;

Rainy season is upon some of us. as such, here I am bringing you a fun rain team that I built really recently.
Do note that this team isn't perfect by any means. Take it as a fun team you can use to have a good time playing some mons.

When building a rain team, one of the most important things you should think of is the mega you are going to use. Mega Swampert is a far cry from what it will become in SM, so I decided to move on and choose another strong oras mega. That's when I stumbled upon Mega Metagross. You might think, but Metagross is one of the best megas in oras OU, what the heck do you even mean? You would be right, of course. But you have to take into account how sparingly people build rain in this tier (with good reason), and how few people will venture to unreconned territory when it comes to building it.
Now that I had my mega of choice, I started looking for my "rain abusers" (with its inherent steel typing, Mega Metagross could be considered a rain abuser too). Kingdra is a pokémon I really like and I think its damage output under rain is tremendous. The ability to nuke bulkier pokémon with Hydro Pump, spam Surf to deal with frailer ones or lure in and ko grass types with Ice Beam, Kingdra serves its purpose perfectly.
Some other traits rain teams really appreciate are flying types and electric types. Thus, Tornadus-Therian and Heliolisk made their way into the team. As well as fulfilling the aforementioned traits, Heliolisk and Tornadus-Therian have secondary roles on this team. On the one hand, we have the flying type Tornadus-Therian, which can spam strong Life Orb Hurricanes without the fear of missing them thanks to the rain. It has Focus Blast as coverage to hit pokémon like Heatran, Ferrothorn or Tyranitar, and it also has Knock Off to get rid of the items on the oposing side. On the other hand, Heliolisk serves as the water immunity of the team thanks to its ability Dry Skin. Its coverage of Surf + Hidden Power Ice is meant to dent the pokémon that would switch in on Heliolisk's stabs and let it click Volt Switch or Thunder freely. Speaking of Volt Switch, Tornadus-Therian'ss last move, U-turn, forms a volt turn core alongside Heliolisk, allowing them both to bring in Mega Metagross or Kingdra.
Excadrill was the last pokémon to find itself on the team, as I needed both a hazard setter and a removal, and Excadrill fulfilled both roles perfectly. In addition, it's also a ground type, which rain teams (and every team in general) really appreciate.

I'm not one to share replays very frequently, but I had the pleasure to use this team on the first round of the Oras OU Rising Stars tournament to success, so watch it to see how this team functions.

:Politoed::Tornadus-Therian::Alakazam-Mega::Keldeo-Resolute::Ferrothorn::Seismitoad:
I put this team together in less than 5 minutes and expected to just lose a bunch of games, but somehow I kept winning and only dropped a single game on accident (thought Seismitoad under Rain outsped +1 Volcarona for some reason). For this reason I will submit it as an entry. Note that the EV spreads are all defaults, I was too lazy to hyper-optimize them.

This team is garbage. It's not even a Rain team. I'm pretty sure hiding within it is an actually competent team if you just drop the Rain Pokemon. Despite this, all the Pokemon seem to mostly cohere with each other. This team is NOT supposed to be played like your usual Rain team where you just lead Politoed and hope for the best. Rain is meant to strategically buff each of your Pokemon in a way that is (usually) less obvious than the "haha Swift Swim go brrr!" you're used to seeing. Is it better than your average Kingdra slop? Certainly not, but I've actually found myself thinking how to play in a few games for once, and found it more enjoyable than hoping I can hit 7 Hydro Pumps (and the odd Draco Meteor here or there) to win.

:Politoed: - Politoed is your Rain guy. Despite this, you don't have to lead with it unless you're certain you'll get a favorable match-up. The regular support set can provide some much-needed breathing room against threats like Volcanion if you haven't Mega-Evolved the star of the show yet. By not being - de facto - forced to lead Politoed, this opens up better opportunities where you can actually time when you want Rain to start, instead of being forced into awkward scenarios where your opponent danced around your T1 Rain turns and forces you to waste a Pokemon before being able to restart Rain. Obviously normal Rain teams can handle this just fine, but since this team is only composed of 1 Pokemon that is totally reliant on Rain, you are significantly more flexible, at the cost of having more limited offensive uses of Rain.

:Tornadus-Therian: - Tornadus-T should be mandatory on Rain teams. Even without Rain, Offensive Torn-T is both a stellar wallbreaker and stallbreaker - so what about with it?. Taunt is necessary to shut down fatter structures and prevent untimely hazards from being set. When Rain is up, you enjoy perfectly accurate Hurricanes that will tear apart basically any team in conjunction with Superpower. Hidden Power Ice nails your usual 4x Ice-weak suspects like Gliscor, while pressuring things like Zapdos.

:Alakazam-Mega: Mega-Alakazam is the pinnacle of this team, and it is somewhat mind-boggling why I never see this thing on Rain when Mega Swampert isn't being used. Protect would normally seem counter-intuitive on a Rain team (aren't you trying to maximize turns?), but it in fact comes in clutch so often for this team. No more Mega-Lopunny Fake Out stalling. No more mind-games with Weavile. Excadrill in Sand just KOed one of your Pokemon? Protect, Mega-Evolve, Trace Sand Rush, win. Rain also makes this thing a pretty decent Volcanion switch-in since Flamethrower's power is weakened. The usual 3 attacks smash stuff like Rotom-W and Ferrothorn who might be able to eat a hit or two from your other Pokemon.

:Keldeo-Resolute: - Keldeo is a crucial check to things like Weavile and Bisharp who would otherwise easily spam their Dark-type moves against your average Rain team. CM + Taunt is very dangerous in Rain since you can easily draw in sponges like Gastrodon and annihilate / severely cripple them with a combination of boosted Secret Swords and Taunt. Meanwhile, Pokemon like Clefable who might normally try and check you get crushed by Rain-boosted Hydro Pumps. At +1 you'll also KO AV Tornadus-T after SR under Rain, which can be critical since it kinda autowins otherwise.

:Ferrothorn: - Ferrothorn stacks your hazards. Dual hazards are quite easy to set up when HP Fires bounce off under Rain, and in general you'd like a safe Serperior pivot. Chople Berry allows you to pretend you counter Mega Lopunny, Mega Medicham, and Mega Alakazam, crippling them with Thunder Wave when they wisen up to the fact that you don't have Protect. Alternatively, you can just KO them with Gyro Ball in this slot instead, which prevents autolosing to Taunt Serperior as well. Getting owned by opposing Water-types is bad so you always need Power Whip.

:Seismitoad: - Seismitoad is somehow always good no matter what kind of team it's on. This is your Volt-Switch absorber and only "true" Rain-abuser. STABs are self-explanatory, Sludge Wave owns most Grass-types, and Focus Blast removes Ferrothorn (and the occasional Mega-Tyranitar that delusionally stays in). Knock Off could be an option just so you have an actual Knock Off user on the team. If you play nicely with Politoed, this thing can just trivialize teams.

Despite all that talk, this team gets owned by quite a few Pokemon.

:Shuckle: - No removal means Webs 6-0s. Maybe Torn-T + Keldeo + Ferro + Seismitoad under Rain might be able to do something? Not really, but you may as well try to preserve your honor and not type "/forfeit" on turn 1.

:Azumarill: - Azumarill just clicks against this team and you're basically always forced to attack it in fear that it may decide to BD and win. Just accept it and move on to the next game.

:Charizard-Mega-Y: - Charizard-Y requires a lot of luck to take on. Since you aren't hitting those 50% accurate Hurricanes and weakened Hydro Pumps, you probably will struggle against this.

:Serperior: - Serperior can Taunt and win if you aren't running Gyro Ball on Ferrothorn. If you don't get multiple layers up or are dumb and let your faster Pokemon get Glared, you won't last too long.

:Landorus-Therian: - Landorus-Therian has a field day with this team if it's Scarf, since it can freely U-Turn for chip and pick things off with Earthquake whenever it feels like taking the chance. Protect on Mega-Alakazam can accelerate hazard chip however, and Seismitoad outspeeds it in rain, so it's not all bad.

:Tornadus-Therian: - Tornadus-T clicks Hurricane and you just lose. You either find a way to get up rocks or lure it in with CM Keldeo, or your team ironically sets up the weather that is used to blow it away.

Politoed for the obligatory rain setter. When testing this team this mon honestly wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, it can help take some crucial hits when you need it to.

Torn cause 100% accurate hurricane makes this mon a beast

Cobalion provides a crucial dark resist, clef answer and a means of momentum which is nice for a rain team

There is a lot of hate on my boy mega pert and I am here to tell you that this mon ain't even that bad. Despite ORAS weird speed mechanics and mega mechanics, this mon has lots of opportunity to mega evolve pretty easily with its fantastic typing, good bulk, and good offensive profile, it makes good use of sub with the amount of switch ins it forces and is just a overall really good hard hitting mon that contributes greatly to this rain team offense.

Goodra is really nice as a rain pick since it a hard wall to serperior, a rest set could also be used instead to screw over glare.

Offmie is a pretty great revenge killer that can chase out crucial threats like thundy and serp after rocks damage

Lucario Rain

Peace be upon y'all. Today, I'd like to present a team I've put together for this week's teambuild challenge, which features Lucario.
Lucario doesn't get enough love in ORAS OU, and I really think it's a fantastic choice for a Rain Team. It does a great job against the Ferrothorn + Rotom core.
The second member is Politoed, as it is the sole rain setter in the tier.
Mega Swampert is the mega for this squad since a ground type with swift swim is a true blessing. I utilize the substitute on Mega Swampert since it helps me avoid status and Bisharp's sucker punch.
I definitely need nuke for this team, thus Kingdra is the next addition to the lineup.
I choose Ferrothorn as the next member because the team needs a hazard setter and it greatly benefits from rain, which eliminates its x4 fire vulnerability and helps the team check Mega Alakazam and Serperior.
Latias is the final pokemon because it provides a defog and healing wish. Latias also could check Keldeo.

Possible change :
1) Ice Punch > Extreme Speed on Lucario because it could snipe Gliscor on the switch.

https://pokepast.es/5680b5c2c2d394a0 - Double weather

Today I'm gonna submit a double weather team that I took my inspiration from a SW/SH team that I played a lot.

I didn't want to try building a classic rain, mostly because I hadn't that much time this week to test and try, like it was made in 10 minutes, so there might be actual flaws and could be optimized, but whatever, here is my team.

I built this team around a specs politoed to lure all the people who thought they would be safe against a siting duck. I took the idea directly from those specs pelipper that do not have a lot of check actually. Even with a poor base spAtk it hits like a truck.

Then I went for a classic Tyranitar/Excadrill sand core, Rock Slide for rapid spin to not get deadweight against rotom and Zapdos. Ttar can run DD I guess, but I prefer pursuit over it.

Finally, the defensive core is compounded of a defog Zapdos, even if it isn't the set that I prefer, I think it fits well here to not have to run rapid spin on Drill. Ferrothorn completes the core, as it synergies incredibly godly with rain and is pretty cool in sand, as it give Manaphy check, and Mega Slowbro gives set up possibilities while checking Mlop and Mcham.

My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. Not a single Ludicolo in sight.
All jokes aside, these are some really cool teams. Here's the vote;

Alright it seems we have a tie between sluGGy and Avendesora...
Oh well, congrats to you both!

Until the end of the month, we'll be running a Halloween special. There'll be two separate psuedo-themes for you guys to post teams for. I'm not expecting anything good, rather try to play into the theme as much as possible.

Part 1;
Ghosts and Ghouls
gengar.gif
sableye.gif
banette-mega.gif

froslass.gif
drifblim.gif

680_2.png

Part 1 is all about these little creepy shadowy ghost guys. Build a team with at least two of these ghost type Pokémon and get as creepy and weird as possible. To add some extra spice, your team should have some backstory/ lore. Tell a story with your team and have it be on theme. Teams that do not adhere to this will not be counted in the vote.

sidenote: you're allowed to submit multiple teams but they must be in separate posts

There's a soft deadline on 22.10.2024 at 20:59 GMT +3.
Happy posting!

Whispering Woods
In the heart of a dense, shadowy forest, where the trees twisted like gnarled fingers reaching for the sky, a chilling tale unfolded each Halloween. This forest was known to the locals as the Whispering Woods, a place where the veil between the living and the spectral thinned and strange occurrences were commonplace. As the sun set on Halloween, a couple, Rowdy and Alice, decided to test the legend. Armed with flashlights and a sense of bravery, they ventured into the forest.

Once they entered the forest, Alice noticed a shimmering figure in the distance. Intrigued, she led the group toward it. They saw a beautiful woman with long black hair and blue lips floated gracefully, her eyes glowing with an otherworldly light. The couple were captivated, but as they drew closer, they felt a chill in the air. Unexpectedly, the weather became snowy. Rowdy was drawn forward, almost as if she were enthralled. But Alice faltered, feeling that something was wrong. She recalled the legends of Froslass and how she had enticed adventurers into the icy depths of the forest, where they would perish. She mustered the bravery to yell at Rowdy to stop. The pair startled out of their reverie, and Froslass vanished as the moment broke the enchantment.

As they wandered deeper, an unsettling silence enveloped them. Suddenly, a low hiss pierced the stillness, sending shivers down their spines. The pair froze, their hearts racing. From the shadows, Serperior slithered into view, its long body coiling gracefully around the gnarled roots of an ancient tree. The creature's eyes glowed ominously, and the pair felt an inexplicable pull towards it, as if it were beckoning them closer. But as they stepped forward, the ground beneath them began to tremble. Panic set in as they realized Serperior was not merely a guardian of the forest but a keeper of secrets, punishing those who dared to disturb its domain. The group fled from Serperior's tree in order to stay safe.

The two ran as fast as they could to escape Serperior. Abruptly, a bolt of lightning struck nearby, revealing a shadowy figure. The pair froze in terror as Thundurus materialized before them, its presence crackling with energy. The couple pleaded for forgiveness, promising to respect the legends and to leave the forest as fast as possible. Thundurus, sensing their sincerity, calmed the storm and vanished into the night sky, leaving behind a single, glowing feather as a memento of their encounter.

The pair stopped by a lake nearby to rest. Rowdy feels very thirsty and wants to drink the lake’s water. As he approached the water, a sudden chill swept through the air, and the surface began to ripple unnaturally. Rowdy's heart raced as he shone his light across the lake, revealing a massive shadow lurking beneath the surface. It was then that he realized he was not alone. Emerging from the depths was a colossal Gyarados, its scales glistening ominously in the moonlight, eyes glowing with an otherworldly intensity. As the Gyarados glared at him, Rowdy felt a strange connection, as if the creature was testing his courage. With a deep breath, he stepped forward, realizing that fear could either paralyze him or propel him into an extraordinary encounter.
The Mega Gyarados, sensing his bravery, calmed its fierce demeanor. The creature submerged back into the depths; the water settled, leaving Rowdy standing at the edge. Rowdy quickly returned to Alice and continued their journey to exit the forest.

All of sudden, The Volcarona emerged from its hidden lair, its body adorned with a spectral luminescence that illuminated the darkened woods. It began to perform its signature Quiver Dance, a mesmerizing display that sent ripples through the air. However, this was no ordinary dance; the movements were fluid yet erratic, as if the creature was channeling the very essence of the forest's haunting beauty. The pairs unable to look away from the Volcarona's captivating yet unsettling performance. The air grew thick with an otherworldly energy, and the forest seemed to hold its breath, as if aware of the creature's dark allure.

A shadowy figure emerged from the trees, Gengar, the Pokémon known for its mischievous nature and ability to manipulate shadows. Sensing Alice and Rowdy's fear, Gengar decided to lend a hand. With a swift motion, Gengar used its ability to create illusions, casting a thick fog around the area. This disoriented Volcarona, causing it to lose sight of the squad. Gengar then guided the squad through the forest, using its ghostly powers to create distractions and obstacles for Volcarona. They navigated through the trees, with Gengar occasionally using its Shadow Ball attack to further confuse the pursuing Pokémon. Alice and her friends, feeling a mix of fear and exhilaration, followed Gengar closely, trusting in its abilities. As they reached the edge of the forest, Gengar conjured a final illusion, making it appear as if the squad had vanished completely. Volcarona, unable to find its target, eventually lost interest and flew away in search of easier prey. Grateful for Gengar's assistance, the squad turned to thank the Pokémon. Gengar simply grinned, its eyes twinkling with mischief, before disappearing into the shadows.

Finally, Alice and Rowdy escaped the forest, forever haunted by the encounter, carrying with them the chilling reminder of the beauty and tragedy that lay within the heart of the woods—a reminder that some legends are best left undisturbed.

The lore :
1) Froslass is based on Yuki Onna. Yuki-onna (雪女, lit. 'snow woman') is a spirit or yōkai in Japanese folklore that is often depicted in Japanese literature, films, or animation.
2) Serperior is based on Ladon. Ladon (/ˈleɪdən/; Ancient Greek: Λάδων; gen.: Λάδωνος Ladonos) was a dragon in Greek mythology, who guarded the golden apples in the Garden of the Hesperides.
3) Thundurus us based on Raijin. Raijin (雷神, lit. "Thunder God"), also known as Kaminari-sama (雷様), Raiden-sama (雷電様), Narukami (鳴る神), Raikou (雷公), and Kamowakeikazuchi-no-kami is a god of lightning, thunder, and storms in Japanese mythology and the Shinto religion.
4) Gyarados is based on Jörmungandr . In Norse mythology, Jörmungandr (Old Norse: Jǫrmungandr, lit. 'the Vast 'gand'', see Etymology), also known as the Midgard Serpent or World Serpent (Old Norse: Miðgarðsormr), is an unfathomably large sea serpent or worm who dwells in the world sea, encircling the Earth (Midgard) and biting its own tail, an example of an ouroboros.
5) Volcarona is based Death's-head hawkmoth. The name death's-head hawkmoth refers to any of three moth species of the genus Acherontia (Acherontia atropos, Acherontia styx and Acherontia lachesis).
6) Gengar is based on Cheshire Cat. The Cheshire Cat (/ˈtʃɛʃər, -ɪər/ CHESH-ər, -eer) is a fictional cat popularised by Lewis Carroll in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and known for its distinctive mischievous grin.
7) Alice is based on Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
8) Rowdy is based on Thor because one of Thor's names implies loud.

Teambuilding process :

For this week's team comp, I'm using Froslass and Gengar. With its ghost typing and spike, Froslass is a fantastic suicide lead. Gengar is the secondary ghost type since taunt with three attacks are a decent combination against a fat team. Because Volcarona, Mega Gyarados, and Serperior are a tried-and-true core for a hyper-offensive squad, I'm using them as the team's next additions. Because Thundurus-therian offers volt absorb, which may be advantageous over scarf rotom-wash, I have chosen it for the final spot.
