Volcarona solidifies itself as a meta game threat by utilizing it’s speed and set-up moves to increase it’s offensive presence. It has access to strong STAB moves such as Overheat and Bug buzz which can let it KO common threats such as Mega Mawile, Mega Metagross, Mega Sableye, Mega Altaria, Mega Gardevoir, and Mega Slowbro. Volcarona also gains access to coverage moves such as Quiver Dance or Substitute which allow it to set-up or parry foe attacks. Substitute also lets Volcarona to sub into Swarm range, boosting it’s bug type attacks. Quiver Dance and Substitute contribute to beating threats such as non Calm Mind + Snarl Mega Sableye, non Scarf Kyurem-Black lacking bulk, Mega Altaria, Mega Gardevoir, Meloetta, Mega Venusaur, and Mega Gengar. Unfortunately, Volcarona’s typing is lackluster and falls up short to common threats such as Mega Charizard, Heatran, and Greninja. Moreover, while Volcarona does have base 100 stats all around, this still fails to be enough against powerful hitters such as many Kyurem-Back, Mega-Lopunny, or Garchomp.
