Round Four: The Scoop!

:ss/volcarona: :ss/tapu fini:

:master ball: Threats of the Round :master ball:
:gastrodon: With the combination of Sticky Hold and Recover, Gastrodon effectively shuts down this core in 1v1-ing Volcarona and rendering Tapu Fini completely useless. Really darn good submission, congrats!
:clefable: Trick Clefable is able to comfortable sit in front of both of these Pokemon and make them near useless. If Tapu Fini tricks you, it now has a a Sticky Barb, then you can trick Volcarona which hates getting tricked, particularly a Choice Scarf meaning it can't set up. Once again a very solid submission!
:slowking-galar: Glowking comfortably switches into every move the core has except for Trick, which it has to be wary of. It's solid power and bulk let's it handle the core quite well!

:premier ball: Additional Notes :premier ball:

:kartana: Kartana is able to pressure both Tapu Fini and Volcarona with Knock Off, and with Leaf Blade and Aerial Ace respectively. Though it is a bit predicition reliant and you run the risk of Flame Body, it does well in dismantling this duo

:assault vest: :melmetal: Rock Slide Melmetal is actually a super interesting set and based off the calcs it lures Volcarona well and handles Tapu Fini well, so still a good submission!

With that out of the way, onto Round 3!

Round 5: Weavile + Tapu Koko!!

:ss/weavile: :ss/tapu koko:

Tapu Koko @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Electric Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Dazzling Gleam
- U-turn
- Roost

Weavile @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Triple Axel
- Knock Off
- Ice Shard

These two Pokemon have recently risen up to be two top threats in the metagame! This core focuses on letting Weavile get set up oppurtunities via Koko's U-turn and ability to lure in Ground-types for Weavile to set up on, while also both being able to beat down shared checks like Ferrothorn extremely well. You have 5 days to submit, good luck!

Ability: Psychic Surge
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest / Timid Nature (doesn't matter here)

- Moonblast
- Focus Blast
- Psyshock / Future Sight

Choice Scarf Tapu Lele outspeeds both Tapu Koko and Weavile (and Psychic Terrain prevents Ice Shard), and it easily OHKOes Weavile and 2HKOes Tapu Koko, surviving a Thunderbolt fairly well.

252+ SpA Tapu Lele Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tapu Koko: 216-255 (76.8 - 90.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Tapu Koko Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tapu Lele in Electric Terrain: 136-162 (48.3 - 57.6%) -- 94.1% chance to 2HKO
252+ SpA Tapu Lele Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Weavile: 390-458 (138.7 - 162.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Zeraora outspeed this speedy core, which helps it beat them. It needs to get a Bulk Up boost to beat Tapu Koko, but once it does, it's game over for Koko-Weavile. This is because Weavile's Ice Shard does nothing to a boosted Zeraora, and Koko gets 2HKOed by Plasma Fist in Electric Terrain

252 Atk Weavile Ice Shard vs. +1 0 HP / 4 Def Zeraora: 52-63 (16.4 - 19.8%) -- possible 6HKO
+1 252 Atk Zeraora Plasma Fists vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tapu Koko in Electric Terrain: 164-193 (58.3 - 68.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Magnezone @ Leftovers
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 172 HP / 252 Def / 84 SpD
Bold Nature

IVs: 0 Atk
- Iron Defense

- Body Press
- Thunderbolt

- Substitute

Magnezone is a great threat to that core, as it can abuse Tapu Koko as Iron Defense fodder, and it can make use of a boosted Body Press to threaten Weavile. Magnezone can also threaten Weavile from the get go with a super effective Body Press and can check Tapu Koko decently well. Moreover Tapu Kokos Electric Terrain allows Magnezone to have a stronger Thunderbolt itself, therefore it can make use of it as well to pressure more damage on the opposing team. Body Press cleanly gets rid off Weavile, whereas Tapu Koko can be handeled by Magnezone decently well, making Magnezone a threat to both of these pokemon.

Assault Vest Melmetal is possibly the best check to this core, giving it very little room to function offensively and no room defensively since Double Iron Bash threatens to OHKO both and Melmetal takes both of their very comfortably.
252 SpA Tapu Koko Thunderbolt vs. 128 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Melmetal in Electric Terrain: 97-115 (21.8 - 25.9%) -- 4.1% chance to 4HKO

Ferrothorn is an amazing check to Tapu Koko that can also deal with its partner Weavile thanks to its high defense and iron barbs ability, and its strong stab Gyro ball, which hits both really hard because of Ferrothorn's low speed, meaning that it walls them defensively and offensively thanks to its strong Gyro Ball
+2 252+ Atk Weavile Triple Axel (40 BP) (3 hits) vs. 252 HP / 96+ Def Ferrothorn: 273-324 (77.5 - 92%) -- approx. 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

I was about to write either Melmetal or Ferrothorn and in the time I decided to pick Ferrothorn, both got written. FML

I'll take flame body heatran

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 92 Def / 132 SpD / 28 Spe
Sassy Nature
- Magma Storm
- Earth Power
- Taunt
- Heavy Slam

The point of Flame Body Heatran in regards to this core is to use its special bulk to check Tapu Koko once or twice, basically forcing it to Thunderbolt in order to do damage to it. Dazzling Gleam does negative damage and so does U-turn, which can be used against it due to Flame Body. Either way, Heatran can use Tapu Koko to position itself for a chance to make progress.
Flame Body also allows Heatran to punish feisty Weavile going for Triple Axel with high chance of a nasty burn that would end its threat completely. In a pinch, Heatran can sacrifice itself against Weavile's knock off to fish for a clutch parting gift.

As a bonus, the most common offensive partner for this core is CB Urshifu-R, a U-turn and multi-hit move user. Against a x4 bug resistant, flame body heatran. Yes, Heatran dies to anything that's not U-turn, but still has a nasty chance of burning it on predicted U-turn or on a sack.

The spread is for max bulk, 2HKO con phys def clef with heavy slam (which ohkos weavile easily so that you don't have to risk a 75% magma storm), speed for skarmory, defense to avoid the ohko from +2 adamant knock from weavile after rocks and rest in special bulk. With the special defense investment, thunderbolt deals 30.5-36% (4hko with leftovers, 46% 3hko after rocks and leftovers), so if you want to take less damage, you can absolutely put more EVs into special defense by taking them from defense, since the scenario where you try to live a +2 Knock after rocks is very situational.

Volc can check weavile with flame body and roost and a potential ohko in quiver dance, while tapu koko struggles to 2hko it and to 3hko it after terrain is gone. It can both use these as set up fother especially since weavile risks itself getting burned with each consecutive knock off and tapu koko is unable to threaten it with a 2hko outside a crit

252+ Atk Weavile Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Volcarona: 231-273 (61.9 - 73.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Defensive Scizor is a very cool set that I’ve been using a lot recently to check Rillaboom, Kartana, Tapu Lele, Kyurem, and even Tapu Koko and Weavile. With this EV spread, Scizor lives a +2 Adamant Knock Off and Ice Shard from Weavile while maximizing the chance of surviving 2 of Koko’s Thunderbolts and 2 of Kyurem’s Earth Powers. Personally, I like running Superpower since you OHKO Heatran at +2 and non-negative natured Corviknight and Skarmory on the Roost.

Weavile does not want to deal with this unless it has CB psycho cut, which is quite rare imo. The Spdef EV's lets this live one thunderbolt from tapu koko after 3 spikes. Flare Blitz has a small chance to not ohko koko, so any chip is appreciated.

Excadrill @ Choice Scarf / Leftovers
Ability: Mold Breaker / Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Rock Slide / Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rapid Spin

Excadrill's inmunity to Electric-type attacks, as well as resistance to Fairy-type makes him a perfect counter to Tapu Koko, resisting both STAB (Thunderbolt and Dazzling Gleam) and easily OHKOing him with Earthquake. Under sand and thanks to Sand Rush Excadrill's Speed wil be doubled, outspeeding Tapu Koko with ease. Even with Choice Scarf and 252 EVs in Speed, Excadrill will outspeed Tapu Koko and Weavile.

Tapu Koko Thunderbolt vs. Excadrill: 0-0 (0 - 0%) -- possibly the worst move ever
252 SpA Tapu Koko Dazzling Gleam vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Excadrill: 75-88 (20.7 - 24.3%) -- guaranteed 5HKO

252 Atk Mold Breaker Excadrill Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tapu Koko: 386-456 (137.3 - 162.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Excadrill can check Weavile, but fears to enter in Weavile's STAB, so Excadrill can't counter him. With Choice Scarf and max Evs in Speed (453 Speed), Excadrill outspeed Weavile and can OHKO him with Earthquake or Iron Head. Under sand, and with Sand Rush, the result will be the same.

252 Atk Weavile Triple Axel (40 BP) (3 hits) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Excadrill: 279-333 (77.2 - 92.2%) -- approx. 2HKO
252 Atk Weavile Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Excadrill: 225-265 (62.3 - 73.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252 Atk Mold Breaker Excadrill Iron Head vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Weavile: 384-452 (136.6 - 160.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Mold Breaker Excadrill Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Weavile: 238-282 (84.6 - 100.3%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO

As we see, Excadrill can't freely enter vs Weavile, but can check it with ease if he can outspeed him.

:master ball: Threats of the Round :master ball:

:melmetal: Assault Vest helps in being able to cover Tapu Koko which other wise is a pain with your poor Special Defense stat and have the bulk to take on Weavile and can hit both of them hard to remove them, just watch out for Knock Off, very effective none the less.

:heatran: Normally Heatran is a shaky check to Weavile, but given how this has some Defensive investment it does make one for one kick ass threat especially with the usage of Heavy Slam being able to dent to Weavile immediately and you still check Tapu Koko decently, interesting spread but effective against this core.

:magnezone: You use Tapu Koko as setup fodder and then become fat enough where Weavile cannot deal any type of damage to you and delete it with Body Press, very simple but effective core.

:premier ball: Additional Notes :premier ball:
:Volcarona: While Weavile does hate risking getting burned but Volcarona wants to keep Heavy-Duty Boots otherwise it becomes a lot harder for it to switch into the field even if Weavile where to die the trade off in removing Boots on Volcarona is huge which it always wants to keep.

:excadrill:While you do pressure this core as Choice Scarf being locked into a move hurts making it for Defensive Backbone check it while non Choice Scarf is not faster than the core and gets weakened down immensely.

:blaziken: This seems hard to pull off and even then switching into any of them you practically will die in the later turn, however it is interesting and can surprise some people despite how difficult it will be to pull off.

:heatran: is capable of dealing with both, Clefable and Corviknight, due to its impressive typing and its great arsenal of attacks, which gives Heatran teh edge over both Pokemon. It can use Magma Storm on Corviknight and make use of Heavy Slam against Clefable. Taunt is also useful, as it helps with hindering Clefable and Corviknight severely. Both dislike this Heatran a lot and Corviknight cant do much if it is Brave Bird, as only Body Press will help against Heatran to spread out decent damage. In overall Heatran is capable of threatening both Pokemon very well.

I had a choice between this and Thundurus-Therian, and I ultimately chose this due to being faster lol but if your ok with potential 110's the Therian Forme is probably better. Running this instead of it's Therian forme also must have issues since the Therian Forme can have a 37.9% chance to 2HKO Clefable with no boosts and has a 75% chance to OHKO it with a plot boost while this can never 2HKO Clefable with no boosts and can never OHKO it with a plot boost. This is probably the biggest threat both offensively and defensively to the core (just like Melmetal was in the previous round...) since Melmetal takes nothing from Clefable and easily OHKOes it, while 2HKOing Corviknight and taking little damage from it. This set is the most effective one here because it can avoid the Roost mindgames against Corviknight thanks to outspeeding it when it is paralysed, and Protective Pads avoid Rocky Helmet chip, though Choice Band and Acid Armor sets are similarly threatening.

I'll just go with this one. It's simple really. Shadow ball go brrrrr. If Pex isn't backing those two up they're pretty much dead. Clef just hangs on by a hair so any chip on it means it's dead. If Blace gets in against a body press or defog then they're both dead. Alternatively, you can just delete Clef from full with overheat and still have enough power to kill Corv. I prefer modest on this thing to guarantee the two shot against Heatran after rocks

252+ SpA Choice Specs Blacephalon Overheat vs. 252 HP / 56+ SpD Clefable: 364-430 (92.3 - 109.1%) -- 56.3% chance to OHKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Blacephalon Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 56+ SpD Clefable: 225-265 (57.1 - 67.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Blacephalon Flamethrower vs. 252 HP / 56+ SpD Clefable: 253-298 (64.2 - 75.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Blacephalon Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 88 SpD Corviknight: 249-294 (62.2 - 73.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Yeah, this thing gets a free switch it just drops those two
