Stay tuned, next cycle coming soon!

It's time! Since we have already featured every SS OU Pokémon at some time during this project's history, with some also being featured twice already, we figured that it was a good idea to restart from scratch and go through the OU tier once again, especially because for some Pokémon it's been months or even more than a year.
As the new hosts, me and agslash23 are happy to kick things off again with:

Cycle 65 - Dragapult

:ss/dragapult:

It's only fitting that the first Pokémon to ever be featured on this project is the one we're starting with and, since it's been literally 2 years since then and no repeats have happened, we think it's time to revisit one of the posterchildren of SS OU. Dragapult has set Speed standards in this metagame since its inception with its blazing 142 base Speed only beaten by Zeraora's and has been terrorizing offensive teams with its Choice Specs boosted STAB Shadow Ball, one of the single most respected moves in the metagame due to the limited number of good Ghost resists. It has also been a fixture on Dual Screens Hyper Offense with its dangerous Dragon Dance set, which abuses Dragapult's higher 120 base Attack and amazing signature move, Dragon Darts. Throughout the more recent history of SS OU, these are the two most defining Dragapult sets, with Choice Specs especially being called for a suspect test multiple times. Other miscellaneous sets have been used with success, but haven't reached nearly the same heights as these two.

Now it's your turn, shows us your heat Dragapult sets!

The deadline is Thursday, 27h of January. Good luck!

band double edge

:dragapult:

Dragapult @ Choice Band
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Phantom Force
- Dragon Darts
- Double-Edge
- Sucker Punch / U-Turn

we saw this in some tour match i forgot, BUT…. it’s a really cool tech. it’s the typical band pult, and double edge is mainly to snipe tornt on the switch. you actually leave quite a sizeable dent for team mates to take easy abuse of.

Reserving SubDisable WoW Hex

dragapult.gif

Dragapult @ Leftovers
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Substitute
- Disable
- Will-O-Wisp
- Hex

This set utilizes Dragapult's good Speed stat to turn it into an efficient Substitute + Disable user. You can set a Substitute against a slower opponent and Disable the move it used on the next turn, allowing you to beat some Choice users. Will-O-Wisp is used to cripple physical attackers who come in after you've set a Substitute, but also increase the power of your Hex, turning it into a devastating 130 base power Ghost STAB. Leftovers allow you to take advantage of your Substitute turns but also of the turns when your opponent can't attack because you've just used Disable. Overall, this set brings less immediate power than a Choice Specs one but can surprise your opponent who while probably expect a Dragon Dance set when you set your first Substitute, meaning you can catch off-guard things like Corviknight or Melmetal with a Will-O-Wisp burn.

Dual Screens Dragapult
:ss/dragapult:
Dragapult @ Light Clay
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Curse
- U-turn

Dragapult's high speed and access to U-turn makes it a niche but theoretically usable dual screens setter. What differentiates it most from other options is access to Curse, which chips down the opposing team quickly and forces switches.

Weakness Policy
:ss/dragapult:
Dragapult @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 8 HP / 228 Atk / 20 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant/ Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Dragon Darts
- Phantom Force
- Fire Blast

The bulk evs allow you to survive Zeraora's Knock Off after rocks and Koko's Dazzling Gleam from full. Fire Blast was chosen over flamethrower to guarantee the OHKO on 252 HP / 252 SpD Careful Nature Ferrothorn at +2. An Adamant nature was chosen becuase Dragapult outspeeds most relevant threats at +1 without a boosting nature. On teams with screens support, you could use a Lonely(+Atk, -Def) or Naughty(+Atk, -SpD) to improve +2 Fire Blast Damage rolls against Corviknight, as you no longer need you defenses to be as high to survive attacks. Weakness policy lets you get an unexpected boost from surviable supereffective hits, potentially allowing for an easier sweep. Attacks you can survive include Ferrothron's and Toxapex's Knock Off, Clefable's and Tapu Fini's Moonblast, Buzzwole's Ice Punch, and the attacks from the aforementioned electric types.

Dragapult@Heavy duty boots
Ability:Cursed body
252 SpA/4SpD/252 Spe

-Hex
-Thunder Wave
-U turn
-Fire blast/Hydro pump/Thunder/Draco meteor

Thunder wave on switch,u turn out, hit with hex later. I would say thunder is best filler move for fini who otherwise walls this set.Great to pair with something that hates AV torn or heatran, and also something that can abuse a u turn into spdef lando or tapu fini (rip kyurem).

HP Invested DD + Lum

Dragapult @ Lum Berry
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 120 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 132 Spe
Lonely Nature
- Dragon Darts
- Phantom Force
- Flamethrower
- Dragon Dance

This Dragapult spread will hit 353 speed, just above the base 110s unboosted, and also above the common bulky Tornadus-T that's seen these days hitting 352 speed. Attack positive nature pult at the usual 252 Spe only ever ties with Jolly Weavile, which you never want to face unless you're super healthy and already at +1. Lum Berry makes setting up super easy vs Scald hax or things that try to stop you with Thunder Wave/Toxic (Blissey/Heatran/Landorus-T). Flamethrower is picked here over Fire Blast, since Fire Blast doesn't even OHKO full SpDef Ferrothorn or phys def Buzzwole, and in order for it to come close to doing so, you'd have to sacrifice way too much physical power. Lonely + Flamethrower will still 2ko both of the aforementioned mons while hitting every time; important in situations like vs Kartana. 120 HP keeps it at an odd number, and the HP invest makes it increasingly easy to set up on things like Volcarona who are usually very dangerous. It also works to compensate for the defense drop that Lonely has, making it more comfortable in tight situations from full health vs things like a chipped Urshifu-RS. This thing is capable of just massacring teams, being much more secure in its setup opportunities than previous versions of DD pult.

Dragapult @ Chesto Berry
Ability: Cursed Body
EVs: 248 HP / 124 Def / 136 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Substitute
- Rest
- Dragon Dance
- Dragon Darts

"Dragapult's lack of longevity and only serviceable bulk in spite of its solid defensive typing means that damage it sustains is permanent, leaving it susceptible to long-term pressure from status effects, chip damage from resisted hits, and entry hazards in the case of non-Heavy-Duty Boots variants."
Yeah, about that... have you ever tried ChestoRest? ChestoRest takes advantage of Dragapult's solid defensive typing and makes it way tankier than normal.

Overview:
What's this? SUBREST DD?! This isn't Kyurem!
...
No, it's not, but this isn't OU Best Thing. This is OU Next Best Thing.

Dragapult's EV Spread means it outspeeds Scarfed Base 110's after a DD boost, while the rest is invested in HP and Defense.

Notes:
  • Pult needs support to remove opposing Steels and Fairies.
  • You can also run Leftovers over Chesto Berry, but Rest will be harder to use.

Grudge Dragapult :ss/dragapult:

Dragapult @ Life Orb
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naughty Nature
- Grudge
- Dragon Darts
- Phantom Force
- Fire Blast

Here we have an offensive Dragapult with no set-up moves, but with Grudge as a last resort move to cripple an opposing attacker in order to support your teammates.
Grudge forces switches if the target is a Choiced attacker, but also neuters one fourth of the opposite moveset, and this is important because many pokemons run only one or two damaging moves.
