Mamoswine @ Leftovers
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 160 HP / 244 Atk / 104 Spe
Adamant Nature
- High Horsepower
- Icicle Crash
- Toxic
- Protect

Mamoswine is one of the few OU-Viable ground types capable of learning High Horsepower (i.e., neither :landorus_therian: or :garchomp: can), making it an excellent choice on a team trying to take advantage of grassy terrain. This set is maximized to take advantage of grassy terrain, with 160 HP EVs giving 401 HP for bonus leftovers and grassy terrain recovery, and Protect scouting the opponent and maximizing healing. Toxic is great with protect, and allows Mamoswine to weaken bulky waters like Slowbro. The set has enough speed to outrun max speed neutral nature Celesteela and Tyranitar, with the rest going into attack with an Adamant nature.

Cenozoic (Mamoswine) @ Leftovers
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Icicle Crash
- Earthquake
- Ice Shard
- Stealth Rock
I've been testing a similar set on a team of mine and its done ok, so since mamo is the mon of choice, might as well post it. Dual stab in Icicle crash and eq, Ice shard to help deal with setup sweepers like dnite and chomp, and finally rocks since most defogers don't handle mamo very well thanks to its Ice stab.

Mamoswine @ Life Orb
Ability: Thick Fat / Oblivious
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 SpD
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Icicle Crash
- Ice Shard
- Superpower

Because fuck Ferrothorn, that's why.

Adamant EQ into Superpower KOs even 252+ Def Ferro, while Jolly KOs after rocks:

252+ Atk Life Orb Mamoswine Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Ferrothorn: 140-165 (39.7 - 46.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252+ Atk Life Orb Mamoswine Superpower vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Ferrothorn: 224-265 (63.6 - 75.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

252 Atk Life Orb Mamoswine Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Ferrothorn: 126-149 (35.7 - 42.3%) -- 92.1% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 Atk Life Orb Mamoswine Superpower vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Ferrothorn: 205-242 (58.2 - 68.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

:ss/mamoswine:

Mamoswine @ Never-Melt Ice / Leftovers
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Substitute
- Earthquake
- Ice Shard
- Icicle Crash / Icicle Spear

Substitute provides a temporary cushion against damage and status, easing prediction and allowing Mamoswine to stay in longer against some foes.

The item can be changed based on what's expected of Mamoswine. Never-Melt Ice increases its attack power without compromising what little bulk it has, and guarantees that Ice Shard will be able to KO Garchomp, while Leftovers gives Mamoswine passive recovery and more opportunities to use Substitute.

Week 74: Volcanion

:ss/volcanion:

Recently becoming popular because of its giant amount of power and utility it brings to the table, Volcanion recently rose up to OU. With its high-powered STABs it hits very hard, and it has defensive utility in its good natural bulk, Water Absorb, and good typing. It loved the inclusion of Heavy-Duty Boots that were added in SwSh, and it usually uses HDB or Choice Specs. It has some good coverage options in Earth Power and Sludge Bomb/Wave. I can't wait to see what you guys come up with!

Volcanion @ Life Orb :Life Orb:
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Steam Eruption
- Flamethrower
- Earth Power
- Flame Charge

This set is self-explanatory, Life Orb provides a damage boost while Flame Charge makes it faster than some of it's threats.

Volcanion @ Heavy-Duty Boots

Physdef with Will-O-Wisp to really put the hurt into physical attackers. This works as a counter to stuff like offensive DDnite and Bisharp. You can use Toxic, but burn cripples the physical attackers.

Reserving fire spin trapper

Fire Spin Volcanion

:ss/volcanion:

:volcanion:Volcanion @ Heavy-Duty Boots :heavy-duty-boots:
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Flamethrower
- Steam Eruption
- Earth Power
- Fire Spin

Fire Spin helps Volcanion trap and kill bulky waters, helping out other teammates that get walled by them. This is a set I actually use on my OU team. It serves as a valuable wallbreaker that can clear water types for my main offensive core while doing it's usual job as a wallbreaker just as well. Even without sludge wave, it still wins the 1v1 against both calm mind and scarfed fini. It's literally just standard Volcanion but if it could actually take down bulky waters. It's really good when paired with Pokemon like Buzzwole, Landorus, Tyranitar and other Pokemon that would otherwise struggle to get in safely.
