Role: Special wallbreakers basically don't exist right now outside of a handful of Ghosts and Combysa, so Woolefant provides a new option for offensive/balance teams to consider running. Offensive Calm Mind sets are entirely unwallable in the current meta outside of Cradily, making Woolefant extremely strong into bulkier teams, but its bad speed tier and litany of weaknesses leave it easily revenged by faster offensive mons or outpaced by pivot-heavy teams. Tangling Hair, however, does give it an out into certain offensive mons, making Woolefant a solid check to Alticombat and Archeops.
Flavor: We already have one mammoth with Eleffigy, so I wanted to lean hard into the "woolly" aspect of this mon's design in order to differentiate it.

Chi Shift: 60 BP Special Fighting, 15 PP, 100% Acc. Swaps all changes to the target's Attack and Special Attack stats.
Role: I wanted to make another fast Ice without outclassing Salazzle, and this is what I landed on. Felice provides a fast, special attacking Ice type that can threaten the Ice resists Salazzle loses to (Drednaw, Lapras), while losing to the ones it beats (Kabutops, Arctobyss, Cradily, etc.). Felice has much more immediate power than Salazzle, with Technician Frost Breath hitting like a truck, forcing teams to run actual Ice resists to beat it. However, those Ice resists check Felice much better than they answer Salazzle, as Salazzle's combination of Nasty Plot and Freeze-Dry beat pretty much every Felice answer in the meta. This will allow Salazzle and Felice to actually be run on the same team, as they beat each other's counterplay pretty effectively, and Felice's worse matchups into actual Ice resists will stop it from outclassing Salazzle completely despite its better overall damage output.

SLATE 16 - The Beginning of the End (Walking Wake, Gouging Fire, Raging Bolt)
:sv/walking-wake::sv/gouging-fire::sv/raging-bolt:

It's time for the final round of Past Paradoxes! For this slate, we'll be covering the last three Paradox Pokemon, returning them to the state they could have appeared in before being forcibly transported to the present. This will be similar to a fossil rework slate, with everything on the table to be changed, from stats to abilities to moves to typing. There is only one guideline: these Paradox reworks cannot have the ability Protosynthesis. This ability represents the corrupted state they appeared in during the events of Scarlet & Violet and wouldn't exist on an ancient reimagining of the mons. The rules for submission are as follows:
  • You can sub 1 to 3 of the Pokémon chosen in this slate.
  • Make sure to compare your submission to what already exists to help gauge its power and ensure you're not outclassing anything. There has been plenty of playtesting of the current meta, so I highly recommend reading through the assorted metagame discussion posts and getting feedback on your submission in the Discord.
  • Custom Elements are allowed, as long as they have something different from already existing abilities/moves and are relatively simple to code (no custom field effects - we're learning from last gen lol. Also, if you think it's codable but our coder disagrees, then you'd better be prepared to code it yourself if it wins.)
  • Any Pokemon not currently in Generation 9 will instead use its Generation 8 movepool minus dexited moves (aka moves that are unusable in SV).

Name: Combuscobble (Combust + Cobble)

Original Pokemon: Gouging Fire

Typing: Fire/Rock

Abilities: Strong Jaw/Stone Crown
This pokemon's rock type moves use its defense stat instead of attack when calculating damage - like body press

Stats: 74/100/115/76/54/81 (500)

New Moves: Mountain Maw, Rock Slide, Will-O-Wisp, Ice Fang, Jaw Lock, Iron Defense, Bulk Up, Clear Smog
Removed Moves: (all dragon moves except scale shot), Burning Bulwark

85Bp, Rock, Ph, 100Acc, 16PP, Breaks Screens. This move is also from chatbats.

Role: Set-Up sweeper with Bulk Up or Iron Defense + Stone Crown. Fire Rock is an alright typing, ground and water are decently common typings, although it does resist more typings than it's weak to - though the typings it resists aren't as common as the one's it's weak to. It has alright stats, with high defense but kinda low special defense and hp. It's also a kinda middle speed tier, maybe could work pretty good with scarf. Strong jaw lets it deal pretty high damage with STAB mountain maw and fire fang, as well as with coverage like thunder fang, ice fang and psychic fangs. Stone Crown I'm not fully sure is balanced, I think iron defense/bulk up with the ability is fine.

Flavor: The large shield on its head is an extremely durable extension of its rock hard skeleton, and it uses it to ram into its foes - dealing high damage. Its teeth, too, are made of hard rock - which helps it rip and rend prey.

Name: Nimbusaur (Nimbus + Dinosaur)

Original Pokemon: Raging Bolt

Typing: Electric/Flying

Abilities: Cloud Nine/Lightning Rod

Stats: 42/49/95/120/79/115 (500)

New Moves: Furious Thunderhead, Tailwind, Hurricane, Air Slash, Surf
Removed Moves: (all dragon moves), Thunderclap, Earthquake, Heavy Slam, Sunny Day
80Bp, Flying, Sp, 90Acc, 8PP, 30% chance to cause paralysis, upon being used for the second time or more on the same pokemon, becomes electric and deals 1.5x damage.

Role: Glass cannon who can also do a tiny bit of speed control utility with tailwind and t-wave, plus can set up with calm mind I guess.

Flavor: In ancient times it floated around atop grey clouds, and was known to bicker with aerodactyl.

:sv/walking wake:
Name: Pristineuro (Pristine + Neuro)

Original Pokemon: Walking Wake

Typing: Water/Psychic

Abilities: Drizzle/Neuroforce

Stats: 94/100/81/40/90/93 (500)

New Moves: Ice Spinner, Psychic, Psyshock, Calm Mind, Psychic Fangs, Scale Shot, Lunge, Pounce, Wave Crash
Removed Moves: (all fire moves), Breaking Swipe, Dragon Breath, Dragon Pulse, Dragon Cheer, Hydro-Steam, Scald

Role: This pet mod doesn't have many good rain setters (I don't think there's a single mon with drizzle, actually), despite there being some good swift swim mons and a lot of good mons who could work as good rain abusers. After a dragon dance this mon can start firing off powerful psychic fangs and wave crashes.

Flavor: Its mind is extremely large, and it can infuse its psychic strength into its attacks. It can use its psychic strength to harness the weather from the skies themselves, bringing down rain around it.

Name: Spectrumulus (Spectre + Cumulus)
Original Pokemon: Raging Bolt
Typing:
Electric.png
Ghost.png

Abilities: Wind Power | Drizzle
Stats: 118/60/81/110/81/85 (535 BST)

New Moves: Ominous Wind*, Shadow Ball, Shadow Sneak, Hurricane, Air Slash, Will-O-Wisp, Life Dew
Removed Moves: All Dragon moves, Solar Beam, Sunny Day, Weather Ball
Ominous Wind BP increased to 75, PP raised to 16. Secondary effect changed; the move now nullifies the target's ability.

Role: Rain setter/abuser that not only brings that weather into the tier as an option but can also provide spinblocking and pivoting out into its teammates. Its typing however means it is burdened with the Sisyphean task of dealing with Carracosta and the newly introduced Letherium who both block its Volt Switches (although you can attempt to play around Carracosta with the changed Ominous Wind), as well as other checks/counters like Bellibolt and Crobat.
Flavor: Compared to the Raging Bolt found in Area Zero, which used the power of the sun to bolster itself, the true ancient form of Raikou was much more suited for storms. It could control the weather of its surroundings, forcing the area into dark, noisy thunderstorms. It could move as if it was part of the shadows that it formed, making it a difficult opponent to spot within its storms. Any Pokemon unlucky to be caught by Spectrumulus would quickly be zapped, drained of its life force, and blown away by the strong winds it produced. According to legends told in the Johto region, Spectrumulus devolved over time into one of the Pokemon that was revived by Ho-oh after the burning of the Brass Tower, becoming modern-day Raikou which regained some of Spectrumulus' control over electricity.

Original Pokemon: Gouging Fire
Typing:
Fire.png
Flying.png

Abilities: Inner Focus | Tough Claws
Stats: 100/110/92/60/68/105 (535 BST)
*Weight unchanged from regular Gouging Fire

New Moves: Tempest Bash, Bounce, Sky Attack, Air Slash, Defog, Tailwind, Taunt, Agility
Removed Moves: All Dragon moves (including DDance)
85 BP Physical Flying move, 16 PP, 100% accuracy. Ignores the abilities of other Pokemon. Makes contact.

Role: Fire/Flying moreso geared for heavy offense and stallbreaking rather than trying to be Talon/Moltres 2. Still has defensive utility in its typing and some of its moves however.
Flavor: Many are surprised to learn that Entei's true ancient form ruled the skies above volcanoes. It was able to form clouds of smoke to use as platforms, observing the creatures below it from very high in the sky. It was not able to actually fly for very long because of the crest on its head weighing it down, forcing it to simulate flight by constantly creating its smoky platforms. On the rare occasion that it would touch the ground, it was either to surprise unsuspecting prey or to protect others from erupting volcanoes. According to legends told in the Johto region, Cielcendium devolved over time into one of the Pokemon that was revived by Ho-oh after the burning of the Brass Tower, becoming modern-day Entei which lost all flight capabilities but was still blessed with immense fiery power by Ho-oh.

Original Pokemon: Walking Wake
Typing:

Bug.png

Abilities: Swarm | Heatproof
Stats: 61/108/80/108/80/98 (535 BST)

New Moves: Scathing Swarm, Bug Buzz, Quiver Dance, Megahorn, Leech Life, U-turn, Scale Shot, Stomping Tantrum
Removed Moves: All Water moves except Hydro Steam, Flamethrower
110 BP Special Bug move, 8 PP, 100% accuracy. Lowers the user's Special Attack by 1 stage.

Role: Setup sweeper with QD/DD. Both sets have their own pros and cons (with both having access to pretty strong STABs) but are held back by Bug/Dragon being a poor offensive typing and mid coverage. AoA sets are also a possibility with U-turn to pivot out of common resists, as well as potentially being a decent weather abuser with Hydro Steam and Weather Ball access.
Flavor: The abomination. Present-day Suicune is known for purifying water but what many don't realize is that in the ancient past, it wasn't really the picture of purity. Quite the opposite, this mon was a hideous beast whose only relation to water was its ability to create scalding blasts of water using a mix of dragon's breath and the acids it used to break down its prey. Because of this unique ability, Chimeragon could dominate over hot Fire-type infested areas by buzzing around and driving away would-be predators with its Hydro Steams. According to legends told in the Johto region, Chimeragon devolved over time into one of the Pokemon that was revived by Ho-oh after the burning of the Brass Tower, becoming modern-day Suicune which went through a drastic change in appearance. It lost all ties to its insect and draconic past but was blessed with an incredible control over water which it now uses to purify instead of to terrorize.

Abilities: Water Veil / Pressure | Drought
Stats: 94 / 63 / 89 / 115 / 83 / 108 [552 BST]

New Moves: Confusion, Future Sight, Magic Room, Mirror Coat, Mist, Mist Ball, Psybeam, Psychic, Psychic Fangs, Psyshock, Trick, Trick Room, Zen Headbutt
Removed Moves: Aqua Jet, Chilling Water, Hurricane, Hydro Pump, Liquidation, Rain Dance, Surf, Water Pulse, Waterfall, Whirlpool

Role: Now that we have proper defensive Steels, it's time to address the lack of a proper Draco Meteor spammer in the meta. Mistic spams Specs Draco Meteor with abandon, using its Drought-boosted coverage to blow up Dragon resists like Bastiodon and Gourgeist. It also enables Sun as a playstyle, with Flip Turn letting it keep up momentum against bulkier teams and swap into teammates like Hemlophosaur and Combysa, who both help answer Mistic's checks. Its awkward speed tier and poor defensive typing are its main balancing factors, as they lead to it being easily revenge killed, and it also can't really break through Carracosta or Drednaw without team support.
Flavor: Mistic could use its psychic powers to draw moisture out of the air. It would use this while hunting to wear out fleeing prey quicker, then it would blast them with the scalding water it had stored up to finish them off.

Typing:
Rock.png
Dragon.png

Abilities: Anger Point / Flash Fire | Explosive
Stats: 105 / 115 / 121 / 64 / 93 / 92 [590 BST]
Explosive: This Pokemon ignores the Attack drop from Burn. If it is Burned, its attacks do an additional 1/8 of the opponent's max HP in chip and cure the user's Burn.
New Moves: Mighty Cleave, Rock Blast, Rock Slide, Rock Tomb, Swords Dance
Removed Moves:

Role: Dragon Dance breaker with higher base Speed than Tyrantrum, as well as a weaker form of Guts so it isn't weak to Burn but also doesn't just perma-run Flame Orb. Rock/Dragon are pretty difficult STABs to switch into in the current meta, and keeping the Fire moves from its base form lets it still threaten Armaldo on the switch. Can also run SD + Scale Shot sets with Loaded Dice if you want more power than DD sets can provide.
Flavor: An extremely angry dinosaur. When its temper flared, it would run through the mountains while launching flaming rocks from its body with abandon, scorching the land for miles.

Stats: 100 / 73 / 91 / 127 / 79 / 69 [539 BST]

New Moves: Air Slash, Gust, Hurricane, Rain Dance, Tailwind
Removed Moves: Calm Mind

Role: PLEASE JUST LET ME HAVE MY RAIN. Offensive Electric tank that self-abuses Drizzle but finds itself gigawalled by Carracosta. On non-Rain teams you can run Mold Breaker to be the most consistent Volt Switcher in the meta aside from maybe Magnestone, meanwhile on Rain you just suck it up and click buttons with Swishivish. Also this always loses to Bellibolt and Meganium. Muy epico!
Flavor: Something something storm dinosaur

New Moves: All punch moves, Volt Tackle, Close Combat, High Horsepower

Removed Moves: All dragon type moves, Sunny Day

Role: Fast, powerful physical disruption with sub-par defenses. I’m also sort of treating these as the true, strongest forms of the paradox Pokemon, so it outdoes raging bolt in BST and switches its role.

Stats: 150/170/110/60/100/40

Purifying Ash: All fire type moves have a 20% chance to lower all of the target’s raised stats by 2, capping at neutral.

New Moves: Play Rough, Spirit Break, Dazzling Gleam, Sacred Fire, Crunch, Stone Edge, Iron Head
Removed Moves: All dragon type moves, Flame Charge, Sunny Day

Role: Slow, powerful, bulky sweeper who thrives in Trick Room.
Flavor: Instead of Lugia, this past version of Entei was created by Raquaza to quell fury as it quelled the weather.

Name: Nimbustrike (Nimbus + Strike, as in to hit something but also as in a strike of lightning.)

Original Pokemon: Raging Bolt

Typing: Electric/Fighting

Abilities: Thunder strike/Primordial Sea

Stats: 135 HP/159 Atk/91 Def/70 Sp Atk/60 Sp Def/135 Spe

Thunder Strike: All electric type and fighting type moves gain a chance to flinch (30%, like if they could hold three king’s rocks at once.)

Flavor: Instead of Lugia, this past version of Raikou was created by Kyogre to bring thunder to its rains.
You know what move this one needs. https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Arm_Thrust_(move)

Original Pokemon: Walking Wake
Typing: Water/Fire
Abilities: Chilling Wave/Desolate Land
Stats: 95/85/70/175/70/155

Chilling Wave: All ice type moves gain STAB. Water type moves can become ice type if ice moves would be more effective. Water is prioritized over ice, and the type is chosen before any state changes.

New Moves: Ice Beam, Blizzard, Fire Blast, Mystical Fire, Weather Ball, Heat Wave, Chilling Water
Removed Moves: Breaking Swipe, Outrage, Draco Meteor

(Note: Hydro Steam will need to be changed to ignore Desolate Land.)

Role: Fast, powerful physical disruption with sub-par defenses.
Flavor: Instead of Lugia, this past version of Suicune was created by Groundon to bring the steam that took the water from the earth.

:raging-bolt: This is far too offensively potent for the meta. 159 Attack is ridiculously high, especially when paired with 135 Speed (making this the fastest mon in the meta) and STABs as explosive as Volt Tackle and Close Combat. Additionally, Thunder Strike is vetoed wholesale - flinch is an uncompetitive mechanic, and I refuse to allow such an optimized flinch spammer into the meta. This mon's offenses need to be lowered drastically and the custom ability needs to be reworked entirely. Additionally, you can't just say "all punch moves" in your submission's added moves - it gives me a ton of extra work as the coder because I'm forced to go and look up all of the punch moves (and to wonder if you meant to include moves like Rage Fist). Please list exactly which punch moves you want the mon to learn.

:walking-wake: Similar to Nimbustrike, this mon's offenses are way too high. 175/155 is nearly double most of the meta special attackers' offenses, and that's without even mentioning the absurd base power of Desolate Land-boosted STABs. Desolate Land will likely always be broken on a Water/Fire type with Hydro Steam, so I recommend removing it entirely and focusing on your custom ability, along with lowering the offenses drastically.

:gouging-fire: Similar to the other two, this mon's stats are just way too high. 170 Attack is about 50 points higher than even the strongest physical attackers in the meta, and 150/110/100 bulk is just far too much on a Fire/Fairy type with reliable recovery. Additionally, this part isn't a veto, but Purifying Ash is very undertuned as an ability and will likely not be run over Delta Stream, which makes me question if it's even necessary to have the custom at all.

Overall, I highly recommend looking at the preexisting winners when making your submissions, as it seems clear to me that you did not use existing options as a baseline when making these mons. Additionally, I recommend joining the Discord once you've made changes to your submissions, as the changes requested were very extensive and it'll be easier to communicate about them through Discord than on the thread.

Wait I can still submit!

They said Raptors are the closest relatives to the birds...
Name: Dromeopard (Dromaeosaur + Leopard)
Original Pokemon: Walking Wake
Typing:
Dragon.png
Psychic.png

Abilities: Pressure / Water Absorb | HA: Storm Stalker
Stats: 99 HP / 77 Atk / 87 Def / 117 SpA / 71 SpD / 109 Spe [560 BST]

New Moves: Air Slash, Acrobatics, Air Cutter, Aerial Ace, Roost, Feather Dance, Tailwind, Defog, Taunt, Aero Burst*, Thunderbolt, Meteor Beam
Removed Moves: Flip Turn, Hydro Pump, Chilling Water, Aqua Jet, Waterfall, Surf, Liquidation, Water Pulse, Whirlpool, Scald

Custom Effects:
Aero Burst - 80 BP | Special | 10 PP | 100% Acc | Lowers target's Special Defense by 1 stage if used while harsh sunlight is active.

Storm Stalker - Under the effects of Rain, this Pokémon's Water, Flying and Electric moves deal ×1.2 damage. (Bro 1.3 is too nuts)

Role: Fast and powerful multi weather abuser! Dromeopard enters as a fast Dragon type wallbreaker with powerful Flying type secondary STAB and access to respectful coverage that allows it to punch holes in a lot of standard defensive cores. Like Walking Wake of old, Dromeopard is a Mon built to abuse one Weather but has the means to abuse another, in this case it's a Rain sweeper that can be ran on Sun with its two signature moves benefiting. Make no mistake though, Dromeopard primarily breaks Pokémon with its high BP STABs, particularly Hurricane which gets boosted in rain thanks to its signature ability Storm Stalker, making it much harder to switch into.

Typing:

Psychic.png

Abilities: Pressure / Inner Focus | HA: Blistering Rage
Stats: 109 / 105 / 115 / 87 / 51 / 91 [560 BST]

New Moves: Flash Cannon, Stealth Rock, Swords Dance, Will-O-Wisp, Gyro Ball, Heavy Slam, Hard Press, Steel Beam, Metal Burst, Metal Claw, Iron Defense, Meteor Beam
Removed Moves: Draco Meteor, Dragon Pulse, Dragon Cheer, Dragon Claw, Dragon Rush, Outrage, Scale Shot, Breaking Swipe, Dragon Dance

Custom Effects:
Blistering Rage - While this Pokémon is confused, it's Attack is raised by 1 stage at the end of the turn. Immune to self inflicted confusion damage (but not the turn skip).

Ceraleo is a powerful tank with very high physical defense, held in check by it's abysmally low SpD. Still, it's defensive typing let's it switch into many threats and reliable recovery will always be useful for it. Swords Dance also helps keep it as a potential offensive threat as well, as Heat Crash and Heavy Slam are both very powerful moves.

Abilities: Pressure / Volt Absorb | HA: Defiant
Stats: 139 / 113 / 73 / 107 / 69 / 59 [560 BST]

New Moves: Close Combat, Superpower, Heat Crash, Boomburst, Focus Blast, Aura Sphere, Bulk Up, Seismic Toss, Vacuum Wave, Iron Defense, Meteor Beam
Removed Moves: Draco Meteor, Calm Mind, Outrage, Dragon Cheer, Dragon Tail, Breaking Swipe, Dragon Hammer

Custom Effects:
Thunderclap - 75 BP | Physical | 8 PP | Sound Based | +1 Priority | 100% Acc | Move fails if target used a status move this turn.

Role: I played the game, and realized that my favourite Pokemon to use (that Ground/Ghost) has very little reason to be seriously ran in comparison to other Electric checks. I also noted that, if you don't have a scarfer, revenge killing alot of prominent Pokémon is a pain. This right here, is the solution. Brontotigre introduces the classic bulky Bulk Up user to our esteemed metagame, with two fun signature moves to compensate for not having a signature ability like it's two friends. Thunderclap is the existing signature reworked to being physical, to better reflect it's status as a physically inclined Pokemon.

Alright, the veto period has ended, so it is now time for voting to begin! SilverSong1414's submissions remain vetoed, while all other submissions may be voted for. The voting rules are as follows:
  • Each Pokémon will be voted for separately.
  • There is no limit on the amount of submissions you can vote for. First Place will count for 3 points, Second Place for 2, and all others will count for 1 point. If you only vote for two submissions in a category, First Place will count for 2 points and Second Place will count for 1 point. If you only vote for one submission in a category, that vote will only count for 1 point.
