Palossand

[OVERVIEW]

  • Palossand makes a case for its viability in RU thanks to its unique niche in a part Ghost-typing. It allows for Palossand to be a Stealth Rock user that patches up poor matchups agaisnt Fighting-types like Toxicroak, Machamp, and Hariyama.
  • Palossand still provides the benefits of other Ground-types by offering the coveted Electric-immunity alongside solid defensive stats, allowing it to still check Tyrantrum.
  • Palossand's access to reliable recovery is the cherry on top as it can consistently check the aforementioned threats with less of a risk of being weakened down.
  • However, Palossand is quite passive compared to its competition, and therefore making it far more prone to being set up on by the likes of Necrozma, Bewear, and Escavalier.
  • Palossand also loses to common hazard removal like Mandibuzz and Noivern for instance due to its lack of supereffective moves that competition like Nidoqueen and Rhyperior carry to discourage them from removing hazards.
  • So while Palossand does sport a unique niche of firmly countering most Fighting-types, it's at the cost of far weaker matchups against the tier's most common hazard removal, making Palossand less reliable at keeping down Stealth Rock.

Moves
========

  • Shadow Ball is here to allow Palossand to deal with Psychic-types like Gardevoir, Necrozma, Slowbro, and Bronzong who most would care less about Palossand otherwise. It also can possibly surprise an unsuspecting Mismagius and be a safer option against Shuca Berry Metagross.
  • Toxic can fit into this slot as well to place Palossand's Fighting-type victims on a timer, and hindering their effectiveness. It can also target Mandibuzz and Noivern as that's Palossand's only reliable way of handling these Pokemon.
  • Shore Up is a relatively standard recovery move with its only interesting specialty being able to exploit the rare Gigalith's Sand Stream.
Set Details
========

  • Water Compaction can save Palossand from a non Choice Band Golisopod and let it defeat it with its new Defense boosts given to it.
Usage Tips
========

  • Palossand gets the best opportunities to lay down Stealth Rock against the Fighting-types that it consistently walls such as Machamp and Hariyama.

Other Options
=============

  • A Colbur Berry halts any Toxicroak trying to power through Palossand with a Black Hole Eclipse while weakening Pursuit, but most Pursuit trappers barely harm Palossand and this item doesn't see much use outside of stopping this uncommon item from Toxicroak.
  • A Passho Berry lets Palossand defeat Barbaracle while also acquiring a Defense boost against other offensive Water-types like Golisopod
