Introductions
Hello there, I am huge sun enthusiast. After peaking top 3 on the ladder with my other account with a greedy Ninetales sun team, I have decided to go a little easy and try out some of my other ideas for a sun team on my alt account for low ladder stuff. I took a look at some of my old sun teams and decided to modify one team I got reqs with on the GF suspect. One thing that I needed for this team was a bulky ground type pivot that gives a safe entry point to breakers and handles the current popular special attackers. I also didnt have a knock-off user on my team, so when I scrolled through the list of mons, I took a look at pert and said....wait a minute, this guy actually has it all.
Proof of peak
Now on to the team:
Torkoal @ Heat Rock
Ability: Drought
Tera Type: Flying
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Lava Plume
- Rapid Spin
- Clear Smog
- Stealth Rock
The main sun setter. I opted to make it specially defensive so it is better against a variety of threats that it will probably have to come in on. Tork can still take physical attacks well while also also checking fairy types better. Lava Plume, Rapid Spin and SR are standard. Clear smog is for buying you time against setup sweepers and other bulky, stored power mons like Clef. You really need that otherwise this mons just becomes a setup fodder to a lot of things(He still is if the opponent has a sub user).
Gouging Fire @ Choice Band
Ability: Protosynthesis
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Heat Crash/Flare Blitz
- Outrage
- Raging Fury
- Earthquake
The breaker of this team. Guy can literally 1HKO Tusk that isn't defense invested, Lando, Glis and even 2 shot Garg and Dozo. Against bulkier teams, this is the guy you want out the most. That said, as mindless as this mon seems at first, you actually have to think 2 turns ahead. Sometimes you preemptively tera and raging fury so mons like Dragapult cannot revenge you but this mon is an absolute trade machine. If you wanna run Flare Blitz over Heat Crash, be my guest. It is more consistent afterall but it will also cut into your bulk which it really needs.
Walking Wake @ Choice Specs
Ability: Protosynthesis
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 8 HP / 244 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hydro Steam
- Flip Turn/Dragon Pulse
- Draco Meteor
- Flamethrower
The 2nd breaker of the team. Really good against offense since it outspeeds everything unboosted under the sun and nothing can take it's specs attacks. Wake can also take care of the rest after Gouging Fire has put a toll on your opponent's water/fire resist. Flip Turn is there just for Blissey or a tera water Glowking to get in a more appropriate answer(Gouge). D-Pulse is also a good alternative in case you find D-Meteor unreliable but still need the Dragon stab. Not much else to say. WW is also good against Zama under the sun. Against more offensive teams, this is the mon I usually tera.
Swampert @ Assault Vest
Ability: Torrent
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 240 HP / 44 Atk / 224 SpD
Careful Nature
- Flip Turn
- Earthquake
- Knock Off
- Avalanche/Counter
Now for the weird part. As I have said in the intro, I was looking at some of my old sun teams I have created and wondered if I could still make it work currently. Originally there was a Mamoswine on this team. But since then, I noticed that this team really needs a pivot to give my main breakers a safe entry point, preferably a "ground"type that can handle special attacks decently(since the current climate is special attack overload). A glue mon, you could say. I also didnt have a knocker on the team so this guy fit in perfectly. Handles Moth, Dragapult, Darkrai, Deo, Slowking, Gliscor, all mons that can give sun teams a headache. EQ, Flip and Knock are standard on this set. Counter and Tera fairy is for when some mons like Zama, Gambit or Dragonite might get out of hand. Avalanche is more consistent against Moon and Glis though so it is up to you.
Dragonite @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Multiscale
Tera Type: Normal
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Encore
- Extreme Speed
- Dragon Dance
Back then, I was absolutely tired of Gambit sucker punch mindgames. So I wanted to add a mon that can bypass that, preferably a flying type to give sun team a ground immunity and here she is, old reliable Dragonite. ExtremeSpeed Nite is also a great anti offense mon and provides valuable priority for this team. This set IS walled by balloon Ghold but seriously you have 4 other mons that 1vs1 Ghold, it is not the end of the world. Encore is obviously for the variety of setup sweepers that use the likes of Tork or even Wake after Draco for opportunities to get going. Again, incredible anti offense mon, love her to death.
Hatterene @ Eject Button
Ability: Magic Bounce
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 248 HP / 208 Def / 52 Spe
Bold Nature
- Nuzzle
- Healing Wish
- Draining Kiss
- Psychic Noise
Everyone is familiar with this mon on sun. Anti-Hazard, Dragon Immunity, safe pivot for the breaker(once), healing wish support and someone who can actually pressure Garg and Glis. Absolutely fantastic mon on sun. Can also paralyze mons like Gambit or Ghold on switch in and can even take a hit from Moon and Tusk. Speed EVs is for min speed garg so you can always noise pressure it, so it can't recover. Tera Steel is for when Kyurem gets out of hand.

Honestly, I didn't expect to go this far with the team. I originally didn't plan to do an rmt even after top 3ing with my other sun team. Just casually laddered with my alt and then noticed"wait a minute, aren't I kinda high up on the ladder? Maybe I can take it higher" I thought. But then because I "actually" wanted to go higher, a couple of hax and bad decisions caused me to tilt down again. Honestly, still proud that I managed to go this far with this team and I honestly feel like I could have gone higher if I just took a break or just not be such a fucking tilter. Since Pert has barely seen OU usage on S/V, I just thought "whynaut" make this thread?
Also sorry to everyone that wrote me HF messages for not writing hf back. I have opponents and spectators ignored so their msgs don't affect me. Whenever I made plays my opponents didn't understand or I brought an unusual team, some of them became really toxic. Like that one guy where I tera ghosted my Iron Moth on his Dragonite telling me he would destroy me or another 1600-1700 guy telling me I should ladder with a "real"team, lol.
Threat List:
Yeah, this guy pressures the fuck out of you. You usually have ways to prevent hazards through Hatt sack and/or offensive pressure. This guy doesn't care and gets up spikes comfortably. You sometimes have to play with Hazards up and deal with it. But if you see him, try to kill him fast cause Tork will be pressured a lot otherwise.
If it tera waters, it basically resists and walls both of your main breakers. That said, if you tera Gouge, he 2HKOs the most common Garg sets. Also, try to pressure it with Hatt and put it in range for your breakers.
We do have the tools to beat it but it will ususally cause massive damage. Try to chip it for Dragonite to finish it off. Hatt can also take a hit and Pert too if you tera on Knock. Dont play passive against this mon but it is otherwise handable.
Water absorber + Fairy are REALLY annoying. They will force a read out of you and those 2 are also a real pain to switch into. Swampert handles Volcanion temporarily but Ogerpon-W will hit your team really hard. You will sometimes have to switch in Tork too just to weaken the water move and then pivot into one of your dragons. But beyond getting the right reads there is nothing else you can do.

Note: I am not pretending like Pert is this super special overlooked mon that is secretly top tier. As you can see, there are some games where pert just gets sacked and that is that. There are also some games where Pert puts in work. Still, with so many ppl here peaking with stuff like Komala stall, Probopass, Bellibolt, full UU team ect....I feel like my horizons have been expanded and I told myself not to be so close minded to new possibilities.
