What’s up BW. I am here to showcase a team that I have had great success with, and I got 1600 elo for the first time on ladder with it, and I figured after my UCL game I would showcase it since Conk and Volcarona are very cool mons to use since they only need one free turn to end games and combined with some support mons it can be really easy for them to snowball into an unstoppable force.

Here is proof it was me that laddered

There is a tiny bit of ladder decay that has gotten to my account but that’s why I have the above screenshot to prove it.
Teambuilding Process

This team started as an attempt to cook a HO with volcarona, I asked my buddy Chomp29 for a Modest LO set and he cooked, this guy only needs one turn of setup to start posing a threat to most teams.

Starmie is an excellent partner for Volcarona as it can not only provide spin for volcarona which gets heavily weakened by rocks, but it’s firepower with Hydro Pump, Thunder, and Ice beam can often break down spikes stack cores such as Skarm Jelli and Smurf with Garchomp. It’s job is to spin, threaten something out, then let those checks get Volc or Conk in for free.

Scizor is a staple on these hyper offense teams as it can provide a steel type to rank strong outrages as well as an excellent trapper for Latios and Reuniclus, both of which can threaten the team out, I will touch on that when I get to the set. But with bullet punch allowing priority to revenge kill fast threats, it isn’t surprising to see it on this team.

Conkeldurr is here because it functions quite well as a burn absorber plus it’s ability to come in on a lot of common Pokémon such as Tyranitar and Rotom, with a Latios, Starmie, and Volcarona, these can be tasty bait for tyranitar to come in, as it gives Conk a free turn. Chomp29 once again cooked with the spread, which I will go over later.

Latios is the speedy dragon on this team, being able to fire off Draco meteors into a lot of fast dragons, as well as providing a Keldeo check which is super important for the team to not get run over by rain teams.

Lastly, I needed a rocker on this team, and I was looking through the options and garchomp fit the bill more than any other. It can set up rocks, fire off attacks, and then die, giving momentum for the rest of the team. It also gives me an electric immunity, which is very nice against Thundurus.

The Team:
:bw/garchomp:

Garchomp @ Life Orb
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Fire Blast
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
Garchomp is the rocker on this team, I often lead it against a lot of teams and it does its job very well. I decided to go with a mixed set as the suprise factor is really nice for denying hazards against Landorus and Ferrothorn, both of which are able to set stealth rock or spikes. You may be thinking that with a conk + volcarona and multiple other Pokémon that can chip it down that I might not need fire blast here but it comes in handy vs a lot of teams, and it can start the team off 5-5 with rocks up and hazards denied, and this team can succeed very well in that position. Chomp29 originally put mild nature here so that garchomp would be able to net kos on lando, Rotom and ferrothorn, but we both came to the conclusion that without focus sash, you really want that speed to be able to get rocks up or nail something with a EQ/ Draco meteor instead of getting KOed before you can set them up.

:bw/volcarona:
Volcarona @ Life Orb
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 96 Def / 252 SpA / 160 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Quiver Dance
- Fire Blast
- Bug Buzz
- Giga Drain
Modest LOrb Volcarona is super underrated, as it is a set that can punch holes into the opposing team, and even one free turn can allow it to lock down endgames. The speed evs outspeed adamant max speed Excadrill, and the defense EVs are so that you can take physical priority moves like Scizor bullet punch or Breloom Mach punch way easier. Fire blast with life orb can ohko Max spdef Gliscor after a +1, and Bug buzz can OHKO standard ttar at +1, something that is very hard to accomplish. Giga drain helps in the rain MU, and can heal health lost from life orb recoil. Volcarona can get in from momentum from a sac or on a Pokémon such as Ferrothorn that doesn’t have T Wave.

:bw/starmie:
Starmie @ Air Balloon
Ability: Analytic
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hydro Pump
- Thunder
- Ice Beam
- Rapid Spin
Starmie provides spin and its movepool is very nice for covering rain teams and Spikes stack. I lead this versus Skarm Jelli teams as Ice beam into thunder always KOs Custap skarm, and thunder is the preferred move slot over Thunderbolt to hit Jellicent harder, which is something very important for this team as once Rocks + Spikes are up, it is much harder for this team to function with jellicent blocking spin. Hydro pump does great damage into Excadrill and can chip down tyranitar looking to trap starmie once it has spun hazards away. The bread and butter of the team for sure.

:bw/scizor:
Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 88 HP / 212 Atk / 152 SpD / 56 Spe
Adamant Nature
- U-turn
- Superpower
- Pursuit
- Bullet Punch
Scizor traps latios and the other psychics, and Choice band bullet punch OHKOs LO 88 defense Alakazam from full. The speed EVs allow you to get the jump on base 70s like skarmory and politoed, and you outspeed slow breloom with 8 EVs in speed. The Spdef allows you to better take Draco meteors from Latios, notably, you live 2 choice specs Draco meteors from latios, one from +0 and one from -2. You can also take one focus blast from alakazam and trap it with a slow U Turn, which gives momentum. I like to U Turn on latios as it catches the swap and if it chooses to stay in, I can kill it and get in something else. The speed outspeeds all 70 base speed Pokémon such as Breloom and Politoed, the rest is put into hp and attack, this mon is the backbone of the defensive core in this team.

:bw/conkeldurr:
Conkeldurr @ Leftovers
Ability: Guts
EVs: 192 HP / 64 Atk / 252 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Bulk Up
- Drain Punch
- Mach Punch
- Payback
Oh boy, lemme tell you about this mon. Conkeldurr allows for a switch in to status, and you can switch into ferro and ttar. Conk excels in being one of the few mons to be able to trade with almost every mon in the tier, this guy performs excellently at that role. The spdef EVs are for special attackers such as Keldeo and latios. You live 2 starmie Hydro pumps and always live one choice specs Latios Draco meteor from full. With guts, even a single bulk up can be devastating, and a plus one guts boosted conk can 2HKO Tentacruel and latios. It can also do 80% to Keldeo with MACH PUNCH. This mon is super broken, there are so many more calcs I could show but I don’t remember them all, Drain punch into Mach punch keeps help up against the faster Pokémon and because of both the boosts and conk being slower than most Pokémon, it can keep health up while doing massive damage to a team. Whenever he gets set up, he often gets a 2 for 1 or even wins on the spot.

:bw/latios:
Latios (M) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Dragon Pulse/Another coverage move
- Surf
- Trick
Latios is both a Keldeo check and the scarfer on the team, the speed control it gives is super important when going up against rain teams or scarf dragon types. Draco meteor is good damage vs most targets and surf hits Excadrill and other steel types. Nothing much to see here, just your standard bread and butter scarf latios team, and it does well at the role it is doing. You can swap dragon pulse out for another coverage move such as Psyshock or even something like Recover, but dragon pulse has saved me in situations where I can just spam it and win without much trouble, it’s up to personal preference though.

Other Options:

1731946047134.gif
Mixed -> Outrage SD Rocks Sash
This can be an option if you want to be able to lay rocks down more reliably, and this set performs well on pretty much any hyper offense, but you do lose some suprise factor and you have to play differently when facing a forretress or a Ferrothorn or a landorus, etc.

1731940933190.gif
Choice Band -> Life Orb SD
This set is more focused on scizor being an actual set up sweeper rather than a defensive piece, both sets are good but I personally prefer being able to tank hits, once again up to personal preference.

Shoutouts to Chomp29 for helping me cook the team and sk8head for helping test the team out
