[SET COMMENTS]
Swampert is one of the best special walls and pivots in the AAA metagame courtesy of its great movepool, solid bulk, and absolute godsend of a typing that all together gives it a good matchup into top threats like Gholdengo, Zapdos, and Deoxys-S. Knock Off is an important tool in Swampert's arsenal, allowing it to punish counters like Corviknight and RegenVest Manaphy, as well as removing crucial items like Moltres's Heavy-Duty Boots, Great Tusk's Leftovers, and opposing Swampert's Assault Vest. When partnered with Ceruledge, Knock Off can be forgone for additional utility with moves like Poison Jab or Smack Down. Stone Edge OHKOes Volcarona and is Swampert's strongest move against Moltres and Zapdos, potentially even OHKOing offensive variants of the former. Mirror Coat is an alternative to Stone Edge that can pick up surprise KOes on foes like Latios and Choice Specs Primarina. Assault Vest and Regenerator provide Swampert with immense longevity in the face of incredibly powerful special attacks. Minimum Speed IVs with a Sassy nature best enables Swampert to use Flip Turn after opposing pivots like Corviknight and at worst speed tying Primarina and opposing Swampert

Swampert's defensive capabilities and relative lack of passivity make it a mainstay on all types of balance and bulky offense teams. Corviknight loves having Swampert as a partner that covers both its Fire- and Electric-type weaknesses, while also handling powerful special attackers like Gholdengo; in exchange Corviknight can remove entry hazards with Defog and check strong physical attackers like Roaring Moon, Zamazenta, and Meowscarada that seek to take advantage of Swampert's presence. On more offensive teams, Great Tusk&msash;especially Fluffy variants—can fulfill a similar role to Corviknight, as a blanket check to physical threats that can remove entry hazards with Rapid Spin. Zapdos is another synergistic partner for Swampert as it threatens Corviknight and Manaphy, and can assist Swampert in handling Fire-types like Iron Moth, Moltres, and Heatran who frequently carry Grass-type coverage for Swampert. Powerful wallbreakers like Choice Band Roaring Moon, Ceruledge, and Deoxys-S all appreciate Swampert safely pivoting them in with Flip Turn.

Swampert can run a wide variety of moves depending on the needs of its team. Surf can be used to do major damage to Great Tusk and apply some additional pressure onto Corviknight and Skarmory. Counter can be used in a similar vein to Mirror Coat, but Swampert's much lower physical bulk means that there are less attacks that it is comfortable staying in on to Counter. Stealth Rock can be used on teams that cannot fit it otherwise, as Swampert's tendecy to have its Assault Vest removed by Knock Off or Trick means that it can use the move more often than one might think, but the conditional nature of the move and loss of a different move means that it is very specific. Poison Jab can fish for a Poison on Manaphy or Scream Tail, and Smack Down allows Swampert to threaten Corviknight, Zapdos, Levitate Gholdengo, and Skarmory with Earthquake.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Manaphy**: Regenerator Manaphy can comfortably take any move that Swampert can throw at it and respond by removing its Assault Vest or threatening it with a burn from Scald, although it doesn't appreciate its own Assault Vest being removed.

**Corviknight and Skarmory**: Swampert is unable to hit either Corviknight or Skarmory for meaningful damage, allowing them to heal or use either Defog or Spikes, respectively.

**Grass-type Move Users**: A crippling quadruple weakness to Grass-type moves means that Meowscarada and the Ogerpon formes terrify Swampert, while Pokemon like Iron Moth, Heatran, Deoxys-S, or Moltres can tech for Swampert and do massive damage to it.
