- Dig with Groundium Z allows Greninja to OHKO threats such as Toxapex, Heatran, and Magearna, and is also a strong move to use against neutral foes.
- Spikes allows Greninja to wear down its checks, but U-turn is also a valid option to maintain momentum against them.

- Groundium Z turns Dig into Tectonic Rage, amplifying Greninja's ability as a wallbreaker by giving it coverage it needs to break through typical checks.

- With this set, Greninja can effectively bluff a different Z-Move or item, allowing it to lure in and OHKO threats such as Toxapex and Magearna later into the match.
- It's best to get Greninja in to wallbreak by aggressively double switching or via VoltTurn, as it can't switch into most non-resisted attacks.
- Greninja has the capability to force a lot of switches, meaning it will get usually get several opportunities in a match to set up Spikes against Pokemon such as Tornadus-T, Landorus-T, and Garchomp as they switch out.
