Moves

Flare Blitz is Ponyta's most powerful STAB option and hits everything that doesn't resist it for good damage, notably hitting Pokemon like Foongus very hard. High Horsepower is helpful for hitting Pokemon resistant to Flare Blitz, such as Onix and Mareanie. Will-O-Wisp is useful for halving the Attack of physical attackers such as Mienfoo and Mudbray, and Morning Sun is reliable recovery that allows Ponyta to sustain itself throughout a match as well as fish for Flame Body burns if it is not running Will-O-Wisp. Flame Charge is an option that provides Ponyta with an important boost in Speed, which allows it to outpace and KO non-Choice Scarf Diglett. Wild Charge is an option if Ponyta needs to be able to hit Vullaby and Staryu for more damage, but Ponyta struggles to find space for the move.

Set Details
========

196 Speed EVs and a Jolly nature allow Ponyta to hit 19 Speed and outpace most of the unboosted metagame. 156 Defense EVs, 76 Special Defense EVs, and an Eviolite allow Ponyta to hit 21 / 21 defenses and usually avoid notable 2HKOs from powerful attacks like Alolan Grimer's Poison Jab, Pawniard's Knock Off, and defensive Vullaby's Brave Bird. An even bulkier spread of 236 Def / 76 SpD / 196 Spe with an Impish nature and Eviolite can be run to survive the metagame's strongest attacks, such as Reckless Mienfoo's High Jump Kick and Adamant Pawniard's Knock Off, but in return Ponyta no longer outspeeds Gastly and Doduo and cannot Speed tie with Abra and opposing Ponyta. Berry Juice is an alternative item that gives automatic recovery when Ponyta drops below 50% of its HP so that it can run a move other than Morning Sun, but this comes at the cost of a significant amount of bulk. The remaining EVs are invested in Attack to provide Ponyta with notably better damage output, allowing it to 2HKO defensive Mienfoo and have a good chance to OHKO Foongus after Stealth Rock damage. Flame Body is the preferred ability, as it allows Ponyta to discourage foes like Mienfoo from freely using moves like U-turn and Fake Out by threatening to burn them on contact.

Usage Tips
========

Ponyta's Flame Body gives it the ability to check a number of physical attackers, which means one should feel free to liberally switch Ponyta into non-Rock- or Ground-type physical attacks. If Ponyta doesn't burn its foe upon switching in, it can make use of its good Speed to burn the foe with Will-O-Wisp and recover its health immediately afterward. Both Snivy and Spritzee are Pokemon that Ponyta is unthreatened by, though it should be wary of Snivy's Glare. Ponyta can threaten most teams with the combination of Will-O-Wisp, Flare Blitz, and High Horsepower, as most Pokemon that can switch into Ponyta's attacking moves are crippled by a burn.

If Diglett is on the opponent's team, Ponyta must be played more conservatively and shouldn't be switching in on foes that use pivoting attacks, such as Mienfoo and Vullaby, since they can easily bring Diglett onto the field to KO Ponyta. Ponyta should also only focus on spreading status rather than KOing foes, as it is likely to be weakened from Flare Blitz's recoil and even more susceptible to being revenge killed. Boosting its Speed with Flame Charge is also something Ponyta should attempt to do whenever possible when fighting against teams with Diglett, such as on forced switches, as it will then be able to outpace and KO non-Choice Scarf Diglett. Ponyta should also avoid switching into Stealth Rock, as it will be unable to tank hits as reliably.

Team Options
========

While Ponyta is vulnerable to all forms of entry hazards, it especially hates Stealth Rock, which makes Pokemon capable of removing it such as Vullaby and Staryu ideal partners. Grass-types such as Foongus and Snivy are also good partners for Ponyta, as Ponyta's ability to lure in Water- and Rock-types gives it great synergy with these Pokemon. Snivy in particular is a fantastic teammate for Ponyta, since it can take on Pokemon like Onix, which can both force out Ponyta and set up Stealth Rock, and prevent entry hazards from staying on the field. Because Ponyta shouldn't be completely relied on to check Fighting-types, other Fighting-type checks such as Abra and Spritzee are very appreciated. Lastly, Shell Smash sweepers or other setup Pokemon like Scraggy appreciate Ponyta's ability to burn Pawniard and Fighting-type foes.

Aight, think this is ready for QC. It's really heavily based off the existing analysis hence why it's already written up, but if needed I can put it into bullet points.

Flare Blitz is Ponyta's most powerful STAB option and hits everything that isn't resistant to it for sufficient damage mention Flare Blitz hits a lot of common metagame threats super effectively (such as Foongus etc.) which can prove useful. High Horsepower is useful for hitting Pokemon resistant to Flare Blitz, such as Onix and Mareanie. Will-O-Wisp is useful (not qc but maybe you can change useful for a synonym since you used it above already) for halving the Attack of physical attackers such as Mienfoo and Mudbray, and Morning Sun is reliable recovery that allows Ponyta to sustain itself throughout a match as well as fish for Flame Body burns if Ponyta is not running Will-O-Wisp. Flame Charge is an option over High Horsepower or Will-O-Wisp that provides Ponyta with an important boost in Speed, which allows it to outpace and KO Diglett. Wild Charge is an option if Ponyta needs to be able to hit Vullaby and Staryu for more damage, but Ponyta struggles to find space for the move. Wild Charge may not be as confidently used against Staryu in a 1v1 situation due to a chance of speed tie so I'd probably throw in a mention that it can be more effectively used on predicted switch-ins.

196 Speed EVs and a Jolly nature allow Ponyta to hit 19 Speed and outpace most of the unboosted metagame. 156 Defense EVs, 76 Special Defense EVs, and an Eviolite allow Ponyta to hit 21 / 21 defenses and usually avoid notable 2HKOs from powerful attacks like Alolan Grimer's Poison Jab, Pawniard's Knock Off, and Vullaby's Brave Bird. Alternatively, Ponyta can run Berry Juice for automatic recovery when it drops below 50% of its HP in order to free a moveslot maybe replace "free a moveslot" to "switch Morning Sun for another move" for clarity. The remaining EVs are invested in Attack to provide Pontya with better damage output. Flame Body is the preferred ability, as it allows Ponyta to discourage foes like Mienfoo from freely using moves like U-turn or Fake Out by threatening to burn them on contact.

Usage Tips
========

Ponyta's Flame Body gives it the ability to check a number of physical attackers, which means one should feel free to liberally switch Ponyta into non-Rock- or Ground-type physical attacks. If Ponyta doesn't happen to burn its foe upon switching in, it can make use of its good Speed to burn the foe with Will-O-Wisp and recover immediately afterward mention that these points can also be done effectively during forced switches to spread status or recover safely, respectively. Both Snivy and Spritzee are Pokemon that Ponyta is unthreatened by, though it should be wary of Snivy's Glare. Ponyta can threaten most teams with the combination of Will-O-Wisp, Flare Blitz, and High Horsepower, as most Pokemon who can switch into Ponyta's attacking moves are crippled by a burn.

If Diglett is on the opponent's team Ponyta must be played more conservatively. Ponyta shouldn't be switching in on foes that use pivoting attacks, such as Mienfoo and Vullaby, as they can easily bring Diglett onto the field to KO Ponyta. Ponyta should also only focus on spreading status rather than KOing foes, as it is likely to be weakened from Flare Blitz's recoil and even more susceptible to being revenge killed. Boosting its Speed with Flame Charge is also something Ponyta should attempt to do whenever, as it will then be able to outpace and KO non-Choice Scarf Diglett. The circumstances to when Flame Charge should be mostly used in is important to mention, forced switches are good opportunities Ponyta should also avoid switching into Stealth Rock, as it will have 25% of its HP taken away and thus won't be able to tank hits as reliably.

Team Options
========

While Ponyta is vulnerable to all forms of entry hazards, it especially hates Stealth Rock, which makes Pokemon capable of removing it, such as Vullaby and Staryu, ideal partners you can possibly mention Vullaby can also bring Ponyta into safe oppertunities to spread status / heal / use flame charge. Grass-types such as Foongus and Snivy are also good partners for Ponyta, as Ponyta's ability to lure in Water- and Rock-types gives it great synergy with these Pokemon. Snivy in particular is a fantastic teammate for Ponyta since it can take on Pokemon like Onix, who can both force out Ponyta and set up Stealth Rock, and prevent entry hazards from staying on the field. Because Ponyta shouldn't be completely relied on to check Fighting-types, other Fighting-type checks such as Abra and Spritzee are very appreciated I'd mention that Fighting-type checks are helpful in the first place is because Mienfoo and Timburr are really common. Lastly, Shell Smash sweepers or other setup Pokemon like Scraggy appreciate Ponyta's ability to burn Pawniard and Fighting-type foes mention this helps because it allows for an easier sweep, maybe give Timburr a "such as" mention for Fighting-types since Mach Punch can be threatening to weakened setup sweepers.

Implemented some of this.

Changed useful to helpful in the High Horsepower sentence rather than the Wisp part. Didn't do the Staryu switch-in thing because that's more of a Usage Tips thing, in Moves you're just mentioning that you could run Wild Charge in order to hit Staryu for more damage than the other moves.

The burn switches or heal on switches isn't essential there and doesn't flow when I tried a couple variations, so I didn't add it. If QC asks then I'll give it another go.

While Ponyta likes U-turn support like pretty much every Pokemon in existence, it's not important enough that I'd add it in. In addition, a lot of the stuff that switches into Vullaby (Onix, Tirtouga) is a terrible matchup for Ponyta too, with Spritzee being basically the only exception, so I'm not going to give that kind of impression. "I'd mention that Fighting-type checks are helpful in the first place is because Mienfoo and Timburr are really common" I don't know what this means, the sentence is saying that Ponyta is a good fighting-type check but you probably want another one. Saying that fighting-type checks are in general a good thing seems out of place. I'm not going to explicitly mention Timburr in the burning fighting-types at the end because Timburr has access to Guts.

Thanks!

Specify that it usually avoids the 2HKO from defensive vully, as offensive vully usually 2HKOes.
I think a spread with an Impish nature and the Attack moved to Defense is worth mentioning - it lets Ponyta live offensive vully's BB, Adamant Pawniard's knock, Reckless Scarffoo's hjk after rocks, and you still outspeed Diglett at +1. Tying with Gastly/Doduo and being outsped by Abra/opposing Ponyta are the main disadvantages.

Team Options:
Could be worth going into detail on why Staryu and Defog Wingull are good - they can remove hazards as well.

Looks good otherwise, 1/3

  • Specify that it outpaces "unboosted" or "non-Choice Scarf" Diglett or something since scarf isnt that rare at the moment

  • When you talk about Ponyta boosting speed when possible, I'd specify that this is vs. Diglett. The wording isn't clear and I think GP would miss it, but there's not really a need for it to Flame Charge vs other teams.

Flare Blitz is Ponyta's most powerful STAB option and hits everything that isn't resistant to it for good damage while also hitting Pokemon like Foongus (kinda weird example given it also isn't resistant to Flare Blitz. I feel you'd put something resistant yet frail here?) very hard. High Horsepower is helpful for hitting Pokemon resistant to Flare Blitz, such as Onix and Mareanie. Flame Charge is an option over High Horsepower or Will-O-Wisp that provides Ponyta with an important boost in Speed, which allows it to outpace and KO non-Choice Scarf Diglett (You have it slashed behind Morning Sun as well though. Is that a mistake, or is this phrasing a mistake?). Wild Charge is an option if Ponyta needs to be able to hit Vullaby and Staryu for more damage, but Ponyta struggles to find space for the move.

Usage Tips

Ponyta's Flame Body gives it the ability to check a number of physical attackers, which means one should feel free to liberally switch Ponyta into non-Rock- or -(AH)Ground-type physical attacks. If Ponyta doesn't happen to burn its foe upon switching in, it can make use of its good Speed to burn the foe with Will-O-Wisp and recover its health immediately afterward. Both Snivy and Spritzee are Pokemon that Ponyta is unthreatened by, though it should be wary of Snivy's Glare (this is pretty useless as far as Usage Tips go imo. Are you trying to say that Ponyta can also switch into them? As it stands, I don't feel the sentence is all that useful.). Ponyta can threaten most teams with the combination of Will-O-Wisp, Flare Blitz, and High Horsepower, as most Pokemon who that can switch into Ponyta's attacking moves are crippled by a burn.

If Diglett is on the opponent's team,(AC) Ponyta must be played more conservatively. Ponyta shouldn't be switching in on foes that use pivoting attacks, such as Mienfoo and Vullaby, as they can easily bring Diglett onto the field to KO Ponyta. Ponyta should also only focus on spreading status rather than KOing foes, as since (changing to prevent overuse of .., as ... structure) it is likely to be weakened from Flare Blitz's recoil and even more susceptible to being revenge killed. Boosting its Speed with Flame Charge is also something Ponyta should attempt to do whenever possible when fighting against teams with Diglett (understood based on the paragraph structure imo), such as on forced switches, as it will then be able to outpace and KO non-Choice Scarf Diglett. Ponyta should also avoid switching into Stealth Rock, as it will have 25% of its HP taken away and thus (this seems like really common knowledge to me, although keep it if you think it's worth it.) won't be able to tank hits as reliably (this could probably go better alongside the bit about Flare Blitz recoil imo.).

Team Options
========

While Ponyta is vulnerable to all forms of entry hazards, it especially hates Stealth Rock, which makes Pokemon capable of removing it, such as Vullaby or and Staryu, (optional: remove the commas around the such as bit. the sentence reads really choppy as-is) ideal partners. Grass-types such as Foongus and Snivy are also good partners for Ponyta, as Ponyta's ability to lure in Water- and Rock-types gives it great synergy with these Pokemon. Snivy in particular is a fantastic teammate for Ponyta,(AC) since it can take on Pokemon like Onix, who which can both force out Ponyta and set up Stealth Rock, and prevent entry hazards from staying on the field. There's not really anything relevant in LC that resists Fire that Ponyta's going to be using Flare Blitz on instead of High Horsepower, besides the fringe viable (and obvious) Archen. Foongus is a pretty important target for Ponyta in general, so I'd like to leave an explicit mention of it here.

Morning Sun is reliable recovery that allows Ponyta to sustain itself throughout a match as well as fish for Flame Body burns if Ponyta it is not running Will-O-Wisp (I personally don't see how Morning Sun lets Ponyta do this, but that may just be a me problem.).
Spam Morning Sun while the opposing Vullaby or Mienfoo or such keeps using contact moves until Flame Body procs. Not sure there's any better way to describe it.

Ponyta's Flame Body gives it the ability to check a number of physical attackers, which means one should feel free to liberally switch Ponyta into non-Rock- or -(AH)Ground-type physical attacks.
This seems contrary to how "[TYPE]- and [TYPE]-type" phrases are implemented in onsite analyses and the grammar standards as I'm aware of them. Leaving it in unless GP says otherwise.

Boosting its Speed with Flame Charge is also something Ponyta should attempt to do whenever possible when fighting against teams with Diglett (understood based on the paragraph structure imo),
It was requested that this be explicitly stated by QC.

Pretty much, since Snivy and Spritzee are two of the Pokemon that Ponyta is very likely to encounter and be used as a counter for. It feels remiss to not mention them since they're both good Pokemon that the bulky Ponyta set is a good answer to.

Otherwise, largely implemented.
