Pokémon GO

You can get pokecoins with 3 options : either buying them or winning them with daily tasks or by using Pokemon to guard during a certain amount of time a gym. Daily tasks coins isn't something implemented in the whole word yet but where it's the case you can gain 20 pokecoins per day with daily tasks and 30 with gym while in other countries it's 50 with gym.

Pokecoins are then used to buy some outfits for your avatar or to buy premium items. You can buy some "boxs" with a lot of items in it too.
Also a 4th...ish option is the Google Opinion Rewards. You do little surveys every once in a while. They usually take less than 15 seconds to do and pay between 25-50 cents. I've made over 100 dollars on it in the past 3 years for the Google Play Store which can translate directly to Go coins.

Sucks they're getting rid of the half hatch distance bonus, guess I have to walk another 1km to hatch my Venipede now.

Updates to temporary bonuses

Trainers,

Over the past few months, we’ve been making temporary changes to Pokémon GO to adapt to the changing global environment. Some of these changes will remain implemented for the foreseeable future, such as the ability to raid remotely, changes to the GO Battle League, and the increased distance at which you can spin Photo Discs at Gyms and PokéStops. We thank you for all your feedback.

The following temporary bonuses will remain to improve Pokémon GO’s overall gameplay experience.
  • The maximum number of Gifts you can carry in your Item Bag at a time will remain at 20.
  • You will continue to receive three times the Stardust and XP for your first Pokémon catch of the day.
  • Incense duration will remain at 60 minutes.
When possible, people are generally encouraged to spend time outside, go on walks, and exercise for their mental and physical health—all while social distancing and abiding by other health and safety recommendations. Starting Thursday, October 1, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. PDT (GMT −7), the following temporary bonuses will be modified.
  • Hatch Distance will return to normal for Eggs.
  • The increased effectiveness of Incense will now apply only while walking.
  • Your Buddy Pokémon will now bring you Gifts only when you have nearly run out. This will happen only once per day.
  • You will still have a higher chance of getting a Gift when you spin a PokéStop. However, you won’t be guaranteed to get a Gift.
Incubators will be included in more boxes in the in-game shop.

For a summary of active bonuses, keep your eye on the “Special bonuses” section of the Today View! We will continue to monitor these active bonuses and will provide updates as necessary.

Additionally, we’re continuously monitoring the ever-evolving global situation and are working hard to reschedule previously planned live events to 2021. Health and safety are of the utmost importance. Please stay tuned to our official channels for any rescheduling updates.

Date + Time

Friday, October 9, 2020, at 8:00 a.m. to Monday, October 12, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. PDT (GMT −7)

Features
  • Whether it’s autumn or spring where you are, plants are flourishing all around the world. During this event, Berries will be twice as effective when you give them as treats to your Buddy Pokémon, and you’ll earn twice the usual Candy you normally would when catching a Pokémon that you’ve given a Pinap Berry to. Berries will also be dropping more often when you spin Photo Discs at PokéStops and Gyms, so be sure to harvest a few Berries!
  • Pokémon can sense when the seasons change! You can expect to see the following Pokémon appearing more often in the wild: Oddish, Vulpix, Bayleef, Hoothoot, Sudowoodo, Yanma, Pineco, Zigzagoon, Seedot, Shroomish, Plant Cloak Burmy, and Foongus.
  • If you’re lucky, you might encounter a Shiny Vulpix as originally discovered in Kanto!
  • Autumn-themed Pokémon will be hatching from 5 km Eggs.
  • Deerling, the Season Pokémon, will be making its Pokémon GO debut! The turning of the seasons changes the color and scent of this Pokémon’s fur. Keep an eye out for its Autumn Form Deerling!
In some parts of the world, the leaves are turning red and the shadows are growing longer! With the transition from a hot summer to a cooler autumn in some places, it looks like there will be a few different Pokémon hatching from Eggs soon. You can look forward to that and other exciting changes from Monday, October 12, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. to Monday, October 19, 2020, at 10:00 p.m. local time.

As the seasons change, it’s good to remember to enjoy the simple pleasures of life. It’s also the perfect time for self-reflection. Who knows? Maybe you’ll realize something new about yourself!

Now, it could have been an interesting event had it not been for the fact that 8 of the 12 featured Pokémon are common as dirt throughout the rest of the year, and none of the remaining ones are particularly exciting either. I mean, I guess Pineco is uncommon enough, and I've yet to catch a high-IV Yanma, bit otherwise this selection seems awfully crummy.

The ongoing event is fine enough, though. Mareep and Ralts are always a treat, and it's nice to finally be able to catch Gothita. But at time goes on, it becomes really, really apparent how awfully restricted most of the Gen V 'mons are and how Niantic keeps putting the same handfuls of crummy 'mons front and center to make any deviation from this pool of mediocrity feel exciting and special.

Finished the Meowth research earlier today. You basically get the following:

Pokemon
-60 Alolan Meowth
-6 Kantonian Meowth
-2 Galarian Meowth

All have a chance to be Shiny(I got three Shiny Alolan Meowth myself)

In terms of items:
-60 Pokeballs (Minus however many you use to Catch stuff with for the event)
-30 Pinap Berries (Minus at least six due to them being necessary to complete research)
-30 Nanab Berries (Minus at least six due to them being necessary to complete research)
-30 Razz Berries (Minus at least six due to them being necessary to complete research)

And for other rewards:
-10,000 Experience (Handed out in 500 increments)
-10,000 Stardust (Handed out in 500 increments)

I was lucky to get 2 shiny for Alola, 1 for Regular and 0 for Galar ! But with my previous Meowth Shiny from Kanto, I have all the "Shiny family" for Kanto & Alola !

Niantic teased some red eggs yesterday (here if you missed it), and today we have some more information.

Quick Summary
  • Strange Eggs hatch poison type and dark type Pokemon, as well as Pokemon that acquire either type via evolution
  • Event is from October 12th, 1pm PDT to October 19th, 10pm PDT, but eggs remain available after event
  • Larvitar, Scraggy Trubbish, and Vullaby are known to hatch from them for now
  • Acquired by defeating Team GO Rocket leader
  • 12km hatch distance
  • Eggs placed in Incubators during the event will hatch in 25% of usual distance
  • Team GO Rocket Special Research returns for the last time in 2020
  • Poison type and dark type Pokemon such as Spinarak, Houndour, Poochyena, Gulpin, Stunky, Purrloin will appear more often in the wild
  • Team GO Rocket will be more active
  • Snapshot surprise
  • Team GO Rocket Leader avatar items available in shop
Gotta love how they make the Victini research available, require 30 fire type Pokemon and 30 psychic type Pokemon to be captured, but then make other types more common.

What are these Strange Eggs? Save them from Team GO Rocket during the autumn event!

Trainers,

Remember when we predicted that different Pokémon might be hatching from Eggs soon due to the temperature change? While it’s true that different Pokémon will be hatching from Eggs, we might have been a bit naïve with our initial assessment.

It turns out, Team GO Rocket has been collecting a new type of Egg called Strange Eggs. These Eggs seem to hatch Poison-type Pokémon, Dark-type Pokémon, and Pokémon that acquire one of those types via Evolution. Fortunately, it doesn’t seem that the Pokémon hatching from these Eggs have been harmed in any way, but regardless, Team GO Rocket’s activities are always a little worrisome!

Date + Time

Monday, October 12, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. to Monday, October 19, 2020, at 10:00 p.m. PDT (GMT −7)

Features
  • Strange Eggs have appeared in Pokémon GO! According to Spark’s early research, the following Poison-type Pokémon, Dark-type Pokémon, and Pokémon that acquire one of those types via Evolution can hatch from these Eggs: Larvitar, Scraggy, Trubbish, and Vullaby—though there may be even more!
  • Defeat a Team GO Rocket Leader to receive a Strange Egg, and walk 12 km to hatch it. You’ll need to have space in your Egg inventory before your battle with Sierra, Cliff, or Arlo in order to receive a Strange Egg. Strange Eggs will continue to be available in Pokémon GO after the event ends.
  • Eggs placed in Incubators during the event will require one-quarter the normal walking distance to hatch.
  • For the first time since March, new Team GO Rocket Special Research will be available! Join Professor Willow as he and the team leaders investigate Team GO Rocket’s involvement with Strange Eggs, culminating in a battle with Giovanni himself! This is the last Team GO Rocket Special Research in 2020. If you currently have the The Shadowy Threat Grows Special Research from earlier this year, you’ll need to complete it first before you can obtain this new Special Research.
  • Poison-type and Dark-type Pokémon will be appearing more often in the wild! Look forward to encountering Spinarak, Houndour, Poochyena, Gulpin, Stunky, Purrloin and more.
  • Team GO Rocket will be more active than usual! Keep an eye out for Team GO Rocket taking over more PokéStops and Team GO Rocket balloons appearing more often.
  • Take a snapshot for a surprise!
  • Team GO Rocket Leader avatar items are now available in the shop. Perhaps you could use these avatar items to infiltrate and investigate Team GO Rocket! GO forth, Trainer!
In addition, we’ve heard reports that Team GO Rocket Grunts now is using the following Shadow Pokémon: Diglett, Shellder, Slowpoke,, Aerodactyl, and Skarmory. Team GO Rocket Leaders also appear to be using Shadow Growlithe, Shadow Drowzee, and Shadow Omanyte—if you’re incredibly lucky, you might be able to rescue a Shiny version of one of these Shadow Pokémon. Finally, defeat Giovanni for a chance to rescue Shadow Mewtwo! This is the first time Shadow Mewtwo is available in Pokémon GO outside of the Rocket Straight to Victory Special Research, which was exclusive to Pokémon GO Fest 2020.

After this event begins on Monday, October 12, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. PDT (GMT −7), you’ll be able to save Shadow Mewtwo and Shadow Pokémon from Giovanni, the Team GO Rocket Leaders, and Grunts when those Team GO Rocket members are piloting Team GO Rocket balloons. However, you won’t be able to encounter the Team GO Rocket Leaders’ new Shadow Pokémon or Shadow Mewtwo from PokéStops until the next day in your local time.

Team GO Rocket never rests, Trainers, and neither can we! It looks like these Strange Eggs are here to stay. Let’s save as many of these Strange Eggs as possible from Team GO Rocket!

There was a Psychic event last week, so 30 Psychic wasn't hard for me. And there was a lot of Vulpix these days, I managed to catch 30 fire types. And don't forget the next CD .... FIRE LIZARD IS RIGHT HERE

I saw a couple of Ralts here and there but not psychic Pokemon in overwhelming numbers. Same with Vulpix the past few days. Charmander will definitey help with fire types but I still need psychic. Oh well, at least there's no expiry date for this event.

Speaking of events, I really, really hope we're not getting the Spiritomb event for Halloween this year...

The full list of hatchables from the Shadow Eggs seems to be:
  • Trubbish
  • Absol
  • Larvitar
  • Scraggy
  • Deino
  • Vullaby
  • Pawniard
  • Sandile
Eight Pokémon in total, but knowing Niantic, I think it'd be extremely optimistic to assume the top two on the list don't make up more than 50% of the hatches, with the next two making up two thirds of the rest.

FWIW hatched one Shadow Egg so far and I got a Vullaby (96% at that!) but I'm very much assuming that was a fluke and it'll be Absols from here on out.

I'm two for two with Absol so far. Coincidentally, Absol was also the Pokémon hatched from my last two 10k Eggs. I've acquired a third Strange Egg now, and am fully expecting Absol or Trubbish in this one too.

It's all a little baffling to me, how bad Niantic mucked this up. They had a really good chance to harvest some goodwill here, by providing a guaranteed means for players to obtain some rare Pokémon. All they would have to do was not including literal garbage in the egg pool. Yet somehow, they felt a need to pollute the pool with Pokémon they knew players would take negatively. Going to all those lengths to obtain and hatch a 12k egg only to find a Trubbish is directly insulting. Absol and Larvitar have also been common enough through other means that it's really disappointing to find one when you could have gotten Pawniard, Vullaby, or Sandile instead (by the way, what a strange statement this is compared to the main series). It's like they're trying to be annoying.

I personally got : 1 Absol, 1 Larvitar and 2 Vullaby.

The big thing with those new eggs is the amount of stardust you're getting when they're hatching (around 5000-6500 from what I've seen).
I kinda regret that we're not able to get Pawniard, Vullaby and Sandile outside of those eggs especially for the last two since they can be relevant for PVP. In order to get a good Mandibuzz for PVP you really need to get a good trade with someone else by doing Vullaby mirror trades.

6 Rare Eggs hatched so far: Absol, Absol, Larvitar, Deino, Absol, Trubbish.

Needless to say, this mechanic doesn't really improve my impressions of Niantic.

What I'm finding irritating about this is that it's forcing me to play the game differently. I went out yesterday to find a leader so I could get another Shadow Egg and didn't spin a single Pokestop on the way for fear of accidentally taking an Egg.

This morning I had two open slots and was waiting for one of the leaders to arrive in a balloon, but the weekly reward tab popped up and - because I'd walked 63 km this week - gave me a 10km and a 5km egg. Great.

It's abundantly clear they're just looking to sell more Rocket Radars, because having to ensure you have a free egg slot when that naturally coincides with beating six grunts is way too tricky.

I've been slightly luckier than you though; no Deino or Larvitar but I've had four or five Pawniard.

I've hatched one so far and... Larvitar. I have that same issue where I'm trying to save up egg slots for the new eggs, but battling 6 GO Rocket Grunts still takes a bit off my potion stash that I need to spin some stops for them.

Halloween event announced.
