Pokémon XY General Discussion

Has the entire CoroCoro leaked now? The words "18-page Pokémon XY special" were flying around yesterday, but so far, we've only seen four pages and the cover. Is 18 pages the total volume of the magazine, or should we expect 14 more pages on XY to leak? Not that I'm not happy with what we've got, but it would have been nice with some clarification.

I don't remember hearing 18 pages....I don't think any of the corocoros have devoted that much to one game

It might be 18 pages, total, counting the misc coverage & manga, I guess?

The 18 page thing was likely a mistranslation on somebody's part. Most everyone's still praying for more leaky goodness to flow in by Wednesday. And lol, CoroCoro is like Shonen Jump, it's much bigger than 18 pages.

I sleep and all this happens, great, time to play catch up.

First Impressions (In the order of me seeing each piece of information)

Yancham: O_o .... I LOVE IT! Pandas! Looks Grass/Normal typing.

Gogoat: ...meh, don't really like it, looks fresh though. Grass typing.

Elikiteru: Meh, but still better than Gogoat, design-wise. Not sure of it's typing.

Yayakoma: Very nice. Must be the beginning bird, but it sets itself apart from the other ones in a welcomed way. I like it, Normal/Flying though, logically.

*looks to the left* wow, Froakie looks chill, he just earned cool points from me.

Male Character: This reminds me too much of the "leaked" images' art style of the character. Overall though, I like.

Female Character: Nice... *that is all*

Customizations: ...!? Really? Welp, I know there's gonna be a lot of happy forum goers today. I personally don't care for it, I'm just going to end up picking the defaults anyways.
Upon learning the correct information:
Yancham: Fighting? Really? I am choosing Chespin, so that means no same types on the team (I'm very picky about that on a playthrough team). Kinda hope for Fighting/Grass evos, but then Chespin... hold on, Naughty? Fighting/Dark? But... Scrafty line... ah well. Still love it. 9/10

Gogoat: Pure Grass? I was right, nice. Still don't like its design. Looks like it might evolve once. 3/10

Elikiteru: Electric/Normal?! Freakin sweet! I already warmed up to its design a lot. Can't say the same for Gogoat. 7/10

Yayakoma: Normal/Flying. Big surprise. BUT, I still like the design, might be a team member. 2 evolutions? Maybe, but then there's Hoothoot... 7/10

Parabola Charge: Elec Giga Drain?! Yes please. Elikiteru gets it? That's nice, up to an 8/10
Parting Remark: ...........if given the right stat drops it could be broken. YANCHAM GETS IT?! You're so on my team.
Flame Charge on Yayakoma: I ****ing love this bird. Team spot and it is now a 8.5/10
Horn Leech on Gogoat: lol, stiff competition eh Sawsbuck? Not really, you're still better in my heart. However, it is a 3.5/10 now.

Gogoat temp mount: Even more happy forum goers. Up to a 4/10 now, good job I guess.
French villains anyone?

This CoroCoro is at least bountiful in info.

I don't think the girl is too fan service related. Maybe I'm too old
to think that a 12 year old is a sex icon. . . (can't stand sexploitation).

(also maybe Apple is on to something with their rumored IWatch
since Pokeworld is jumping on the bandwagon?)

Okay, I gotta ask you guys out there, because this comment actually raised a question in my mind...... Take a look at normal 12 year old girls today, and then at the main girls in the pokemon games........ Do those girls in the games look like 12 to you?

With the maturity at which they speak and their appearances, they feel to be at LEAST 14.

Well, Boufallant was a pre-release pokémon, and I think there are too many similarities between it and Gogoat. I'd say it's safe to assume it's a random pure-Grass 490 BST pokémon you find by the third badg--ok maybe I'm stretching here. But I don't expect much from it; if anything, it's there only for the riding gimmick.
You might not actually, considering how most main cities are before third or fourth gym, if they are not the location of the third or fourth gym.

Assuming you are not renting/borrowing the Gogoat, of course.

Sugimori never ever handles the movie or anime stuff
In fact I don't think there's much overlap between the two teams.
Sugimori doesn't do active work, but he provided the animé team with reference sheets of animé-only characters and Pokémon. You can see some of them on Bulbapedia(look for Metagross and Vincent, there are obviously more.)

Anyways, it seems that instead of having in-battle models, we will be having stock arts with descriptions when we encounter trainers, much like in the Stadium games(it writes "Miniskirt Rika challenged you to battle" under that N lookalike, Miniskirt is Lass class's Japanese name).

And all of the Pokémon seem to have three major animations, one normal, one attack( with angry eyebrows) and one getting damage("><" eyes and falling back).

So, while snooping around the interwebs, i found something regarding Smash. We know Sylveon isn't fighting, is super effective to ice, and weak to poison, if we are going word for word. R_N has already pointed out what it isnt, but lets go further...

What we know is it isn't any of the other eevee types, so normal is shot. it was easily captured by fighting types, so we could argue that its SE. looking at the chart, they include Steel, Rock, Dark, and Ice. We cut out Dark and Ice already, so skip those. Poison worked on it, so it cant be Steel, and by that, it cant be Poison. All we have left is Rock.

.... I think you see it already.

But lets say that fighting isnt super effective to Fighting. we still know that it isn't Fighting, Ice, or Poison. It broke Ice, which means Fire, Rock, Steel, or Fighting. Same problem, we still have Rock.

But now the nail in the coffin. I'm not sure 100%, but I believe that they said the flower was SE. Poison is SE to one type only, Grass. Minus the eeveelutions, and you get nothing.

Now, even if Poison isnt SE, we would still have Rock. Now call me crazy, but I can say without a doubt that fluffy over there is a Rock type.

New type confirmed from process of elimination.

On one of the pictures you can see that Chespin has a brown, ground like collored move, could hint something...

The four moves has been translated to Growl, Tackle, Vine Whip and Rollout.

The PPs don't match, though, so I'm a little sceptical to the translation. One of the moves has 35 PP (same as Scratch and Pound), whereas Tackle has 30. The Grass move has 25 PP (same as Razor Leaf), while Vine Whip only has 15. It's either a mistranslation, or the moves (Vine Whip and Tackle) will receive a PP boost.

tackle has 35 PP and the name of the grass move is pretty clearly the japanese name for vine whip so i'd say the translation is accurate and the latter is getting a pp boost. rollout is probably correct too even though i can barely see what its PP / name is.

This Roll Out move may be a clue that Chespin evolves into a grass/rock type. I know it's not a solid proof, many non-rock type can learn Roll Out (Whitney's Miltank is a famous example :p) but it would fit its color theme.
Grass/Rock would be a great typing, particularly in offense.

You haven't met this guy

But still, it could be good, depending on what coverage options it gets.

Yveltal said:
Chespin is the Shelled Chestnut Pokémon. Its head and back is covered by a hard shell. It can protect itself using its shell when attacked. By focusing power into the spike s on its head, they become sharper and harder.
Based on this I won't be surprised if Chespin ends up getting Spikes(!).

The new Pokemon are pretty cool; I actually really like the orange bird, as it brings some variety to the stereotypical early-game Flying-type.

Ugh... dunno why, but so far they all look like fakemon to me :( especially the Gogoat. Didn't like him at all, although riding pokemon could be a fun new addition.
The bird is tolerable, I like the addition of a robin pokemon. The Jarjar Binks is ADORABLE and the panda is a MOFO BADASS PANDA YEAH :D

On a more serious note, I really like the idea of status U-turn! Baton pass even on things that don't pass boosts (sometimes Celebi for example) is a great move already, and it will now face competition in usage.
However, I hope things like Parabola Charge (fucking awesome name btw) don't become very common. I mean a gret deal of new moves (from Gen 4+ later) were just type variations of new moves we already had. In the end we will end up having all the move variations in all the types. You know what I mean? :( At least such moves could have limited distribution, to make it more fun. Like how Horn Leech was in Gen 6.

Waiting for the other pages :3

So is it confirmed skin and hair color are the only things you can change? If so its a step in the right direction but Game freak can do so much more.

Gogoat to me looks like a final evo stage Poke or a standalone who can't evolve. His design is very complex and usually big pokes are final evolutions (some exceptions like onix)

I'm hoping Parabola Charge ends up with good distribution and BP. I imagine some frailer electric sweepers would enjoy it to heal from stuff like life orb damage.

It would be pretty rad on LO Galvantula assuming it's not some pathetically weak attack power.

Now we could have Rotom-W's that make you guess between volt-turn or volt-heal. Entry hazards countering volt-turn be damned.

The thing intersting about the move is that it definitely sounds like a signature move, unless we get more solar powered pokes.
I just hope Magnezone or Magneton dont get it; they are good enough already.

Fairy will be a new type. It is weak to Poison and Steel, immune to Dragon, super effective against Dragon, Dark, and Fighting, and Fire and Psychic-type Pokemon take half damage from it.

Sylveon is Fairy-type. Some older Pokemon will be reclassified to Fairy, such as Mawile (Steel/Fairy).

Mewtwo has two new formes, not just one. Both are activated via items.
The professor's English name is Patrice.

The Starter final evolutions are Fire/Psychic, Grass/Fighting, and Water/Dark.
The first Gym is Bug, the second is Fairy, and the fourth is Fighting.
A few attacks will be dual-typed.

There will be a new type of battling style that Flying-type Pokemon and Pokemon with Levitate can participate in.

You will be able to see a Pokemon's EVs at a certain in-game facility. You will be able to boost the EVs through mini-games. It will take about two hours to get one stat to max EVs.

so did everyone see these? from pokebeach.

I'd like to focus on the sunglasses once again.

As you can see, both the male and female main character carry them. As evident by the initial trailer and its "infamous" rope-swing shot, the sunglasses don't appear to be connected to the main model (like, say, the player's hat is). This suggests that the glasses are able to be moved around on the player character, and not fixed in place. If they were meant to be visual accessories only, they would be static like the brim of the hat or the characters' boots. Instead, they remain in mid-air when the character jumps the rope.

Now, the 3DS has a few nifty AR capabilities. I wonder if the glasses are somehow connected? As in, they are items to be used, possibly in conjunction with those fancy wristwatches, activating an Augmented Reality feature in which Pokémon can bounce around your living room? Or perhaps they are connected to some in-game thing, where they will make the world seem a little different? Perhaps some invisible stuff will become visible when the glasses are worn?
We saw in Entralink how one could visit the world of another player and walk around in his game like some sort of ghost. Perhaps the glasses allow you to see and interact with other players? Or perhaps they are just Itemfinders?

Either way, I'm pretty sure the sunglasses are significant.

EDIT: @Ivysaurtrainer: [Citation needed]. Pokébeach have been shown to post rumours they've come across earlier. I wouldn't take anything for granted unless it comes straight from GameFreak. Every other pokéfan out there has his own pet theory about new types, and some post them as facts to gain attention, or misinterpret other's pet theories as legit leaks and report them to the news sites.

I haven't seen them but I seriously doubt the legitimacy.
