Pokémon XY General Discussion

In the Pokemon smash battle, when Blaziken and Amphy went Mega, they only showed the Mega Evolution animation itself, and not the scene with the trainer and the Pokemon and the Mega Ring. When will the Mega Ring scene actually be used in Gameplay, do you think?

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but I just noticed from the box art that these are the first main series Pokemon games without the word "version" in their titles. They're officially just Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. Kinda cool—wonder why they decided to make that change.

Hmmm. It seems like unlocking a Pokémon's MEvo is a special occasion. I think it would always play the first time any one particular Pokémon MEvos. Like, your Absol is able to MEvo for the first time and it plays then, and five battles later it plays when you MEvo your Mawile/second Absol for their first time. If not that, maybe you can turn the animation on and off in the options panel.

One would think that, because XY are still renditions of a main series Pokémon game, they would include "version" in the title. Maybe it's just Game Freak making a quirky but symbolic step into the wonderful world of 3D main series games.
Or, they realized that NOBODY uses "version" when talking about ANY Pokémon game, and decided to beat the world to its own abbreviation of the new game titles.

For those who have not gotten the 3DS before the announcement of X&Y, which console did you go for?
The 2DS, 3DS XL, or special edition.

Just curious...
went for special edition, because why not... If you're gonna get a console, it may as well be a good one

It seems this thread and serebii are the only placed where we're less likely to see spoilers. That means no Youtube, Tumblr, twitter, facebook, Pokebeach, Pokejungle etc. untill I get my own version of Pokemon X. I'm most likely also gonna have to cut out serebii a couple of days before the 12th in case they get the game a bit early.

I'm going with #TeamFennekin, although I'm planning on catching and using, by rotating, most of the new pokemon in my first playthrough. Hopefully the Exp. All will make that possible.

Rock/Dragon fossil:

2x weak to Fighting, Ground, Steel, Dragon, Ice, Fairy

2x resist Poison, Normal, Electric, Flying

4x resists Fire

The Rock/Ice fossil:

2x weak to Rock, Ground, Water, Grass

4x weak to Steel, Fighting

2x resist Ice, Normal, Flying, Poison

Resistances are of questionable value compared to the horrible weaknesses.
If these things aren't decently fast they are doomed.

I recently bought my first 3DS, a red 3DS XL. I have no interest in the special editions, as I don't want my 3DS decorated with Pokemon. All-black handhelds are boring to me; red is much nicer looking.

After using the XL, I see no reason why anyone would want to use a regular-sized 3DS—the XL's screens are huge and gorgeous.

To be far, the rock/dragon fossil is more offensive

Who do you guys think the most popular starter will be?

Probably Fenniken, unless it has like a really homely final stage. Fire starters are usually the top picks, and I've just notice it at the top of most "who ya gonna choose" polls.

I actually still haven't picked mine up yet. I'm really leaning towards the midnight purple non-XL 3DS. 'Cause I love purple and I'm cheap (well, that and I don't think that color even comes in XL). But I'm also kinda worried that If I pass one of the special Pokemon editions I'm gonna regret it later, so I might end up flipping a coin. Either way I don't have long to decide.

It's ironic that rock, a conceptually defensive type, is actually sort of horrible defensively. Neither of the fossils looks very fast IMO either. MAYBE Tyrantrum could have decent speed, but I don't think Aurorus will be fast. They still look like they'd be a lot of fun to use with their unique typings, abilities, and attacks.

I'm probably going to use Aurorus in-game and maybe breed one after for competitive battling in lower tiers.

Yeah I went ahead and pre ordered a blue LE one. Even though I'm getting Y, I've been playing on my blue/black ds for so long it just seemed fitting. Also the red one to me was too bright and stood out a whole lot. I didn't realise until I unboxed it how FUCKING HUGE IT IS! Like seriously I feel like a bit of a tool playing it, but I actually really like it! Bought Dream Radar straight away so having fun with that...

Anyway, I've been with #teamfennekin from day 1, but they keep introducing all these fire types I wanna use. Not sure how to handle that one just yet. Maybe I'll actually go mono fire and be SO FIRED UP

Well... I'm going with my Black 3DS, Pokemon X, and Chespin/Bulbasaur/Torchic, yeah. Grass has been one of my favorite types (#1 is Ghost ^_^). I really like the fact that MegaVenusaur has Thick Fat, making the only real weaknesses Psychic & Flying. I'm also hoping to get at least one female starter for breeding purposes.

So....
I'm really going to miss you all.... I've really liked learning SO much about X/Y, theories are always popping into my head, and I've made a couple of acquaintances here as well, only on this page! heheh

It depends upon the moves the type gets. I mean, if they introduce a move that boosts Attack, Defense and Speed (Physical Quiver Dance) and limit its distribution to mostly rock types, then Rock types will become used a lot again. Just look at Volcarona.. with that pathetic defensive typing and weakness to SR, it should be a bad Pokemon to be picked in any team. Yet it's used widely almost exclusively due to Quiver Dance.

Tyranitar and Terakion are the only Rock type Pokemon in BW OU. You have to be pretty good to overcome all the defensive liabilities of a rock typing. If they give Tyrantrum high Attack and Speed I can see potential competitively. A 4x Fire resistance (mind burns!) may not be completely useless in a tier likely to be infested with Steels/Fairies and thus some Fire types to Attack/Defend. Dragon STAB will still have great neutral coverage and Fairies without a resistance will not appreciate a well-timed STAB Head Smash (not much will if its attack befits a T-rex). Most Rock types I can think of get EQ so that'll be good for most Steels or maybe a Strong Jaw boosted Fire Fang will be an option as well. Despite the obvious weaknesses, I'm intrigued by the Rock/Dragon.

Wish:
*A new Dragon STAB that's a biting attack and thus Strong Jaw boosted would be neat. Even if it's a weak base 65 'fang', a Technician-level boost (*wink) would make it base 97 before STAB and reliably strong. Even a 30% boost would result in an attack a bit stronger than Dragon Claw. Still, I'm hoping it's a 50% boost as most biting attacks are quite weak at around base 60. I think they max at Crunch's base 80 if I'm not forgetting a rare move.

Does Dragon really need any more attacking moves? I kind of like how there's a rather limited number of Dragon attacks, as it helps balance the type overall.

Version specific Mega evolutions were just confirmed.

The Mega Charizard we've been seeing is the Y version, image attached was confirmed as Mega Charizard X.
