With these games being based on the Iberian Peninsula, it just kinda dawned upon me what they were going for with SV. Between these being the first fully open world Pokémon games, the trailer mentioniung something about a treasure hunt and the legendaries being means of transportation, its pretty clear that exploration is a big theme in SV. And given its inspiration, I wanna take a wild guess and say that this is a sort of reference to the grand expeditions that Spain and Portugal used to have. It's a pretty interesting and morally questionable way to tie the region's origin and legendaries to real world events

On that note, it also makes me see Koraidon in a slightly different light. Its antenna thingie kind of looks like the ropes used in the ships from that era
1659758142537.png
1659758160632.png

And while this is more of a stretch, having a ship-based element in its design makes me wonder if maybe the feathers are also inspired by sails. Either way its pretty interesting to see how much Koraidon is tied to the ocean (other than what I mentioned here, it has webbed limbs and a flotation sac). Kind of smart to tie the mon that's meant to represent the past to the place where life began

I’m also really excited for Paldean Wooper’s evolution. It has all of the defensive qualities of Nidoqueen (Fairy-, Fighting-, and [Stealth] Rock-resist, Electric immunity, Toxic Spikes absorber, Toxic Immunity) and adds a Water (and by extension, Scald) immunity on top of it with Water Absorb. It’s still up in the air if it’ll have Recover, though. We all thought Obstagoon was going to get Belly Drum + Extreme Speed like its Hoenn counterpart, but that ended up not being the case. If not, I think Pooper’s Evo will still make for a nice pivot with all of those qualities compressed into one mon.
This is the stark grim possibility that I've been trying to blissfully ignore. But, its very true. Recover, Haze, Scald - nothing is really guaranteed to carry over. There certainly aren't a lot of Poison pokemon that get Recover, only Toxapex I think. I'm imagining this thing will probably get a new unique move - probably Poison - too, so hopefully that turns out to be actually useful over our other options.

reading between the lines here, Gardevoir is probably going to get water moves.
Water Pulse doesnt count :psysly:
Splishy Splash it is. Joking aside, while Terastal is rumored to have something to remedy that issue, if Gardevoir was to get any Water-type move it probably would be Water Pulse (surprise it doesn't already considering what learns it via Tutor). Only other Water-type move it could reasonably learn is Sparkling Aria (though if they do that I think they could then also give it Mystical Fire).

Madrid got nuked!
This is the Pokemon World, you know underneath those clouds is an entire city. :bloblul:

The way they handles Terallizing is genius. If you wanted to turn your Charizard into any type GF would have to make 17 unique models to turn the fire into flowers or whatever. But here you just define a head point for each Pokemon and a crown for each type. Genius.
I can't tell if you're being serious or sarcastic. :blobthinking: It'll at least be better than Dynamaxing as this is clearly just a crystal effect layer over the Pokemon's model instead of them making a completely separate model of the Pokemon which is just bigger. Also visually more interesting, though we'll see what the crystal effect has on the Signature Terastal forms, Gigantamax sometimes was goofy but at the very least had a style and we could clearly see them. Would be a shame they made a new cool looking form but it was obscured by crystal effects.

And we have our second(?) set of exclusives (after the legendaries, of course)

Scarlet: Larivtar & Stonjourner
Violet: Bagon & Eiscue
Hey, GF, can we not make Stonjourner and Eiscue version exclusives of each other? I don't feel they have that much similar about them outside of their debut generation to keep them version exclusive. Like some I get such as Oranguru & Passimian or Turtonator & Drampa, but these two specifically feel like it's only done because Melony and Gordie are related.

Though personally I think, unless there's a good reason to keep them exclusives, version exclusives should be unchained from one another or do at least something unique with them. Like maybe have a game where some version exclusives are version exclusive pairs (like Scarlet would have Oranguru & Passimian while Violet would have Turtonator & Drampa) or swap around the version exclusives so that a group don't always appear in the same combination (as it is right now, when the four Pokemon I'm using are in a game, Passimian & Turtonator are in Version A (Sun, Sword) and Oranguru & Drampa are in Version B (Moon, Shield). If both are once again in, maybe switch it up by having Oranguru & Turtonator in Scarlet & Passimian & Drampa in Violet).

Pray for easy ways to change Tera Types. I don't want G-Max factor 2: Electric Bugaloo and all of its shortcomings in base SwSh.
No, Tera-Types will likely be "easy" to change. It'll be the Signature Terastal Pokemon which would be a pain to change a Pokemon into & out of, probably need to wait till the DLC for that. We're in Spain now so gonna say it'll be a rice dish.

I just learned something surprising. According to the official site for SV, Grusha the ice type gym leader is a guy. I'm sure no one is going to confused about that...
Was gonna wait to talk about that but I guess might as well mention it now. Apparently Grusha being a guy is such big news that Kotaku ran an article on it. Not that I'm any better with my joke I did for Grusha.

I can see why the confusion in the first place. Grusha does look like a lady due to the pronounced eyelashes which is usually used for women.

Now, is it a big deal? Of course not. When you have:

Being shocked that a character you thought was a woman just turned out to be a guy who is a bit feminine in appearance feels like an overaction, especially since they're not hiding he's a guy. And I don't think this is a trans or LGBT+ thing either, like if it is then good on GF for being inclusive, but what I think is more likely is that they wanted an Ice-type Gym Leader who was a guy with snowy hair and icy sharp eyes. Cause when you become a Type specialist apparently your body goes through a metamorphosis where you begin to have parts of yourself resemble the Type you train. Though I do find it funny that all the rule 34 artists learn that they've infact been doing rule 63, lol! :bloblul:

That said, I just want to mention how strange Grusha's hair is now giving it a closer look. Like, apparently he has this strand of hair on his right side which forms a loop, then has another strange which comes out more BUT instead of going over the loop instead tucks under it. Like, he had to do that on purpose, no way hair would tangle up like that.

that’s really cool, assuming it’s an actual gameplay thing (wild Pokemon starting battle poisoned)
Bonus points if some of them are carrying a Pecha Berry and use it after the first turn in battle.

I've been told Paldea map meets Kalos map exactly were France and Spain meets. Is it true? So where's Andorra?
Right below Kiloude City, but we don't talk about the South Kalos...
Comes from the ground, we have a weird ominous area in the middle and all the crowns...

have an angry face on them (its the same one on all the crowns)

I guess following Necrozma and Eternatus, this is the third phenomena influenced by the "third" legendary
Another thing I was gonna wait to discuss but I'll do it now:

Yeah, while I didn't discover it myself I think I saw a GamExplain video with a thumbnail pointing out the evil eyes. I was then reminded that the Tera Orb looks a LOT like a Poke Ball even though it's not:

HOLD ON A MINUTE! Thank you Bulbapedia for providing a bigger image of it. Not only does it look like a Poke Ball, but it looks to have a crystal floating inside of it, meaning it's also hollow like a Poke Ball.

This and with the crown having the angry eyes, I too am thinking an additional Legendary is more-or-less directly behind Terastal. I'm thinking maybe we have a sort of Zygarde Cells going on here. The Tera Orb is a Poke Ball of sorts carrying around pieces of the Third Legendary. When you use it to Terastallize, you're sending out the "cell" which attaches to your active Pokemon and turns it into its Tera Type, the "Cell" being the jewel on the crown making an angry face.

And beyond that I can speculate dozens of ideas but they mean nothin' until the game is released and we learn the truth behind Terastal.

... Has there been one Super Gimmick which doesn't have a dark secret behind it? Mega Evolution came from firing of the Ultimate Weapon which costed hundreds if not thousands of lives, Primal Reversion damages the Pokemon World by absorbing Infinity Energy (and was then used by Kyogre & Groudon to rip ancient Hoenn a new one likely killing many), Z-Crystals are parts of Necrozma which is an interdimensional construct that eats all of a world's light plunging it into eternal darkness and cold, and Wishing Stars are parts of Eternatus which is a giant space skeleton dragon which caused Pokemon to grow giant and out of control in an event called the Darkest Day (and likely many lives were lost). And since some of these at the very least have a confirmed body count, makes using them sort of morally questionable, especially for sport. Here kids, have a piece of the power that can DESTROY THE WORLD, just make sure to take your Pokemon to the Pokemon Center after they're done roughhousing.

I suppose there's Battle Bond if they got over their "Greninja is special" phase.

Ok... So it was told you can make your way into the League whatever you want but... Nothing about level balance in the gyms.
This means I can right off fight againts a full team 40+ leveled pokemon with my level 3 starter?
From what we know you can certainly try... not that I think you'll even get that far with just your Level 5 Starter and handful of early route mons.

However, if they add in an overarching story, I'd imagine at certain points you'd be required to do something to push that along. Like I can see the three personal stories all having thresholds which notes when the game should have a certain part of the Main Story happen so that no matter how far you get in one personal story you'll always be "on track" overall.

If they don't bring back Hidden Power, I could see it being determined based on IVs in a similar manner, though that would leave out Fairy and Normal.
They can just fix the Hidden Power formula to include Normal & Fairy. Like, here's the formula to decide Hidden Power's Type, am I wrong to assume all they'd need to do is add Normal as #16, Fairy as #17, and instead of multiplying the sum by 15 they multiply it by 17. Right, or am I failing math? But...

It is implied you can find Pokemon with "rare Tera types" through the raids.
If that's the case, Tera Types are then likely its own calculation so that com mons stick with a certain range of Types. Trying not to complicate things, they could have two ways of figuring out a Pokemon's Tera Type: one for com mons which is just a dice roll while Raid mons maybe would use a Hidden Power-like calculation. Once a Pokemon's Tera Type is determined it then becomes its own data point not influenced by anything else, that way they can also add in a way to change the Tera Type. And the Signature Terastals will always have set Types.

They're going to market mix-and-match figurines with Pokemon/Tera Crown aren't they
Maybe make versions of the crowns that people can wear (or make them rings or just pins, honestly Pokemon has a lot of logos and things they could make a killing by making pins of and throwing in blind boxes), but otherwise if they make figurines or plush using the basic Terastals they'll probably just pick some notable Pokemon to represent that Terastal Type. Like they could try making like a lightweight crown attachment that sticks on with like Velcro but (1) it would only be a specific series of figures/plush the crowns would work with and (2) how would they do the crystal armor effect which is just as much a design aspect as the crown.

No, there's gonna be a Signature Terastal for a few Pokemon and THOSE will be getting the figurines/plush. If you want the basic Terastal crowns for your figurines/plush, that's a project you're going to need to pick up on (maybe for fun they could make free print-ups of the crowns you can print out, cut, and tape together around your plush's head).

Game freak literally made a mechanic based on a filler episode from 20 years ago, first mega gyarados, then giant mons and now this.

I DARE YOU!

I feel like we just really need a full gameplay demonstration of the tera typings in action. When we getting a demo kiosk
Never cause they moved onto downloadable demos.

"When we getting the downloadable demo"

Never cause the last one they gave us we datamined and found the entire Pokedex cause someone forgot to remove the Dex's Shiny images.

Do we also count stuff like Pikachu getting super charged with like 10k Volts to fight Brock's Onix for Z-moves?
No, but this might count.
They're using Thunder as armor!
THUNDER ARMOR!

So basically is "press this for make your pokemon a monotype with adaptability" kind of thing.
Speaking of which, wonder how Tera Types are gonna work with Abilities like Adaptability. If Adaptability gives a boost on top of the Super STAB then (if these Pokemon are in) Crawdaunt, Porygon-Z, Basculin (Basculegion?), Dragalge, and Gumshoos will have some fun.

Oh, right, EEVEE gets Adaptability. I wonder if that's a reason why its oddly heavily showcased with Terastal.

Also think about this:

Dry Skin, Storm Drain, & Water Absorb user becoming Ground/Rock/Fire-type.
Flash Fire user becoming Bug/Grass/Ice/Steel-type.
Sap Sipper user becoming Ground/Rock/Water-type.
Lightning Rod, Motor Drive & Volt Absorb user becoming Flying/Water-type.

RIP to all the Showdown personnel who will spend weeks importing hundreds of crystal pokemon sprites only to have it banned immediately after.
Showdown Staff: HA! In your dreams. We're just gonna add an image of the crown above the Pokemon's sprite and a transparent colored gem filter over the Pokemon.

Cetitan is really cool IMO. The idea of a whale that lives on land is interesting considering that real-life whales are mammals that adapted to living in water.
We got them in real life too. They're called Hippopotamus. I'm not joking.

This Rodimus Prime-looking car (belonging to evil team?) has no driver, Transformers x Pokemon crossover confirmed.
GF Staff: Wanna show the cool van but don't want to show the driver yet, better decrease his opacity to zero. Why the van is driving on its own would only make people more curious about it!

Gym Leaders having fixed levels like Battle Facilities was always something I wondered could be implemented, so I wonder if this is the case.
Question is how would it work.

  • Would the Gym Leader's Pokemon be set to your highest Pokemon's Level?

  • Is there a "Set Level" which would also be applied to your Pokemon if they're over that Level (and with each Badge it increases though you never know what that actual Level is)?

  • Also does the Gym Leader's team remain the same no matter how many Badges you have or will your number of Badges affect their team? If so and they have unevolved Pokemon on their early teams do they remain like that no matter what your Levels are or did they take something like that into account and allow them to evolve under certain circumstance? (I previously said I think all their aces could be single stage so for them don't have to worry about that, and with that said if they include the right Pokemon and make any missing gaps they could just have all Gym Leaders use single stage Pokemon).

I think you might get split usage or even both on one team. Pooper's weakness to ice just guarantees it won't be as good at stopping Waters as the others. But, it definitely gives Ground monotype a decent answer to opponents carrying both water and grass moves (specially with this new gimmick).

I'm kinda curious what outcompeted Wooper in the new region.
P-Wooper could still be a safe switch into a Water-type Move, not only getting no damage but also healing.

"In ancient times, Wooper lived underwater in the Paldea region. But it seems after losing in a struggle for territory, they began living in bogs on land". This doesn't necessarily mean another Pokemon pushed it out of its territory (though, with the way its written, an invasive species could be a possibility, we've already experimented with that idea with some of the Alolan forms). It could also be losing its territory to human expansion. Or there's a natural phenomenon that's happening which is doing something to the water they used to live in, drying them up or changing their mineral composition which makes it unlivable for Wooper (Wooper look to be a fresh water animal, so it salty sea water started to seep into old territory would not be good for them).

At Page 40, at the time of writing this have 9 more pages to go. Gonna stop here so this post isn't a page upon itself.

Here what I suspect the legend’s base stats are gonna look like (it’s probably at least a little obvious but I’m throwing it out here anyways):
Koraidon: 100/150/150/80/110/90
Miraidon: 90/80/110/150/150/100
And yes, 80 is most likely the new minimum for major-legendary base stats thanks to Zacian and Zamazenta.

Now to wait 3 and a half months and see how correct this is.

I was being serious. It’s not GaMe FrEaK lAzInEsS to not want to make 9000 unique models, and I much prefer a universal formula so every mon uses the gimmick than neat models but only for a select few.

Here are Koraidon and Miraidon. They're lizards that turn into a car.
They're lizards that turn into a car. Also one of them has wheels that don't spin.
I looked at the map and I noticed these things that look like giant, tilted and rusty(?) objects (idk how else could I describe them). They're scattered in the majority of Paldea. If I had to guess, I think these objects make Terastallization possible.

Those are paelleras. We use them to make paella and sometimes when doing so in at the beachside they get caught by the sea current and end up in every kind of strange places. Altho at this point you are pretty much familiarized with it, here you have elaborate information about this phenomena.

“No characters resonate with my dick”
“Seems to be in consideration of the LGBTQs”

yes this is legitimate criticism GF should definitely take seriously/s
Why not? Last I checked, many of the more profitable Japanese IPs involved appealing character designs. It's not exactly a coincidence that things like "Smash or Pass" involving Pokemon have such huge traction. Meanwhile, many pieces of western media that ignore such criticisms such as WB seem to be in the process of losing money and cancelling projects.

In case you forgot, Pokemon's first Japanese commercial marketed towards its Japanese audience involved an innuendo of a young woman meeting up with a group of old men in an incredibly suggestive manner. Next day, Pokemon was a success. Seems like marketing worth taking seriously, if ya ask me.

Can't believe I'm watching anyone under the age of 50 using the term woke unironically to describe any aspect of a piece of media's design.

I think all of the children characters so far look like ugly PBS cartoon people and most of the adult characters look sort of off compared to the anime people we're use to in Pokemon. Its not a particularly hard opinion to articulate. Jumping to woke as a descriptor for something you don't like and giving vivid descriptors of a fantasy strawman is telling on yourself a bit too much. Maybe take a nice hard look at the social environments you're stooped in if people using that around you are the norm.

Also crediting random japanese folks posting on the internet for making Pokemon is like crediting 4chan posters for making Cyberpunk 2077.
You should try getting out more cuz a good many people I talk to face to face say the same stuff about modern media with all the parties I get invited to. My social circle tends to consist of intellectual college graduates that are at jobs they like, so I don't really see what point you're trying to make with that. You sure you're not the one making a fantasy strawman? Cuz trying to talk down on a person's company when you know nothing about them seems alot like an ad hominem logical fallacy.

Heck, one of my friends is an incredibly large individual. The kind that was a top heavyweight wrestler in high school. He's jolly, humorous, smart and has helped encourage me to socialize personally more and to get more exercise to build muscle and upper body strength. He's the kind of guy who can be very patient, but if things got physical, he could shred someone like a sheet. All things considered, I'm pretty thankful and lucky to have friends like that that encourage me to reach greater heights and like being around me.

It just seems to be a huge lacking of self-awareness. People that throw out the word "weeb" but then devote their entire lives, personalities and thougths to a piece of Japanese media is easily the definition of hypocrisy.

1. I am japanese
2. I think the designs are ugly I'm just not stupid enough to use wokeness and get cranky over gay people about it. You see I actually have a brain and can criticize designs for their colors and shapes and fashion.
3. L + Ratio or whatever the kids say
Guess the ratio goes against you then since so many other JP people are saying similar things about their hatred of "policoro" character designs throughout a wide variety of sites. Ugly and woke designs usually go hand in hand anyway.

Koraidon not using its wheels feels like a deliberate inside joke among the designers that they found funny. It's almost certainly a weird Flintstones reference/joke that they took to the max and went through with it because they found it amusing.

The fact that Miraidon is using its wheels means that Koraidon not doing so almost feels intentional and an in-joke the designers thought would be amusing and they decided to roll with it. It's definitely on-purpose and they know it.

Or Air Balloon Shedinja. Or really Shedinja period. (I assume this gen will not have Shedinja).

Like, I like the concept of this gimmick, but there's some scary stuff people could do with it.

(I previously said I think all their aces could be single stage so for them don't have to worry about that, and with that said if they include the right Pokemon and make any missing gaps they could just have all Gym Leaders use single stage Pokemon).
The way I see it, there's 3 types of fights:

Trash fights. Wilds, rando trainers, evil team grunts, etc.
Major story fights. Rivals, Evil Team Admins, etc.
Gym leaders.

Each of those has different expectations, and causes different problems, so the first question is whether they'll all be handled the same way. If they are, that makes balance a lot harder.
Trash fights, the concern is player grinding. If I can rush to an endgame area and throw my first 10 balls at the first big thing I see, then curbstomp 90% of the game because of overleveling, that's a problem. If I can find a midgame trainer who has a really bad team and gain 10 levels off them pre-gym 2, that's a problem. They can put artificial walls in place, you can't catch high-level pokemon or rando trainers don't battle you without enough badges, but that often feels bad and fake. They can also just level everything based on your current badge count(or whatever marker they want to use), but again, that feels very fake. Not sure the solution here.
Major fights, rivals and similar, are actually easier. GF can tie them to story beats rather than location. You win 3 badges, you face Rival Team #2 when leaving the next town. You've beaten your first Evil Team Base, face Admin Team #1 at the end. It's not perfect, but definitely possible.
Gym Leaders, there's a storyline justification for them to scale the gym leader's team based on your number of badges, the gym leader is evaluating your skill rather than trying to win. Whatever order you face them in, Gym Leader Ace is = player badge count + 2 * 5. Yes, they have to make different teams for every possible badge level you can face the Gym Leader at, but they've done that before for Rematches, and I think it's not going to add too much work.
*snipped*
What exactly are your complaints? "Not sexy enough"? The professors are a DILF and a MILF. And it's a game for children, anyway. "Penny looks like an annoying middle schooler"? Considering the character is in middle school, that seems to fit. "Too many characters have traits that I stereotypically associate with gay people"? That seems like a you problem.

I'll be honest I don't really get what point you're trying to make. Animating a wheel spinning is a lot easier and less costy than a walk cycle (even if that in itself also isn't particularly hard). It doesn't really make sense to say its a budget issue when the alternative they went with clearly was not more cost-effective.

People really gotta stop jumping to "They're lazy/they're doing things in a low budget way" to whatever GameFreak choice that they disagree with

And it's a game for children, anyway.
That makes zero difference as better monster collectors like Digimon, Yo-Kai Watch and Dragon Quest Monsters are also aimed at the same demographics and have no issue making monsters or characters that have cleavage.

On a related note, a friend shared this with me and it made me giggle, so it seems appropriate to post.

Kids these days play Fortnite while most surveys seem to suggest Pokemon's actual audience is nostalgic 20 and 30 somethings.

That seems like a you problem.
Not really. Look earlier in the thread and you'll notice I'm not even the one that brought up the "woke designs". Someone else did and the fact a good number of others share this complaint proves you dead wrong that it's not just me.

Again, Sada and Turo are in this, so I'm not sure why you think the games don't have any sexy characters. Do you have any other complaints?
Plenty that don't involve the character designs that others are complaining about, to which you had no counterargument for.

I got banned cuz I posted a joke image in response to a mod posting a joke image. Not sure why I'm getting singled out for talking about a topic someone else brought into the thread but whatever.

Enough.

Get back to discussing released information or go find somewhere else to talk about it. If you can't the thread will just get locked even faster.

We don't need discussions like the one that is happening right now in this forum. It's entirely irrelevant to Smogon and to Orange Islands in general. We don't need to talk about "how sexy the characters are" because it's entirely irrelevant. Stop being so thirsty, they are videogame characters. Go talk about that on 4chan or somewhere it's actually acceptable.

DrCoeloCephalo you've been warned about this stuff on the Smogon discord which I'm pretty sure you were banned from. Knock it off.

I'll be completely honest, I don't really get what your point is.

I never talked about budget nor did I talk recently about they being lazy. I just said that I didn't like the wheel on Kuraidon not spinning, then you quoted me saying something about budget or a story I don't comprehend, to me, it was like you talking to me about you eating a snak with your friends in a picknik while doing sudokus; nothing I care about nor I talked about either. That's the sole reason why I answered you: "are you saying GF runs a low budget?" Because you, and only you, were the one that quoted me introducing 1) budget and 2) game freak being lazy.

I repeat, in my original comment, I just said that I didn't like the fact that Kuraidon wheel doesn't spin, and it feels like you may've mistaken my post with someone's else running an entirely different discussion.

PS: I won't talk anymore about this since this doesn't directly concern the games, but I feel I have the right to answer you directly in a public forum since I've not talked about the things you added on your first quote.

Or Air Balloon Shedinja. Or really Shedinja period. (I assume this gen will not have Shedinja).
I'm unsure why people even think "tera shedinja" would be scary, it's a poke with very low stats, vulnerable to mold breaker and toxic / entry hazards / weather / random passive stuff.

"Tera shedinja" reminds me a lot of when people thought that skill swap wonder guard burn up arcanine was going to be good. Sure fun low ladder gimmicks I guess, nothing that's remotely scary in competitive.

Even "adaptability Kyogre" is not scarier than regular Dynamaxed Kyogre. Damage output is almost the same, except "Tera Kyogre" is not setting rain with every water attack which is a strict downgrade.

I agree that things like air balloon shedinja will be nothing more than a fun gimmick, but I'm not on the same page at all on adaptability/superstab. Sure, superstab kyogre might not do much more damage than dmax (altho with water spout its not rly the case but on more regular attacks thats pretty accurate). But dmax, as powerful as it is, is also a mechanic that comes with a huge defensive benefit, and as someone who plays a bunch of randbats (aka a format with dynamax), a huge amount of my dynamaxes are used defensively, not offensively, to check whatever sweeper went out of control or prevent them from even getting to that point in the first place.

I'm not too sure what counterplay tera would bring me against a superstab sweeper. Sure, I might potentially have the correct teratype, but even then, it's not going to be better than.... a regular defensive mon that already has that type to begin with. I'm not really *gaining* anything by using a defensive tera that another mon couldn't fit. Exception goes to Clef/Quag, I guess, as Unaware can invalidate certain mons, and its so poorly distributed - having flexibility in the type of your Unaware user would be a huge deal, allowing it to more or less blanket check totally different chunks of the metagame depending on the type you pick. But other than that I'm not seeing much use for defensive tera (or very limited at best) and the mechanic at large feels very tilted towards offense, like Z-moves were.

edit: Of course this is all dependent on the value of the superstab. Everyone seems to be assuming it's an extra 1.5, but it could very well be a lot more tame. And tbh I hope it's more tame, x1.5 would probably lead to a ban, but I kinda want to play a gen with the gimmick in, not another gen without it.

Ok so on a worldbuilding note, I've seen something pointed out that's rather uh, odd to put it lightly.

Now Game Freak likes to base the buildings of their regions on real life ones. This is no secret. Lumiose Tower is an obvious Eiffel Tower analogue, and most recently we got the Galaxy Hall in PLA being modeled after the former Hokkaido Government Building. As such, it would follow that the academy in SV would also have a real-world basis.

Here's the thing though. They didn't pick a Spanish school, or even some other public office. No, they picked the La Model Prison.

I'll let some choice lines from the linked article do the talking:
“Sometimes when a prisoner had complained about something, the guards would take them away at night time and whip them. Some died in the basements, and we could hear their screams”
“In the cells there was an iron bunk bed and another single bed,” explains Carlos, “with dirty mattresses; filthy, stuffed with straw, and full of insects... full of bedbugs. We had to set the beds on fire to try to kill the bedbugs, but then they would just climb the walls and fall from the ceiling instead”. “On top of that, they gave you a disgusting blanket,” says Carlos, “a military blanket, that was stiff because of so many people wanking on it”.

There's also one more part that really caught my eye in regards to the possibility of this being symbolic:
"For the political prisoners, their time in La Model was one of education, of training, and of reaffirming dedication to their causes. Some inmates nicknamed La Model ‘the Ideological Island’, as it was sometimes easier to discuss politics inside the prison than it was outside. This meant that when some prisoners came out of La Model, they would often emerge with their original views reinforced, as Gabriel tells me: “I wasn't a member of any party when I went to prison, but when I got out, I joined the Bandera Roja [a Spanish Communist Party].”

I don't know fully what to make of this.

People really gotta stop jumping to "They're lazy/they're doing things in a low budget way" to whatever GameFreak choice that they disagree with
Eh, more of a bad joke involving an anime named Kemono Friends that was a sleeper hit a few years back despite a low budget that famously had such a low budget that they couldn't animate the tires spinning in the intro (or so they say)

I looked at the map and I noticed these things that look like giant, tilted and rusty(?) objects (idk how else could I describe them). They're scattered in the majority of Paldea. If I had to guess, I think these objects make Terastallization possible.

That's an interesting way to see them, I was just assuming they're meant for the player to climb and jump off from so they can glide with the legendaries

Given Pokémon Villains' track record it would not surprise me for the director to be a twist villain

I still file it on overreaction.
Priority moves exist.
(prankster) Status exists.
Intimidate / similar debuffs exist.
Flinch exists (unless Teralized pokes are immune to it but i wouldn't see why they would, the main reason Dynamax was immune to it was cause it's a 3 turn thing and they didn't want you to basically be denied a turn every time)
Faster pokemon exist
(for many times) immunities and resists exist
And most of all, remember notably that the main competitive format is doubles, and frail high damage sweepers always had issues thriving because double target also exists (so does redirection).
