85 Hp/76 Attack/64 Defense/45 Special Attack/55 Special Defense/90 Speed

No thread for this lovable little weasel? Furret, while still in UU territory, has gotten plenty of new toys to play with in D/P. His stats aren't the greatest, and his abilites are nigh useless, but he can be surprisingly good with a Choice Band. I was also surprised to find out that despite the fact that he seems frail, he actually narrowly survives a STAB'd EQ from an Adamant, max attack Rhyperior without having any EVs in HP or Defense, granted that Rhyperior didn't Swords Dance. Not that he'd be fighting Rhyperior in the first place, but notable nontheless.

Notable Physical movepool
Sucker Punch
Focus Punch
Return/Frustration
Brick Break
Iron Tail
Shadow Claw
Giga Impact
Double-Edge
Pursuit
Reversal
Last Resort
Fire Punch
Thunderpunch
Ice Punch

Furret has a pretty impressive physical movepool to work with, with a lot of coverage, which definitely works to his advantage. Elemental Punches becoming physical makes Furret happy. By the way, you get those from the Emerald Move Tutor, in case anyone was wondering.

Notable Special movepool (LOL)

Hyper Voice
Ice Beam
Blizzard
Hyper Beam
Solarbeam
Thunderbolt
Thunder
Shadow Ball
Flamethrower
Focus Blast
Charge Beam
Grass Knot
Surf (Imagine surfing on top of this thing?)

Really bizzare and diverse special movepool he has, but he can't use it for crap with that pathetic 45 base special attack.

Notable Support movepool

Helping Hand
Thief
Follow Me
Rest
Amnesia
Trick
Baton Pass
Sunny Day
Rain Dance
Endure
Swagger
Substitute
Charm

Not bad, but support isn't really Furret's forte, IMO. I might've missed some stuff... let me know if I did.

All in all, Furret, like most normal types, has an astounding movepool with diversity out and wazoo. But how well can he actually make use of it? Let's take a look.

Movesets

Furret @ Choice Band
Jolly Nature
EVs: 252 Speed, 252 Attack, 6 HP
-Brick Break
-Thunderpunch
-Ice Punch
-Sucker Punch

This set hits 13 of the 17 types for SE damage. Might not look like much at first glance, but Choice Band makes Furret's attack a respectable 376, while it is able to outspeed a fair few things with 306 speed. Obviously still UU because other things can do it better, but Furret is just so damn cool that we can forgive him, no? He can potentially do a lot of damage/kill things in OU with this in the hands of the right player, if you're up for a challenge. To be more specific, Bissey hates CB'd Brick Break, and CB'd Sucker Punch surprises the hell of CS Kazam and Gengar. Alternatively, you can run Adamant if you perfer power over speed, just be aware that Furret doesn't appreciate taking too many strong hits.

Furret @ Choice Band/Scarf
Jolly/Adamant Nature
EVs: 252 Speed, 252 Attack, 6 HP
-Trick
-Sucker Punch
-Focus Punch
-U-turn

Typical trickbanding set. Adamant if you want Scarf, Jolly if you want Band. I perfer Scarf here over Band, since it gives Furret the speed advantage and pretty much guarentees that you pull off the Trick, and the percentage of Pokemon that are ruined by Scarf far outnumber the ones that are ruined by Band, especially this gen which is predominately physical. Anyway, you can either Trick away your choice item, or use it. If you manage to trick it on a set-up move, use Focus Punch on the switch, and then U-turn out. Otherwise, you can Sucker Punch them and U-turn out when you're done. If you're like me you can't predict worth a shit, this set will fail.

Furret @ Choice Glasses
Modest Nature
EVs: 252 Speed, 252 Special Attack, 6 HP
-Ice Beam/Blizzard
-Thunderbolt/Thunder
-Shadow Ball
-Focus Blast/Surf/Grass Knot

Don't do it. <_<

Furret is my favorite Pokemon, and I was glad to see him get a nice upgrade in D/P. His stats aren't great, and he may be slightly overshadowed by Lopunny, but his diverse movepool makes him a contender in UU, if that is where he does end up. I do have one gripe though - his abilitlies. PLEASE, Gamefreak, Furret is begging for a good abilility. The right ability would make a world of difference.

This has been my first post at Smogon. I hope you all enjoyed reading it, and I hope that you will leave your input on this furry little critter.

I would also give a mention to Me First, consiering it has decent speed base at 90 (I guess), Choice Scarf or whatever

Furret@Choice Band
- Me First
- Sucker Punch
- Trick
- U Turn

yea Trick Band something slower than you, and then abuse Me First perhaps? I have No idea...

Situational, but yeah, I guess it could work.

I just noticed that I put an exclamation mark at the end of my tread title. FAR too perky. <_<

Dangit. I wanted to have my first post for Furret. Oh well, I can't cry over spilt milk and all.

Furret @ Choice Scarf
Jolly(+Spd -SAtk)
Keen Eye; 132Spd, 252Atk, 126HP
- Trick
- Me First (?)
- Pursuit
- U-Turn

Thats my weasel version of Persian. Jolly & 132 Spd EVs and choice scarf is enough to outspeed anything that has a Spd+ nature with 252Spd EVs, aka Ninjask. Use trick to give anyone that may start with a stat inducing move to screw them up, pretty much eliminating them. Or use U-Turn to escape to a great counter for the foe. Use Me First once you get rid of the band and you think they'll still stay in, or use pursuit if they try to escape. THEN U-Turn out of there. Pretty much flawless, except other Pursuit users and people who predict you using trick.

furret base HP is 85 not 80

Thanks. I'll go fix it.

I like FP/Sucker Punch over Me First and Pursuit. If you can predict, plays some serious mindgames with the foe. Trick the Scarf to them on the first turn, if they use a stat-up, Focus Punch. Otherwise, Sucker Punch. It's fun, but won't do much damage...

Oh, but thanks for posting another set and for participating in the thread. :)

Huh. Focus Punch. I didn't consider that... But wouldn't a full power return do more? 102 + STAB would be 151, which is one more damage than focus punch without the risk. Correct me if I'm wrong, though, as I don't really know the battle system's mechanics.

Oh. I didn't notice. Yeah, I think Return's base power after STAB is 153. I guess it really is better, but Focus Punch is fun for mind games, lol. Plus, FP might hit stuff for SE on the switch-in. You'd only be using FP if you Tricked on a stat-upping move, anyway, so prediction might not be a problem. If you don't want FP, Double Edge can go there too if you don't mind the re-coil. Furret needs as much power as it can get with no CB to boost it's Attack.

Btw, Me First on that set is flawed, because Me First only works if you're already faster than the foe, and tricking away the Scarf will probably make whatever you Tricked it to faster than Furret. Bummer. That's why I like Sucker Punch better.

About Me First though... Does it copy the exact move that the opponent uses? Example: If the opponent used Flamethrower, and Furret used Me First, does Furret use Flamethrower at x1.5 Flamethrower's BP (as in, a 142 BP Flamethrower?) or does it work like an inverse Counter, where Furret does x1.5 the damage that they are about to do BEFORE he gets hit?

If I recall correctly, they fixed Return's base power to just 100...I checked the move thread but I couldn't find anything so someone slap me if I missed something totally obvious. x3

Anyway, Me First copies the move at 1.5x the base power.

Hey SimChao sorry for the late reply I was so busy this week!~

Yay you used my Furret moveset! I'm going to Ev train one right now, but do you know where you can find one in Diamond? Once I do, I'm going to show all my friends how powerful it is. >:] That's the good thing about Furret... its so unpredictable and people never see it coming until it destroys teams!

I see. So FP all the way.

Your moveset was good, Kristy. I was impressed.

But Furret is more for playing mind games than powerhousing. I'm going to try leading with a Jolly CS Trick/Sucker Punch/FP/U-turn Furret for either Tricking people's leads or U-turning to a counter and saving the Trick for later, depending on what they lead with. I carry Blissey, Lucario, and Gliscor as well to counter the common Starmie, Weavile, and Hera leads, respectively. Choice Scarf Furret outspeeds Weavile and CS Hera, and Starmie usually carries Specs over Scarf so that should be no problem, either.

Furret is begging for Frisk as an ability. It could potentially be the game's top Trickbander with Frisk, having an ideal movepool for Trickbanding. Plus it just makes sense, since weasels have a reputation of being thieves. Are you listening, Gamefreak?

Focus punch does a very good job of destroy Rocks/Steels, something return can't do.

True, and Furret needs that on this set since Sucker Punch (and U-turn, for that matter) are resisted by steels. Though I can't imagine how Furret would ever manage to pull off a Focus Punch...
