Potential Porn Ban in the UK

I dunno if I'm looking at this right, but I actually think porn reduces the amount of rapes that would be committed if there was no porn. I just feel that some people need to get their kicks, and they're going to get it. But if they can choose between going to prison, or looking at something on the internet, I think most would chose the latter.

From what I understand, there is also a clause in the bill that says something along the lines of "and anything else that is self-damaging". So basically so they can easily ban any other website they want for any reason they want.

Well, I mean, we still have problems with rape in the USA despite having access to porn, but that theory does hold water. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

Oh yeah, you're still going to have sex offenders, but does porn reduce the amount of sex offenders? I like to think so.

Your theory doesn't hold a lot of water, since (off the top of my head) I don't think there's been any sharp decrease in the number of sexual assaults when VHS was released (late 70s/early 80s), or during the dot com bubble (late 90s), in any country. The porn industry was behind a lot of the push for VHS because hey, they saw a far better opportunity to sell their wares because obviously people would prefer to watch that kind of shit in the privacy of their own homes, and likewise with the internet adding an extra degree of privacy and more widespread availability/advertising. In fact, in Australia, which generally speaking has little to no censorship, records of sexual assault have been on the rise since at least the early 90s (I just can't be fucked making an effort to look up more stats on the subject from before that time period). So yeah.

Also I think the whole idea is fucking ridiculous to begin with.

Weapons of mass seduction are banned, but not weapons of mass destruction? Fucking shit. There are far worse problems to be contending with.

This 'bill' which seeks a ban/put restrictions on porn, while far from becoming reality, you have to applaud the logic that seeks to put adults enjoying legal erotica in the privacy of their own homes, in the same prison as rapists. It’s really sad to see the State tamper with the sacred bond between a man and his computer.

From what I have read, it seems that the backers of this bill contend that porn leads to a rise in violent sexual crimes, which is like saying that Terminator caused people to turn into cyborg assassins. lol.

Nobody thinks that real-life is like a porno. If it were, this issue could have been resolved by a cheerleader who gets lost and lands up at the petitioner’s house, and they figure out a mutually beneficial arrangement involving tacky synth beats and vigorous religious invocations.

looks like too broad a bill for an intent so specific!

fuck the system!
It was posted in the Headline of the Day thread, but a very similar situation happened recently in Florida when they accidentally banned computers.

It was partially because of the wording, but also because the Florida legislators had no fucking clue what they were doing with regards to computers. They banned anything with access to gambling websites.

Let me put that in perspective with a few devices that would be banned: iPhones, computers, cars with Internet, even your fucking 3DS.

If the potential bill isn't aptly worded around banning certain types of porn, British people might be in for a serious problem.
