SS OU Primaphalon Balance (1600s)

Introduction:

Primarina has been my favorite starter evolution starting from gen 7. It faces quite a lot of competition with pokemons like fini but I feel like it is a unique threat in OU, being able to break through many teams. So far, I found out that the specs set works best and it synergises very well with blacephalon.

The team:

1.
:ss/Primarina:

Primarina @ Choice Specs
Ability: Torrent
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hydro Pump
- Moonblast
- Psychic
- Scald

This is the breaker of the team. The HP EVs make it possible to tank a +2 Volcarona giga drain, making it possible to hard switch in when Volcarona doesn't have any stat boosts. Scald is there because I wanted a 100% accuracy water move and hopefully get a burn. Moonblast and Hydro Pump are probably the only two moves being clicked most of the time.

Calcs:
  • 252 SpA Volcarona Giga Drain vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Primarina: 148-176 (40.6 - 48.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
  • 252+ SpA Choice Specs Primarina Scald vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Volcarona: 408-480 (131.1 - 154.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  • 252+ SpA Choice Specs Primarina Hydro Pump vs. 252 HP / 88 SpD Corviknight: 300-354 (75 - 88.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
  • 252+ SpA Choice Specs Primarina Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Clefable: 271-321 (68.7 - 81.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
  • 252+ Atk Bisharp Iron Head vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Primarina: 178-211 (48.9 - 57.9%) -- 97.7% chance to 2HK
  • 252+ SpA Choice Specs Primarina Moonblast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Bisharp: 336-396 (123.9 - 146.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

2.
:ss/Blacephalon:

Blacephalon @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Beast Boost
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Flamethrower
- Mind Blown
- Shadow Ball
- Psyshock

This is the speed control and late game sweeper of the team. It is very useful at revenge killing a lot of pokemon, possibly going for a sweep with beast boost. Mind Blown is there in clutch situations during endgame, being able to OHKO Zamazenta-C and Nidoking at max. It is not clicked 90% of the time as you can't afford to die from rocks. Psyshock is there to revenge kill meteor beam Nihilego. It is otherwise useless but I don't feel like running trick on this team.

Calcs:
  • 252 SpA Blacephalon Mind Blown vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Nidoking: 346-408 (114.1 - 134.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  • 252 SpA Blacephalon Mind Blown vs. 64 HP / 0 SpD Zamazenta-Crowned: 396-468 (116.1 - 137.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  • 252 SpA Blacephalon Mind Blown vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Tapu Koko: 346-408 (123.1 - 145.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  • 252 SpA Tapu Koko Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Blacephalon in Electric Terrain: 186-220 (75.3 - 89%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
  • 252 SpA Blacephalon Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 128+ SpD Heatran: 112-133 (29 - 34.4%) -- 99.8% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

3.
:ss/Garchomp:
Garchomp @ Life Orb
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fire Fang
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Scale Shot

This is my main physical attacker and possible sweeper. It can check Zapdos and probably sweep with a few swords dances. I feel like this is one of those matchup pokemon, as it is either almost completely useless or the best pokemon on the team. It synergises decently with the offensive core, resisting most electric pokemon. Fire fang is there to hit Corviknight or Skarmory.

Calcs:
  • +4 252 Atk Life Orb Garchomp Fire Fang vs. 252 HP / 168+ Def Corviknight: 413-489 (103.2 - 122.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  • +4 252 Atk Life Orb Garchomp Fire Fang vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Skarmory: 315-372 (94.3 - 111.3%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO
  • +1 252 SpA Volcarona Bug Buzz vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Garchomp: 259-306 (72.5 - 85.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
  • +4 252 Atk Life Orb Garchomp Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 192+ Def Tapu Fini: 437-515 (127 - 149.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

4.
:ss/Corviknight:

Corviknight @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Impish Nature
- Brave Bird
- Body Press
- Roost
- Defog

Pretty standard physical defensive Corviknight. Max defense to check Kartana, Rillaboom and Zamazenta better. Body press is worth it on this set as I want Bisharp and Tyranitar gone ASAP.

Calcs:
  • 252+ Def Corviknight Body Press vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Kartana: 132-156 (50.9 - 60.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
  • 0 Atk Corviknight Brave Bird vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Rillaboom: 252-296 (73.9 - 86.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Grassy Terrain recovery
  • 252+ Def Corviknight Body Press vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Bisharp: 332-392 (122.5 - 144.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
  • 252+ Def Corviknight Body Press vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 304-360 (75.2 - 89.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

5.
:ss/Landorus-Therian:

Landorus-Therian (M) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 112 Def / 52 SpD / 92 Spe
Impish Nature
- Stealth Rock
- U-turn
- Earthquake
- Toxic

Landorus-T because why not. It is a stealth rock setter, also being a Heatran and Zeraora check. Toxic is pretty nice to cripple down walls such as Slowking. Speed EVs are for heatran, magnezone and bisharp. A bit of Spdef just in case.

Calcs:
  • 252 Atk Zeraora Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 252 HP / 112+ Def Landorus-Therian: 85-100 (22.2 - 26.1%) -- 11.1% chance to 4HKO
  • 0 SpA Heatran Magma Storm vs. 252 HP / 52 SpD Landorus-Therian: 153-180 (40 - 47.1%) -- 38.7% chance to 2HKO after trapping damage
  • 252+ SpA Heatran Eruption (150 BP) vs. 252 HP / 52 SpD Landorus-Therian: 304-358 (79.5 - 93.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
  • 0 Atk Landorus-Therian Earthquake vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Tyranitar: 272-324 (67.3 - 80.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
  • +1 252+ Atk Black Glasses Bisharp Sucker Punch vs. 252 HP / 112+ Def Landorus-Therian: 195-229 (51 - 59.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

6.
:ss/Tangrowth:

Tangrowth @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 8 Def / 248 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Focus Blast
- Giga Drain
- Knock Off
- Sludge Bomb

Needed a grass type and good special wall. Assault Vest Tangrowth seems to be it as it can stop basically all of the Tapus. Getting a free knock off is very good if they decide to pivot out with Koko. It tanks a hit from Lele and knocks the specs off. This pokemon came clutch in a lot of games.

Calcs:
  • 252 SpA Choice Specs Tapu Lele Psyshock vs. 252 HP / 8 Def Tangrowth in Psychic Terrain: 210-247 (51.9 - 61.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
  • 252 SpA Choice Specs Tapu Koko Dazzling Gleam vs. 252 HP / 248+ SpD Assault Vest Tangrowth: 115-136 (28.4 - 33.6%) -- 0.5% chance to 3HKO

Threatlist:

:Kyurem:
Breaks down this team kinda hard. Use damage calc to check if it is specs damage. If it is, Primarina should be able to handle ice beam. If it isn't, Corviknight can do the job.

:Kartana:The swords dance variant especially. Corv can mostly check but make sure it is healthy.

:Mamoswine:Hits everything super hard except for Corviknight. Primarina can take 1 hit and reverse kill. Same applies to Weavile.

Any feedback and help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Pretty cool team but personally I would prefer using leftovers>rocky helmet on Landorus-T, This also allows you to give the rocky helmet to Tangrowth and allow it to use Sleep Powder which in my opinion can come in extremely handy
