[OVERVIEW]

Few Pokemon resist Primarina's STAB combination of Water and Fairy, making it a massive threat capable of threatening defensive Pokemon such as Jirachi, Celesteela, and Kommo-o. Its typing also shines defensively, allowing it to face Pokemon such as Keldeo and Kommo-o. Psychic covers the only answers to its STAB combination in Amoonguss and Tentacruel, and Calm Mind allows it to more easily get past common checks such as Tangrowth, Amoonguss, and Slowking. Calm Mind also punishes the aforementioned checks when they try to switch in to scout for Choice Specs sets. Unfortunately, Primarina has very low Speed, often forcing it to take a hit from Pokemon it's supposed to answer, such as Keldeo, before KOing them back. Its similarly low Defense stat makes it 2HKOed by even resisted hits such as Choice Specs Keldeo's Secret Sword after Stealth Rock damage and Crawdaunt's Crabhammer, so it can't check them well despite having the type advantage. Primarina faces some competition from Azumarill as a Water- and Fairy-type wallbreaker, as Azumarill acts a physical wallbreaker, can pressure walls with Knock Off, and has priority in Aqua Jet to make up for the lack of Speed, letting it check Pokemon like Nihilego and Lycanroc-D a lot more comfortably.

move 2: Moonblast
move 3: Psychic
move 4: Scald
item: Choice Specs

evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Psychic does copious amounts of damage to would-be checks in Amoonguss and Tentacruel. After Stealth Rock, Amoonguss risks being OHKOed. Scald is used as a reliable Water-type move when risking Hydro Pump is unnecessary. It also has a 30% chance to burn switch-ins, making it so Primarina can take physical attacks a bit better and wear down Amoonguss, Tangrowth, and Tentacruel. A Modest nature lets Primarina 2HKO Pokemon like Celesteela and specially defensive Jirachi with Hydro Pump, but a Timid nature lets it outspeed Adamant Bisharp and Modest Volcanion.

This set aims to punch holes through the raw power of Primarina's Choice Specs-boosted moves. Tapu Bulu and Scizor appreciate Primarina's ability to power through their checks in Celesteela and Jirachi. In return, Swords Dance Tapu Bulu removes Amoonguss with +2 Zen Headbutt, while Knock Off Scizor removes Tentacruel's Black Sludge and Volcanion's Heavy-Duty Boots with Knock Off, making it so Primarina can pressure them more easily. Scizor also acts a check to Kyurem, one of the few Dragon-types that can actually threaten Primarina. Chandelure beats Amoonguss and Assault Vest Tangrowth,(AC) and some variants pressure Chansey for Primarina. Zeraora hits Water-types such as Tentacruel and Volcanion. Scizor can bring in Primarina safely with U-turn in front of Pokemon like Salamence and Celesteela, making up for its low Speed. Ground-types such as Rhyperior handle Electric-types like Zeraora and Thundurus-T. Rhyperior can also set Stealth Rock up to help Primarina wallbreak. Amoonguss and Tangrowth deal with Tapu Bulu for Primarina. Chansey walls Primarina effortlessly, so Fighting-types such as Keldeo and Kommo-o can be used to threaten it. Primarina can be easily worn down by entry hazards, so a Wish passer like Jirachi can help it stay in the match for longer. In the same vein, entry hazard removers like Salamence and Tentacruel extend Primarina's longevity. Hazard setters in Skarmory and Kommo-o wear down Primarina's checks like Amoonguss and Tangrowth through Spikes and Stealth Rock,(AC) respectively.

[SET COMMENTS]

Calm Mind is used to let Primarina get past checks like Assault Vest Tangrowth and Tentacruel. Scald is a reliable Water-type STAB move and can help wear down checks like Assault Vest Tangrowth and Amoonguss with its burn chance. Psychic easily 2HKOes Amoonguss and OHKO it at +1 after Stealth Rock damage, while Tentacruel gets easily worn down due to a lack of reliable recovery. It also helps Primarina against neutral targets such as Volcanion. If your team lacks consistent entry hazard removal, Heavy-Duty Boots can be run as a way to check threats like Keldeo and Salamence with more consistency. Leftovers can be used if your team can reliably remove hazards for Primarina. A Modest nature lets Primarina 2HKO Pokemon like Celesteela and specially defensive Jirachi with Hydro Pump, but a Timid nature lets it outspeed Modest Volcanion and Magnezone.

This set fits nicely on balance and bulky offense teams, since Primarina can utilize its good defensive typing and Special Defense to switch into Suicune and moves like Flamethrower from defensive Salamence and Kommo-o to then set up or hit them back. Nidoqueen, Nihilego, and Tentacruel are fine teammates for Primarina. The first two can set Stealth Rock or Toxic Spikes to help Primarina break through the opposing team, while Tentacruel can remove entry hazards with Rapid Spin, which is especially helpful if Leftovers is chosen in place of Heavy-Duty Boots. If running Leftovers, Salamence makes a great teammate and Defogger, acting as a check to Pokemon like Scizor. Due to Primarina's bad Defense and Speed, it appreciates pivots like Scizor, Jirachi, and Zeraora. Jirachi and Zeraora bring Primarina in against Pokemon like Salamence and Kommo-o so it can attack or set up. Strong wallbreakers like Crawdaunt, Mamoswine, Swords Dance Scizor, and Swords Dance Tapu Bulu help Primarina by breaking through Chansey and Mantine, which easily wall it. Because Primarina's Defense is suboptimal, other checks to Fighting-types such as Tapu Bulu and Amoonguss are appreciated. These two can also deal with Zeraora. Ground- and Grass-types like Nidoqueen, Krookodile, and Amoonguss can pivot into Electric-type moves in place of Primarina.

[SET COMMENTS]

Substitute lets Primarina avoid sleep- and poison-inducing moves, which would otherwise cripple it and prevent it from sweeping with Calm Mind. Common checks like Amoonguss and Slowking can't deal with Primarina if it uses Substitute as they come in, as Primarina is faster and can set up with Calm Mind. Substitute also eases prediction when forcing switches from Pokemon like Salamence and Kommo-o. Draining Kiss aids Primarina in recovering HP, allowing it to take more hits and use Substitute if needed. However, Draining Kiss is a very weak move and will only pose a threat to many Pokemon if Primarina has accumulated enough boosts. Moonblast, on the other hand, is very powerful from the start and lets Primarina not rely too much on Calm Mind boosts to threaten Water-resistant Pokemon like Tangrowth and Rotom-W. Moonblast especially helps Primarina against Rocky Helmet Tangrowth, which damages Draining Kiss Primarina. Scald is a reliable Water-type move, capable of burning physical attackers like Scizor and easing Primarina's matchup against them. It also helps to whittle down defensive Pokemon trying to check it, like Tentacruel, Assault Vest Tangrowth, and Amoonguss. Leftovers compensates the 25% loss in HP from Substitute. With the given EV spread, a Calm nature, and Draining Kiss and Leftovers recovery, Primarina is able to beat Amoonguss one-on-one as long as it avoids Sludge Bomb poison. However, it has to play around Spore and hope to not get poisoned by Sludge Bomb before it gets a second Calm Mind boost, as after only one boost, Sludge Bomb will break the Substitute. The Speed EVs let Primarina outspeed Crawdaunt and Azumarill, and the rest are put in Special Attack to increase Primarina's wallbreaking power.

Substitute + Calm Mind Primarina fits best on bulky offense and balance teams, as its ability to come in on moves like Draco Meteor from Salamence is greatly appreciated by other teammates. By switching on these moves, Primarina can either get a Substitute up or set up with Calm Mind if its checks have been eliminated or weakened. Poison-types like Nihilego and Nidoqueen help Primarina by absorbing annoying Toxic Spikes and setting up their own or Stealth Rock. Tentacruel is especially helpful, as it can spin away other hazards that bother Primarina. Strong wallbreakers like Mamoswine, Nidoqueen, and Kyurem can get past bulky Grass-types such as Amoonguss and Assault Vest Tangrowth. Electric-types such as Zeraora and Thundurus force Primarina out of the field if it doesn't have a Substitute up, so Pokemon like Rhyperior take care of them. Rhyperior can also set Stealth Rock to aid Primarina in its sweep and get past Primarina's best counter in Chansey with Swords Dance. Tangrowth, Skarmory, and Quagsire can take on strong physical attackers such as Azumarill, Diggersby, and Mamoswine for Primarina. Tangrowth cripples them with Knock Off and Sleep Powder, (comma) while Skarmory and Kommo-o can set up Spikes or Stealth Rock. Chansey is extremely annoying, as it can take boosted hits with ease and threaten Primarina back with Toxic and Seismic Toss. Conkeldurr, Close Combat Zeraora, and Swords Dance Diggersby are powerful wallbreakers that can muscle through Chansey and remove it for Primarina.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

A RestTalk set with Moonblast and either Scald or Calm Mind as the last move and a spread of 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA gives Primarina more bulk to deal with physical attackers like Lycanroc-D, but it is generally worse because Primarina doesn't have a usable Defense stat to being with, and not having any Speed investment makes it slower than Pokemon such as Celesteela, Modest Magnezone, and Adamant Bisharp. Even with maximum Defense investment, Primarina is still 2HKOed by Pokemon like Mamoswine and Azumarill. Flip Turn is an option on Choice Specs Primarina, often easing predictions against its checks. However, Flip Turn is really only helpful against Chansey, as Primarina's other checks fear its coverage moves. Sparkling Aria is stronger than Scald and bypasses Substitute, but Scald's burn chance is a big help against checks like Amoonguss, Tentacruel, and Tapu Bulu. Substitute is also an uncommon move, so Primarina won't have many situations where Sparkling Aria would be more useful.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Chansey**: Primarina's best counter is Chansey, as it can stomach even a Choice Specs-boosted Hydro Pump with ease. Chansey also easily beats Substitute Primarina, as it can break the Substitute with Seismic Toss and scare Primarina away with Toxic. Primarina gives Chansey free turns to set up Stealth Rock, heal itself with Soft-Boiled, and bring in teammates with Teleport. Chansey does have to be wary of Torrent-boosted Hydro Pump, though, as it 2HKOes after Stealth Rock damage.

**Grass-types**: Amoonguss and Assault Vest Tangrowth can cripple Primarina with Giga Drain, Sludge Bomb, and their sleep-inducing moves. Both can take on Primarina's STAB moves, but they have to scout for Choice Specs sets, as Psychic 2HKOes Amoonguss, while Moonblast 2HKOes Assault Vest Tangrowth after Stealth Rock damage. Tapu Bulu outspeeds Primarina and can OHKO it with Horn Leech, but it doesn't like switching directly into Moonblast or risking Scald burns.

**Water-types**: Rotom-W can pivot into Primarina's Water-type moves and threaten it with Volt Switch in order to bring in a teammate like Tangrowth, but it is scared of Moonblast. Tentacruel eats any hit Primarina throws at it except Psychic. It also outspeeds Primarina and can pressure it with Sludge Bomb and Knock Off. Slowking can take any hit from Primarina except multiple Moonblasts and use Teleport to switch to a teammate like Zeraora, use Future Sight, or fish for a Scald burn while healing itself with Slack Off. Volcanion is only bothered by Psychic and can 2HKO Primarina with Sludge Wave.

**Faster Pokemon and Physical Attackers**: Faster physical attackers such as Mamoswine, Zeraora, Lycanroc-D and Tapu Bulu threaten Primarina with their powerful STAB moves. Other faster Pokemon such as Nihilego, Thundurus-T, and Venusaur threaten Primarina with their strong STAB attacks despite its good Special Defense.

**Electric-types**: Thundurus-T, Rotom-W, and Zeraora outspeed Primarina, 2HKO or OHKO it with their attacks, and generate momentum with Volt Switch.

[OVERVIEW]

- Amazing offensive and defensive typing. This means nothing if you don't elaborate further with what it checks. You can mention how few Pokemon resist its STAB combo for the initial point.
- Has powerful coverage for its would-be checks. Psychic for Amoonguss and Tentacruel. Psychic is the ONLY other coverage move it runs. It's also not that strong, it's because it is coming off 126 SpA + a Specs or CM boost.
- Choice Specs sets absolutely destroy everything that doesn't resist its STAB moves. Hydro Pump 2HKOes even Spdef steela. No, because Chansey exists
- Access to very very good STAB moves both in power and typing in Hydro Pump / Scald and Moonblast. This could be tied to your first point.
- Good Special Defense and defensive typing give it some defensive utility. Again this is vague and is currently just fluff. This is another thing you could also just tie into your first point about defensive typing because you can just go into further detail about its naturally high SpD lets it check X, Y, and Z. Knock Off resistance is important and SubCM sets with max def invest can take resisted hits pretty easily. I'm changing the EV spread on this so yea removing it.
- Access to Flip Turn gives it momentum and a way to bring in teammates like Victini safely.

- Low Speed, okay-ish Defense even if invested and lack of priority are the drawbacks. Azumarill has access to priority and has higher HP, but is even slower and needs a Choice Band to do immediate damage.

These points can be flushed out more. I want you to do the following with it:
  • Make the low Speed point its own point because you can further talk about how this forces it to take damage to get off its powerful attacks. Examples of this would be against stuff like Latias and Krookodile
  • Make the low Defense thing its own point and note how offensive variants of Primarina can be 2HKO'd by Specs Keldeo Secret Sword after rocks. It also means it can't even switch into V-create from Victini reliably because it can only take one before dropping to the next.
  • Comparing it to Azumarill is fine but only focus on how it gives it competition as a choice locked wallbreaker because of its ability to muscle past all of its checks and access to priority to offset its low Speed tier.

- Hydro Pump is an absolute nuke of a move, 2HKOing even specially defensive Celesteela and Jirachi.
- Moonblast is extremely spammable and outright OHKOes key Pokemon like Latias, Salamence, and Kommo-o while hitting Pokemon Slowking, Tapu Bulu, and Rotom-W very hard. These Dragon-type examples are pretty self-explanatory so I see no reason to state them. I'd rather this whole point simply focus on the fact that you still 2HKO AV Tangrowth after Rocks and keeps other Water resists like Slowking and Tapu Bulu, which you mentioned, from safely switching into it.
- Psychic does copious amounts of damage to would-be checks in Amoonguss and Tentacruel.
- Scald is used to avoid Hydro Pump's shaky accuracy while still having a good Water-type move. It also has a nice 30% chance to burn physical attackers, making so Primarina can take physical attacks a bit easier from Pokemon like Salamence and Gyarados. Yes, but I don't think you should stick with these examples or reasoning. These two are only switching in if you are choice locked into Scald otherwise they are never coming in to even scout what it locks into. Accuracy + better examples like Amoong and Tenta make more sense because they will scout and a burn + hazards make a big difference in their ability to keep switching into Primarina.
- Flip Turn functions as a good pivoting move to bring in teammates like Victini on Pokemon that Primarina can't outspeed or 2HKO, like AV Tangrowth.
OO this and you can 2HKO AV Tang, you just need rocks up.
- Choice Specs is what really makes Primarina a monster, enabling it to power through its checks.
Filler, you are listing all the stuff it 2HKOs or w/e throughout this already.
- A Modest nature lets Primarina 2HKO Pokemon like Celesteela and specially defensive Jirachi, but a Timid nature lets it outspeed Adamant Scizor. This example is okay if you specify to hit it before it U-turns. Other mons you should bring up are Adamant Bisharp and Modest Volcanion, because you OHKO Bisharp and 2HKO Volcanion with Psychic.

- This set aims to punch holes on the opposing team through the raw power of Primarina's Choice Specs-boosted moves.
- Tapu Bulu, Scizor and Bisharp appreciate Primarina's ability to power through their checks in Celesteela and Kommo-o. Can you also mention how Bulu can actually remove Amoong with a boosted Zen. You could also add how Scizor can remove boots from Volcanion or Sludge from Tenta making them easier for Prima to wear down.
- If Flip Turn is opted in place of Scald, Victini + Zeraora form a very synergetic Volt-Turn-Flip core.

- Victini burns to a crisp the Grass-types that wall Primarina, while Zeraora zaps the Water-types that wall Victini and Primarina, and Primarina destroys the Ground-types that deal with Zeraora. It's not walled by anything but Chansey so to say it is walled by Grass-types is generous. Just say Victini can break Amoonguss and AV Tangrowth + pressure Chansey. Your Zeraora point is about breaking Water-types for Victini isn't relevant to Prima. You should be saying it can pressure bulky Water-types like Tentacruel and Volcanion to free up Primarina's ability to spam its STAB moves easier.

You can also link these two into partners that can bring Primarina in safely to make up for its low Speed tier. Mixed Victini in particular can bring Primarina in against Kommo-o and Salamence.

- Primarina can be easily worn down by hazards, so a Wish passer like Jirachi can help it stay in the match for longer. In the same vein, hazard removers like Salamence and Tentacruel extend Primarina's longevity. Tie in a mention of how Mence can check physical Victini for primarina too.
- Hazard setters in Skarmory, Chansey, and Kommo-o wear down Primarina's checks through hazards like Spikes and Stealth Rock to help it break through them. Give examples like the AV Tang point I mentioned before.

You need something about Pokemon that can check Electric-types that force Prima out. Same for offensive Grass-types like Bulu. E.g. Amoonguss and Latias. These two also help with Keldeo, which it can't defensively handle well.

There is nothing about Chansey even though it's the best response to it. List some Fighting-types like Terrak and Conk.

The EV spread makes you faster than Crawdaunt + Azumarill. The SpD with a Calm nature helps you 1vs1 Amoonguss. After one CM Giga no longer breaks your Sub and after 2 Sludge Bomb doesn't. With this plus lefties and draining kiss recovery, you can beat it as long as it doesn't get the Sludge Bomb poison. Rest thrown into SpA. Explain this below.

[SET COMMENTS]

- Substitute lets Primarina avoid nasty status like sleep and poison, which would otherwise cripple it and prevent it from sweeping with Calm Mind. It also lets it take resisted attacks while it sets up in front of defensive Pokemon like Slowking. Lastly, when in front of Pokemon that it threatens such as Latias and Kommo-o, Primarina forces a switch and gets a free Substitute up, easing predictions.
- Calm Mind gradually boosts Primarina's Special Attack and Special Defense, enabling it to power through specially defensive Pokemon like Tangrowth and Chansey and its checks, like Tentacruel and Amoonguss, even without coverage moves. You can't beat Chansey especially when Seismic does too much + breaks sub alongside them having Toxic. Amoonguss you only set up on and beat reliably if you avoid the poison from the second Sludge Bomb so mention that. Tentacruel is faster so you need to avoid 3 poisons to avoid the OHKO on its Substitute so by then you have taken too much chip. Personally, I would remove this example because it also fcks with Draining Kiss variants with Liquid Ooze.
- Scald is a reliable Water-type STAB, capable of burning physical attackers and easing Primarina's matchup against them. It also helps to whittle down defensive Pokemon trying to check it. examples

Have a line on Draining Kiss what it helps with and its downsides. Use this to then follow into why you would consider Moonblast instead.

- Moonblast is a very powerful and spammable move, OHKOing key threats like Latias and Kommo-o even without a boost. It also deals big damage to checks like Tangrowth and Rotom-W after some boosts. Idk what you're calcing but you do not OHKO Latias unboosted.
- Leftovers enable Primarina to gradually regain health to compensate the 25% loss in HP due to setting up a Substitute.
- The given EV Spread and a Bold nature aim to increase Primarina's Defense to the maximum, letting it survive physical attacks like +1 Salamence's Dual Wingbeat, Choice Band Terrakion's Stone Edge, +2 Bisharp's Iron Head, and Life Orb's Mamoswine Earthquake. This obviously needs to be changed.

- Nidoqueen, Nihilego, and Tentacruel are fine teammates for Primarina, as they can absorb Toxic Spikes for it. The first two can set their own Stealth Rock or Toxic Spikes to help Primarina break the other team, while Tentacruel is able to not only set and absorb Toxic Spikes, but also spin other hazards.
- Rotom-H helps by defogging hazards away and checking Steel-types like Scizor and Jirachi. If you bring up Scizor at least mention if Prima is in BP range of a CB or LO set. Jirachi isn't the best of mons that it needs a check for when it doesn't appreciate Scald.

- Tapu Bulu can set Grassy Terrain to increase Primarina's longevity even more through passive healing, allowing it to both take and dish out more hits.
The reasoning for this is w/e

- Pivots such as Scizor, Slowking, Zeraora, and Victini can bring Primarina in safely against it checks This is fluff because of no examples. Also only stick to pivots that are going to bring it in on something that it can find opportunities to set up on as it doesn't really come in to fire off attacks to wallbreak.

There needs to be something on wallbreakers that break the bulky Grass-types, Tentacrual, Volcanion, and Chansey.

Unless sub is up Zeraora always forces you out so checks to that. So can Bolt Strike Victini because of its low Defense stat.

Partners that check really powerful physical attackers should be here because mons like Mamo and Diggs threaten to basically drop it with EQ.

[SET COMMENTS]

- Calm Mind in this set aims to boost Primarina's special bulk and Special Attack to help it deal more damage to checks like Tangrowth and Tentacruel and also take their hits with more ease. Primarina probably won't get many free turns and opportunities with this set, unlike the Substitute one, where it is more safe to setup and doesn't have to worry about status. However, by giving up Substitute, Primarina can run a coverage move in Psychic to hit two of its main checks in Amoonguss and Tentacruel. Do not reference other sets.
- Moonblast after a Calm Mind boost 2HKOes physically defensive Slowking and Rotom-W. Its also an extremely spammable move that hits other Pokemon like Tangrowth, Latias, Zeraora and Kyurem quite hard. Zeraora isn't switching into a Primarina. Kyurem and Latias don't want to risk that either.
- Scald's 30% chance of inflicting burn on enemies mitigates Primarina's pitiful Defense stat and gives it a reliable Water-type STAB move.
- Psychic is used to hit Primarina's two biggest counters: Amoonguss and Tentacruel. After a Calm Mind boost, Psychic easily 2HKOes both of them. It also helps Primarina against neutral targets such as Volcanion.
- A Modest nature lets Primarina 2HKO Pokemon like Celesteela and specially defensive Jirachi, but a Timid nature lets it outspeed Adamant Scizor and Modest Magnezone and Speed tie with Jolly Incineroar.
- This EV spread maximizes Primarina's Special Attack and Speed to enable it to threaten slower Pokemon like Amoonguss and Pokemon weak to its STAB and coverage moves (this sentence is so weird but i really don't know what to say here lol) Just don't say anything about why it's max SpA

Make Lefties a mention.

(sorry for copy-pasting, but i couldn't think of any other teammates that can benefit one set more than other)

Yeah, I'm not going to check this bit for this reason. There are differences such as this set having less bulk and needing the pivot support way more. This set usually runs boots so the toxic spikes absorbing comment is kinda w/e same as the hazard comment so those don't particularly apply here.

- Ice Beam, although an attractive option to lure Tangrowth, Amoonguss, and Tapu Bulu in, is inferior to Psychic, which can still threaten Amoonguss while hitting Pokemon like Tentacruel and Volcanion, which would otherwise wall Primarina effortlessly.
- Energy Ball hits Slowking and Rotom-W extremely hard, but forces Primarina to give up valuable and more reliable moves such as Scald, Flip Turn, and Psychic. This makes Primarina unable to hits its counters in Amoonguss and Tentacruel for any damage, and thus is inferior even to Ice Beam, which can at least hit Tangrowth, Tapu Bulu, and Amoonguss.
Slowking is like the only thing you'd care to hit. Washtom just Volts on you because that is its best means of hitting you so this is redundant.
- Heavy-Duty Boots aims to negate hazard damage and help Primarina stay in the game for longer. Due to Primarina's huge 126 base Special Attack, even without a boosting item or move, it can hit very hard and cause huge damage. Despite this, Choice Specs or Leftovers is still preferred, as the former gives Primarina immediate fire power while the latter can recover the health lost to hazards.

- Mention a Rest + Sleep Talk set with max Defense. With their dual STABs or CM + Mooblast. Mention downsides of using this.

- Flip Turn as I said before

- Sparkling Aria is worth a mention on the sets using Scald for a stronger STAB but you lose out on punishing....

Checks and Counters
===================

**Grass-types**: Primarina struggles with the tier's Grass-types, especially if they are invested in Special Defense. Amonguss and Assault Vest variants of Tangrowth and Tapu Bulu can take any hit from Primarina with relative ease, bar the rare Ice Beam. Offensive variants of Tapu Bulu outspeed Primarina and can OHKO it with Horn Leech, while Amoonguss and Tangrowth can recover some health back with Giga Drain, hit it hard with Sludge Bomb, put non-Substitute variants to sleep with their respective sleep-inducing moves, and in the case of Tangrowth, remove its item with Knock Off. You should mention that Amoong does have to fear Psychic while the other two don't switch into Specs Moonblast well and get 2HKO'd.

**Water-types**: Rotom-W can pivot safely into Primarina's Water-type moves and proceed to threaten it with Volt Switch in order to bring in a teammate like Tangrowth. Tentacruel eats any hit Primarina throws at it, except Psychic. It also outspeeds Primarina and can pressure it with Sludge Bomb and Knock Off. Mantine doesn't care about any of Primarina's moves except Moonblast, and it can simply Roost the damage off while pressuring Primarina with a potential Toxic or Scald burn. Volcanion is only bothered by Psychic and can outspeed Primarina and 2HKO it with Sludge Wave.

**Faster Pokemon and Physical Attackers**: Faster offensive threats such as Terrakion, Nihilego, Mamoswine, Lycanroc-Dusk and Tapu Bulu outspeed and threaten Primarina with their powerful STAB moves.

**Electric-types**: Both Thundurus and Rotom forms and Zeraora outspeed and either severely dent Primarina or outright OHKO it with their powerful STAB Electric-type attacks.

Where is a point on Chansey. Put it at the top.

Okay, this will need another look over from me before giving 1/3. You are being too vague in a lot of instances, which I can't let you get away with because I can see some metagame knowledge is off in places. You seem to have forgotten Chansey is a Pokemon in a good amount of this because that is the best answer to Primarina.

Make the set order like so. Specs --> Offensive CM --> Sub CM

tag me when you've done this.

[OVERVIEW]

- Primarina's incredible STABs make it an extremely dangerous threat, as very few Pokemon actually resist its STAB combination of Water and Fairy. It not only has good STABs in typing but also in power, in the form of Hydro Pump and Moonblast. Primarina is capable of pressuring defensive Pokemon such as Jirachi, Celesteela, and Kommo-o with its STAB combination alone. This could be worded a little better

- Its typing also shines defensively, giving it a useful immunity to Dragon and a resistance to Fire, Water, Dark, and Fighting, You don't need to list all of these resists this is something the user can look up. Just focus on specific Pokemon the typing helps check allowing it to face proeminent prominent Pokemon such as Latias and Kommo-o. Primarina's high Special Defense allows it to take resisted and neutral special attacks if needed. This is filler and should just be mentioned at the start of your sentence. e.g. Primarina's high SpD and defensive typing let it check...

- Has the coverage it needs to get past its checks in Amoonguss and Tentacruel. Specify Psychic
- One of Primarina's flaws come in the form of its low Speed, a lot of times forcing it to take a hit from Pokemon its supposed to answer, such as Latias, before getting a hit off.
- Another bad aspect of Primarina is its equally low Defense stat, making it so it's 2HKOed by even resisted hits, such as Choice Specs Keldeo Secret Sword after Stealth Rock damage and Victini's V-create, meaning it can't actually check them the way it's supposed to even though it has the typing advantage.
- Primarina faces some competition with Azumarill as a Water-type wallbreaker as both rely on their brute force to muscle through their checks. Azumarill can consistently pressure walls, as nothing can comfortably check it, and has priority to make up for the lack of Speed, unlike Primarina.

I'd add a mention about having Calm Mind and what it helps it break past.

move 2: Moonblast
move 3: Psychic
move 4: Scald
item: Choice Specs
ability: Torrent
nature: Modest / Timid
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

- Hydro Pump is an absolute nuke of a move, 2HKOing even specially defensive Celesteela and Jirachi.
- Moonblast is extremely spammable and keeps Water resists Pokemon such as Slowking, Tapu Bulu, and Rotom-W incapable of switching in freely due to its insane power. After Stealth Rock damage, Primarina's Moonblast is capable of 2HKOing even Assault Vest Tangrowth.
- Psychic does copious amounts of damage to would-be checks in Amoonguss and Tentacruel. After Stealth Rock, Amoonguss risks the chance of being OHKOed.
- Scald is used to avoid Hydro Pump's shaky accuracy while still having a reliable Water-type move. It also has a nice 30% chance to burn physical attackers, making it so Primarina can take physical attacks a bit better. The burn chance is equally useful to help Primarina wear down Amoonguss and Tentacruel, which in conjunction with hazards makes their job at checking it a lot harder.

- A Modest nature lets Primarina 2HKO Pokemon like Celesteela and specially defensive Jirachi, Is there perhaps another example you can add in because you use the same two at the start but a Timid nature lets it outspeed Adamant Bisharp and Modest Volcanion, enabling it to more easily threaten them.

- This set aims to punch holes on in the opposing team through the raw power of Primarina's Choice Specs-boosted moves.
- Tapu Bulu, Scizor, and Bisharp appreciate Primarina's ability to power through their checks in Celesteela and Kommo-o. In return, Tapu Bulu removes Amoonguss with a +2 Zen Headbutt, while Scizor and Bisharp help Primarina by removing Tentacruel's Black Sludge and Volcanion's Heavy-Duty Boots, making it so Primarina can pressure them more easily. None of these are switching into Bisharp

- Victini burns to a crisp Amoonguss and Assault Vest Tangrowth and pressures Chansey for Primarina. Zeraora zaps ._. Don't use zaps Water-types such as Tentacruel and Volcanion for Primarina, making it so it can spam its STAB moves more freely. Primarina in return destroys the Ground-types that deal with Zeraora and Victini.
- Victini, Scizor, and Zeraora are some partners that can bring in Primarina safely with their pivot moves, making up for its slow Speed. Furthermore, mixed Victini can bring in Primarina against Kommo-o and Salamence.
- Ground types such as Rhyperior handle Electric-types like Zeraora and Thundurus-T that force Primarina out. It can also set Stealth Rock up to help Primarina wallbreak and setup Swords Dance itself to break Chansey, that walls Primarina. Worth mentioning Rhyperior is a great Victini check

- Amoonguss and Tangrowth deal with Tapu Bulu for Primarina, and are capable of KOing it with Sludge Bomb, and in the case of Tangrowth, remove its item. Tangrowth runs Sludge Bomb too Kommo-o and Latias can also deal with Tapu Bulu, and are capable of setting or removing hazards for Primarina, respectively. You give these things their own points so this just feels a little forced.

- Chansey walls Primarina effortlessly, and thus Fighting-types such as Terrakion and Choice Specs Keldeo are capable of removing it and let Primarina free to spam its STAB moves. It is very unlikely you are using both Specs Keldeo and Specs Prima together

- Primarina can be easily worn down by hazards, so a Wish passer like Jirachi can help it stay in the match for longer. In the same vein, hazard removers like Salamence and Tentacruel extend Primarina's longevity. Salamence can also deal with physical Victini variants for Primarina.
- Hazard setters in Skarmory, Chansey, and Kommo-o wear down Primarina's checks through hazards like Spikes and Stealth Rock to help it break through them. For example, Assault Vest Tangrowth is 2HKOed by Moonblast, but only after Stealth Rock damage, and Amoonguss is always OHKOed by Psychic after Stealth Rock and 1 layer of Spikes.

In one of the points where you brought up Scizor you can mention it helps with Kyurem, one of the Dragon-types Primarina can't really pivot into well due to Freeze Dry.

move 4: Psychic
item: Heavy-Duty Boots / Leftovers We had some discussion in QC and decided to slash both

nature: Modest / Timid
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

- Calm Mind in this set aims to boost Primarina's Special Defense and Special Attack to help it deal more damage to checks like Tangrowth and Tentacruel and also take their hits with more ease.
- Moonblast is an extremely spammable move. After a Calm Mind boost, it 2HKOes physically defensive Slowking and Rotom-W, Rotom-W can only Volt against Primarina so 2HKOing it only matters when it's the last mon. and after Stealth Rock damage, Assault Vest Tangrowth.
- Scald gives it a reliable Water-type STAB move and the 30% chance of inflicting burn on enemies mitigates Primarina's pitiful Defense.
- Psychic is used to hit Primarina's two biggest counters: Amoonguss and Tentacruel. After a Calm Mind boost, Psychic easily 2HKOes both of them. It also helps Primarina against neutral targets such as Volcanion.
- Leftovers help Primarina to regain some HP it may lose due to hazards, but are not as reliable here as it can't stay in the field for too long before it is forced to switch out due to its bad Speed and Defense. Change this to say why it runs boots. Then add another point saying leftovers is an option for passive recovery.

- A Modest nature lets Primarina 2HKO Pokemon like Celesteela and specially defensive Jirachi, but a Timid nature lets it outspeed Adamant Scizor and Modest Magnezone and Speed tie with Jolly Incineroar.

- Nidoqueen, Nihilego, and Tentacruel are fine teammates for Primarina. The first two can set their own Stealth Rock or Toxic Spikes to help Primarina break the other team, while Tentacruel is able to not only set Toxic Spikes, but also spin other hazards away with Rapid Spin. The removal bit is specific to if it's running Lefties so you need to mention that.

- Rotom-H helps by bringing in Primarina safely with Volt Switch. It can also either burn physical attackers such as Salamence and Diggersby with Will-O-Wisp or paralyze faster threats like Victini and Tentacruel with Thunder Wave so Primarina is more free to setup and spam its STAB attacks. While this is true, the most common Rotom-H sets don't even carry these two status moves so to have a point dedicated to it is odd. I'd just remove this.

- Due to Primarina's bad Defense and Speed, it appreciates a lot the pivot support Pokemon like Scizor, Victini, and Zeraora can provide. Victini and Zeraora bring Primarina in via their respective pivot moves against Pokemon like Salamence and Latias so it can either attack or set up in front of them. Scizor can also pivot out of Skarmory with U-turn. This Skarm point doesn't sound like you are tying it to Primarina

This is still pretty baren so I will just give you points to add.

  • State the type of team this fits best on
  • Say what type of things Primarina should attempt to set up on.
  • Wallbreakers that help support it getting past stuff like Chansey etc.
  • Secondary Fighting-type checks that can make up for this sets lack of defensive utility
  • You'll still want a point on partners that help with Zeraora

move 3: Draining Kiss / Moonblast
move 4: Scald
item: Leftovers
ability: Torrent
nature: Calm
evs: 252 HP / 24 SpA / 16 SpD / 216 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

- Calm Mind allows Primarina to boost its Special Attack and Special Defense in order to get past its checks, like Amoonguss.
- Substitute lets Primarina avoid nasty status like sleep and poison, which would otherwise cripple it and prevent it from sweeping with Calm Mind. It also lets it take resisted attacks while it sets up in front of defensive Pokemon like Slowking. Lastly, when in front of Pokemon that it threatens such as Latias and Kommo-o, Primarina forces a switch and gets a free Substitute or Calm Mind up, easing predictions.
- Scald is a reliable Water-type move, capable of burning physical attackers like Scizor and easing Primarina's matchup against them. It also helps to whittle down defensive Pokemon trying to check it, like Tentacruel, Assault Vest Tangrowth, and Amoonguss.
- Draining Kiss, along with Leftovers, aids Primarina in recovering HP, allowing it to take more hits and have more chances set up another Substitute if needed. However, Draining Kiss is a very weak move and will only pose a threat if Primarina has accumulated some boosts or if it is used against Fairy-weak Pokemon. Moonblast, on the other hand, is very powerful from the start and lets Primarina not rely too much on Calm Mind boosts to threaten Pokemon that resist Water, like Latias, Tangrowth, and Rotom-W.
- Leftovers enable Primarina to gradually regain health to compensate the 25% loss in HP due to setting up a Substitute.
- With the given EV spread, a Calm nature, and Draining Kiss and Leftovers recovery, Primarina is able to 1v1 Amoonguss as long as it avoids the Sludge Bomb poison. After one Calm Mind, Giga Drain can't break Primarina's Substitute, and after two boosts, Sludge Bomb is also unable to do so. The Speed EVs let Primarina outspeed Crawdaunt and Azumarill, and the rest are put on Special Attack to increase Primarina's breaking power.

This is essentially the same point from the offensive CM set. Can you use some other examples. It's fine for some to carry over but don't use the exact same wording in both.
- Strong wallbreakers like Mamoswine, Victini, and Kyurem can get past bulky Grass-types such as Amoonguss and Assault Vest Tangrowth, so they are very appreciated.
- Terrakion helps Primarina by muscling through Chansey and Volcanion with its STABs. If running Earthquake, Terrakion destroys Tentacruel without having to worry about missing Stone Edge. Missing doesn't have much relevance to Primarina, just say you can OHKO Tenta Lastly, Terrakion can also set Stealth Rock to help Primarina break more easily.
- Electric-types or Pokemon with Electric-type coverage such as Zeraora and Victini force Primarina out of the field if it doesn't have a Substitute up, so Pokemon like Rhyperior take care of them. Rhyperior can also set Stealth Rock to aid Primarina in its sweep and get past Primarina's best counter in Chansey with Swords Dance.
- Tangrowth, Skarmory and Quagsire can all take on strong physical attackers such as Mamoswine, Diggersby, and Azumarill for Primarina, since it has a very low Defense stat. Tangrowth cripples them with Knock Off and Sleep Powder while Skarmory and Kommo-o can set up Spikes and Stealth Rock, respectively.
- Chansey is extremely annoying, as it doesn't let Primarina set up Calm Mind due to its ability to break Primarina's Substitute with Seismic Toss and threaten it with Toxic. Terrakion and Choice Specs Keldeo demolish Chansey for Primarina. You have a whole point dedicated to Terrakion, move this to come after it then list a couple more wallbreakers that help with Chansey like Conkeldurr etc.

State the type of team this fits best on

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

- A RestTalk set with Moonblast and either Scald or Calm Mind as the last move with 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA EVs gives Primarina more bulk to deal with physical attackers but is generally worse, since Primarina doesn't have a usable Defense stat to being with and not having any Speed investiment makes it extremely slow and lets it be outsped by Pokemon such as Celesteela, Modest Magnezone and Adamant Bisharp.
- Flip Turn is an option as a pivot move on Primarina as it can force a lot of switches with its powerful STAB combination, but due to Primarina's slow Speed, even if maxed out, it will almost always have to take a hit before it can pivot out. It is also completely stopped by Water Absorb Pokemon like Volcanion and Mantine and is punished by Rocky Helmet users in Amoonguss and Tangrowth. The main issue with Flip Turn is that so few things can actually take a hit from Primarina well so it doesn't need to pivot against most of them. I'd focus on this and keep the helmet mention about the grass types, though Phys Def Tangrowth isn't a safe pivot so keep it to Amoonguss.
- Sparkling Aria is stronger than Scald and can be used to do more damage, but not having the 30% chance to burn its opponents really hurts Primarina as that helps it punish checks like Amoonguss, Tentacruel, and Tapu Bulu by weakening them and whittling them down through the burn.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Chansey**: Primarina's best counter is Chansey, as it can stomach even Choice Specs-boosted Hydro Pumps with ease. Chansey also easily wins the 1v1 even against Substitute Primarina, as it can break the Substitute with Seismic Toss and scare Primarina away with Toxic. Not only that, Primarina gives Chansey free turns to set up Stealth Rock, heal itself with Soft-Boiled, and Teleport away to other teammates.

**Grass-types**: Primarina struggles with the tier's Grass-types, especially if they are invested in Special Defense. Amonguss and Assault Vest variants of Tangrowth and Tapu Bulu can take any hit from Primarina with relative ease. You don't need to list every little thing they can do to it, cut this down. However, they have to scout for Choice Specs sets, as Psychic 2HKOes Amoonguss while Moonblast 2HKOes Tapu Bulu and does a lot of damage to Assault Vest Tangrowth.

**Faster Pokemon and Physical Attackers**: Faster physical attackers such as Terrakion, Zeraora, Lycanroc-Dusk and Tapu Bulu outspeed and threaten Primarina with their powerful STAB moves. Other faster Pokemon such as Nihilego, Thundurus-T, and Venusaur threaten Primarina with their strong STAB attacks despite its good Special Defense.

**Electric-types**: Both Thundurus and Rotom forms and Zeraora outspeed and either severely dent Primarina or outright OHKO it with their powerful STAB Electric-type attacks. I'd note that Primarina is a free Volt Switch opportunity for momentum.

[OVERVIEW]

- Primarina's incredible STABs make it an extremely dangerous threat, as very few Pokemon actually resist the combination of Water and Fairy. Its STABs are both powerful in typing and in power, boasting moves like Hydro Pump and Moonblast. This sentence is mostly fluff and can be removed. Because of the huge offensive pressure Primarina can exert, it is capable of threatening defensive Pokemon such as Jirachi, Celesteela, and Kommo-o with its STAB combination alone.
- Its typing also shines defensively, allowing it to face Pokemon such as Latias, Slowking replace this example with Keldeo, and Kommo-o. Because of Primarina's high Special Defense and typing, it can easily take moves like Scald, Mystical Fire, and Body Press. I don't really think this last sentence is all too necessary and would consider removing it. You could try fitting a mention of its high Special Defense in the first sentence in this line here though.
- Primarina has the only coverage it needs to get past its checks in Amoonguss and Tentacruel due to its access to Psychic.
- Access to Calm Mind allows Primarina to more easily get past common checks such as Tangrowth, Amoonguss, and Slowking.
- One of Primarina's flaws come in the form of its low Speed, a lot of times forcing it to take a hit from Pokemon its supposed to answer, such as Latias, before getting a hit off.
- Another bad aspect of Primarina is its equally low Defense stat, making it so it's 2HKOed by even resisted hits, such as Choice Specs Keldeo Secret Sword after Stealth Rock damage and Victini's V-create, meaning it can't actually check them the way it's supposed to even though it has the typing advantage. this is something that should be condensed a bit, since throwing in its type advantage at the end both offers redundant or straightforward information and also makes the sentence overly wordy. Just say that it can't check them as well as it'd like to with its typing.
- Primarina faces some competition with Azumarill as a Water-type wallbreaker as both rely on their brute force to muscle through their checks I'd say something along the lines of 'because of their shared typing' instead. Azumarill can consistently pressure walls, as nothing can comfortably check it, and has priority to make up for the lack of Speed, unlike Primarina.

In return, Tapu Bulu removes Amoonguss with a +2 Zen Headbutt, while Scizor helps Primarina by removing Tentacruel's Black Sludge and Volcanion's Heavy-Duty Boots, making it so Primarina can pressure them more easily. Lastly, Scizor also acts a check to Kyurem, one of the few Dragon-types that can actually threaten Primarina, due to Freeze-Dry.
- Victini burns to a crisp Amoonguss and Assault Vest Tangrowth and pressures Chansey for Primarina. Zeraora hits Water-types such as Tentacruel and Volcanion for Primarina, making it so it can spam its STAB moves more freely.
Finally. Rhyperior acts a fine Victini check, bar mixed sets with Energy Ball.
- Amoonguss and Tangrowth deal with Tapu Bulu for Primarina, as they are capable of switching directly into it and KO it with Sludge Bomb. Tangrowth can also use Knock Off to remove its item.
- Chansey walls Primarina effortlessly, and thus Fighting-types such as Terrakion and Kommo-o are capable of removing it and let Primarina free to spam its STAB moves.

[SET COMMENTS]

- Calm Mind in this set aims to boost Primarina's Special Defense and Special Attack to help it deal more damage to checks like Tangrowth and Tentacruel and also take their hits with more ease. So generally a good rule of thumb for how to include a move line is whether it offers straightforward info or not. I think the main way you can phrase this to not do that is saying that Calm Mind allows it to overwhelm passive Pokemon that could otherwise check it, then provide your same examples.
- Moonblast is an extremely spammable move. After a Calm Mind boost, it 2HKOes physically defensive Slowking, and after Stealth Rock damage, Assault Vest Tangrowth. This can be removed
- Scald gives it a reliable Water-type STAB move and the 30% chance of inflicting burn on enemies mitigates Primarina's pitiful Defense. I think burn is more notable for wearing down switch-ins with burn damage, so say that instead.
- Psychic is used to hit Primarina's two biggest counters: Amoonguss and Tentacruel. After a Calm Mind boost, Psychic easily 2HKOes both of them. It also helps Primarina against neutral targets such as Volcanion.
- Primarina runs Heavy-Duty Boots as a way to offensively check threats like Keldeo and Salamence with more consistency, as otherwise, the hazard damage would weaken it and prevent it from taking a hit if needed before disposing of them.
- Leftovers is an option to help Primarina regain some HP that it may lose due to hazards, but are not as reliable here as it can't stay on the field for too long before it is forced to switch out due to its bad Speed and Defense. I'd instead mention that it prevents Primarina from ignoring hazard damage to switch in on opposing Pokemon as easily, instead of the current drawback you have written.
- A Modest nature lets Primarina 2HKO Pokemon like Celesteela and specially defensive Jirachi, but a Timid nature lets it outspeed Adamant Scizor and Modest Magnezone.

- This set fits nicely on more bulky teams, such as balance and bulky offense, since Primarina can utilize its good defensive typing and Special Defense to switch into moves like Scald and Mystical Fire coming from Pokemon such as Slowking and Latias, to then setup or hit them back.
- The aforementioned Slowking serves as easy setup fodder for Primarina, but others like Kommo-o, Salamence, and Suicune also let Primarina setup for free, as they usually lack strong or super effective moves to threaten it.
- Nidoqueen, Nihilego, and Tentacruel are fine teammates for Primarina. The first two can set their own Stealth Rock or Toxic Spikes to help Primarina break the other team, while Tentacruel is able to not only set Toxic Spikes, but also spin other hazards away with Rapid Spin, and is specially helpful if Leftovers is chosen in place of Heavy-Duty Boots.
maybe a line on other entry hazard removers that can allow Primarina to forego running HDB since you already have Tentacruel's spinning capabilities briefly mentioned
- Strong wallbreakers like Terrakion, Mamoswine, Swords Dance Scizor, and Swords Dance Tapu Bulu help Primarina by breaking through Chansey, Mantine, and Amoonguss, which easily wall it and force it out. The first two can also set Stealth Rock, allowing Life Orb Mamoswine to always 2HKO Chansey with Earthquake.
- Because Primarina's Defense is horrible, other checks to Fighting-types such as Tapu Bulu and Amoonguss are appreciated. These two can also deal with Zeraora, that forces Primarina out even if it has boosted with Calm Mind.
Pokemon that can pivot into Electric-types seem like a good idea to mention here given Prima's vulnerability to Zera.

[SET COMMENTS]

- Calm Mind allows Primarina to boost its Special Attack and Special Defense in order to get past its checks, like Amoonguss. I'd remove this.
- Substitute lets Primarina avoid nasty status like sleep and poison, which would otherwise cripple it and prevent it from sweeping with Calm Mind. It also lets it take resisted attacks while it sets up in front of defensive Pokemon like Slowking. Lastly, when in front of Pokemon that it threatens such as Latias and Kommo-o, Primarina forces a switch and gets a free Substitute or Calm Mind up this doesn't make sense to me since it implies that it uses Calm Mind as the switch is forced despite Sub being the move described here, easing predictions.
- Scald is a reliable Water-type move, capable of burning physical attackers like Scizor and easing Primarina's matchup against them. It also helps to whittle down defensive Pokemon trying to check it, like Tentacruel, Assault Vest Tangrowth, and Amoonguss. This line should be below your Iines on its Fairy-type moves if it's below them on the set.
I'd bring boots up here as an option for negating hazard damage, but that this set appreciates Leftovers for the longevity it offers

- Substitute + Calm Mind Primarina suits best on bulky offense and balance teams, as its ability to come in on moves like Draco Meteor from Salamence and Scald from Suicune is greatly appreciated by other teammates. By switching on these moves, Primarina can either get a Substitute up or setup with Calm Mind if its checks have been eliminated or weakened.
- Poison-types like Nihilego and Nidoqueen help Primarina by absorbing annoying Toxic Spikes for it and setting up their own or Stealth Rock. Tentacruel is specially helpful, as it can spin away other hazards that bother Primarina, like Stealth Rock and Spikes, while absorbing Toxic Spikes for it.
- Strong wallbreakers like Mamoswine, Victini, and Kyurem can get past bulky Grass-types such as Amoonguss and Assault Vest Tangrowth, so they are very appreciated.
- Terrakion helps Primarina by muscling through Chansey and Volcanion with its STABs, and if running Earthquake, Terrakion destroys Tentacruel. I'd remove this bit since Terrakion smacks Tenta with Stone Edge either way. Lastly, Terrakion can also set Stealth Rock to help Primarina break more easily.
Instead say it can consistently take hits from Primarina while threatening it with Seismic Toss/Toxic. Conkeldurr, Close Combat Zeraora, and Swords Dance Diggersby are all powerful wallbreakers that can muscle through Chansey and remove it for Primarina.

- Flip Turn is an option as a pivot move on Primarina as it can force a lot of switches with its powerful STAB combination, often times playing prediction games with the opponent as they try to guess if Primarina will attack and cause heavy damage or switch to a teammate this is a good example of a sentence becoming too wordy. Instead of what you have here, just condense it by saying that this can ease prediction against Primarina's checks. However, Amoonguss, a common Rocky Helmet user, can safely pivot into Primarina and only has to watch out for sets carrying Psychic. I feel like the more notable drawback is that Primarina's listed attacks are more consistently useful, so say that instead.
- Sparkling Aria is stronger than Scald and can be used to do more damage bring up that it can also bypass Substitute, but not having the 30% chance to burn its opponents really hurts Primarina as that helps it punish checks like Amoonguss, Tentacruel, and Tapu Bulu by weakening them and whittling them down through the burn. Another example of a part of a sentence that adds either redundant or overly straightforward info. Try keeping this in mind for future reference in order to condense your writing a bit.

Checks and Counters
===================

Offensive variants of Tapu Bulu outspeed Primarina and can OHKO it with Horn Leech, while Amoonguss and Tangrowth can cripple it with Giga Drain, Sludge Bomb, and their respective sleep move. However, they have to scout for Choice Specs sets, as Psychic 2HKOes Amoonguss while Moonblast 2HKOes Tapu Bulu and does a lot of damage to Assault Vest Tangrowth.

**Faster Pokemon and Physical Attackers**: Faster physical attackers such as Terrakion, Zeraora, Lycanroc-D and Tapu Bulu outspeed and threaten Primarina with their powerful STAB moves. Other faster Pokemon such as Nihilego, Thundurus-T, and Venusaur threaten Primarina with their strong STAB attacks despite its good Special Defense.

**Electric-types**: Both Thundurus and Rotom forms Just give one example of each since it'd read more cleanly and Zeraora outspeed and either severely dent Primarina and generate free momentum with Volt Switch, or outright OHKO it with their powerful STAB Electric-type attacks.

[OVERVIEW]

Primarina's incredible STABs make it an extremely dangerous threat, as very few Pokemon actually resist the combination of Water and Fairy. Because of the huge offensive pressure Primarina can exert, it is capable of threatening defensive Pokemon such as Jirachi, Celesteela, and Kommo-o with its STAB combination alone. Its typing also shines defensively, allowing it to face Pokemon such as Keldeo and Kommo-o. Primarina has the only coverage it needs to get past its checks in Amoonguss and Tentacruel due to its access to Psychic. And access to Calm Mind allows it to more easily get past common checks such as Tangrowth, Amoonguss, and Slowking. could maybe say somthing about how CM sets punish switch ins to pokemon like these that would usually try to switch in to scout specs prim. Unfortunately, Primarina has very low Speed, a lot of times forcing it to take a hit from Pokemon its supposed to answer, such as Keldeo, before getting a hit off. Another bad aspect of Primarina is its equally low Defense stat, making it so it's 2HKOed by even resisted hits, such as Choice Specs Keldeo Secret Sword after Stealth Rock damage and Victini's V-create, so it can't check them as well as it would like to despite having the type advantage. Primarina faces some competition with Azumarill as a Water- and Fairy-type wallbreaker, as Azumarill can consistently pressure walls since nothing can comfortably check it, idk like skarm can honestly check cb sets p well, so can tang / amoong attempt to scout it pretty decently. you could comment on how it offers wallbreaking from the physical side, has knock to better pressures its checks, and then the priority bit too maybe? since what you have atm feels kinda like it doesn't really say very much and isn't totally true, and its jet thats the biggest thing between the two. and has priority maybe clarify aqua jet for clarities sake here to make up for the lack of Speed, unlike Primarina.

[SET COMMENTS]

Psychic does copious amounts of damage to would-be checks in Amoonguss and Tentacruel. And after Stealth Rock, Amoonguss risks the chance of being OHKOed. Scald is used to avoid Hydro Pump's shaky accuracy the way this is worded kind of sounds like its slashed over hydro pump and not being run on the same set personally, might be worth rewording slightly. while still having a reliable Water-type move. It also has a nice 30% chance to burn switch-ins, making it so Primarina can take physical attacks a bit better. The burn chance is equally useful to help Primarina wear down Amoonguss and Tentacruel, its definitely good for tang too which in conjunction with hazards makes their job at checking it a lot harder. A Modest nature lets Primarina 2HKO Pokemon like Celesteela and specially defensive Jirachi, but a Timid nature lets it outspeed Adamant Bisharp and Modest Volcanion, enabling it to more easily threaten them. your not really threatening volcanion, since its already an excellent check to you,if anything its more just putting it into a position where it can struggle to reliably check you with heavy chip / make it not want to directly switch into moonblast / psychic

This set aims to punch holes on the opposing team through the raw power of Primarina's Choice Specs-boosted moves. Tapu Bulu and Scizor appreciate Primarina's ability to power through their checks in Celesteela and Kommo-o. i wouldnt really say kommo-o is ever actually stayingin on prim. In return, Swords Dance Tapu Bulu removes Amoonguss with a +2 Zen Headbutt, while Scizor helps Primarina by removing Tentacruel's Black Sludge and Volcanion's Heavy-Duty Boots, making it so Primarina can pressure them more easily. would clarify knock scizor because not all sciz are going to necessarily be running this. Lastly, Scizor also acts a check to Kyurem, one of the few Dragon-types that can actually threaten Primarina, due to Freeze-Dry. Victini burns to a crisp Amoonguss and Assault Vest Tangrowth and pressures Chansey for Primarina. Zeraora hits Water-types such as Tentacruel and Volcanion for Primarina, making it so it can spam its STAB moves more freely. Primarina in return destroys the Ground-types that deal with Zeraora and Victini. the real question is does it actually. nidoqueen is faster than u, ur put into pretty iffy positions vs toad / gastro cause of water absorb that make u have to predict a lot harder and toad can just knock u on switch in. you also don't really switch into rhyp amazingly (literally only switch into it once). I'd cut this bit most likely. Victini, Scizor, and Zeraora are some partners that can bring in Primarina safely with their pivot moves, making up for its slow Speed. would give specific examples of things your being brought in on here. for reference i dont actually think zeraora's pivot support is particularly noteable here, given the stuff that tends to switch into it eg. bulu/tang arent things you really force out well yourself apart from amoong. but yea defo comment on mence in particular as soemthing brought in. Furthermore, mixed Victini can bring in Primarina against Kommo-o and Salamence. mixed victini isn't an analysis set so shouldnt really get a mention here, you can also just merge this into your previous point. Ground types such as Rhyperior handle Electric-types like Zeraora and Thundurus-T that force Primarina out. It can also set Stealth Rock up to help Primarina wallbreak and setup Swords Dance itself to break Chansey, again don't ever see chansey actually staying in after you reveal SD if its needed to deal with specs prim. that walls Primarina. Finally. Rhyperior acts a fine Victini check, bar mixed sets with Energy Ball. just say to physical sets because mixed sets arent an analysis set and special is way more likely to carry eball rn and psychic / blue flare burns are still v annoying. Amoonguss and Tangrowth deal with Tapu Bulu for Primarina, as they are capable of switching directly into it and KO it with Sludge Bomb. Chansey walls Primarina effortlessly, and thus Fighting-types such as Terrakion and Kommo-o are capable of removing it, and let Primarina free to spam its STAB moves. Primarina can be easily worn down by hazards, so a Wish passer like Jirachi can help it stay in the match for longer. In the same vein, hazard removers like Salamence and Tentacruel extend Primarina's longevity. Salamence can also deal with physical Victini variants for Primarina. Hazard setters in Skarmory, Chansey, would never run non Teleport chansey on specs prim teams personally and Kommo-o wear down Primarina's checks like Amoonguss and Tangrowth through hazards like Spikes and Stealth Rock to help it break through them. For example, Assault Vest Tangrowth is 2HKOed by Moonblast, but only after Stealth Rock damage, and Amoonguss is always OHKOed by Psychic after Stealth Rock and 1 layer of Spikes. cutting because of length.

move 3: Scald
move 4: Psychic
item: Heavy-Duty Boots / Leftovers
ability: Torrent
nature: Modest / Timid
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

Calm Mind is used to let Primarina get past checks like Tangrowth clarify AV tang here imo since like phys def tangs not a good answer to either set either way and Tentacruel. Scald gives it a reliable Water-type STAB move, and the 30% chance of inflicting burn on checks like Assault Vest Tangrowth and Amoonguss helps Primarina wear them down. Psychic is used to hit Primarina's two biggest counters: Amoonguss and Tentacruel. After a Calm Mind boost, Psychic easily 2HKOes both of them. It also helps Primarina against neutral targets such as Volcanion. Primarina runs Heavy-Duty Boots as a way to offensively check threats like Keldeo and Salamence with more consistency. Otherwise, the hazard damage would weaken it and prevent it from taking a hit before disposing of them. Leftovers is an option to help Primarina regain some HP that it may lose due to hazard damage, but it doesn't protect Primarina from said damage, thus cutting into its longevity. You could cut this whole bit down a lot by just saying that Boots are ideal if Primarina's team doesn't have consistent hazard removal since it lets it check Pokemon like Keldeo better in the presence of hazards, but that leftovers can be used for more longevity otherwise. A Modest nature lets Primarina 2HKO Pokemon like Celesteela and specially defensive Jirachi, 252+ SpA Choice Specs Primarina Scald vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Celesteela: 151-178 (37.9 - 44.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery. i'm a bit confused to what ur referring to it 2hkoing with here. but a Timid nature lets it outspeed Adamant Scizor basically irrelevant example because its going to bullet punch you once in range anyway. just use modest volc like before or something probably and Modest Magnezone.

This set fits nicely on more bulky teams, when you refer to more bulky teams i'd usually assume you mean something like fat balance, so this reads a bit weirdly with the next bit, just say it fits well on balances and bos. such as balance and bulky offense, since Primarina can utilize its good defensive typing and Special Defense to switch into moves like Scald and Mystical Fire if i'm honest do you really want to do either of these things a lot of the time? mfire makes you a lot more passive and kinda makes some switch ins a lot safer than before, see what i say next for the slowing point too. coming from Pokemon such as Slowking and Hatterene, to then setup or hit them back. setting up directly on slowkings kinda a horrible idea? it's just going to teleport into zeraora or something realistically. The aforementioned Slowking serves as easy setup fodder for Primarina, but others like Kommo-o, Salamence, and Suicune also let Primarina setup for free, as they usually lack strong or super effective moves to threaten it. probably worth having some actual points of clarification here, kommo-o and salamence are two things you don't want to be just switching into to set up against unless you know their sets, as you can get 2hkoed by pjab and hurricane respectively. (pjab from clanger in general will just nuke you once you are chipped a bit so not the best idea). Nidoqueen, Nihilego, and Tentacruel are fine teammates for Primarina. The first two can set their own Stealth Rock or Toxic Spikes to help Primarina break the other team, while Tentacruel is able to not only set Toxic Spikes, it is but it shouldn't. tenta is wildly incconsistent at keeping up tspikes (which are already rather meh atm) and this isn't aided by prim also letting amoong kinda switch in to absorb them too. but also spin other hazards away with Rapid Spin, and is specially helpful if Leftovers is chosen in place of Heavy-Duty Boots. If running Leftovers, Defoggers like Rotom-H and Salamence also make for great teammates, preventing Primarina from taking damage from hazards. i'd mention some of the other benefits they provide, such as another victini check to help make up for the fact that prim doesnt really wanna be doing that etc. Due to Primarina's bad Defense and Speed, it appreciates a lot the pivot support Pokemon like Scizor, Victini, and Zeraora can provide. Victini and Zeraora bring Primarina in via their respective pivot moves against Pokemon like Salamence and Kommo-o so it can either attack or set up in front of them. Strong wallbreakers like Terrakion, Mamoswine, Swords Dance Scizor, and Swords Dance Tapu Bulu help Primarina by breaking through Chansey, Mantine, and Amoonguss, which easily wall it and force it out. The first two can also set Stealth Rock, allowing Life Orb Mamoswine to always 2HKO Chansey with Earthquake. would leave out the rocks mention as far as mamo goes, its not a good rocks setter in the slightest. Because Primarina's Defense is horrible, other checks to Fighting-types such as Tapu Bulu and Amoonguss are appreciated. These two can also deal with Zeraora, that forces Primarina out even if it has boosted with Calm Mind. Lastly, Ground- and Grass-types like Nidoqueen, Krookodile, and Amoonguss can all pivot into Electric-type moves in place of Primarina.

move 3: Draining Kiss / Moonblast
move 4: Scald
item: Leftovers
ability: Torrent
nature: Calm

[SET COMMENTS]

Substitute lets Primarina avoid nasty status like sleep and poison, which would otherwise cripple it and prevent it from sweeping with Calm Mind. would specifically comment immedaitely on the fact this lets it punish traditional swith ins like slowing / amoong and just set up on them. It also lets it take resisted attacks while it sets up in front of defensive Pokemon like Slowking. Lastly, when in front of Pokemon that it threatens such as Salamence and Kommo-o, Primarina forces a switch and gets a free Substitute up, easing predictions. Draining Kiss, along with Leftovers, aids Primarina in recovering HP, allowing it to take more hits and have more chances set up another Substitute if needed. However, Draining Kiss is a very weak move and will only pose a threat if Primarina has accumulated enough boosts or if it is used against Fairy-weak Pokemon. Moonblast, on the other hand, is very powerful from the start and lets Primarina not rely too much on Calm Mind boosts to threaten Pokemon that resist Water, like Kommo-o, Tangrowth, and Rotom-W. you don't really need it to threaten clanger since draining kiss will basically kill it from full at +0 anyway. The tang point is proabbly the most mportant one as draining kiss is far too weak on it while incurring rocky helemt dmg, and tang can comfortably break substitutes. comparitvely moonblast is a 2hko at +0 and will still get the 2hko after giga draining the sub if it took rocks first. this needs to be addressed somehow to reflect this mu better imo. Scald is a reliable Water-type move, capable of burning physical attackers like Scizor and easing Primarina's matchup against them. It also helps to whittle down defensive Pokemon trying to check it, like Tentacruel, Assault Vest Tangrowth, and Amoonguss. Leftovers enable Primarina to gradually regain health to compensate the 25% loss in HP due to setting up a Substitute. Heavy-Duty Boots can be considered, but Primarina loses on the recovery that Leftovers provides and will need to rely solely on Draining Kiss as a form of recovery. wouldn't bother, just move this to OO. With the given EV spread, a Calm nature, and Draining Kiss and Leftovers recovery, Primarina is able to 1v1 Amoonguss as long as it avoids the Sludge Bomb poison.

Substitute + Calm Mind Primarina suits best on bulky offense and balance teams, as its ability to come in on moves like Draco Meteor from Salamence and Scald from Suicune is greatly appreciated by other teammates. honestly taking a scald burn will completely fuck up subcm prim by removing its recovery completely, i dont think its actually a good idea in the slightest to be trying to do this actively. By switching on these moves, Primarina can either get a Substitute up or setup with Calm Mind if its checks have been eliminated or weakened. Poison-types like Nihilego and Nidoqueen help Primarina by absorbing annoying Toxic Spikes for it and setting up their own or Stealth Rock. Tentacruel is specially helpful, as it can spin away other hazards that bother Primarina, like Stealth Rock and Spikes, while absorbing Toxic Spikes for it. Strong wallbreakers like Mamoswine, Victini, and Kyurem can get past bulky Grass-types such as Amoonguss and Assault Vest Tangrowth, so they are very appreciated. Terrakion helps Primarina by muscling through Chansey, Tentacruel, and Volcanion with its STABs. Terrakion can also set Stealth Rock to help Primarina break more easily. Electric-types or Pokemon with Electric-type coverage such as Zeraora and Victini force Primarina out of the field if it doesn't have a Substitute up, so Pokemon like Rhyperior take care of them. Rhyperior can also set Stealth Rock to aid Primarina in its sweep and get past Primarina's best counter in Chansey with Swords Dance. Tangrowth, Skarmory, and Quagsire can all take on strong physical attackers such as Mamoswine, Diggersby, and Azumarill for Primarina. reorder these mentions because atm you are suggesting tang checks mamo and quag checks azu. Tangrowth cripples them with Knock Off and Sleep Powder while Skarmory and Kommo-o can set up Spikes and Stealth Rock, respectively. Chansey is extremely annoying, as it can take boosted hits with ease and threaten Primarina back with Toxic and Seismic Toss. Conkeldurr, Close Combat Zeraora, and Swords Dance Diggersby are all powerful wallbreakers that can muscle through Chansey and remove it for Primarina.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

A RestTalk set with Moonblast and either Scald or Calm Mind as the last move with 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA EVs gives Primarina more bulk to deal with physical attackers but is generally worse, since Primarina doesn't have a usable Defense stat to being with and not having any Speed investiment makes it extremely slow and lets it be outsped by Pokemon such as Celesteela, Modest Magnezone and Adamant Bisharpthe defense stat is usable enough with a good typing like it has, but the issue really for me is that its a bulky water thats 2hkoed by scarf victini still and barely avoids being 2hkoed by eball from special. Flip Turn is an option as a pivot move on Primarina as it can force a lot of switches with its powerful STAB combination, often times easing predictions against its checks. However, Primarina's other attacks are either more powerful or give it opportunities to sweep. Id specifically comment that this is only really helpful for Chansey, as primarina would rather just attack all its otehr checks with the right coverage move. Sparkling Aria is stronger than Scald and bypasses Substitute, but not having the 30% chance to burn its opponents really hurts Primarina as that helps it punish checks like Amoonguss, Tentacruel, and Tapu Bulu.there's also just not many relevant substitute users in general.

Checks and Counters
===================

Not only that, Primarina gives Chansey free turns to set up Stealth Rock, heal itself with Soft-Boiled, and Teleport away to other teammates. maybe briefly comment that chansey has to be careful about directly switching in once primarina is in torrent range though, as Hydro pump can 2HKO it after rocks and force it to stay healthy to deal with it.

**Grass-types**: Primarina struggles with the tier's Grass-types, especially if they are invested in Special Defense. Amonguss and Assault Vest variants of Tangrowth and Tapu Bulu can take any hit from Primarina with relative ease. 252+ SpA Choice Specs Primarina Psychic vs. 252 HP / 36 SpD Amoonguss: 364-430 (84.2 - 99.5%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock . i wouldnt call that taking any hit from primarina with ease personally. AV bulu is also not really a set anymore, and bulu also has to be a lot more careful about switching in compared to other two as it hates scald burns, would more comment on it as an offensive check here.

**Water-types**: Rotom-W can pivot safely into Primarina's Water-type moves and proceed to threaten it with Volt Switch in order to bring in a teammate like Tangrowth. pivoting safely into its water-type moves feels a little dodgy of a statement to me, as is it really a safe pivot if it could click specs moonblast for 78-92% damage, unless you know for absolutely 100% sure its clicking like hydro/scald. Slowking needs a mention in this section, and i'd personally cut mantine to put it in as mantine's not highly relevant atm.

**Electric-types**: Thundurus-T, Rotom-W, and Zeraora outspeed and either severely dent Primarina and generate free momentum with Volt Switch, or outright OHKO it with their powerful STAB Electric-type attacks.

I'd like to have another look at this once it's implemented as there was a lot to comment on here.

I'd also advise that you try to cut down the team options a bit for Specs Primarina, atm the section is extremely long. I have made some removals already that will help shorten this, but it would be worth checking to see if you can cut down on wordiness in places too. I will have another look at the length after and do some further cutting down if necessary.

Calm Mind is used to let Primarina get past checks like Assault Vest Tangrowth and Tentacruel. After a Calm Mind boost, Psychic easily 2HKOes both of them. this undersells psychic a bit i feel, it 2hkos amoong at +0 and it has a solid chance to OHKO amoong after rocks at +1, and needs very little chip to do the same to tentacruel, which is a mon that dosn't even have a way of keeping itself healthy consistently like moong. It also helps Primarina against neutral targets such as Volcanion. If your team lacks consistent hazard removal, Heavy-Duty Boots can be ran as a way to check threats like Keldeo and Salamence with more consistency. However, Leftovers can be used if your team can consistently remove hazards for Primarina. A Modest nature lets Primarina 2HKO Pokemon like Celesteela and specially defensive Jirachi with Hydro Pump, but a Timid nature lets it outspeed both Modest Volcanion and Magnezone.

This set fits nicely on teams such as balance and bulky offense, since Primarina can utilize its good defensive typing and Special Defense to switch into moves like Flamethrower from defensive Salamence and Kommo-o, to then setup or hit them back. The aforementioned defensive Dragon-types and Suicune let Primarina setup for free, as they lack super effective moves to threaten it. Nidoqueen, Nihilego, and Tentacruel are fine teammates for Primarina. The first two can set their own Stealth Rock or Toxic Spikes to help Primarina break the other team, while Tentacruel is able to spin other hazards away with Rapid Spin, and is specially helpful if Leftovers is chosen in place of Heavy-Duty Boots. If running Leftovers, Defoggers like Rotom-H and Salamence also make for great teammates, preventing Primarina from taking damage from hazards and acting as checks to Pokémon like Victini and Scizor. Nitpick but Amoong doesn't really "easily wall it" as such, since psychic 2hkos / ohkos at +2 after rocks. Terrakion can also set Stealth Rock. Because Primarina's Defense is suboptimal, other checks to Fighting-types such as Tapu Bulu and Amoonguss are appreciated. These two can also deal with Zeraora, that forces Primarina out even if it has boosted with Calm Mind. Lastly, Ground- and Grass-types like Nidoqueen, Krookodile, and Amoonguss can all pivot into Electric-type moves in place of Primarina.

[SET COMMENTS]

Substitute lets Primarina avoid nasty status like sleep and poison, which would otherwise cripple it and prevent it from sweeping with Calm Mind. Common checks like Amoonguss and Slowking can't deal with Primarina if it gets a Substitute up as they come in, as Primarina is faster and can setup with Calm Mind. And when in front of Pokemon that it threatens such as Salamence and Kommo-o, Primarina forces a switch and gets a free Substitute up, easing prediction. Moonblast, on the other hand, is very powerful from the start and lets Primarina not rely too much on Calm Mind boosts to threaten Pokemon that resist Water, like Tangrowth and Rotom-W. Moonblast especially helps Primarina against Rocky Helmet Tangrowth, as using Draining Kiss will hurt Primarina. Without enough boosts, Primarina can't hit Tangrowth hard, while it can break Primarina's Substitute. Comparatively, a neutral Moonblast 2HKOes Rocky Helmet Tangrowth. These three sentences probably need to flow a bit better, it reads really odd right now. more of a GP thing but they don't really connect that much atm. With the given EV spread, a Calm nature, and Draining Kiss and Leftovers recovery, Primarina is able to 1v1 Amoonguss as long as it avoids the Sludge Bomb poison. maybe explain what this sludge bomb poison is for, ie. that it needs to get TWO cms to stop its subs being broken by amoonguss, so it has to play around spore and avoiding the poison here. After one Calm Mind, Giga Drain can't break Primarina's Substitute, and after two boosts, Sludge Bomb is also unable to do so. yea try and connect this a bit more to the previous point, specifically mentioning that it does need to go for the 2nd cm to rly win the 1v1. The Speed EVs let Primarina outspeed Crawdaunt and Azumarill, and the rest are put on Special Attack to increase Primarina's wallbreaking power.

Substitute + Calm Mind Primarina suits best on bulky offense and balance teams, as its ability to come in on moves like Draco Meteor from Salamence is greatly appreciated by other teammates. Tangrowth, Skarmory, and Quagsire can all take on strong physical attackers such as Azumarill, Diggersby, and Mamoswine for Primarina. Tangrowth cripples them with Knock Off and Sleep Powder while Skarmory and Kommo-o can set up Spikes and Stealth Rock, respectively. Chansey is extremely annoying, as it can take boosted hits with ease and threaten Primarina back with Toxic and Seismic Toss. might be worth mentioning that this is because prim doesnt have the 101 hp subs that'd be necessary for this mu. Conkeldurr, Close Combat Zeraora, and Swords Dance Diggersby are all powerful wallbreakers that can muscle through Chansey and remove it for Primarina.

A RestTalk set with Moonblast and either Scald or Calm Mind as the last move with 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA EVs gives Primarina more bulk to deal with physical attackers any examples here? eg. mamo / lycan, then mention when you talk about the defense stat how both of these pokemon can 2hko it (albeit lycan needs rocks for it) forcing it to rely on prediction / offensively checking stuff a bunch but is generally worse, since Primarina doesn't have a usable Defense stat to being with and not having any Speed investiment makes it extremely slow and lets it be outsped by Pokemon such as Celesteela, Modest Magnezone and Adamant Bisharp. Even with maximum Defense investiment, Primarina is still 2HKOed by Pokemon like Terrakion and Azumarill. Flip Turn is an option on Primarina specify specs here as it can force a lot of switches with its powerful STAB combination, often times easing predictions against its checks. However, Flip Turn is really only helpful against Chansey, as Primarina's other checks fear its coverage moves. Sparkling Aria is stronger than Scald and bypasses Substitute, but not having the 30% chance to burn its opponents really hurts Primarina as that helps it punish checks like Amoonguss, Tentacruel, and Tapu Bulu. Substitute is also an uncommon move, so Primarina won't have many opportunities where Sparkling Aria would be more useful.

Checks and Counters
===================

Chansey, does have to be wary of Torrent-boosted Hydro Pump though, as it 2HKOes after Stealth Rock damage.

**Grass-types**: Amoonguss and Assault Vest Tangrowth can cripple Primarina with Giga Drain, Sludge Bomb, and their respective sleep move. Both can take on Primarina's STAB moves, but they have to scout for Choice Specs sets, as Psychic 2HKOes Amoonguss while Moonblast 2HKOes Assault Vest Tangrowth after Stealth Rock damage. Tapu Bulu outspeeds Primarina and can OHKO it with Horn Leech, but it doesn't like switching directly into Moonblast or risk Scald burns.

**Water-types**: Rotom-W can pivot into Primarina's Water-type moves and proceed to threaten it with Volt Switch in order to bring in a teammate like Tangrowth, but is scared of Moonblast. Tentacruel eats any hit Primarina throws at it, except Psychic. It also outspeeds Primarina and can pressure it with Sludge Bomb and Knock Off. Slowking can take any hit from Primarina except Moonblast multiple times and proceed to either Teleport to a teammate like Zeraora, use Future Sight, or fish for a Scald burn while healing itself with Slack Off. Volcanion is only bothered by Psychic and can outspeed Primarina and 2HKO it with Sludge Wave.

**Electric-types**: Thundurus-T, Rotom-W, and Zeraora outspeed and either severely dent Primarina and generate free momentum with Volt Switch, or outright OHKO it with their powerful STAB Electric-type attacks.

[OVERVIEW]

Primarina's incredible STABs make it an extremely dangerous threat, as very Few Pokemon actually resist the Primarina's STAB combination of Water and Fairy., (comma) making it a massive threat Because of the huge offensive pressure Primarina can exert, it is capable of threatening defensive Pokemon such as Jirachi, Celesteela, and Kommo-o with its STAB combination alone. Its typing also shines defensively, allowing it to face Pokemon such as Keldeo and Kommo-o. Primarina has the only coverage it needs to get past its checks in Amoonguss and Tentacruel due to its access to Psychic. And access to Psychic covers the only answers to its STAB combination in Amoonguss and Tentacruel, and Calm Mind allows it to more easily get past common checks such as Tangrowth, Amoonguss, and Slowking. Calm Mind also punishes the aforementioned checks when they try to switch in to scout for Choice Specs sets. Unfortunately, Primarina has very low Speed, a lot of times often forcing it to take a hit from Pokemon it's supposed to answer, such as Keldeo, before getting a hit off KOing back. Another bad aspect of Primarina is its equally low Defense stat, making it so it's Its similarly low Defense stat makes it 2HKOed by even resisted hits, such as Choice Specs Keldeo Secret Sword after Stealth Rock damage and Victini's V-create, so it can't check them as well as it would like to despite having the type advantage. Primarina faces some competition with Azumarill as a Water- and Fairy-type wallbreaker, as Azumarill acts a physical wallbreaker, can pressure walls with Knock Off, and has priority in Aqua Jet to make up for the lack of Speed, letting it check Pokemon like Terrakion and Lycanroc-D a lot more comfortably, unlike Primarina.

[SET COMMENTS]

Psychic does copious amounts of damage to would-be checks in Amoonguss and Tentacruel. And After Stealth Rock, Amoonguss risks the chance of being OHKOed. Scald is used as the last move to avoid Hydro Pump's shaky accuracy while still having a reliable Water-type move when risking Hydro Pump is unnecessary. It also has a nice 30% chance to burn switch-ins, making it so Primarina can take physical attacks a bit better. (per) The burn chance is equally useful to help Primarina and wearing down Amoonguss, Tangrowth, and Tentacruel, which in conjunction with hazards makes their job at checking it a lot harder. A Modest nature lets Primarina 2HKO Pokemon like Celesteela and specially defensive Jirachi with Hydro Pump, but a Timid nature lets it outspeed Adamant Bisharp and Modest Volcanion, pressuring them more.

This set aims to punch holes on the opposing team through the raw power of Primarina's Choice Specs-boosted moves. Tapu Bulu and Scizor appreciate Primarina's ability to power through their checks in Celesteela and Jirachi. In return, Swords Dance Tapu Bulu removes Amoonguss with a +2 Zen Headbutt, while Knock Off Scizor helps Primarina by removing removes Tentacruel's Black Sludge and Volcanion's Heavy-Duty Boots, making it so Primarina can pressure them more easily. Lastly, Scizor also acts a check to Kyurem, one of the few Dragon-types that can actually threaten Primarina, due to Freeze-Dry. Victini burns to a crisp beats Amoonguss and Assault Vest Tangrowth and pressures Chansey for Primarina. Zeraora hits Water-types such as Tentacruel and Volcanion for Primarina, making it so it can spam its STAB moves more freely. Victini and Scizor are some partners that can bring in Primarina safely with their pivot moves in front of Pokémon like Salamence and Celesteela, respectively, making up for its slow Speed. Ground-types such as Rhyperior handle Electric-types like Zeraora and Thundurus-T that force Primarina out. It Rhyperior can also set Stealth Rock up to help Primarina wallbreak. (per) Finally. Rhyperior also acts a fine check for and checks Victini's physical sets, easing the pressure off of Primarina as a check to it. Amoonguss and Tangrowth deal with Tapu Bulu for Primarina, as they are capable of switching directly into it and OHKO it with Sludge Bomb. Chansey walls Primarina effortlessly, and thus so Fighting-types such as Terrakion and Kommo-o are capable of removing it, letting Primarina free to spam its STAB moves can be used to threaten it. Primarina can be easily worn down by entry hazards, so a Wish passer like Jirachi can help it stay in the match for longer. In the same vein, hazard removers like Salamence and Tentacruel extend Primarina's longevity. Salamence can also deal with physical Victini variants for Primarina. Calm Mind is used to let Primarina get past checks like Assault Vest Tangrowth and Tentacruel. Scald gives it is a reliable Water-type STAB move, and the 30% chance of inflicting burn on checks like Assault Vest Tangrowth and Amoonguss helps Primarina wear them down. Psychic is used to hit Primarina's two biggest counters: Amoonguss and Tentacruel. If your team lacks consistent entry hazard removal, Heavy-Duty Boots can be ran run as a way to check threats like Keldeo and Salamence with more consistency.

The first two can set Stealth Rock or Toxic Spikes to help Primarina break through the other opposing team, while Tentacruel is able to spin can remove entry hazards with Rapid Spin, which is especially helpful if Leftovers is chosen in place of Heavy-Duty Boots. If running Leftovers, Salamence makes a great teammate and Defogger, acting as a check to Pokémon Pokemon like Scizor. Due to Primarina's bad Defense and Speed, it appreciates pivoting support Pokemon pivots like Scizor, Jirachi, and Zeraora can provide. These two can also deal with Zeraora,(RC) .(AP) Ground- and Grass-types like Nidoqueen, Krookodile, and Amoonguss can pivot into Electric-type moves in place of Primarina.

Moonblast, on the other hand, is very powerful from the start and lets Primarina not rely too much on Calm Mind boosts to threaten Water-resistant Pokemon that resist Water,(RC) like Tangrowth and Rotom-W. With the given EV spread, a Calm nature, and Draining Kiss and Leftovers recovery, Primarina is able to 1v1 beat Amoonguss one-on-one as long as it avoids Sludge Bomb poison.

Substitute + Calm Mind Primarina suits fits best on bulky offense and balance teams, as its ability to come in on moves like Draco Meteor from Salamence is greatly appreciated by other teammates.

Other Options
=============

A RestTalk set with Moonblast and either Scald or Calm Mind as the last move with and a spread of 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA EVs gives Primarina more bulk to deal with physical attackers like Lycanroc-D, but it is generally worse because Primarina doesn't have a usable Defense stat to being with, and not having any Speed investiment investment makes it slower than Pokemon such as Celesteela, Modest Magnezone, (comma) and Adamant Bisharp. Even with maximum Defense investiment investment, Primarina is still 2HKOed by Pokemon like Mamoswine and Azumarill.

===================

Chansey does have to be wary of Torrent-boosted Hydro Pump, (comma) though, as it 2HKOes after Stealth Rock damage.

**Grass-types**: Amoonguss and Assault Vest Tangrowth can cripple Primarina with Giga Drain, Sludge Bomb, and their sleep-inducing moves. Both can take on Primarina's STAB moves, but they have to scout for Choice Specs sets, as Psychic 2HKOes Amoonguss,(AC) while and Moonblast 2HKOes Assault Vest Tangrowth after Stealth Rock damage.

Slowking can take any hit from Primarina except multiple Moonblasts multiple times and use Teleport to switch to a teammate like Zeraora, use Future Sight, or fish for a Scald burn while healing itself with Slack Off.
