Primarina's combination of stats, typing, and movepool allow Primarina to function as a great Calm Mind sweeper within the tier. Thanks to it's naturally good Special Defense, Primarina finds plenty of opportunities to set up on the likes of Hydreigon, Clefable, and choice-locked Kyurem. Substitute is used to allow Primarina to avoid status effects from the likes of Toxapex and Clefable while setting up, as Toxic or Paralysis greatly hinder Primarina's ability to sweep. Health lost from creating Substitutes can also be somewhat recovered thanks to Draining Kiss. Calm Mind allows Primarina to muscle through special walls like SpDef Tyranitar and Amoonguss after multiple boosts, and can threaten to sweep opposing teams if left unchecked. Scald is a fantastic STAB move, which not only has solid base power, but also has a 30% chance to burn the opposing Pokemon, crippling switch ins such as Toxapex, Rillaboom, and Ferrothorn. Draining Kiss is a second form of STAB and acts as pseudo recovery, allowing Primarina to regain health lost in the process of setting up. Draining Kiss is crucial in keeping Primarina healthy, and thanks to Primarina's rather average HP stat, Draining Kiss provides plentiful healing after a couple of boosts or against a high HP target such as Blissey. Moonblast however is an option for immediate firepower, and also has a chance to lower the targets Special Attack, which can come in use in Calm Mind wars or gaining more opportunities to setup. The EVs of this set are used to ensure defensive Clefable can never break Primarina's Substitute with Moonblast, allowing Primarina to use Clefable as set up bait. 12 Speed EVs are used to outspeed minimum speed Tyranitar, while the rest of the EVs are placed into HP and Defense. 216 Speed EVs can be used to outspeed Adamant Crawdaunt, but the loss in bulk is very noticeable. If you choose to use 216 Speed EVs, be sure to take them from the Defense EVs, as the Special Defense EVs ensures Primarina's Substitute can't be broken by defensive Clefable.

Primarina is a versatile Pokemon, and can find home on offense, balance and bulky offense teams that are looking for a bulky Calm Mind sweeper. Grass-types such as Rillaboom, Amoonguss, and Ferrothorn are good answers to Primarina, so Fire types such as Volcarona and Rotom-H makes for excellent partners. Safeguard Volcarona can often use Grass-type Pokemon to setup, while Rotom-H provides wallbreaking capabilities and can bring Primarina in safely with Volt Switch. Primarina in return can switch in on Aqua Jet from the likes of Azumarill and Crawdaunt that are often aimed at the aforementioned Fire-types. Speaking of Grass-types, Rillaboom makes for an excellent partner in its own right, as it checks Zeraora, and resists Grass-type attacks. Rillaboom also provides Grassy Terrain, which greatly benefits Primarina, while Primarina can take on Dragon and Steel-types such as Corviknight and Hydreigon, both of which can give Rillaboom trouble. Primarina can struggle to muscle through special walls such as Blissey and Ferrothorn without multiple boosts or relying on a Scald burn, so physical wallbreakers such as Urshifu make for great partners. Excadrill can provide Rapid Spin support and has decent type synergy with Primarina, as Excadrill is immune to both Poison and Electric-type attacks, while Primarina can absorb Fighting and Water-type attacks. Lastly, Zeraora makes for a good teammate, threatening bulky Water-types such as Toxapex, while also being able to bring in Primarina safely with Volt-Switch.

Primarina's combination of stats, typing, and movepool allow Primarina to function as a great Calm Mind sweeper within the tier. Thanks to it's naturally good Special Defense, Primarina finds plenty of opportunities to set up on the likes of non-Thunder Wave Dragapult I'd argue that you really can't afford to set up on wisp pult because having lefties invalidated is kinda huge for this mon; I'd rather you replace this mention with something along the lines of Volcarona or choice-locked kyurem , Hydreigon, and Clefable. Substitute is used to allow Primarina to avoid status effects from what mons while setting up, as Toxic or Paralysis greatly hinder Primarina's ability to sweep. Health lost from creating Substitutes can also be somewhat recovered thanks to Draining Kiss. Calm Mind allows Primarina to muscle through special walls give me examples after a couple of boosts, and can threaten to sweep opposing teams if left unchecked. Scald is a fantastic STAB move, which not only has solid base power, but also has a 30% chance to burn the opposing Pokemon, crippling switch ins such as Rillaboom, Ferrothorn and Toxapex. pex first; burning pex is huge for the pex matchup since it means you actually beat it 1v1 Draining Kiss is a second form of STAB and acts as pseudo recovery, allowing Primarina to regain health lost in the process of setting up. Draining Kiss is crucial in keeping Primarina healthy, and thanks to Primarina's rather average HP stat, Draining Kiss provides plentiful healing after a couple of boosts or against a high HP target such as Blissey. The EVs of this set are used to ensure non-Life Orb just mention defensive as opposed to non-lo Clefable can never break Primarina's Substitute with Moonblast, allowing Primarina to use Clefable as set up bait. 12 Speed EVs are used to outspeed minimum speed Tyranitar, while the rest of the EVs are placed into HP and Defense. 216 Speed EVs can be used to outspeed Adamant Crawdaunt, but the loss in bulk is very noticeable. mention that you should ideally only move the defence evs - mention why not you shouldn't move the spdef

Primarina is best suited towards balance and bulky offense teams I wouldn't just limit prim to bo and balance since we've seen plenty of prim ho pop up that are looking for a bulky Calm Mind sweeper. Grass-types such as Rillaboom, Amoonguss, and Ferrothorn are good answers to Primarina, so Volcarona I don't like this being limited to solely volc; give other examples here too makes for an excellent partner. Volcarona has no issue against Grass-types, while Primarina can switch in on Aqua Jet from the likes of Azumarill and Crawdaunt that are often aimed at Volcarona.
