I've been working for a while on collecting statistics about battles on the Smogon and Create-A-Pokemon battle servers. TBH, my main motivation was for tracking battles on the CAP server, but the Smogon server has more ladders and a ton more play. On the one hand, that makes gathering data a lot more difficult. Smogon produces an enormous volume of log data, and it is a major pain-in-the-ass to sift through it. But, on the other hand, all that data is a wonderful foundation for all sorts of interesting statistical analyses.

I wrote a report that lists who battled the most on the Smogon server in the month of November, broken down by ladder and unrated play. For grins, I even included the people who like to randbat. I don't know what would possess some people to randbat so often -- but hey, to each their own! The really crazy people are the ones at the top of the Standard ladder. Just do the math on the number of battles those people are playing every day.... Wow...

I actually combined all the battles for a given IP, and then listed the total under the name that recorded the most battles for that IP. I call that name the "Prolific Name" for a given IP. For people that battle with multiple IP's, it doesn't help much. But, for people that use multiple alts, this gives an idea of the combined total number of battles that they completed.

I actually have win-loss records for everyone. But, I decided not to post them. Since we already have a rating system in place, I really didn't want to detract from that by focusing attention on win-loss records.

I may make some other reports or I may not. But, please don't ask for any custom reports on this stuff. Like I said, collecting this data is a lot of work, so I'm not looking for new ideas. I do this because I find it interesting personally, and I suspect there are others out there that enjoy it too. I won't be running these reports every month. I just did it because I'm on vacation from work, and believe it or not -- this is the sort of stuff that I like to do in my free time.

Thanks to everyone who actively battles on the Smogon server! Your activity is a major component in shaping the competitive Pokemon metagame.

Except for you randbattlers out there. You guys are weird....
 
This is really a great insight! We can see from this how "centralized" battling on the standard server is...and it seems like a lot of people are battling a lot, which is great.
 
Don't know whether one should be proud or embarassed to make the list (I didn't, lol). Still I swear I've battled all the guys on the list more times than I care to recall. Get a life!! lol

lol, that's just on standard, he's played 104 matches on Uber too. He plays..57.9 matches per day x_X. Caelum 117 randbats, haha. Toothache squeezed in there too. :)

Ha! I'm on the standard ladder list with 636 battles. 20 battles a day seems right, since each battle is only like 5 minutes so that's 1 hr, and 20 minutes. And I don't play any other ladder, so that's pretty much true.

Really? It's not a lot of time when you think about it. umbarsc, add a new option, hobby.

I guess 20 doesn't sound like a lot for some of you, but I rarely do more than 5 per day, unless I am attempting to get a certain ladder score, but still, I could never manage 20 battles per day for an entire month.
 
well he only did like 27 battles a day, since he was battling himself. Those battles were pretty short too.. I'd guess that's like 3hours daily?

I love how on the uber ladder ramon sessions has almost 5 times the number of battles as the second next person.

Not so much in my case I'm afraid.

My "prolific" rating on the UU ladder probably has more to do with me rarely finishing, and in some cases starting, battles, nowadays. I'm also pretty sure I've got one of the lowest rankings out of those players to feature, so I'm not exactly what it is I contribute.

Still come the new year this shouldn't be too much of a problem anymore, so this will probably the first and last time I feature on this list.

12?! Surely I'm not on that much. Wait, November? That was the month I took it easy on shoddy for finals, playing sparingly and not playing at all the last week. FUCK.
 
That just doesn't seem right... I didn't spend that much time battling!

Oh wait, whenever I battle I do at least 2-3 battles at the same time lol. And hey, this doesn't really say much either. Everyone knows battles with a stall team will take SOOOO much longer than battles with offensive teams. I don't think I can ever remember a battle I've done longer than 10 minutes.
 
When I used to use my rain team competitively on ladder, I remember having around 18 battles every hour. That's just how fast paced that team was. It does go to show you that if you want to get your rating up fast, don't mess around with stall - go all out offensive =P.

In the end, we're all playing pokemon so there's really no reason for anyone here to be telling other players to "get lives." :P

Anyway, great stuff DJD, it's like you're just constantly coming up with new ways to impress everyone with your statistics lol
