Welcome to Break This Team! This project follows a simple layout, with the submission and voting stages taking place on a week by week basis. Most metagame defining teams appear to be flawless at a glance, but they all have specific flaws, and this project centers around pointing out such weaknesses. Each week, I'll post a team that was built by someone invested in the metagame, and the participants will then try to break this team with a core consisting of two Pokemon. The project will have two phases each week: the submission phase and the voting phase. The submission phase will have a duration of ~5 days and participants are allowed to post a core with two Pokemon within that time. Then the voting phase will last 2 days and people can vote for their favorite core. Finally, multiple Hall of Fame entries from any one person will result in them being able to post a team for the week! PM me with the team in question if you're a three-time winner.

RULES:

  • Please try to not post one-liners. This includes extremely short descriptions. Immense amounts of elaboration is not required, but try to at least provide a satisfactory description of the core. Don't post "these Pokemon work well together and I think that it will break this team ", try to elaborate on a good post with an explanation of how the core performs against the team.
  • Participants are allowed to do reservations, but if they don't post the sets with the explanation within 48 hours, other participants are allowed to take it.
  • This is not a counterteaming competition. This is an attempt to get the community to find viable, functional cores that work generally well in the meta which the team of the week is weak to.
  • By extension, try not to post gimmicky sets or Pokemon. For instance, posting Iron Tail Aurorus for Clefairy will NOT be accepted. Please try to post viable Pokemon in respect to the PU viability rankings. Posting a core involving one Pokemon of questionable viability is fine, but don't overdo it.
  • If another contestant has reserved a particular Pokemon, you may only reserve it if it's a different set than the one already posted. This is to discourage the use of similar cores to break a team.
  • Participants are to only post a core consisting of two Pokemon. However, this number can be subject to change if there is enough demand for it.
  • Most importantly, have fun!

VOTING:

  • When the time comes to vote, you will pick one user in which you feel had the best post that week.
  • Please don't vote on your own core. If you feel as if your core was the best one that week, abstain from voting.
  • Don't encourage or bother people into voting for your own core. This is not fair at all to the other participants, and measures will be taken if needed.

Alola Exeggutor + Swanna

An offensive core that pressures a lot that team, because it doesn't has solid switch ins for both.
Exegg free switch in Lilligant and Qwilfish and hit hard all the team, also isn't 1HKOed by anything.

Probopass can trap Aggron with Magnet Pull and proceed to take it out with Earth Power, which also 2HKOes Pyroar and Qwilfish. It completely walls Mesprit, Pyroar, and Aggron, the biggest threats to unboosted Oricorio. In return, Oricorio can deal with Hitmonchan, capable of taking one Stone Edge in the event of a misprediction. Also, if Lilligant tries to set up on Probobass, Oricorio can come in with its ability to copy the stat boost which will facilitate a sweep.

Alola Exeggutor + Swanna

An offensive core that pressures a lot that team, because it doesn't has solid switch ins for both.
Exegg free switch in Lilligant and Qwilfish and hit hard all the team, also isn't 1HKOed by anything.
Swanna pressures all the team too, and can also defog the hazards.

Right off the bat, I noticed that the team has a major weakness to offensive Ghost types such as Haunter and Sensu. After one CM boost, Oricorio can effectively sweep the entire team.

At long last, we have a PUPL finals team! This team features many unique assets, with Icium Z Rotom-Frost and Scarf Kabutops keeping entry hazards off the field for teammates like Scyther and bulkier-than-usual Gurdurr to excel. This also allows for VoltTurn to be much more spammable without worrying about switching into Stealth Rock or multiple layers of Spikes. Other things to note are 80 Speed Mesprit allowing for a quicker Healing Wish against 215's and Knock Off on Scarf Kabutops being able to soften switchins for the likes of Scyther and Frostom.

Happy Breaking! Will be updating the OP shortly.

LST provided a super solid team in his final week of PUPL, which was great after making the literal definition of an auto-lose to everything team earlier this PUPL. This team is extremely hard to break because a lot of the ways you can break it involve a load of "ifs" and "buts", because the synergy is almost flawless against both Balance and Offensive archetypes. However, this team doesn't handle stall; at all. In fact, due to the lack of any Taunt or Toxic Pokemon, this team folds just to the two mentioned above, never mind a full stall team. With Pyukumuku walling 5/6 of the team and Audino switching in every time Rotom-Frost does, there's zero chance of this core failing against this team.

Offensive Sensu is preferred over the fatter variant due to more immediate power and wielding additional STAB in Revelation Dance to hit the team's flying resists in Kabutops and Rotom-Frost. Offensive Sensu also can outspeed Rotom-Frost and can threaten out Gurdurr, Mesprit, and completely abuses Type: Null for free set up. Leftovers is taken over Flyinium Z due to mostly not needing the Z-Hurricane nuke in this match up. However, Sensu may have issues getting into battle cleanly and disikes taking stealth rock damage, so pairing it with Rotom-Frost can alleviate these issues. Rotom-Frost can easily pressure Mesprit with Z-Blizzard for big damage to remove stealth rock with Defog, and can exploit Type: Null switch ins if Rotom-Frost catches it with a Volt Switch to put Sensu in a prime position to set up for free. Obviously the core alone will lose to Kabutops if it comes in safely and clicks Stone Edge, but the remainder of the team can fit a rock resist, and the core pressures Kabutops to not switch in willy-nilly.

CM Musharna beats every member of this team except Scyther 1v1 because there are no Toxic users. Aggron easily switches into Scyther and sets Rocks, while also checking Mesprit and Type: Null. It loses to Gurdurr but that is easily blocked by Musharna. Rotom-F does threaten both of these pokemon but with additional support for that this core should be able to dismantle the team every time. Items are chosen to have the best matchup against the team but I also consider them to be viable/decent items in general.

Scarf Primeape outspeeds and is able to OHKO or severely weaken Rotom, Kabutops, Scyther and Type: Null with Close Combat and Stone Edge. U-turn allows to pick up momentum, deals super-effective damages to Mesprit and gives a free switch in to Primeape's teammates. Oricorio-Pom-Pom checks perfectly Gurdurr, Scyther ( and can set up on them safely with CM and Roost ) and cripples Type: Null and Mesprit with Taunt. Concerning the items, the Rocky Helmet is really helpful against Gurdurr, Type: Null and Scyther but leftovers or Z-move also are good options.
