I've been meaning to make this RMT for ages but never felt that it was appropriate or necessary, but with ORAS PU quickly fading into obscurity I figured that I may aswell make it as my final throwback to the team. The team was conceptualised around a memey core of two auto-weather setters Hippopotas and Snover, a fun idea inspired by Swagalge's multi-weather teams in NU from ages ago. Although the first few drafts were very rough the concept kept me interested and wanting to refine it, until I eventually reached a build that proved successful and primed just before Muk and Cacturne were introduced into the tier. The team is hands down my favourite team and is by far the team that i'm most proud of, and possibly the best team i've made in my history of mediocre building.

Although starting with Hippopotas and Snover sounds like a complete disaster they ended up making a surprisingly good defensive backbone. The two mons together have good defensive typing synergy, and also both provide enough utility to not be entirely dead weights going forward with the team. Hippopotas especially helps with this since it functions as the team's Stealth Rocker.

The next step was selecting weather abusers, and Stoutland was a no-brainer as it's the main reason to use sand as a play-style. Stoutland gave me a wallbreaker and a late game win condition in 1, also giving the team a very strong match-up against offense teams. With that in mind I wanted a partner that appreciated hail but was still a strong wall-breaker which made Glaceon perfect. The two 'mons intended on overwhelming defensive steel types with strong STABs to then open the door for a Stoutland clean up late game.

With the overall weather concept solidified I wanted to prioritise hazard removal. Another issue that was clear with the current team was a weakness to Focus Blast Floatze, filtering the options down to Prinplup or Lumineon. After testing both 'mons I ultimately decided on Lumineon.

The team so far was concerningly weak to ice types, most notably Articuno which took advantage of Hippopotas and Snover, and had no easy answer to beating Calm Mind Clefairy aside from offensive pressure. Grumpig is able to remedy these issues with Sub Calm Mind, whilst giving the team another win condition and also followed the theme of overwhelming steel types for Stoutland.

Hippopotas is the star of the defensive core and is in my opinion an unsung hero of ORAS PU. Beyond auto-setting sand for Stoutland it also has great split bulk due to eviolite, allowing it to take on threats such as Muk, Monferno, Golem, Kadabra, Zebstrika and so on. Earthquake is it's strongest STAB and has high enough base power to compensate for Hippo's low base attack. Out of the utility options Stealth Rock is the most necessary, leaving the choice between Toxic and Whirlwind. Toxic is overall more useful, but Whirlwind was previous used to help against Clefairy and Duosion setting up, and Articuno who otherwise gets a free Substitute. The EV spread was ripped from Tect in the EV spread compendium, allowing it to avoid the 2HKO from Choice Banded Dodrio's Frustration, with the spDef investment preventing HP Ice/Grass into Overheat from Life Orb Zebstrika KOing from full.

With max spDef investment it's able to function as a blanket special check, most importantly helping against water types such as Floatzel and ice types such as Rotom-Frost and Regice. Blizzard is used over ice shard to threaten Leafeon, which otherwise has a field day against the team whereas ice shard was experimented with for Cacturne but isn't anywhere near as problematic. Stoutland easily carries the team on it's back, unsurprisingly since it has established itself as one of the tier's best wallbreakers. Although typically renowned for the Scrappy set, Sand Rush provides the team with it's only form of speed control which is important to revenge kill problematic 'mons such as Banded Dodrio and Choice Scarf Users such as Rotom-Frost, Chatot and Mr.Mime. It also gives the team it's most reliable win condition, especially since it's able to wear down it's own checks, with Superpower hitting rock and steel types and Crunch hitting ghost types. Although Facade seems like a filler slot it allows you to still be useful while burned, whilst also taking advantage of any Toxic Spikes set against you. Choice band was chosen over Silk Scarf since it drastically changes Stoutland's calcs against it's defensive checks, helping it to perform as a wallbreaker in the early to mid game.

Glaceon rounds up the hail core and works as the team's dedicated wallbreaker. It has good bulk even when uninvested which allows it to trade hits against threats such as Stoutland and Leafeon which are hard to deal with otherwise. Modest Specs Glaceon is ridiculously strong, with Blizzard easily 3HKOing ice resists such as Metang, Politoed and even being able to 2HKO Audino. Due to this raw power the coverage moves are more so fillers. Ice beam is used to still have reliable STAB outside of hail. Shadow Ball is the strongest coverage move, being super effective against Bronzor and Metang to make calcs more favourable and hitting other ice resists neutrally. Hidden Power Fighting allows you to hit Probopass super effectively, with fighting being used over ground because of balloon. It also lets you hit Rotom-Frost and Regice super effectively. Ice Body ties in with the hail theme and is chosen over Snow Cloak to help maintaining health to keep switching in on Stealth Rocks.

It should be no surprise that Lumineon is on the team since it's the tiers most splashable defogger. Lumineon, in my eyes has 2 main strengths beyond the defensive utility it provides, both of which work perfectly for the team. The first is it's positive match-up against the common Stealth Rock users, Golem, Mawile, and Metang, making it extremely reliable at winning the hazard war. Therefore, Lumineon is a valuable asset since the team is entirely grounded, has 2 Ice-types weak to Stealth Rock and no Toxic Spike absorber. The second advantage is the access to U-Turn, allowing you to bring in Stoutland and Glaceon safely. On top of that, Lumineon has a great speed tier, allowing it to outspeed a large threat in Mild Cacturne and chunk it down. This, with the passive recovery from Leftovers to compensate for the constant weather chip is what made it perform much better than Prinplup.

- The team has no normal resist and is overall very slow, with the entire team being slower than Stoutland bar Grumpig. When facing Stoutland you always have to expect the lead, meaning that you're forced to lead Lumineon. This way you get the crucial chip to threaten the revenge kill with Grumpig's Focus Blast for the rest of the game. Other than that you're forced to try and check it with your own Stoutland.
- The team's best Leafeon switch-in is spDef Snover which is weakened by Knock Off. Landing a Toxic with Lumineon, Hippopotas or Snover on the switch in allows you to slowly wear it down so that Stoutland can pick it off later on under sand. Despite this, the team's forced to play aggressively with Defog and Glaceon to control it early and mid game, otherwise you're basically forced to sack 'mons each time it comes in.
- Hippopotas, Snover and Lumineon all give Articuno a free substitute, forcing you to have to play aggressively with Toxic to try and land it on the switch in. The team has a temporary solution in Grumpig, but the set has no invested bulk and is therefore easy to wear down.
- Cacturne is largely problematic due to you need to scout for information. Both physical and special give the team trouble since they both have strong fighting coverage to hit Snover. Beyond that, physical sets threaten Grumpig more and forces you to win Substitute vs Sucker Punch wars, whereas Grumpig is able to offensively check the special set with Focus Blast. You're also forced to scout the nature too since Hasty Cacturne outspeeds Lumineon, changing how you use Lumineon's U-Turn against it.
/
- Hippopotas and Snover are both exploited by Clefairy and Duosion for free boosts since Magic Guard prevents the residual damage they rely on. Because of this you're forced to play Stoutland and Glaceon very carefully so that you're always able to apply immediate offensive pressure against them. Fortunately Grumpig is able to help with Clefairy by beating it in a Calm Mind war, but Duosion walls Grumpig and has Acid Armor to help against Stoutland which makes Glaceon much more valuable.
- The team has switch-ins for Rotom-Frost in Snover and Grumpig but both are easy to wear down and neither appreciate being Tricked a Choice Scarf. Beyond that it outspeeds the entire team bar Stoutland in sand, making Stealth Rock control very crucial. The Substitute set is also scary since it gets a free Substitute against Hippopotas, Snover and Lumineon, but since it wears itself down a lot you're able to use Grumpig to check it early on in hopes to pick it off with Stoutland later.

Hailstorm was largely considered a meme team by many but carried me through my ORAS journey, especially through the PU Open, so I wanted to say a last goodbye to it before ORAS died as a tier. RIP ORAS PU, may you forever be ruined by Speed Pass Combusken and Muk Trap.
