Welcome everyone to the PU Invitational! 24 players deemed the best of the best will duke it out in a Bo3 SVPU swiss bracket in order to see who is really the best SVPU player. The winner of the PU Invitational will earn the lucrative prize of a custom avatar, and of course, bragging rights.

While I don't expect many issues to arise during an invitational, please keep in mind the following rules to make sure this tournament is smooth sailing for all who are involved:
Swiss Rules:
  • For each round, you will be matched up with someone that has the same record as you in the tournament. For example, if you are 2-1, you will be matched up against someone with the same rating as you.
  • 3+ wins will be grounds for playoff qualification, pending bracket resistance.
  • As soon as you hit 3 losses (X-3), you are unable to achieve playoffs.
General Tournament Rules:
  • Games will be played in the standard SV PU tier.
  • Each round will be Best of 3, and you are allowed to switch teams between games.
  • All changes that happen in the tier during the middle of the week will not apply until the next round.
  • You are expected to know and follow all general tournament rules.
  • VMs are only thing that matters for activity. Use this guide to ensure you don't lose via activity or coinflip.

DugZa  vs  MichaelderBeste2 - michael kinda got a rob throwing buff last week so I'm gonna go with doug for now but this is probably my favorite matchup this week since idt it's happened before
etern  vs  sugar ovens - the time zone fuckery will benefit the duck
Esteb4n  vs  zS - just watched their sets and I have no idea how to evaluate big regice win vs big sun win so I flipped a coin
Hiko  vs  seraphz - already happened
eifo  vs  Vulpix03 - I liked how both looked last week but vulpix felt a little more current meta iirc

Drud  vs  LpZ - the other highlight, but between 2 people I don't expect to go 0-2 I don't expect it from Drud more
gilbert arenas  vs  xcx - I think after an adjustment week the gilbert cheese will be more on top of things
Xiri  vs  driplegend - the time zone fuckery will not benefit Xiri
kyuss  vs  Metallica126 - would be a big week for either to come back with a win but confidence matters
asa  vs  robjr - better last week
LOOR  vs  Bouff - love 2our still has a grip on my prediction brain

OranBerryBlissey10  vs  MZ - having played obb between this and seasonal in the past few weeks, despite goobing me r1 i think mz's ceiling as a builder and a player is way higher. obb is generally known for his aloslash balances from what i've seen and when he strays from that his structures feel a little too awkward for my liking, the boots shaymin team comes to mind though i don't really like using that as an example because uhhhh he beat me with it cause my team was omega cheeks...but while mz has brain farts in game sometimes which may lead to him tilting himself, i think he'll cook up something better here.

etern  vs  sugar ovens - i appreciate sugar oven's willingness to try the wacky shit, trevenant and sun definitely earned their stripes last week, etern beat sun last week and i think he's prob better at cg. please dont sabotage yourself with terrain again though

Esteb4nvs  zS - esteban's another sun winner from last week, maybe it's a real playstyle at this point...zs is probably looking to redeem himself after pucl, that regice game was hot so even though esteban has showed up more in pu lately if momo gives a fuck and doesn't click too hard he'll win.

eifo  vs  Vulpix03 - eifo brought The Good Guys the first two games and then won with evil ass bellossom. if i did predictions last round i would've thought younes would win handily but he did bring home the upset. between watching love tour and his games last round i've felt like pix's teams are way more interesting though and i think he's hungrier given he's been out of the pu field for a while now

Drud  vs  LpZ - i don't know where lpz's sourcing teams from this week and last week didn't look so hot for him. no easy prediction here because it's similar skill levels though and drud made the fatal mistake of bringing sceptile in a glowbro meta i swear that thing has a 0% winrate from the times it was used in scl

gilbert arenas  vs  xcx - prob my hl for the loser's bracket because i like what both of these two build a lot. younes is a master wielder of eject pack and i think their aggressive playstyle will give them a slight edge here, while they lost last week they did have a good showing farming with dd scrafty in the game they won. marcop had a cool offense g1 and brought haunter g2 which is always a plus, unfortunately he ran into ambipom g1 which is never ever fun for lazzle-less offense to deal with.

Xiri  vs  driplegend - both of these guys can bring wacky shit but very different kinds of wacky. xiri's stuff is a little more defensively sound with a flavor mon like perrserker or w/e but he wields it well usually, drip i think is better at the tier when he doesn't sabotage himself with psychic terrain or whatever the hell, i did like the split lass but he had no hazard control and couldn't break dugza's team easily so it was just really tough that game in particular

kyuss  vs  Metallica126 - both are closely matched but i get the impression metallica wants the game of pokemon to explode, at least he seems to like pu more than ru. i pray he shakes off the tilt, if he does so i can see him upsetting but kyuss is probably one of the worst opponents to play in this pool when you're not confident in yourself even if he's also 0-1

asa  vs  robjr - asa is probably the most prolific builder right now given the massive team dump she posted pre love tour. classic tier leader regaining their passion after stepping down...rob did kinda mess around last week and i'm not sure how he'll be able to respond to whatever tricks asa comes up with.

sorry i know thursday night predicts are not fun but thankfully a lot of these series are extensions so i guess im not that late? might be more substantive predicts from me in later rounds but i hope ppl r enjoying the tour so far

OranBerryBlissey10  vs  MZ I think mz is pretty good at exploiting trends/builder habits and obb's team choices can feel a bit more predictable. I thought the hail load was nice taking that into account, so this isn't that cut and dry of a mu.
etern  vs  sugar ovens etern's baseline style tends to match up better into the recent sugar ovens stuff so I think he's got it here.
Esteb4n  vs  zS the zs teams had hella aura I can't predict against that in good faith rn, pucl be damned. regice kinda clears murkrow sun but this is probably my highlight for 1-0 side rn both series were fun last week!
eifo  vs  Vulpix03 eifo's teams had an older vibe for my taste besides the game 3 team, and I think unless he changes up a bit I favor pix based on recent team choices.

Drud  vs  LpZ both players got goobed on matchup a bit overall but I liked drud's team choice more.
gilbert arenas  vs  xcx this is definitely my overall highlight this week, two players with fun styles that tend to cut a few more corners in the builder because of their playstyles, I give xcx the edge since it was a closer series last week but not counting marcop out whatsoever.
kyuss  vs  Metallica126 kyuss experiments with offense a lot and it's a style metallica hates playing so I favor him.
asa  vs  robjr asa's been grindin this meta like crazy and having constant new ideas is a big buff in this meta, especially since her involvement with love tour I just think she's tuned in more.
LOOR  vs  Bouff bouff is just lookin better as of late and even with last week's L i still favor them here fs.
