Congratulations to allstarapology for winning this week with his/her Lanturn!

Week 4: Drampa
drampa.gif

Drampa @ Choice Specs
Ability: Sap Sipper
EVs: 136 HP / 252 SpA / 120 Spe
Modest Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Hyper Voice
- Fire Blast
- Focus Blast

Darkinium

the mighty nuaguunibi

Mesprit @ Colbur Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Psychic
- U-turn
- Healing Wish

Mesprit baits in foes such as Eelektross, Lanturn, and even opposing Mesprit, turning them into U-turn fodder and opening up opportunities for Drampa to break. It also checks Fighting-types for Drampa, too, and offers Stealth Rock support to ease in KOs. Healing Wish gives Drampa a second chance at destruction, and grabs momentum to boot.

Qwilfish @ Waterium Z
Ability: Swift Swim
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Aqua Tail
- Poison Jab
- Spikes

Decided to go with a slightly different Qwilfish set for this. SD+Spikes Qwilfish is capable to exploiting Clefairy, a common check to Drampa, to a further extent in multiple ways and Qwilfish can soft check fighting types like Hitmonchan. Drampa can also soft check certain electrics like Manectric as well. Spikes does wonders for this duo of breakers, and it's nice Qwilfish can choose what to do when given a turn.

btw Intimidate is illegal with Swords Dance so rip

Scyther @ Eviolite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- U-turn
- Aerial Ace
- Roost
- Swords Dance

or

Rockpaperscizor (Scyther) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- U-turn
- Aerial Ace
- Knock Off
- Brick Break

Alright, so Scyther+Drampa is a core I used a lot after the tier shifts in the spring seasonal and they did work very well together. It's quite easy to understand why they work so well: scyther is a fast physical revengekiller which resists fighting moves, so it is able to counter gurdurr+Thunderpunch chan and check primeape, stone edge chan and poliwrath. Indeed, drampa's biggest fear is fighting types. On the other hand, drampa is a the most powerful special wallbreaker of PU, and resists electric.

Strategy: Once u switch scyther on the fighting mon, u force it out and thus can relatively safely click u-turn and guess what: scyther's switchins are togedemaru, regirock, oricorio pompom, sensu maybe, weezing, and aggron. All of them except aggron are food for drampa, since they cannot hit it very hard most of the time and drampa's moves OHKO them. Ofc they will be dealing some damage to drampa, but they will be forced to hit drampa bc of the huge momentum loss provided by scyther: in a nutshell, if they stay in and hit drampa you kill a scyther check; if they switch, you kill something else for free. Easy.

Out of the three this one fits my own personal taste the best, having the ability to knock out fairy types and remove them from play is a very useful thing to have. Really opens you up to start dropping Spec Draco's once the Clefairy/Fairy Type Mon is taken out. I liked the other two choices as well, but outta the three this one just fit the best for me.

PU Matchmaking Revamp

Hello everyone! Chrisloud1 has kindly let me take over this thread after a couple of months of inactivity. There is huge potential in this thread to encourage participation and involvement for all users whilst also being an effective way to brainstorm good cores that could be used as a resource when teambuilding. In commemoration of the revamp, enjoy the new art!

Art drawn by the talented Modeling Clay and coloured by his talented partner.

I have updated the OP and have reset the leaderboard so that we can start off fresh. Whoever tops the leaderboard will be crowned the PU's First Next Top Cupid. There will be a winner and a runner up every week. The winner will receive two points, the runner up will receive one point and both submissions will be archived. The leaderboard will be reset every ten weeks.

The first Pokemon we are going to matchmake is our premier normal wallbreaker: Choice Band Stoutland!

Stoutland @ Choice Band
Ability: Scrappy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Return
- Superpower
- Pursuit
- Facade

Good luck!

Mesprit @ Colbur Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Psychic
- Hidden Power Ground / Ice Beam
- Healing Wish

Offensive Stealth Rock Mesprit helps out Stoutland immensely by pressuring Fighting-types, nailing Pokemon such as Aggron or Alolan Eggy, laying Stealth Rock for Stoutland to more aptly wallbreak, and providing Healing Wish support.

Do I expect Dodrio to win over Mesprit? Frik no. But Normal spam is good so frik all of you.

Fluff Ball Birdy (Dodrio) @ Normalium Z
Ability: Early Bird
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Jump Kick
- Quick Attack
- Swords Dance

Yep, Normal spam. Stoutland breaks through stuff for Dodrio, weakening them so Dodrio can clean up the match. Stoutland can notably lure in stuff like Regirock throughout the match and ideally put it in KO range for Dodrio. I also put Normalium Z on this mon so it can run Quick Attack to bop Primeape while still being able to handle Oricorio-Pom-Pom.

If you didn't bother reading this couple sentences the gist of it is wallbreaker + sweeper. Also Normal spam because Normal spam is good.

Lilligant @ Grassium Z
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Giga Drain
- Hidden Power Fire
- Sleep Powder
- Quiver Dance

There are just few things that Stoutland cannot handle alone in the PU meta. These mons include: Gourgeist, Carbink, Regirock, Bronzor, and at times, Mudsdale. The Lilligant set above easily handles all these mons and forms an offensive synergy core with Stoutland!

Exeggutor-Alola @ Choice Specs
Ability: Frisk
EVs: 212 HP / 252 SpA / 44 Spe
Modest Nature
- Leaf Storm
- Draco Meteor
- Flamethrower
- Giga Drain

Come on guys lets be honest. Pairing two great breakers together is always a fantastic idea. Eggy-A pressures Pokemon that are able to potentially wall Stoutland such as Regirock, Weezing, and Quagsire. Furthermore, Eggy-A is just an all around Fantastic Pokemon right now in meta. Whatever Eggy-A can't kill Stoutland can and Vice Versa.

Eelektross @ Assault Vest
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
- Volt Switch
- Giga Drain
- Flamethrower
- Knock Off

Eelektross has always been a great partner for breakers, but it fits Stoutland in particular like a glove. Not only does it supply a slow Volt Switch for Stoutland to get in safely so it can wreak havoc on opposing teams, but it also beats/cripples literally everything that checks or counters Stoutland. This includes but is not limited to Bronzor, Regirock, Mudsdale, and even lesser used picks like Mawile and Carbink!

Jellicent @ Choice Specs
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Water Spout
- Hydro Pump
- Shadow Ball
- Ice Beam

Jellicent works really well with Stoutland here as they are both incredibly powerful choiced wallbreakers that cover each others weaknesses. Firstly, Jelli helps Stoutland against fast fighting types that threaten it such as Primeape. Stoutland also does this for Jellicent. They're also extremely powerful wallbreakers that could easily rip through a team if unprepared

Oricorio-Pom_SM.gif

Oricorio-Pom-Pom @ Flyinium Z
Ability: Dancer
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Calm Mind
- Roost
- Hurricane
- Revelation Dance

Stoutland weakens Regirock and Mudsdale, two Pom-Pom checks, and takes care of special tank in general for Pom-Pom while Pom-Pom takes care of Fighting-types and physical walls like Weezing for Stout.

Hi everyone! Thank you for your submissions. The quality of posts from each user is quite impressive.

I am away for the next two days in the outback with not too much internet. I will edit this post later to feature each users submission. In the meantime, voting is open!

EDIT:

Seven submissions!! We are off to a really strong start.

Our submissions for this week to pair with the powerhouse mon - Banded Stoutland - are:

: Offensive Mesprit with Stealth Rocks and Healing wish by Aaronboyer

: SD Dodrio because having one overpowered normal mon to break through checks and the other one cleaning is brutal. By UberSkitty

: Lilligant - for the synergy and ability to sweep what walls Stoutland. By Oathkeepre

: Alolan Eggy - Similar synergy as Lilligant being able to break what walls Stoutland. This mon is another powerhouse of a mon and pairing two overpowered mons in one team equals a bloody scary team. Thank you Broken Phobias.

: Eelektross - Slow volt-turn and a balance breaker that cripples most of Stoutlands checks including and not limited to Bronzor, Regirock and Mudsdale. Kudos j0gurt.

: Jellicent: Put two overwhelming breakers in one team and your bound to overwhelm most of the tier. By PhantomHurious

: Pom pom: Don't mistake this mon for its cuteness. This mon comes in on all the mons that Stoutland has weakened and proceeds to sweep. By StickingGum!

Good luck and vote for your top two submissions for the week based on how well the moms submitted pair with Choice Banded Stoutland.
